This gem is easy to overlook, but don't miss out. We order from Thai Kitchen several times a month and have never been disappointed. Crispy but never greasy tempura. The Green Thai curry is rich and flavourful. The Laarb incinerates hubby's mouth, but he loves it and gets it again every time.

Bit of an unconventional setting in a proper boozer and was empty when we got there, but glad we stayed. Every dish we had was excellent. Very tasty and flavourful, as well as spicy. That hot selection was great but couldn't handle too many dishes. Spicy prawns are highly recommended, as well as the garlic and pepper beef.

Eaten here several times since my last review so thought I'd post a quick update. Everything remains consistently excellent. Food remains exceptional, there's a couple of new menu items that haven't made it to the printed menu yet so ask about those. Flat Cap beer remains outstanding. The bar and restaurant team continue to be brilliant. A recent misunderstanding over a booking time resulted in the Chef leaving home and opening up half an hour earlier than usual so we weren't left waiting. On one occasion, I noticed Chef Pesch having a cuddle of another couple's newborn whilst they ate their meal ( I don't think they imposed a childcare surcharge). Remember that this is a family friendly pub that serves brilliant Thai food and you'll have a great time here.

Visited on a Friday evening and was impressed by the quality of the food. Shared starter was very tasty and the mains were excellent. The only downside is that it is a pub and therefore if you are having a meal you have to accept that on a Friday night the area around the bar is rowdy. Also at 9.00 the Northern Soul disco will start and your table is on the dancefloor!!! Will visit again but will make sure it is earlier to avoid the disco.

From the outside this pub looks like a typical English/Irish pub however once inside you will realise that the cuisine is Thai. The beef noodle soup was terrible as well as the fried rice and garlic bread. Drinks were good but food was terrible. Staff was alright. The pub is vey nice and looks like it's been renovated not long ago.. Unfortunately the Thai cuisine makes it dreadful and a huge no-no.

Came across this pub/restaurant by accident.Half the floor is the pub side and the other side of the bar is a Thai restaurant. As it was only 6pm we were the only people in. The menu is varied but small. The food was reasonable in price. The chicken satay starters was a small portion and not good value at £4.75. The main course of pad thai was reasonable but not outstanding. It's not a place to go out for the evening expecting a gourmet meal but if you are already in the pub side it can be an enjoyable experience.

After reading the really good reviews we decided to go to celebrate our anniversary. We were expecting a separate restaurant area so were disappointed to find we were sat just in the pub. There was a tribute act on that evening so he was setting up so we kept getting really loud bursts of music which meant we could barely have a conversation. It did rather spoil our evening but maybe we should have researched better. Having said that we did enjoy the food.

Was just a little nervous to return here knowing that the very talented chef has temporarily reduced her kitchen duties due to the recent arrival of her baby. However I need not have feared. All plates were returned empty. There was one minor hiccup in that my wife who has a zero tolerance for spice heat, ordered a dish that the current chef spiced up a little. It was promptly replaced by a freshly cooked version that she enjoyed. I say replaced, the "offending" plate was left on our table for me to scoff - I thought it was great. How this place has dropped in the Bolton rankings below even a market stall that has now closed but when open only garnered 23 positive reviews remains a mystery. Top Tip1 - The current chef has not quite got used to western palettes yet, so tone it down a tadge when you order your heat level. (Almost every dish can be custom prepared to any level of heat from zero to ridiculous!) Top Tip2 Don't overlook the soups. The beef noodle soup is incredible!

We ordered a pot of tea to share, in my opinion very expensive, we did not know the price when we ordered as there is no drinks menu on the table. This food is served from the kitchen and the drinks are served from the bar and charged from the bar. The atmosphere was not good as we were the only people in the place when we arrived. Perhaps if they had a lunch menu more people would visit to eat.We were asked had we eaten Thai food before, yes we have and not paid as much, even in the centre of Manchester. As this is still a pub, the prices should reflect the surroundings.

