Nudo Sushi Box in Newcastle upon Tyne

I was not happy with the chicken katsu curry I bought here, as the chicken was either not cooked well or it wasn't chicken. The texture was off, and the staff was well-convinced that it was chicken just because the portion size matched the ones in their fridge. If it wasn't well cooked, really hoping that I will not get food poisoning tomorrow.

Firstly, staff, amazing, super friendly and went out of their way to help. Secondly, the food was lovely. Plenty of choice, opted for the noodle soup and char sui pork with rice. Really tasty arrived at table quick and was cooked perfectly. Next time were in Newcastle will be back!

Always go here for lunch when I come in the office, never disappoints. Edit 2023: they changed their recipes and I no longer buy from Nudo

Not as good as it used to be unfortunately. Used to love going here years ago and now they have far less stuff The bubble tea used to be gorgeous and now it tastes awful. Prices have gone up too much too and staff aren't as helpful as they used to be.

I’ve always been really happy with the sushi boxes from any of the outlets but today’s was disappointing. For some reason limp salad is now included in the boxes as a damp bed for the sushi and no pickled ginger is provided! I hope this is a temporary blip snd not the sign of things to come.

I like coming in here, especially after a long day at a convention. Sadly, they didn't have much sushi in stock but the food was worth it.

Amazing food! Love the sushi here, so many veggie options, bao buns, ramen, katsu curry! Give it a visit you won’t regret it, especially vegan/vegetarians.

I love it here, I find the food to be tastey and very well presented. The price is slightly above so only really come here for a treat. The staff are always attentive and explain things as they go

No one else in there when we popped in so no atmosphere. Staff were helpful in choosing takeaway that would keep on our 2hr journey home and were pleasant, my family enjoyed their meals

Amazing food, indoor seating and good offers.

There's better sushi in Chinatown and on Westgate Road but this is worth ditching the supermarket sushi for. Pleasant enough to eat in and close to the civic centre gardens if you want somewhere nice to eat out. Drinks selection could be better but they have the usual candidates.

Good place to grab a quick bite of sushi.

A bit alright, just check your fish everytime. Otherwise you might have a tuna or salmon that tasted like a bear spat it out.

I love getting sushi from here as it is always fresh and they always have a great selection. They also have options for those who are vegan and vegetarian which is very handy.

Sushi tastes authentic, the boxes are secure and they take card payments. The place is clean and well stocked most of the time. Prices are ok.

I used to love getting sushi from there but the last 7-8 times i convinced myself it will be good like it used to i wish I never went in. Please change your sushi/cook because the rice is unspeakably undercooked pleaseee

Went there for lunch today and got the cooked seafood and veg box. Very disappointed. The prawns were like rubber. There were fish eggs inside two of the rolls of the cooked seafood pack. It’s very misleading saying cooked seafood when there is raw fish inside. The rice was very dry. The avocado was brown all the way through. Parts of the seaweed was mushy. Basically the food was old. I asked the guy behind the counter how long it had been there for and he shrugged and said ‘it just stays in the fridge’. A lady came from the back and I told her I was unhappy with the quality and that there were fish eggs in it. She said there wasn’t but then came back and said it was in the ingredients list at the back. Then they both went about their business and ignored the fact I’d put 90% of my meal in the bin as it was inedible. I’m a regular to this place and this experience has completely put me off ever coming back.

Excellent take away. Delivery drivers always super friendly and the food is fresh. Often fresher than if you picked it up in store. Even came with a Xmas card!

This is my favourite go to lunch spot when I go in to town and grab a bite. There is always a wide selection of sushi and I can get straight in and out without any fuss and back to the office to enjoy.

Its not super authentic, but if you need a cheap and yummy lunch it's great. Good selection of sushi and other things like katsu curry.

For years this has been my favourite sushi place. I use the online order to collect from the Newcastle kitchen alot. But I went to the monument store this time. A bit dissapointing recently.... Every other time I go there, the sushi quality is inconsistent. I got a couple of boxes yesterday, both with the same use by date but one of them smelt fishy which we know is the sign of not being quite as fresh. That one also didn't look as appealing with the salmon meat falling away from itself.

Had a salmon teriyaki and some chicken wings. It was just ok, found the pricing was abit high for what you get. Chicken wings were bland, they should include a sauce with it not these random chilli flakes and Edamame beans and sweetcorn. I've had better.

