Thali Cafe in Bristol, City of

Decided to try after walking past this place many times. Some of the food was ok such as the Indian starters. The mains were not very good my chicken looked like it was under cooked and the potatoes came out slightly cold. The service was not the best waited a while to be served and had to go to the counter to get bill, then added a service charge. Would not go back again expensive for what was served. The atmosphere seemed good but the restaurant seemed very cold.

I came to this restaurant after the good reviews but as an Indian I found the food very average and not at all authentic.

Unique and warming atmosphere. Thali is so much more than somewhere to eat. The food is delicious. Everyone in the restaurant was noticeably enjoying companionship. Great food and friendly service

Extremely rude waiter, long haired mullet. Completely understand the restaraunt was busy but it’s not what you say to a customer it’s how you say it. He had a rude tone of voice and was not apologetic at all. No customer service skills whatsoever when it came to his response for asking to order.

Really gone downhill. The food isn't as good. Dosa potato as a side on of the Thali (lazy!), salad replaced by a scrap of pickled onion, cold food, tips asked for which is uncomfortable, daily offers forgotten about meaning that you have to ask for them to be applied.

Went to Thali with my daughter, her husband and 3 children. Absolutely loved it the children had a great time and loved the food as did we. Great service, atmosphere and food!

really nice place [our birthday] , big place too so a bit unusual, eclectic mix of furniture - nice touch trouble was that despite the staff always being really efficient and friendly i had to meet the one with [lovely] pink hair but no ability to make a cuppa. she just dumped in any old amount of tea which made it more like dark brown tar ...yes she did replace it, and gave me the ole RBFto let know she didn't want to [not meaning to insult her but its the official perfect fit] i don't need this nonsense when i'm paying £7.40 [or 30] for one cup of tea and a cake, although they are always happy to refill pot if you know to ask in all fairness its a damn good cafe as they go, but am not going in again till we get this sorted with management

We tried paneer masala Dosa, masala Dosa, we also tried masala tea, I loved there 4 chatni's with papodam. That was a nice snack. Ambience is good and happy😍

One of my favorite places to go for an tasty Indian and right in the the heart of Easton. I love their chicken dish! Tasty house dips for your naan/papadam. Well worth a visit.

Quite a dark restaurant but I liked it - it set a really nice tone. Food was very flavourful and we really enjoyed eating here. I recommend some kulfi after...a really nice sweet treat after your dinner. :)

Quiero decir, cant le enseñan a la gente cómo hacer té . . . no es ciencia cohete. todavía ella sigue tirando el té en la olla sin ninguna medición (aprender es algo maravilloso) Cuando lo cuestionamos cortésmente, ella rectificó cosas groseras, pero estaba completamente desinteresada, y a juzgar por su expresión, todo fue un poco difícil. . . . . después de un día de trabajo, realmente no necesitamos esta tontería. ¿De verdad esperan que nos arriesguemos con la comida? 90 por una olla de una taza, pero para ser justos, no parece importarles darte una recarga si lo pides. El resto del personal es genial, y conocedor de la bebida y la comida, el ambiente es fresco y relajado.

Very disappointed with the thali of late. Have been a regular customer since it opened a longtime ago. The menu is limited and only 2 dishes I recommend. Recently encountered a very rude member of staff, where I left and chose to eat elsewhere. Such a shame as it was my regular for a longtime.

Every time I went past this place, I saw people eat masala dosa. May be a good place for dosa and other street foods, but Thali is not up to the mark, and definitely a Thali is not complete if you serve it without a chapati. As an Indian who knows Thali in India, curries were sub-standard here, and the Thali plate was sad looking. The aloo side dish had no salt in it. Rice was nowhere near hot. It was almost room temperature. Staff were friendly and kind, and the atmosphere was great. Sad to say, Thali at Thali sucks, despite trying it again second time after 2016, nothing has improved. Extortionate prices too. I will definitely go again but try dosa.

Popped in for a thali after a visit to IKEA with my daughter. Food was delicious.

Omg I was travelling into Bristol to meet friends and thought it would be a great idea to order food to go ...which I did and I got notifications etc and a final email to say it was ready only to turn up and have to wait approximately an hour to actually get our take away!! If I knew there was such a long delay I wouldn't have ordered...if the communication was better we may have gone and come back or cancelled the order, in any case it's put me off going. The food however is really good 👍🏼

Totally dysfunctional, we went there, ordered food came out wrong, rather than resolving, the waitress started stating its not her fault as she didn't take the order. This is 1. Not the point and 2. You represent the establishment. We never implied that it was her fault, but after three attempts to bring out the wrong food, we had to step in firmly and were offered an immediate refund for the mistaken dish. This is OK, but for such a simple menu, not acceptable situation. Secondly, 20 mins to get a masala Chai. Until we chased, no one was dealing with the order. It was ready to go. We were there for almost 2 hours for a fast lunch. Not visiting again.

Everything about this place is what I love - incredible authentic Thalis, although this time I had the Sri Lankan Omelette which is a perfect breakfast. Amazing bauhemian atmosphere and great staff.

