The staff were very friendly and helpful, the food is always good and the atmosphere is great. I edited my review because my last visit was excellent and I couldn't think why I had marked it down on food an atmosphere.

Loved the setting but as it got busier the service deteriorated. The service charge far exceeded the service. We spent £80 and the service charge was £12.20. I’ve been for better bottomless brunches and not had to pay a service charge. I enjoyed the experience but will not return

Excellent customer service, couldn't have been better, the staff all went above and beyond for a birthday party.

Came for birthday drinks and it was amazing, food was good and drinks were good and our server LIV was absolutely amazing she kept checking we were okay and every-time one of us were thinking about getting another drink she was there. Would 100% recommend and liv is the absolute best!

Fantastic 5 star food and service to match

Popped in for a Saturday afternoon for a bite to eat before meeting friends. Yakitori chicken was really tasty and well presented as was the Ribeye steak. Expresso Martini was excellent, service from Dayna was brilliant. Thankyou

Went for pre theatre food and drinks. It was quiet so the atmosphere wasn't fantastic, food was ok and the service was good, it just felt like it was lacking something. Not a bad experience but not fantastic. It was ok.

Myself and my husband visited here at the weekend. We found the service was exceptional and the food was pretty good too. Good choice of vegetarian and vegan meals also! Would highly recommend.

Came in for dinner and drinks in the evening. I would personally recommend firing the bouncer who was nothing but aggressive and rude to both the customers and people passing by. Completely ruined our otherwise decent experience. 2/10.

Dropped in on spec for food, and it was great, but at lunchtime, the music really doesn't need to be that loud.

Came for an evening out for my 32nd birthday and the vibe was ruined slightly by being refused a cocktail because of the stupid challenge 25 you follow. I could understand asking for ID if somebody didn't look 18, but at 32 I think that's taking the micky a little. I was looking forward to a child free night with my friends and to let my hair down a little. But instead I was made to feel like I was a liar even though I was able to provide a photograph of my passport that proved I was born in 1992. Food wasn't bad, but my night was already ruined a little bit by that point.

Visited here tonight for our 34th wedding anniversary. Staff and service is give 6/5. Really friendly and knowledgeable about food and drinks. Food was amazing, only down side was the steak was a bit tough and chewy but not enough to complain. Maybe we should have asked for it cooked more. I'd really recommend the sharing starter to anyone. Also got a nice hip flask with my drink to keep.

Food was amazing and cocktails were lovely, my only complaint is that the portion sizes were huge! You'll definitely not go hungry eating here.

Start the night of with nibbles of seaweed crisps and honey popcorn. Trying seaweed crisps for the first time they were nice and popcorn is normal. Next was starters of pork bon bons and a bed of hot apple sauce and chicken parcels. Both were very nice and just the right size for a starters. Mains of steak with mushroom. Steak was a bit small in size for the price of the meal, but the flavours were really good so that helped and came out cooked just right the first time. Last was puddings of browni and churros with chocolate sauce really nice. Meal came with 2 drinks each aswel, which was a glass of champagne and 2 oyster cocktails. Overall, really great night and food was nice overall, but slightly overpriced service was great. Stayed for more cocktails in the bar area where service was great and music was good.

Bottomless brunch organised by my work, brilliant time especially to speak with them outside of the workplace (I’m still a newbie 🙌🏻🤣) food was great as were the cocktails, just wish there was a little more variety.

Food is unreaaaalllll!! If you're in two minds where to eat and you're in Newcastle definitely give this a go, I've always associated this with great cocktails and never considered trying the food but so pleased I did.

Love coming here for the extravagant cocktails, especially love the Jaffa one where you eat your glass afterwards. I've always managed to get a seat between 9-10pm

The waitress was ace you are very lucky to have such a great staff member, as a lone dinner it is not always a nice experience, but the staff member not only recommended a great dish for me, it was one of the nicest I had on my week away. I will definitely be back if I am back up in Newcastle

Quaint bar with a relaxed vibe. Only had drinks on this visit. It was late however, the bar felt quiet for a weekend. Still enjoyable and the staff were all very friendly.