So, I come here aaaall the time for lunch and it’s usually great but a few weeks back I got the salmon and tuna sashimi and the tuna was awful. It was fibrous, almost impossible to bite through, super thick and basically inedible. I went back and they were happy to let me exchange my box for another one which was super nice. However, I went back today and thought I’d try the tuna sashimi again and again it was baaad. I don’t know why happened it used to be lovely! I don’t know if they’ve started using a different supplier and why are they’re cutting it so thick but it’s not pleasant! Generally I would still recommend getting sushi here just avoid the tuna! It’s expensive for the sashimi and it’s simply not a pleasurable experience.

this is not the first time this has happened they charge you over £11.00 then expect you to purchase soy sauce i got a tub with 2 mm of sauce total spoilt meal .. you Email customer service and all you get back is a reply saying thank for telling us

The best takeaway sushi I've ever had (and I travel lots with work). The seared salmon is particularly special... but please leave some for me 😉

I ordered at the Haymarket branch today and was treated really rudely by a member of staff. She misunderstood me and didn’t charge for sit in. I sit outside with my child. Okay. There is a misunderstanding sure; I pay. No, she comes quite aggressively and shoos me away? “You have to pay to sit here”. Why so rude? Never coming back there. Real shame.

I went in today to pick up my mothers lunch but unfortunately I’m mute and haven’t been able to talk since birth. This ( alongside being partially deaf) often makes ordering food particularly difficult. However the staff here were so lovely and helpful as I used my phone to communicate with two members of female staff and used hand gestures with a male member of staff in order to communicate which made me smile as many people wouldn’t have been so helpful and lovely in regards to my disability. The fact that they were smiling rather than sighing or becoming frustrated also meant that I was able to communicate without feeling flustered or panicked. The food was also fantastic according to my mother (so good that she wouldn’t let me steal any from her). As I signed “thank you” as I left the male member of staff also did the same which was such a lovely gesture. Would definitely recommend

I love this place. Their Yakisoba with Tofu and Vegy Gyoza tofu dumplings box is so tasty and healthy that it’s a challenge not to visit it every day! Staff are friendly and the prices reasonable.

Not good sushi. The packaging and the way the sushi is displayed is great but the most important thing, the food, was not. The salmon and tuna fish on top of the nigiri rice was fresh but the issue was the rice itself. The grains were mushy and chewy (overcooked, halfway to congee) and the seasoning was not quite right. Overall I didn't feel like I was eating sushi. I felt like I was eating raw fish with plain unseasoned bowl of white chewy overcooked rice. Unless this is changed, I doubt I could recommend this place to any friends, family or colleagues.

Picked up some takeaway sushi & was delighted to see some GLUTEN FREE on the shelf edge labeling. Opened at home & just happened to check the ingredients on the soy sauce & WHEAT clearly labelled. There were no ingredients on any of the other items so i called them. They said they used to have a gluten free soy in the pack. I said fine but why has the shelf edge labelling not been changed? Their reply was 'customers usually check at the till' REALLY.....? Otherwise it was lovely food, but although they took my number for the manager, no call as yet.

The staff are really friendly and helpful. There is lots of choice and don’t be put off by just thinking everything is raw fish - lots of hot food options, as well as things like dumplings.

Today was the first time i have bought sushi from here and i thorughly enjoyed it. Very good selection and was torn between a few options. I bought Sweet Chilli Chicken Katsu Set and it was delicious.

Really good selection of sushi to take away, very resonably priced for what you are getting. Better than a lot of the sushi restaurants that are available. Always make a point of going in at least once on a visit to the Toon.

The Chicken Japanese Curry and rice was very average whilst the Chicken & vegetable dumplings was very poor. The quality of the chicken in both dishes is terrible, the Gyoza soggy but also somehow chewy (they were meant to be crisp) and the food is inconsistently heated in the microwave. In terms of price, this is poor value for money, I paid £7 for each, when I’d value them around £4 max. The only reason I didn’t rate this 1/5 is because it was reasonably filling due to the high rice content. I’m not sure of the hype about this place, I would recommend Shijo which is not too far of a walk away.

I visit nudo at least once or twice a week for my sushi fix, and have done for the last 3 years. I didn't think I would be able to find somewhere that had affordable and tasty sushi to offer, but boy was I wrong! Nudo has been my go to food stop for so long, with a massive variety of fresh and tasty sushi, but not only that, they also have a great selection of hot food too! So healthy and tastes great. The service is top notch, the staff are very friendly and helpful, I often ask them for their recommendations and they have not failed me yet! With so much to offer and a great atmosphere too, I couldn't NOT recommend Nudo to anyone who'll listen!

We dined in and enjoyed our food. My choice was the chicken katsu pot with rice, edamame and sweet chilli. The friend had some tuna and salmon nigiri.

