It was a good pub for matches. no longer open. I can't write any more. We called in a couple of months ago. They have tried hard to update but not much footfall, due to demographic changes in area most likely.

We have been to The Alfred many, many times for Sunday lunch and never been disappointed. Perfectly cooked beef (although they always have three meats available and you can have a taster of all if you so choose), delicious gravy and plenty of vegetables which we love! The roast parsnips and potatoes really are yummy! The homemade puddings are also delicious - if you've room. The staff are friendly and it's really easy to book (advisable). I always message the pub via Facebook and have always had an answer pretty much straight away.

After a recommendation we went with friends for Sunday lunch at the Alfred we were not disappointed. The drinks were good, the staff are lovely and the Sunday lunch was excellent, well cooked and delicious. We will definitely be back not just for lunch but to have a drink in this delightful pub.

By chance, and third time lucky, we had lunch at The Alfred today as our two previous choices were closed. What a great find. Initially we were disappointed to find the pub was fully booked for lunch but the staff were able to find room for the six of us, what a relief. We each had the Sunday roast and it was lovely. Tasty hot food that was very much needed after a wedding party the previous evening. The pub is typical of a traditional style, no loud music or sports and we were given a warm greeting and great service. Highly recommended but best not leave it to chance and book in advance.

What a fantastic pub ! The most loveliest of welcomes, spotless, warm and inviting and best of all the beer is top notch. We have not been in this pub in a few years has it lost its mojo, but it has got that back and more.So looking forward to returning. Can definitely recommend the Bridge and the Stairway

Just had my 4rd Sunday lunch at the Alfred. It was lovely home made yorkie and amazing veg. Don't really want to give it a good review as lots more people are eating here now but it really deserves it

Not only was it the best pub Sunday lunch we’ve ever had the value and service from Sue and Steve was excellent. Not just the Sunday lunched either - the daily menu is great too. Almost certainly the best little boozer in Burton. Keep up the good work. Pat and Mary.

This is an excellent pub to visit in Burton. It is warm, friendly, cosy and welcoming. It is 20-25 minutes walk from the Pirelli Stadium. It has car park and serves Burton Bridge beers. It also has Real Ales on offer which can be found on the black board. As stated by another reviewer that this is good and proper old style pub. The proprietors of the pub were very friendly and helpful. The landlady even volunteered to make us two large ham and cheese cobs as there was only snack available on the night. Highly recommended if you're in the vicinity. Especially staying at the hotel nearby.

The Alfred is a cozy, rustic neighbourhood pub in the residential area of Burton-on-Trent (when you're leaving the station, turn left over the railway bridge, then right into Derby Street), and certainly a great option in this part of the town. The beers served are by Burton Bridge, a local brewery, and there are guest ales, too. The Alfred offers a small pub food menu each for lunchtime and dinner, of which I picked the ploughmen's board (available in small and large) at a very competitive price. It was tasty and freshly made. The staff were very friendly and welcoming, and the atmosphere is just nice. Recommended!

We nipped in with a few friends for dinner on Friday night, lovely classic pub food at a great price. Really impressed with 3 vegan options on the menu. Highly recommended the vegan burger, it was delicious. My friends also enjoyed the beer battered fish and chips using locally brewed Burton bridge ale. Overall great food, will definitely be visiting again soon :).

Visited yesterday evening with a group of friends and had a fantastic tasty meal. The new menu is very good value for money. I had Bridge Beer battered fish and chips which was very tasty. They had options for vegans and a good selection of food in general. The beer and gin was very good with a fabulous selection. Very impressed!

We held a 30th birthday party here andnthe landlady was very helpful and accommodating. All our questions in the run up to the party were answered promptly and we were able to go in and set up in plenty of time. On the evening the staff were busy and kept on top of everything well with a warm friendly welcome to all our guests. Thank you for making our friend's evening a memorable one.