Bartender must hate working here. Most mind boggling slow service complete with an terrible attitude. We were paying individually so we tried to order individually like any normal bar but the guy wasn’t having it took all our drinks orders at once. Then it took 20 minutes to get a pint despite me ordering first. They made the cocktails of the people i was with before the beers came. Then the guy couldn’t fathom that we wanted to pay for our drinks separately. Confusing and terrible service.

Came in for cocktails on a thursday at about 6PM, so the bar wasn't very busy at all (we were group of about 8 and virtuallythe only people there at first). All we wanted was to order a drink each, and sit down for a drink. The barman tried to force us to pay all as one, despite being told we wanted to pay separately. He then proceeded to make each drink in turn without letting any of us pay individually as we revieved each drink, meaning we were waiting for all drinks to be made before any of us could pay. This meant we were waiting at the bar for 20 minutes before we could pay for our orders. Two of our group just ordered simple drinks (pints of beer) but he decided to pull the pints last of all, rather than first, making some of our group wait 20 minutes for a simple pint. When it came to pay he even started taking orders from other customers that had arrived after us, before allowing our group to pay. His attitude during all of this was extremely rude, acting as if it were our fault for wanting to simply order a drink each, pay individually, and sit down to enjoy a cocktail like you would in any other bar. Worst bartending I've ever seen in my life and totally unapologetic about it, in fact the barman was borderline confrontational.

The young lad working at 6pm on the 11th of August had an absolutely terrible attitude and was extremely rude. Will not be coming back.

Delicious and unusual cocktails. Lots of choice and plenty of gimmicks to make them all experiences. The bar staff were very skillful at their craft and it was fascinating watching them. There's plenty of space in the bar/restaurant. We didn't eat but the food we saw looked good.

Fantastic place, very helpful staff who can help you choose your drinks / cocktails. Nothing is too much trouble for the staff one of my fav places in Newcastle.

I don’t drink alcohol so we got Mocktails. Choice wasn’t great. CBD in most of them??!! Definitely don’t like that. Mocktails we chose very sugary and sweet, and glasses they came in not very creative looking. Just standard glass. Good choice rubbish. Staff very nice though.

Went for bottomless brunch and I was very underwhelmed. It took 20 minutes just to get our first drink and we paid £40 for “unlimited”. The waitress’ response was “well it’s busy, what do you want me to do about it”. The food portions are also tiny.

Amy the server was amazing with us and the food and drinks were amazing!

It has a lovely atmosphere I've come here a few times with my partner and always find new drinks to try. I ordered a plant based burger which was great and a perfect size, the service has always been good and they were understanding with my lactose intolerance offering an online menu that shows which items have milk in them for me to check.

Went for Brunch at £30pp food was reasonably good but with 3 cocktails included the food is essentially a freebie. Stayed for extra drinks it was so good even although there were a few items on the menu we ordered and they didn't have in stock, was overall one of the best drinking experiences I've had in my life, definitely more fun than sitting in a noisy bar and 100% will be back again.

The alchemist is a great place to visit for a few instagrammable drinks. It isn't cheap, but it is an experience watching the barmen making the cocktails. You can choose drinks that 'smoke', drinks that light up, and much more. Definitely worth a wee stop if passing

Mate, when I tell you Jonny had me living my best life. He did! The other staff were just as welcoming and amazing but Jonny did stand out bless him. I’d highly recommend if you want more than just a drink slid across from you. Very intuitive and engaging 🤍

Fabulous service , very helpful

I popped in just to use the toilet and a quick half but ended up staying for about an hour. The cocktails on offer were fantastic and the way they were made by the staff was entertaining which made for one of the best atmospheres I've experienced in a bar. Definitely reccomend 10 out of 10

Wanted a quick drink before food! It was a busy Saturday but we were left to find a table ourselves and the music was extremely loud for 4pm! Drinks were served fairly quickly and were great quality

We had a delicious meal, beginning with olives and pork scratchings, then shared a Boom Boom salad with chicken. It was all perfect! For dessert, we tried few of the fun and imaginative alcoholic offerings. If you come here, you must try one of the magical drinks! Great service - five stars!

