St. Sushi in Newcastle upon Tyne

We ordered Ramen Tonkatsu, Ramen King Prawn Tempura, Aubergine with garlic, and Wakame Salad. It was our second visit at St Sushi and we were amazed because of the quality of the food. The restaurant serves very high quality food relative to the prices of the meals. The meals are relatively affordable and filling. Ramen Tokantsu is one of those quite filling meals and definitely can be recommended for people who are new to Japanese cuisine. The atmosphere and comfort in the restaurant make it a perfect place for couples and not only. Very high selection of meals. It's our favourite Japanese restaurant in Newcastle upon Tyne and will definitely return to try out new meals.

Friendly staff, excellent food and all at a reasonable price. Menu is varied, and the recommendations from the staff were exceptional.

Phoned to say we were running late and that we would be there at 7.30pm because we didn’t realise the football was on and town was hectic to get parked. Was assured that was OK and they would keep our table. We arrived at the new time and the waitress gave our table to a couple infront of us. When she asked if I had a reservation I told her I had phoned etc… she laughed and said “oops I just gave your table away, please wait near the door and a table will be ready soon” 10 minutes later and of us blocking the doorway we were seated.The waitress took ages to come and take our order. She told us we had 90 minutes but 1 hour of that was actually waiting for waitresses to attend to us.We ordered and the food came, the sushi was all on one plate and 3 out of the five sushi selection didn’t look anything like the pictures. The Sashimi dish came WARM and not on ice like other places. We weren’t asked if we wanted more drinks or how the meal was.When ordering I had queried the noodle dish to make sure it was noodles, I was told yes. When it came it was a plate of stir fry bean sprouts and veg in a rancid garlic sauce that tasted nothing like garlic! The seafood in the dish was OK until I got to the squid! Let’s just say it hadn’t been washed properly! Totally put off by our meal! The food and service was terrible! We asked for napkins, didn’t arrive. We asked for plates, didn’t arrive. They also added a dish £4.50 sushi to our meal which I didn’t order! It looked very similar to something we did order so we didn’t think at the time, it was horrible anyway. When I asked them to remove that from our bill a waitress stormed over and told me I had asked for it! I told her I didn’t. She told me I had to pay. We spent over £60 on rubbish. We both feel poorly and unclean! How can it take someone 25 minutes to come over with a card machine after giving us the bill! I hope they read this and get back to me. We had a terrible time at the laughable food!

I’ve been here previously and the food was really nice and the staff was kind. So I decided to bring my friends here (who came to visit from London) to show them this cute sushi place in Newcastle. Well, I don’t know where to start, I am very, very disappointed!! First they said we can have the table for 1.5 hours cos’ there is another booking straight after us. We were like that’s fine, ordered our meal and we got to an hour and we were STILL waiting for our food. We asked the waiter, why do we have to wait so long for our sushi and how long we have to wait and she just said that every table has been waiting the same time… I didn’t say but I should have, that a guest does not care about the rest of the tables… because yes, honestly who cares that the table next to me is waiting an hour when selfishly I just want to get my food, eat, have a nice time. So we got to 1.5 hours - when we supposed to leave because of the other booking, but they let us stay cos we STILL haven’t received our meals. Anyway, to cut long story short, we got our food after 1 hour and 40 mins of wait, finished it in like 10 mins… then my friend asked in the end if we can get some sort of discount because of the inconvenience they caused us and the waiter just said that “no, because every table had to wait the same” - not even saying sorry or apologising - she was saying something to her other colleague in her language (Japanese I assume) instead.Anyway… Staff were not nice and not helpful! Food was okay! Waiting time was ridiculous!! I regret taking my friends there! Not going back there for sure!

I've visited St Sushi a few times as well as ordering from them on Uber Eats. The service has always been great, the food is always beautifully presented and has great flavour. I love the menu size and the amount of options for sushi that you have. Can honestly say it is the best sushi I have tried so far! The Soft Shell Crab Maki is amazing! Definitely reccomend coming here if you're looking for a good sushi spot in Newcastle.