I drink in here before Burton Albion home games (20 minute walk away), which can be several times a season. Very welcoming to away fans. If you respect the pub, they respect you. It's a proper old school boozer. Looks great inside & out. Loads of real ales with plenty of guest beers. Always an excellent selection, although in the home town of English beer you have to be good. Staff are always welcoming and generous in the extreme ("that's the bottom of the barrel - you can have that one for free". Wow!). Never eaten here, but everyone I've spoken to in there says the food is great. Recommended.

Great to find this pub serving traditional Sunday lunches. Pork, Beef or Turkey (or all three if you ask !). Vegetables cooked with a bit of bite and superb roasters and yorkies. Almost too full to try the Burton Bridge Ales... love it !

This has to be one of the best pubs in Burton on Trent! From the moment you walk in you’re made to feel extremely welcome. There's always something happening, whether it be a charity event, darts or poker night. The pub is immaculately clean with an abundance of flowers throughout. The beers not too bad either! Definitely my new local!!

Me, my friend and our two 7 year pld boys Recently popped into this pub on the way home from a local football match.. As a real ale CAMRA member this pub looked just the sort of pub we would enjoy.. We all went in and I ordered two pints of beer for me and my friend. I asked our two boys if they wanted a drink and they said they didn't. We found a table and all sat around chatting. Without me or my friend noticing the two boys had got their own drinks out of their back packs and started drinking them.. Within seconds of this the landlord came flying over shouting at full volume at our two 7 year olds about the ' difficulties of running a pub without people bringing in their own drinks!!!! ' Our two boys were so frightened and upset... I could not believe what was happening. !! We were ordered to 'drink our drinks and clear off ' voices were raised as we tried to explain that surely it would have been better to quietly talk to me or my friend and ask the boys to put away their own drinks, which we would have happily done... This is unacceptable. It ruined our day out and terrorised our two boys. I feel so strongly about the whole experience that I find myself writing this review...

We have eaten in this pub several times now and the food just gets better. My husband says it is the best steak he has ever tasted and excellent value for money. I don't eat meat so last time they did me Mushroom Stroganoff which was the best I have ever tasted, the service is brilliant but if you like food quick though this is not the place for you as they cook to order, nothing is prepared hours before but it is worth the wait. Book a table or you may not get in until much later in the evening. The landlord and landlady are very welcoming and the pub has a nice warm feeling to it, no loud music (odd live act), go on & give it a go but not on a Friday or I might not get a table when I want one !!!

My partner and I have started popping in recently since the new landlord has taken over. Having read the recent comments I wouldnt take any notice of them, I have been local to the area for years and sadly it’s just one of those areas where certain people do not like change. There is always a good atmosphere, beer is good, we tried the steak night last night (Thursday) and we’re really impressed! Locally sourced Aberdeen Angus steak, beautifully cooked, plenty on the plate and very reasonable! £27.95 for 2 steaks (sirloin) and a bottle of vino, extremely good value and no scrimping on quality. Keep up the good work 👍

Service was slow, considering it was only Friday when I visited. I also overheard two other customers enquire why their orders were taking so long. Isn't it strange how three completely separate parties thought the service was a little sluggish? Food was OK.

Whilst in store after ordering 2 iced coffee’s we were handed our drinks without lids. My partner very politely asked if we could have lids for our drinks and the member of staff very rudely replied ‘if we had lids I would’ve put one on’. Being an assistant manager in retail I would be appalled if I heard any of my staff speaking to a customer like this.

Went to this place for my daughters 5th birthday dinner. Staff decorated the area so well and left quiet alot of thing on the table like goddy bags balloons etc. Service was spot on from all the staff including the sweet girl who served us. 100% recommending and coming back. Just call and tell them I'm advance about the occasion and they go above and beyond to make it special xxx

Good service with nice decor and friendly staff. Good choice on menu hot and cold and I had a window shop in the cake area. Had Welsh Rarebit and Eggs Benedict and delicious. One poached egg slightly hard but as a person who doesn't make them as know it is hard to time consistency still good.
