Thaymar Tea Room in Bassetlaw

We always have a great meal here, a great choice and caters well for Gluten free too. When you pull into the carpark do not get put off if there is a large queue on a hot day, this is generally just for the ice cream counter.

Fantastic ice cream, with plenty of flavours to pick from. The food and desserts coming out too, looked amazing. Nice little gift shop attached, which includes their takeaway meals. Animals such as chickens, horses, and sheep, for the kids.

Do not look at this menu and think it’s a basic cafe/ pannini that you are getting. It’s far from that. Honestly we had the most amazing baguettes. Gorgeous side salad and well the ice cream! Wow. Genuinely taste like the flavours and not a synthetic one. I think we have found our new favourite place to escape.

Went a few days ago for an ice cream. Ordered a scoop in a tub with some chocolate sauce. Was told by the youth serving me that he can only serve the sauce if I buy a (lot more expensive) sundae! When I asked why he told me is was their 'rule' and he had to follow it. Told him I didn't expect it for free and was happy to pay for it. Reply was that it "wasn't listed in the till menu" so he'd no way of charging me. Told him that every till has a Misc button that he can press and then enter the amount but he still refused. Petty stupidity beyond belief. Won't be going back.

Went Sunday morning for coffee and breakfast with the kids. Service was a touch slow but it was rammed but good service overall when it came. Lovely strong pot of coffee & cappuccinos. Sausage sandwich was tasty, lovely cheese scone and mozzarella & chorizo baguette. Wife had the cheese on toast which was tasty, but could be loads better for £6.50 it was 2 slices of brown bread and a bit of cheese (nice cheese though). They need to up there game charging this? Would have expected at least sourdough and a bit of salted butter, just an idea. Deserts of ice cream and was smiles all round. But solid 7/10. Touch disappointed..

Always good food and service with good variety of dishes plus great ice cream. Can be a little cramped but food overcomes this Good external decking for good weather eating

Perfect place to stop for excellent coffee literally just a few minutes from the A1. Had we been here a couple of hours later we would have stopped for lunch. Speedy service, the breakfast and lunch menus looked well thought out and reasonably priced. A good pit stop

Great place to stop just of A1. We sampled the best of both worlds here, lunch in the tea room followed by ice creams. Great service and tasty food. We happened to visit on a sunny day and clearly this is a destination place of choice for ice cream as the queue for ice cream must have been 50 people deep! Dont be put off if you are stopping for the tea room you don’t have to join the ice-cream queue, have your lunch/tea and if you want ice cream after it will be served to you in the tearoom

We haven't been here for a meal and decided to give it a go. Usually we have paninis or baguettes, but this time opted for something from the specials board. We ordered 1 pulled pork open sandwich with a salad garnish and 1 creamy chicken in Stilton and apricot sauce with rice and seasonal vegetables. Both were delicious and good sized portions. We also had 1 cold drink and 1 coffee. Although there was a queue we got a table immediately as there were only 2 of us. There are many flavours of ice cream, but we were full. I would thoroughly recommend this place and it is well worth waiting a while for a table. We're already planning another visit !

Stopped off here on the way to and from Scotland with family and 2 dogs. Had a great welcome, excellent tasty food which catered for everyone, and which arrived quickly. So much nicer than the soulless, busy and dirty service stations. Your food choice is amazing and loved the specials board. All food was reasonably priced and we all left having had a decent break from the trials of the A1. Highly recommend you and will be back when we next tackle the A1!

What a find, fabulous little farm cafe, great food, fair prices, lovely friendly service and ice cream that is amazing - get off the A1 heading north at the junction with the B6387 sign posted Ollerton, literally 3-4 mins from the A1, far better than any motorway services ! Open 7 days a week

Excellent food and service. You can't book a table but we didn't have to wait long for one to become free when we were there. Will try the ice cream next time - so many flavours to choose from. Do good gifts in the shop as well.

We haven't been here for a meal since covid, so decided to pay a visit for lunch. We both had chicken, bacon and mushroom baguettes served with a salad garnish and a large bowl of pasta salad and coleslaw. We had a side of skin on fries and 2 coffees. It was absolutely lovely and very tasty especially the bacon. Perhaps the bowls of coleslaw/pasta salad could be a bit smaller as it was a large portion. The service was efficient and waitress was very polite. Although it seemed a little expensive it represented good value as portions were large and quality very good. Overall we were very impressed and will return soon.