The food was nice but nothing special, the shared starter was disappointing and when you worked out the cost from items on the menu it was not really value for money. We also waited over 30 minutes for our starter. Service was very slow. The main course was tasty, Yellow Curry with mixed seafood although the squid was very rubbery and Chicken and Cashewnut. We were not offered a desert. We had read the reviews so knew we were visiting a pub which doubled as a venue. However I would never visit again on a Friday! The vultures circled our table waiting for us to leave. While trying to eat we had people meeting and greeting each other behind us very off putting. As we stood to go someone was already sat at our table. Also take cash as a premium is added if you want to pay by card!Such a shame as it could all be so nice.

As I love both Thai and spicy food, I thought that this would be an ideal place to come while I was Bolton, especially as it is held in such high regard. Unfortunately I didn't feel that it lived up to expectations and while my main dish was good, the rest of the food was average at best. If you must visit, I recommend doing so an a Tuesday so that you can take advantage of the two curries and rice for £12.50 offer. The menu here is quite small and I imagine that this is due to the fact that the restaurant is set in a pub. As a result, most of the options I would normally choose were missing from the menu, although they did retain the classics. As this is also a pub, there are also a few non-Thai items on the menu such as burgers and omelettes. Unfortunately there aren't any Thai desserts available though and the only options are an ice cream sundae, chocolate fudge cake and (I think) sticky toffee pudding. I ended up selecting the Thai fish cakes to start, followed by the Thai green curry with egg friend rice before finishing with the ice cream sundae. The Thai fish cakes were quite bland and there wasn't much flavour to them at all. The sauce that came with them was really nice though. It tasted quite different from the bottled kind and I suspect that this might have been home-made. There was a nice amount of spice to it without it being too overpowering and both its taste and texture complimented the fish cakes really well. The course also came with a small side salad but there wasn't much of this at all and I was really disappointed with it as well. The salad was below average quality with the lettuce having a strong, bitter taste while the tomatoes had very little flavour at all.The main course was where my experience here was turned on its head as I was really impressed by the curry. It wasn't the tastiest Thai curry that I have ever consumed, but it was definitely the spiciest. I requested that they made their curry spicier than 'Thai hot', which is listed as the spiciest level on the menu, and while it wasn't excessively spicy, it was spicier than I have ever had in any Thai restaurant, which normally don't go very spicy. Despite the spice level, the sauce managed to retain a lot of flavour which I was really impressed by, especially as the 'green' curry was closer to red due to the chillies. The meat used in this, while far from finest, was good for a Thai restaurant with this budget as it was fairly tender and it wasn't the rubbery kind that many Asian restaurants use to decrease expenses. There were a number of vegetables in the curry too all of which found the right consistency, being neither too hard or too soft and all of the ingredients used went really well together.Dessert was definitely the biggest disappointment of the evening, despite the fact that I already went in with low expectations. Unlike the picture, there was only one flavour of ice cream used and it was the white, cheap, tasteless imitation vanilla that you often find in low budget raspberry ripple. The cream on top was also cheap and tasteless. Despite the negatives, the sundae wasn't completely without positives though as both the raspberry and chocolate sauce which were used in it had a nice strong flavour to the them, especially the raspberry one which was really fruity. The service in here was fairly good most of the time as the staff were friendly and they engaged in pleasant conversation with some of the locals during my visit. Unfortunately the service wasn't without flaws as the staff were 15 minutes late to arrive. As the staff remain in the kitchen and nobody is outside checking on tables, there may potentially be problems with service being slow at times, although this wasn't a problem during my visit. On a more positive note, the staff were concerned about my curry not being spicy enough for my liking and offered to give me extra chillies, to put in myself, if I wanted them. The value here is pretty good. When it comes to Thai restaurants, it falls into the budget range as the food isn't very expensive at all. The portion size is also extremely generous as there was over twice as much rice as you get on average, with there being enough to fill an entire plate! The portion size of the curry itself was also above average as many places charge over twice the price for half as much. There is also great value to be found on a Tuesday as they offer two curries and rice for £12.50. Given that one curry with rice isn't much less than this, I feel that this is a fantastic offer. For a Thai restaurant, the place doesn't look very good at all as it is simply a pub and they have put no effort whatsoever into making it look Thai as there isn't even a single piece of Thai decoration inside. The restaurant is somewhat separate from the bar as there are two rooms, with the bar in the middle serving both rooms. I felt that they could have done something to make one side Thai and kept the other as a pub, but then the Thai restaurant side also has a stage where there are performances on Saturdays. For a pub, this place looks alright although, from the side that I saw, the TVs are small and there is a lot of floor space. There being a lot of floor space serves well for the restaurant side of things though as it means that there is plenty of space between the tables and you aren't cramped in.