I visited St Sushi today (24/06) around 7:30pm. I hadn’t made a booking but although the restaurant was lively and busy, this was not an issue for us (2 people). We were seated by a lovely lady and served primarily by a male member of staff (with glasses). Both of which were very knowledgeable of the menu and accommodating to us being vegan. They even provided vegan soy sauce for us. My boyfriend ordered the Katsu tofu bento box and I had a variety of miso, edamame, and maki (I think!). I was so very full and the waiter kindly boxed up my food for me. I ate it not long after I arrived home. We both thoroughly enjoyed the service and the food itself. The menu is accessible online and very affordable. The range of drinks available was great too - with an option for unlimited green tea! We will absolutely be back and recommending this place to people.

Visited St Sushi many times now and couldn't fault the food or service. By far the best Japanese Restaurant in Newcastle! Food is very fresh, service fast and attentive. Would defiantly recommend!

Greeted at the door and asked to use sanitiser and check in with NHS app.We were shown to our table and given the menus.We were advised that no wok dishes were available which was a shame The menu had a massive choice although cut down dramatically by no wok dishes or soup dishes.We were advised that we had a 1.5 hr limit on the table which normally would be fine but service during the night was very slow (although perfectly polite)We ordered seaweed Edame beans (spicy not available) Salmon skewers Chicken wingsKatsu chickenTemurpo platterAnd a Sushi setAll of the food was presented well although I personally found it a little blandService was very polite but very slow Price was very good value

I decided to go into St Sushi to order a takeout. I was inspired to go as I have an Amex and was informed of an offer if I spent £15 there. It turns out they don’t take Amex at all, so the website is falsely advertising the restaurant which I’ve got in touch with them about. This was the first frustration but seemingly the restaurant had no idea so I only write this to inform other potentially disappointed Amex users! After getting the spend over £15 for an offer I couldn’t even redeem, I quickly paid with another card. It was disappointing to only be told after payment that I would have to come back in 35 minutes. If I had known this I wouldn’t have placed the order. I did mention this to the staff member so she apologised and said she would ask them to go as quick as they could. I’m a real sushi lover but I am also realistic. Sushi is cold, what I ordered wasn’t revolutionary in terms of skill and all the tables in the restaurant had their food. I really couldn’t see why the wait was so long. I returned after 35 minutes, it was 9pm by this point, only to be told it would be another 5-10 minutes. Not only did I feel awkward waiting in the restaurant but other tables which had me loitering nearby can’t have been impressed! At 9:15 I was finally given my food with not much apology and a late dinner to say the least. I’m really pleased to say the quality of the sushi is really fantastic. I thoroughly enjoyed my meal! I would definitely recommend the delicious food. But for £16.80 and such a long wait, it tasted slightly bitter to say the least :(

Uber eats delivery. Nicely presented. Teriyaki salmon gorgeous. Some interesting sushi combinations but all really nice. Husband enjoyed sashimi. Bit pricey but it is proper handmade sushi that isn’t just a ball of rice.

Constantly cancelling the order, even when they are open and within range of delivery. No reason provided.

Ordered on Uber Eats, waited an hour and a half, not delivered. Checked emails and the order was cancelled. Will not use again!!!

We ordered 2 MAINS & SUSHI FOR SIDES.... absolutely blown away with the presentation and portion sizes we received!! the food was so tasty and the presentation was very professional... almost felt like I experienced restaurant high standard service. The salmon and vegetables were cooked to perfection. I would 100% be going back and recommended to all my friends!I haven't experienced sushi that tasty since Australia! :) Thank you so much ST.SUSHI. x

We ordered a feast from St Sushi last night and it was all delicious, we had various sushi and the teriyaki salmon and chicken katsu bento boxes. Would highly recommend, very good portion sizes, all really fresh. Looking forward to having again!