A family group of us returned and the food was really delicious - the specials board had lots of treats to offer and the baguettes are divine! And obviously, the ice-cream is lush!

We'd promised our daughter that we'd stop for an ice-cream during our journey on the A1, so glad we found Thaymar Tearoom! There was an amazing choice of ice-cream. It was quite busy but the staff were really efficient. It was lovely to sit in the deckchairs outside and watch the free range chickens. Thoroughly recommended! We will happily return if we are in the area again

Really impressed with the food (really tasty and big portions), but the service was really poor. Not a single smile from the lady serving us the whole time we were there. We had a pram with us and so asked if it would be better if we sat in the back corner table (we were trying to be helpful and make sure the pram didn't get in the way of staff/other customers in the middle of the cafe ) and she looked furious and said 'well you'll have to wait for me to clean it then'. I politely explained to her we were trying to be helpful and she just scowled. After she left my toddler nervously told me 'Mummy that lady isn't very nice...' When my partner went to order (we weren't sure if it was table service) she snapped at him that he needed to go back to the table and wait. If we hadn't all been starving we'd have left then! Hoping it was a one off as the other staff seemed lovely and the food was delicious. But it really spoiled our experience:( not sure if we'll come back...

Went with my Granddaughter and Two Great Granddaughters age 9 years and 6 years in the Summer holidays 2022. We had a short wait for a table as we were not able to book however it was well worth the short wait the food was well presented and of good quality and well presented also the home made ice cream delicious and large portions. not the cheapest of places however considering what we had it was worth every penny, certainly will visit again.

Dear owner of Thaymar, we visit your premises regularly sometimes twice a week. We have a 3 year old daughter and an 8 month daughter, previously when we have visited we've asked for a small tub for our eldest daughter, and could we split a small tub with half one flavour and half another? which hasn't previously been a problem, she's only small and that's why she only has a small tub with either one scoop one flavour or split. She wouldn't eat 2 scoops and it would be wasteful. Today on arrival at 4pm we were served, it was fairly busy but nothing out of the ordinary. I asked for what we've had previously, so our ice creams as adults although today I didn't have one and our 3 year olds who knows she's aloud 2 flavours in one pot as she's had this from Thaymar previously. When I asked I was told no we don't do that it's double scoop or single, I told the lady that we've previously had a single scoop split but it was reiterated we don't split single scoop. I was annoyed but didn't say anything as my wife said it's okay we will have double. We went to sit down outside and the top scoop is bulging out of the tub, my wife and I know my daughter won't eat this but what do you tell a 3 year old that's been deciding what 2 flavours to have for the last day to then say no sorry only one now. I'm not about to do that I don't go back on my word to a young child. We worked around this by getting our 8 month olds travel plate out of the boot of the car and split the ice cream so she was able to get to the second flavour. I was very annoyed but calm, I walking back in to Thaymar and waited patiently at the till with my 8 month old. A lady served me and as I didn't wish to cause a scene I asked if I could have a minute of her time away from other customers. I explained the situation, she said that its discretionary and that it happens if they arent busy, i explained that its not okay and the inconsistencies aren't okay and i wasnt happy, she said she would ask the manager to come see me, i let her know were we were sat and went to sit with the family until the manager came out. We waited 20 minutes for the manager to come speak with us but no one came, so we left. The inconsistency of what just happened isn't okay. If I hadn't have been offered a single scoop split to 2 flavours in the first place for my eldest daughter I wouldn't have 1 had conversations with my daughter pre visit and 2 been asking for it on arrival to then be made to look foolish in front of a queue of other customers. I cant even put into words how disappointed we are, we come and visit regular and this was a punch in the gut, more so that no one could be bothered to come talk to us. I think our future business may lie elsewhere as much as previous visits have been pleasant. Disappointed, annoyed and made to look stupid

Just to say a big thank you, we had lunch today at Thaymar’s, my sister felt ill, due to pregnancy. The staff could not do enough for her even at a very busy time.