I decided to give this place a try after hearing great reviews about the food here. Thai food is my favourite by far, and I've travelled to Thailand and fell in love with the tasty street food whilst there. It was good to see a few dishes in the menu that you normally wouldn't see on other Thai restaurant menus. Taste wise they've got it right, the meals we had were full of flavour. The Pad Thai though was greasy and there was an absence of tofu. There was egg in there but it had a strong smell that made it off putting. I wish I could say that mistakes were made because it was busy, but I'm afraid it was early and quiet. We could have been there on an off day, which I hope was the case as so many reviewers rate this place.

First things first, I'm not knocking this place whatsoever, on the whole it was a very nice authentic thai meal without any fancy frills and that's the sort of restaurant I prefer dining in but I personally think it falls slightly short of the mark of the praise its been getting. We first ordered our starters (Thai mixed platter & chicken satay) and they soon arrived promptly after ordering so that was good. The chicken satay I'm glad to report were lovely and we couldn't get enough of them, unfortunately however when the platter which 4 of us intended to share - as we wanted a little taste of everything arrived our faces dropped a little. £12 for a few measly bits of prawn toast, a couple of tiny spring rolls and the most miniscule fishcakes I've ever seen in my life...I thought I had been transported into Lilyputt for a split second! Disappointed with the starters to say the least. The rest of the meal I'm glad to inform was difficult to fault. The Pad Thai I had (which I've never had before so felt obliged to order it) was delicious and the portion size of the main definitely does not reflect what we received with the starter! The other dishes we had such as the Paneng curry had a lovely flavour but thought also it was a bit of a poor show you had to order rice extra with the dish instead of just having it included with your dish which I don't understand for the life of me. As I said I'd definitely encourage you to try this place; just be a bit wary when ordering the starter platter as you may feel a little ripped off with what you end up being served.

MORE AT TripAdvisor

I first visited this restaurant in September 2012 and left a scathing review and only an average rating, but this was due to the setting and layout as opposed to the food, after reading so many positive reviews I decided to try again and sample the food for myself. I decided to return for lunch rather than an evening meal so that the place wouldn't be as full, the food I have to say was amazing, seriously good, an excellent choice of traditional Thai food cooked to perfection, but once again spoiled by the people in the bar next door, so we tried again on a different day, same again, superb food and rowdy people in the opposite bar with football on TV screens in the restaurant. Today we decided to try again, this time the bar was filled with Friday afternoon drinkers who were again both raucus and obnoxious, so we thought we were off to a bad start. On both previous visits the food had been superb but this time it seemed to have got even better, we ordered spring roll starters, my wife for her main tried chicken fried rice and I ordered chicken with cashew nuts. I have to say it's by far the best Thai food I've ever tasted, the layers of flavours were so complex and at the same time subtle and they have to be tasted to be believed, the level of skill and knowledge that is required to cook to that standard is extremely high and way above what's normally expected from a pub menu.Afterwards I chatted with Pesh the owner and chef (who is one of the nicest, most pleasant and professional hosts you could wish for) who was very informative and passionate about her food, she really goes out of her way to provide you with the best and most authentic Thai food you can get, all the ingredients taste fresh and they are balanced to perfection. If it was possible to separate the bar from the restaurant I'd never be out of here, it's such a shame that such excellent food is served in such an inappropriate setting. However you have to see things in the appropriate way to fully appreciate this place, it's not a top notch restaurant in a pub, it's a pub that does top notch food, in fact, some of the best pub food you'll ever have. So if you're unsure about visiting due to the setting, give it a go, try and visit when it's quiet and you definitely will not be disappointed, forget the surroundings and let the friendly staff serve you with some excellent food and you'll no doubt leave as happy as we did, probably planning your next visit like we did too.