Wonderful selection of delicious sushi and sashimi all beautifully prepared and presented. Lovely staff and nice atmosphere. They’ve taken all covid precautions too so everyone feels safe.

I got a delivery from this restaurant. No chopsticks, no ginger, not enough soya! How do they expect the client to eat sushi? The young lady on the phone was not helpful. The sushi was average. Too expensive for the price. Don’t recommend.

Staff have repeatedly failed to take correct orders over the phone. There is no place to park, so if you travel by car to collect an order you have the choice between violating traffic regulations or leaving empty-handed.

Mi esposa y yo disfrutamos de nuestra comida aquí, pero pedimos demasiado. La comida era deliciosa y el tamaño de las porciones era generoso, así que ten cuidado con la cantidad que pides. La variedad de bebidas japonesas disponibles era buena y el sake y el vino de ciruela fueron una delicia. Habíamos reservado nuestra mesa con antelación, así que entramos directamente a tiempo y nuestra mesa estaba lista. I ordered the Unagi bento box which was quite delicious however it was a little cold when it arrived. It’s also a tad expensive for the portion size but the quality is high, as you’d expect for a traditional Japanese restaurant.

El único inconveniente fue que el arroz y la salsa estaban tibios cuando llegó.Esperamos poder volver a su restaurante y disfrutar de la comida allí.

Cover of 5 - mains did not arrive at same time, came out 40 mins apart after an hour wait. Unagi rice dish not have enough rice in. Fried rice dish had small portion of fish. Noodles in soup noodles were over and mushy. Pork in soup noodles was bland, no colour or flavour. Very disappointed and will not be going back.

I have been to Japan twice, and most of what I ate at St Sushi last night was better than anything I had there!I had a first course of Avocado maki, seared tuna nigiri, scallop dynamite and mini vegetable tempura - the seared tuna and the scallop dynamite were probably the best sushi I've ever had. After all that I had the beef stir fry, which is mixed with vegetables, comes with jasmine rice and is done in a tasty dark sauce.All in all this was a very welcome find in Newcastle - even though being a Saturday night they were busy they found room for me and I thoroughly enjoyed it.All the staff were superb, efficient and knowledgeable.The next time I'm in Newcastle I will definitely book a table here and eat superb Japanese!

Visited for lunch with my son. We had bento boxes, teriyaki salmon and chicken. Both were absolutely clean by the time we finished, utterly delicious. At £7.95 from the lunchtime menu, great value too. One of our favourites in Newcastle.

Absolutely delicious food. I would highly recommend the bento boxes. It is so expensive but the food is amazing so that doesn’t matter.

En primer lugar, el servicio fue muy pobre. O eran muy pocas personas o simplemente no estaban interesados. Solo puedo calificar la comida que comí que era prácticamente no comestible. El pollo estaba grasoso e insípido, el arroz estaba congelado y frío, el curry katsu carecía de un sabor real. Mis amigos japoneses estarían avergonzados de que esto se vendiera como auténtico, nada como lo que he experimentado. Sólo una persona en nuestra mesa disfrutó su comida: salmón. Nunca volveremos. Es muy raro que no encuentre cosas positivas, pero este restaurante no demostró nada más que terrible.

Visited hers August 2019 and food was excellent. The restaurant was very busy so we had to wait a few minutes for a table as we hadnt booked. Staff were great and the quality was fantastic, would highly recommend

Third time here for a takeaway and thought we would give it a last chance. Sushi is just of poor quality and not worth the money at all.

Delicious food and a huge menu to choose from. The dishes actually resemble food we had in Japan, definitely worth a visit. The bento boxes and ramen are great.

Great service, varied menu, good prices and excellent sushi. Extremely busy which may explain the slight lack of finesse in some areas of presentation, but overall a really delightful experience.

From what I ordered (New York roll plate, miso soup and ebi katsu), the food was delicious and well portioned. My friend ordered the teriyaki salmon which was a lovely generous portion. My only negative would be the lighting in the restaurant is quite dim but that is personal preference.