We really enjoyed our visit to Thali. great food, good value and friendly servers. The thali format really works well, I’m surprised there are not more like it.

Been many times and it’s a nice, relaxed place - lately though it’s just resting on its laurels a bit. The menu doesn’t really change much and twice now they’ve brought a tortilla wrap instead of a chapati which is shoddy.

Hands down, an amazing Indian restaurant in Bristol. The aloo paratha is highly recommended because it's extremely flavorful and pocket friendly. The Mumbai city snacks were also very good! I would definitely visit this restaurant to try their other delicacies!

What a fantastic place! Amazing food and brilliant service.

We had a takeaway and it was sublime! A really delicious curry and an easy click and collect set up. Most dishes seem to be gluten and dairy free also which makes it much easier for people with intolerances like me!

Went for dinner on a Sunday night. Cute decor and friendly staff. Food was sub-par and certainly not authentic. We tried the punjabi paneer thali, keralan chicken curry, Goan fish curry and chappatis. The thali was a good size meal, however the curries were not the best, with poorly balanced flavours. Keralan chicken curry was watery and heavily salted, with not much else in flavour. Again the goan fish curry was also watery, with a tasteless white fish and had no complexity of flavour. The chappatis were dry, and tasted as if reheated from a packet. Having seen the reviews I was very disappointed in the food, can only assume that the majority of visitors are not familiar with authentic north or south Indian cuisine. I would not visit again.

I like visiting here when I'm in Bristol. It's a relaxing environment with delicious food and drinks. There's a varied selection of gluten free options so I'm happy! My first Uttapam -Wow! (Hopefully not my last!) A flavourful rice bread with coconut, herbs and spices, accompanied by a chutney. Apart from my regular hot chocolate with oat milk, my favourite raspberry, ginger and lime cooler is a winner! I've always experienced friendly, smiley service. All good!

Alfie & Josh were great! They gave myself and my partner advice on which vegetarian dishes and drinks to go for. We had the Punjabi Paneer which was delicious along with the lentil daahl, chapatis, poppadoms, chutneys etc. Mango Lussi drinks were also divine. Nothing was ever too much for Alfie & Josh and they were quick to help and top us up 😊

After doing extensive research to find Indian food in Bristol, I went to the restaurant this afternoon. However, we didn't have a really worthwhile experience. I won't recommend this place if you want to have good Indian food, but you can go there and sit down if you just want to relax. food we consumed mostly has less than 5% of a link to Indian cuisine. Even the most basic meals lack an Indian flavor. Absolutely not worth the money spent if the meal is subpar. You must place your order at the counter because staff won't happily come to your table to take it. They would charge you a 10% service charge at the end of the bill. It is wholly against the council's regulations. They will claim that this service price is optional and that it serves as a tip for them if you inquire about it.

We had a lovely birthday lunch today. Delicious food and wonderful service. A big thank you to our waiter who promptly called an ambulance when my son collapsed with heat stroke and was so attentive helpful and caring. What lovely staff you employ. It made a stressful situation bearable. Thank you Thali team easton 👏

Great takeaway, restaurant good too!

Lovely food, with the right balance of spices, and generous portions. Quick service (so ideal if you have children or very impatient people in your party). We ordered two thalis and two sides, plus popadom, to share between us (3 people). It was more than enough. Value for money food, especially now that eating out can be very expensive.

Weird, almost hipster-vibe to the place which contrasts from the decor and the menu. The staff is friendly, the food is delicious, the cost is higher than I'd have liked to see.

The food here was decent, a bit different and really reasonably priced. The atmosphere on a Friday night wasn't too hectic and we got a table easily. Only downside was the service, although friendly enough basics like cutlery were forgotten and the server wasn't overly helpful.

I have been looking forward too, and awaiting the right opportunity to try this restaurant after hearing about it from a well impressed friend who came some time ago now. And living in Newport and on my own!🙄 I could never really justify traveling the distance. And then eventually this month the opportunity arose for me to try it when all my boys came to visit. One is a chef and one is a vegetarian. And the other two like myself will try anything once. And I have to say I was really really impressed with absolutely everything we tried. It was a take away meal that I collected. And it was superb and still actually quite warm when I got it home. Everything tasted fresh and the flavors were amazing!! While I was waiting for my food I felt welcome and the staff were lovely especially the lady who served me. And everything was over and above my wildest expectations and I can't wait for the opportunity to order from there again.

Recommended by a business colleague. This place serves thali platters of a small curry with rice, vegetable curry, dhal, salad and raita. The food is quite bland but tasty enough. I’d suggest buying some chappatis to go with it and mop up the sauce. Very efficient staff and pleasant enough ambience.

They had some vegan options, so we decided to check it out. The adult thali meals were pretty big, though quite expensive given that they are made with cheap materials (lentils, rice, chickpeas). The children's vegan option was vegan sausage, rice, bananas, and juice, and desperately lacked vegetables (thankfully, we could share our food with them but at least they could have been given some lentils or cucumber/carrot sticks or similar). It was nice enough, but not amazing.