I went with my mum and sister. I’m pregnant and had a really funny turn just as we were seated. The lady serving us couldn’t do enough for me, she brought me a glass of coke outside to bring my sugars up and offered to change my order in case I didn’t feel like eating what I had originally ordered. No matter how many ice creams we try, none never compare! I enjoyed 1 scoop of banana and honeycomb ice cream and 1 scoop of ginger on a chocolate honeycomb cone for I think £3.20?? It was £3 something but definitely not over priced for how amazing the taste is. Thaymars is a lovely drive out to and has an amazing setting to enjoy an ice cream.

I often visit, the service and food is great, the staff are delightful and it is a lovely safe location down a long tarmaced drive. Prices are good too. Since joining the rapidly expanding vegan population I have found that staff don't seem to know which cakes are vegan. Surely at least one is. But the place is so good that I will return even if I have to just drink and not eat.

Called mid week lunchtime it was busy got seated and the waitress asked if we wanted drinks then came back a few minutes later for our order the meal was excellent I had the Kofta with flatbread and salad my wife had the pulled pork with chips and salad we shared a banana split to finish the service the meal and the surrounding could not be faulted would recommend this place to any one.

Were recommended to go to this venue for lunch by staff at nearby Gamston airport. They were not wrong, we were very impressed. Also very convenient for but not adjacent to the A1 and so very peaceful.

Having found this little gem on Tripadvisor and it’s outstanding reviews we gave it a try on our way to Lincoln. It was lunchtime when we arrived and decided to go for a light lunch. My wife chose the tuna mayonnaise sandwich and I had the ham and cream cheese with tomato salsa on a baguette. Both were absolutely delicious. Freshly made with good quality ingredients and served with by a lovely friendly person. We choose to eat at this type of farm shop/cafe, on a journey, as opposed to a motorway services simply because the food quality and service are way above that of the services. This particular farm shop is up there with the very best of what we’ve sampled. We will be calling back again very shortly.

This was a beautiful cafe and setting. The food range is extensive and the coffee is one of the best lattes I have had in a long time. They do soya coffee so fabulous if you are vegan. Place is small but not too small and outside seating is available. A great friendly place, great staff, top notch food. A tad bit pricey but well worth it for the service, food and it keeps the clientele nice.

A really pleasant little cafe-style restaurant, with a decent range of food ranging from nibbles to full-blown meals. We had a beef chilli and cheese scones, and they were both very good. Recommended.

My wife and I visit Thaymar at least once every month for lunch and every now and then to also collect a 4 or 5 litre tub of our favourite ICE CREAM The owners and the waitress's are very friendly and the food they serve is very good indeed

Following a deeply depressing experience at the Harley Cafe at Welbeck Abbey, we were so pleased to find this lovely little place a short drive away. Set on a working farm, it's full of character. We received a warm welcome, were quickly seated and presented with a well-thought-out menu. The wonderful range of home made ice creams on display were too tempting to resist, along with cakes that were clearly homemade. Everything was great quality and good value. We'll be back!

It was easy to find, free parking. Nice surroundings and nice tea rooms. There was an excellent choice on the menu at reasonable prices. The food I ordered was beautiful, couldn't have been any better. Then we had ice cream which was wonderful. The restaurant was busy, staff friendly, and all in all it was a fabulous lunch. Decided to pay a first visit today, even tho we only live a couple of miles away, and what a delight it was! Cannot fault it, staff were lovely and friendly, we only had a snack but even that was lovely, toasted tea cake which came with its own little pat of butter all wrapped up. Too many people crammed into a small cafe with uncomfortable, hard, seats. Food was barely approaching average thanks to the Lamb Tangine with tooth cracking hard rice. Would not return.

What a lovely place in the middle of nowhere. It was packed when we got here at 2pm with party tables and individuals, The service was quick and waiters where very good. I had Pear and Stilton which was excellent. It was only £12 for 2 pots of tea and the meal, excellent value. There is a fabulous gift shop, not overpriced and their well known range of ice cream. I had a look on TripAdvisor to see if there were any cafes just off the A1 and found this gem of a place. They have a very extensive menu, that included several soups that were all gluten free. I will have to come back as the celeriac and apple soup filled me up (which I opted to have with cheese on toast). The others in my group had the scotch broth from the specials board.