I came with my friend who is from Tokyo and she agrees this is the most authentic and fresh sushi we have had in the UK! I have tried other Japanese restaurants throughout the country and nothing is as delicious as St. Sushi. Highly recommended.

En primer lugar, en esta, nuestra tercera visita, nos dijeron que nos sentaríamos en 15 minutos y, a pesar de que había mesas sin reservas, nos hicieron esperar en el "bar" que tenía dos sillas y éramos tres. No le ofrecimos una tercera silla o una bebida todo el tiempo que ya estábamos disgustados. Después de que nos sentamos y pedimos que llegáramos, el arroz era pobre, en las tres ocasiones en que he estado, el arroz nunca ha sido tan bueno. Una vez, el arroz estaba demasiado caliente para el sushi y los rollos de mano caían y teníamos que apresurarnos a comerlos antes del colapso, y en todas las ocasiones su uramaki (en particular) era tan compacto que el arroz era denso, estaba demasiado recargado y tenía demasiado trabajo . Newcastle, puede que no tenga una gran elección para el sushi auténtico, pero este lugar es otro esfuerzo pobre. Fresh and delicious sushi at ok prices. One of the best sushi places in Newcastle. Great for dinner with friends.

The service here leaves much to be desired. Slow and not particularly helpful. We told the waitress this was our first time eating Japanese and needed some help with our menu choices. With our exploring our like a and dislikes, she recommended food which was not food. Chicken was very fatty. Not much taste. The service throughout the meal was very poor. No interactions from the staff. I wouldn't recommend this place.

Booked here for dinner before the theatre last week and we were not disappointed.The food was excellent ! The Chicken Gyoza followed by a Mixed Seafood Curry and a St.Sushi wok fried noodles with King prawns,Squid,Shrimp,Eel and Flying Fish Roe were superb.We'll definitely be back!

Avec une amie, on est allées par hasard dans ce petit resto japonais qui ne paye pas de mine en milieu d'après-midi, la faim au corps... Et il a comblé toutes nos espérances ! Service efficace, très grand choix de produits, mais surtout incroyable expérience culinaire qui nous a totalement ravies ! On reviendra, au moins une fois par mois ! Busy little restaurant with a great atmosphere. Extensive range of Japanese dishes on offer. We particularly enjoyed the spicy tuna tempura maki.

There was a really large variety of food available, what a tried tasted fresh and very nice. The place has a nice atmosphere and is very clean. I would definitely visit again!

Got seated straight away the menu is big I mean 20 pages big pages long came in a reasonable amount of time however I never had Japanese food so i don’t know how it was supposed to taste the miso soup and ramen broth were really salty and the flavour was bland you couldn’t really taste it the potato tempura was soggy and just wierd I like the restaurant but I don’t think the food is for me I would prefer to just go for a burger

Very rude to their customers. Staff and manager needs to learn proper customer service. Sushi and sashimi was tasteless like they’ve washed it under tap water before serving, I reckon to get rid of the rotten fish taste. Will never return!

Visited on Monday evening, very last minute so we hadn't booked a table. Luckily it seems most people just walk in so we had no problem being seated.

Visit this restaurant fairly regularly and I've never had a bad meal. The service is always great, the food is always amazing and the beer is always cold. There is a great selection, I'm a vegan and my partner is not so to go somewhere we both love is great. The seaweed salad is one of my favs and the tofu katsu is so tasty. The selection of sushi is unreal from classics to new combos, something for everyone. Amazing place.

Arrived at the restaurant only to find out that it’s been closed since 6th Aug till 19th Aug. Disappointed that there’s no info on trip advisor about the temporarily closure.

Visited for the first time this week, won’t go anywhere else in town for sushi now! Excellent menu choice, we had bento boxes, sashimi and some sushi rolls - all absolutely delicious and very reasonably priced we felt. I echo what someone previous said about the size of the rolls, definitely several bites worth! Staff friendly and helpful. Really glad we’ve found this place.