Love the cocktails and staff. If you’re unsure about what to drink, ask for recommendations, the bartenders are more than helpful. Food wise I feel its a bit overpriced. Other than that, all good! Fab decoration and environment!

Great selection of cocktails and fast service

Came in for a glass of wine. That was early afternoon, place wasn't busy at all. I sat down at the bar and didn't get served or acknowledge for 15 mins. Bartender passed by twice, manager 3 times. On my way out I spotted same manager having a fag just next to main entrance. Music was nice tho, and lights pleasantly dimmed.

Really poor experience. The mochican clad bar tender was more interested in speaking to his friends and downing a shot than actually listening to what I wanted. He didn't offer an alternative when the cocktail my wife wanted wasn't available. Really poor service.

We went there on a Sunday night and it was quiet only a few tables taken. When we got in the staff member we had was attentive and the food was great and came quick and also made sure we were good for drinks. I think there must of been a change over of staff as after our mains were brought out the service changed and we were not really checked on and had to ask a couple of times for drinks. When we ordered one it took some time to come (I accept cocktails take a while but was about half an hour and Still only a few tables taken) and as we were walking up to pay the bill our drinks come. I've only been to the alchemist in Cardiff before on a busy Saturday and can only compare to that but was a little disappointed as we were looking forward to this - but it was not the same experience unfortunately.

Brilliant cocktails and atmosphere

I have been here a few times, breakfast is always good, staff are always lovely and I do enjoy the decor, however, last time me and my partner went, being both vegetarian, our server asked and pointed at the items on the menu we were able to eat, fully aware of our requirements as we ordered. Instead of a halloumi wrap I received a chicken wrap and with textures being similar, started to eat it to which I had to run to the toilet and immediately be sick. This was the beginning of the afternoon so as you can imagine, ruined the entire day. As you can see into the kitchen itself, we saw the chef and partie looking very stressed and shouting at each other - this does not provide a good atmosphere to customers and may explain why I received food I could not eat/didn't order. We were told we only need to pay for drinks, but I feel we shouldn't' have had to pay for anything for this horrific experience. I don't feel like they took it seriously as much as an allergy should have been to them, and I could have argued the fact, but, understandably all I wanted to do was go home after the ordeal as I felt completely ill both physically and mentally. I have never had this luckily anywhere I've been to eat since being a vegetarian from the age of 9, which leaves me unfortunately incredibly hesitant to return, and if I do it will not be by choice. If I were asked about the Alchemist from another veggie/vegan - I would say to avoid at all costs. EDIT ** RE: the alchemist told me to email them, as comment below, I did, and received nothing back. Confirms my non return trade and spreading the news to urge others to do the same! **

A great bar with epic cocktails. Apart from the stunning visuals, the cocktails themselves are amazing. The bartenders are very professional and the decor is just perfect!

Massive disappointment. Popped in as it seemed quiet, and I've always wanted to try the cocktails and food at the Alchemist. Met at the entrance, asked if there were tables available, told just head through to the back, and pick our own table. The first issue is that all the smaller tables were taken by the windows, and there were only two of us. We tried to sit at one of the booths, but they are no good if you are 6'3 tall. Sat at another table and asked to move, so we were moved to another table, and then told to move again. We asked where can we sit, then met with all the tables are booked so it's the booth or nothing (almost empty restaurants). The waitress then offered us two tiny chairs with no table, again that is not a great for two people that are out for a few drinks and a bit food, the waitress had an attitude that we were not welcome, and we got the feeling it was the fact that we did not fit there usual trendy crowd. Dred to think how they would handle someone in a wheelchair or someone with a disability. The cocktails and food did look good but still ended up leaving as we fell excluded.

Would he been a 4 or 5 as the bar staff were amazing for creating our cocktails. Buy what let the place down is after spending £40 on cocktails is that we were ejected from a table someone "might" have wanted to eat. Sadly with these attitude to customers well likely take our future business elsewhere.