We've visited this lovely family run restaurant during the summer for their fabulous home made ice cream. But for November we decided to try out their burgers which had been tempting me for months.

Decided to try Thaymars for my annual Christmas meal treat with my dad and respective spouses, and we were not disappointed.We had a 2pm booking and although very busy as usual were seated promptly. The 3 course meal was very good value for £20 per head, all home made and local ingredients. Good choice for 2 meat eaters and 2 vegetarians. We were not rushed and to top off a lovely chilled afternoon were the wonderful, attentive but not overpowering staff. The perfect balance in customer care. Of course I will return based on a memorable afternoon.

Husband and I had a fantastic Christmas lunch here at Thaymar. As always, the food was superb and the staff here are attentive without being intrusive. I had lamb tagine and husband had beef wellington and pulled pork croquette to start. I had the best ever Christmas pudding, lovely and moist and no overly sweet. Bought a few tubs of ice cream to keep us going, however, I suspect I shall be making an extra trip next week to buy extra! (and have another nice lunch). All credit to the wonderful people who work at Thaymar - it is the best eatery in this area.

On 20/10/2018. My friend and I ordered (1 ) toasted ham with onion and chutney (onion and chuckney come together with the optional filling) (2) toasted cheese with onion and chutney. Both orders come with side salad (included). The order was not double checked by the waitress.

The September sun was glorious. Where to go for our wedding anniversary lunch? There is only one place that I know of which is unusual and so consistent as a restaurant. It is a lovely Isolated venue-which also has the reputation for making the best ice cream across the whole of Nottinghamshire. It had to be the THAYMAR. You take the A638 from the Markham Moor roundabout on the A1. Look out for the sign to the tiny Gamston Airport on the A 6 387. From Retford take the London Road A638, also looking out for the airport sign. You will know you are near when you cross over the A1 below.

We have just made our first visit; a visit made as a result of a recommendation from strangers as we were walking in Thoresby. A pre-check on TA reviews suggested it was a safe bet for a visit.

Visited with the OH after a day out near Newark. We've been there several times before and love the ice cream so we stayed for a late lunch. There's plenty of options on the menu - we had lamb kofte on flatbread with feta, and brie and bacon baguette. Followed up with ice cream cones of course (lemon curd for me and rum and raisin for him). You can even buy tubs of the gorgeous stuff to take home, and there's a few nice little things in the small shop area too. Lovely.

We had a friend visiting England from LA for the first time and wanted to take him somewhere nice for lunch. It was spot on. The weather was perfect so the surrounding area was green and lush. As we entered he was blown away by the charm and the ambiance of the place. Welcomed by an array of different ice creams could easily distract from ordering lunch, but we were good and were shown swiftly to a table inside. The seating area is a little cramped but ok. The menu offers a lovely choice of sandwiches, jacket potatoes, ciabattas and warm baguettes. As well as a variety of other things including cream teas and sweet treats. The food was cooked fresh and presented beautifully. Also their menu does state that they offer Gluten free options, ask for details. As we left we had an ice cream to go. Our friend was so full he needed to go home for a lay down. I think we made a perfect choice. I would recommend this all day long. Easy to get to, plenty of parking, first class service and food.

Discovered this gem when buying an ice cream at YWT Potteric Carr site. Decided to try it out and have a lunch after visiting Clumber Park. What a pleasant surprise the wonderful selection of meals and dishes and at such reasonable prices and great quality. This is obviously a hidden gem for locals but if you are in the area I fully recommend a visit and don’t forget to purchase some of their delicious ice cream in a wonderful selection of flavours.

This is becoming a regular place to visit each time I’m in this direction. Every time I’m spoilt for choice and spend ages picking what I would like, and I never regret my choice. Always service with a smile too

Visitors with my husband for lunch . I have food intolerances and eating out can be difficult. However the staff were more than happy to adapt the menu and I created my own dish with no issues.

We called and had an ice cream, loads of flavours to choose from beautifully rich ice cream not outrageously expensive. £3.20 for a generous double cone. We sat on one of the many outside benches and enjoyed our treat. The chickens wondering around were great entertainment. Save a bit of cone for them!