We had lunch there. Food and service were good, and they had earned a generous tip - until I went to pay. Having travelled from Belfast, my wallet was full of NI banknotes as Bank of England are rarely dispensed by the ATMs. Northern Ireland banknotes are issued by NI banks and have £ Stg value protection equivalent to the Bank of England. We were told quite bluntly "we don't accept that". I pointed out that it is £ Stg. It is accepted by the banks. It is UK currency. The refusal to accept valid payment was entirely arbitrary and uninformed, and delivered rather bluntly.

My friend and I visited one Saturday afternoon. We enjoyed the bento boxes , sashimi and maki all washed down with a very pleasant bottle of house white wine . This is our go to place for amazing sushi !

Came here with my husband to enjoy some good japanese food - were weren't disappointed! We travelled to Japan in April so had a good comparison. We ordered 4x sushi - the eel maki were particularly good. They were all large so def 2 bite sushi!!

Excellent place to meet friends, Choice is unbelievable, cooked to perfection, very well looked after very down to earth kind of place.

The food here was rather authentic, the salmon was fresh and sliced perfectly, mackerel was perfect and the trademark Japanese sticky rice was brilliant. Very often Japanese restaurants in England fall short when they attempt to make sushi rice. One issue I found was the rice had not cooled long enough and therefore affected the sushi, but it was delicious and some of the best sushi rice I have tried outside of Asia. The tori karaagae was relatively good, and the yaki niku was delicious, the sauce a tiny bit sweet but complimented the beef and mushrooms perfectly; I would 100% recommend. Prices were fair...rather standard for Japanese food, the Unagi could have done being served with a bit more sauce...and the sauce being slightly thicker...But besides that was tasty and cooked well. I would definitely recommend this place, if you're in the mood for Japanese, as always ignore Yo sushi, and Nudo; they're over priced and are unbelievably inauthentic.

Despite the slightly higher price than chain restaurants, This is truly a Japanese gem in Newcastle’s city centre. Fairly priced drinks, great menu and kind staff. Such beautiful salmon sashimi, fried prawn tamaki and beef in teriyaki sauce! Just divine

Lovely fresh sushi. But the house wine isn’t the nicest too dry for my liking which is more my fault than the restaurants. Cute vibes in the restaurant. I love the sashimi and crispy prawn rolls. Staff were quiet but attentive

Ok it food was of but when you spend £30 per person you don’t expect to be charged £1 for sauce a bit of a joke

Food is amazing but price is debatable for some. However the customer service was great especially by Kayne. A lovely lady who was very helpful and polite. Her work ethiquette was on point which reflects with the whole team. Thank you to her for a great experience.

I very much enjoyed my time at this restaurant other than the price of the food. One particular waitress, Kayne, did an amazing job. Welcoming, helpful and delightful! Would come back if she was my waitress again definitely. She should be used as an example to other restaurants.

We went there on a Sunday lunchtime and the place was full - hardly surprising when you review the million page menu of all sorts of delights. We opted for the set menu which was served as it was prepared and included the usual tempura, sushi and miso soup. Didn't feel rushed and had lashings of Sake along the way

I often come to eat in this restaurant, and all the time service and food are the best. That s the best sushi in town !!!

Our son treated us as a belated Christmas present. We often have sushi when we get together - and this place has been the best - the photos speak volumes - delicious food - caring staff - we enjoyed every morsel.

The restaurant has a very nice atmosphere. The food tasted amazing, everything was very fresh. The services was very good, everyone was smiling and were very kind. Definitely a place worth going back for more amazing food.

I’ve been going to st. sushi now for about 3 years and the food is excellent however st. sushi failed massively on customer service last night as we had a table booked for 9:15pm we had trouble parking so arrived at 9:17pm and weren’t allowed to sit, bare in mind we’d travelled half an hour to get to our favourite restaurant. I will not be going back..