We never miss a chance to eat here when in Bristol. In the heart of Easton lies the city’s best Indian restaurant serving perfect masala dosas, delicious Chicken and Fish curry’s and really amazing vegetarian/vegan options. Staff are super friendly and efficient, great atmosphere and excellent for kids. The chicken curry is my sons favourite meal on the planet! Could do with a bigger selection of beers but very difficult to fault. You won’t get a better Indian outside of India!

We went there with our 8 year old who's autistic and will only eat very few things when out and about. They do the crispness of dosas which my son absolutely loved. My husband took their chole thali, and I ordered their Goan fish thali - everything tasted delicious and fresh. The ambience is fun and quirky, and the service really prompt and friendly. Would strongly recommend this place!

Littlest Foodie has been to Thali before and enjoyed it, so as we love our curries we wanted to try it too. We popped in on our way back from Ikea, which if anyone's been to Ikea, you'll know it is not a quick trip and you certainly feel hungry when you've finished. Althouth I'm sure their sausages/hot dogs & meatballs are all very tasty, they're not for us on a Saturday night. May try one Saturday afternoon? But that's not why we're here. This adorable little, well not so little, restaurant is tucked away in the Easton area of Bristol with friendly welcoming staff, indoor and outdoor seating. There is a good vibe here and there is a lot going on in the area, it feels like you could be in a different country. The food is very fresh and well cooked but the menu is small and predominantly vegetarian with only one chicken option and one fish option. All dishes are mild to medium so you won't get a Jalfrezi, Vindaloo or Naga here if you're in to scorchers!

This place is giving a bad name to Indian food. Starters tasted like straight out of shelf from Asda, chapati was a joke to say the least.. Kerala chicken tasted more like thai chicken that too ready to eat one.. pls do not serve junk in the name of Indian food

I was eager to try this as a Bristol institution but was really let down. The app told me 15 minutes for collection, however it was 35. The Punjabi paneer was deep fried to the point where it had no texture or taste and I couldn’t eat it. The sauce was over powering. The sauce for the Kandan chicken was tasty but I had only three pieces of chicken and the meat itself was bland. The daal was the best dish by a mile. The paratha was really lacking in seasoning. This wasn’t what I was expecting at all.

Friday was the first time we opted for a delivery from the Thali Restaurant. The food was excellent with all heat retained in nifty brown cartons. I could eat it all again... now. And it's 9.30 on Monday morning! Kepp it up guys!

We have eaten Indian food all over the world but have rarely come across a place that serves such healthy wholesome homemade food like the Thali does. I had the veggie thali and the spinach topped dal was awesome, the chicken in the chicken thali was brilliant and the chana masala reminded me of my mum’s cooking. There isn’t anything to complain about the thali, it is the kind of food expert grandmothers make back home, in short it is truly precious.

First collection I've done for a couple of years, due to various lockdowns and our distance. But I got one tonight in my trusty tiffin tins and it was all as delicious as ever. It certainly won't be so long before we're back again :-)

After reading reviews online we decided to take a trip a little out of the main centre of Bristol to visit Thali and the Sweet Mart - we certainly weren't disappointed! After being seated we only waited about 2 minutes before being handed menus but despite this the staff insisted we had Massala Potatoes on the house as an apology.The thali's were amazing and great value in the lunchdeal. The Pineapple & passion fruit cooler was out of this world!

First visit to the famous Thali restaurant in st marks st. Absolutely filled our expectations and our belly. Had popadums and assorted chutneys as a starter. All of them were delicious and packed with flavour. The paneer in the paneer thali was nicely cooked, good caramelization and consistence, strong cardamom flavour on the sauce that I particularly loved. The fish thali sauce was smooth and rich, not sure but guess it was haddock.The only thing I missed was a general higher level of spicy on the recipes, as it's supposed to be traditional Indian food but anyway really enjoyable meal Kind service and affordable prices. Paid 38 pounds for a dinner for two with a craft lager each. Will come back 100%

Today is a sunny and warm day, perfect to start the day with a Thali plate. I have the Goa Fish and my daughters the chicken Curry. Both came in good time; service was very courteous, our waitress Elsie, was charming and able to digest dishes that are compatible with my diet. Everything was very fresh, hot and with the right level of spices plus the refreshing Mango and passion fruit to compliment. If you want to stick to just water that is fine. A jug of water is put on your table as soon as you arrived. For me the perfect way to end is with the vegan mango sorbet. They have outdoor seating and NHS track and trace is used plus other Covid safe measurements.

Love this place. The atmosphere and service is excellent. The menu is great and the only thing I do not like is the tarka dahl which was watery and had very little flavour, a price I am willing to pay as literally Everything else is Fantastic.

¡La mejor comida india que he probado! ¡He estado entusiasmado con este restaurante desde el momento en que regresé después de mi comida de cumpleaños y no puedo esperar a volver! Los "Thail" se refieren a la forma tradicional en que la comida india se sirve con una variedad de platos servidos juntos en un plato. La comida es realmente fresca, nutritiva e increíblemente sabrosa. Teníamos la espinaca Tarka Dahl y el pollo Keralan Nandan que recomiendo encarecidamente, pero estoy seguro de que todos son deliciosos y estoy deseando trabajar en todo el menú.