Went here a few times for lunch, last time was with a friend who came to visit Newcastle. The choice of boxes is quite broad and reasonably priced! It might not be as good as in a proper Japanese restaurant but it is still tasty and good enough! :)

Very disappointed, paid £4.95 for bland dry, hard "Chicken Teriyaki" on a bed of bland rice which tasted like it was days old and stuck so hard the I had to cut into it with my chop sticks, I understand sticky rice is meant to be sticky, but it is meant to be fresh and easy to pull apart. The only thing I enjoyed was my 95p can diet coke...person I was with said their salmon was bland too, our food came to £12 and im now wondering after reading another review, if we did get charged for sitting in and chopsticks.... Conclusion, avoid, go to wagamamma instead or M&S for sushi which is much fresher and better quality... this was rubbish! Wont be back. goodluck.

My wife and I enjoyed the food here very much. Popped in at lunchtime after shopping and were greeted warmly by two smiling members of staff.The food was delicious, we ate a noodle soup with meatballs and veg and a Salmon dish with rice. Both were excellent. The best £12 we've spent on lunch in a long time.When we left a friendly female member of staff asked us if we enjoyed the food and gave us a warm smile as we left.

I doubt the sushi served is the highest quality but it is delicious and very good value. Definitely worth a visit.

Love this place, great find. Lots of unusual varied Sushi and Sashimi served in little boxes. Lots of noodles served hot if you wish. All look freshly made. Plus quirky smaller eats and loads of Asian snack bags I've never seen or tasted before.I had Seared Swordfish Sashimi served with Soy Sauce, Ginger & Wasabi. Delicious. Only a 'snack' box so not a full meal. Also tried Spicy Strip Beancurd & Seaweed Salad very unusual. Best of all was their Cucumber with Garlic. Loved this, nice and fresh (and garlicky). Great selection of stuff here.Its a takeaway but you can eat-in if you want. A change from all those tacky chicken joints and greasy burger bars. This is low-cal healthy grub. Nice, clean and smart inside. Had no issues at all with the service. Very helpful. Will definitely visit again. I say give it a try and you may like it.

Every day I walk past this restaurant (if it can be called that) and hope to see the shutters down and the for sale sign up. The reason I feel this way is twofold Firstly, the sushi itself is extremely poor quality and is genuinely worse than what you would expect from a Boots or Tesco meal deal packet (which is obviously disgusting to anyone who likes sushi). It is just monumentally bad.Secondly is the service, which is the more infuriating of my two grievances. Never before in my life have I been CHARGED FOR CHOPSTICKS AND A SPOON. After ordering and paying for my sushi and Miso soup and finding a seat I get up to request chopsticks and a spoon for the miso - only to be told that there is a charge for this?!?!? I had to join the back of the queue just to pay 7p for disposal chopsticks - totally outrageous. This place does well to capitalise on the lack of sushi available in Newcastle but would be dead within weeks in London or most capital cities worldwide

There were three members of staff on this evening and it was not busy. We got told off for looking at items on the top shelf. There was no sign asking us not to touch the top shelf. The assistant was very rude and scared another couple off. The food was fine but with what happened it upset my Date night with my husband. I feel staff could help customers. I was very disappointed and will not return because of this reason.

I am usually a regular in here including most of our office, after using Brexit (considering where not even out the euro yet) as an excuse to hike the prices is a little unfair to your customers, usually the food is amazing however hiking the price so it now costs £6.75 for a curry an increase of £1.75 this is a little off putting and it usually comes rather dry you can go to Yo sushi and pay a little extra and have a full meals, most of our office refuse to buy food due such high price increases..

I got the pre maid shark and rice with dumplings and it was fantastic, I do go to this nudo and the other in Jesmond quite frequently and never had a bad experience. The staff are fantastic and always very friendly! Great place

Food is amazing and tasty, however I ordered the beancurd skin in spring onion dressing and it smelled and tasted like chicken, as a vegan of two years I found this disgusting and didn't eat it, so any veggies ordering this be wary.

I often pop in here after a shopping trip in town to have some sushi while waiting for the next bus. The sushi is always lovely, friendly staff and a good place to people watch if you have a window seat.

Excellent choice for a fast snack yet tasty and filling. You can grab your box of sushi and enjoy in a so relaxing atmosphere. The staff are so friendly and welcoming.

I really love sushi so.. i'm constantly searching places for eat nice sushi and maybe not really expensive.The Nudo's sushi is not the best i ever had but.. is nice, taste, fresh and the CHEAPEST i ever bought.Perfect for a snack, for a fast healty meal o for taking at home and eat when you whatch your favourite tv series.