If you read back through some recent reviews it's hard to get a proper grasp of this place. But essentially this is a fully operational Bolton pub with one side of the bar area dedicated to the Thai Kitchen restaurant. But this means across the bar in the other half might be people in overalls having a pint after work, an old guy reading the paper, etc. Once you get over the pub-style of the place you'll come to realise the staff are very friendly and helpful, there's a decent menu choice and the food is reasonably priced and very tasty. The sharing starter was excellent and my massamam, which I requested in medium spice, was lovely. My girlfriend had garlic and basil beef stir fry and said this was lovey too. Food wise this place is as good as any. But if you're after a romantic ambience, remember it's a working pub. Car parking space seemed limited to immediately in front of the building (4-5 spaces max else street parking the only option). As we're not pretentious we'll be coming back again.

Well! We has chicken sate and pork spring rolls, ooh delicious. For mains we had Pad Grapouw (??) green thai curry and Pad Khing, all medium strength with side dishes. Oh my, really delicious and quite spicy for medium which suited us fine. All the veg in the dishes were crisp and fresh. The meals were partly served by the asian lady chef, clearly a bone fide oriental cook who knew her stuff. Thoroughly enjoyed it. Not posh, not fancy, no silver service here just really lovely food served by down to earth folk. Will DEFINITELY be returning!

One of the best Thai meals I've ever had on a number of fronts. All freshly made even down to the prawn crackers, flavoursome, interesting, very reasonable and we had excellent service too.We had the sharing platter to start which included spring rolls, chicken on skewers, pork sesame toast and a pork bundle thingy - all were cooked expertly, very tasty and came with 3 interesting dips - a spicy chili, sweet chili and delicious satay. We asked the waiters advice on our mains as we wanted to try things we'd not had before plus needed to understand how hot each category was - the spicing options were very mild, mild, medium, hot and Thai hot!! He got it spot on and was very knowledgeable about the dishes. We had a mild mussaman chicken curry and a medium penang chicken curry, both with steamed rice - both were absolutely delicious, thick, creamy, fragrant and fresh and came with just the right amount of rice to soak up all the lovely sauces. If we didn't live so far away, I would eat here every week!!!

So I lived near the pub for years but never liked the old style pub however, my friend raved about the thai food so me and my friends went to have a takeaway and it was far the best ever takeaway I have had. I had the medium green pork curry with rice and the sharing platter and you get a lot for the price and depending on how busy it is. you will wait upto 30 mins but it was worth it. Not sat in the thai restaurant area but when we come to pick up the food it was lovely. It was actually quiet posh for the pub interior.

Take all the good things that have been said about the food and treble it. The food is served in the concert room of the pub so the decor is hardly fancy, but it is the food that matters. The Thai food is unbelievably good and far more authentic than the westernised preparations of other local Thai restaurants. Preparation is the key and Pech, the Chef, prepares everything fresh from the start, so expect to wait. The wait is well worth it though. We had to wait slightly longer than I would normally be comfortable with as there were 3 largish parties of diners on the night we were there. Even so, with reasonably priced cask ales and the good company of my wife the wait wasn't a problem and, as I said, well worth it. We felt sorry for the waiter who was run off his feet but always friendly and efficient. Pech came out to speak to all guests once she had time asking if the food was ok. As one everyone agreed it was. Just one word of warning, a number of dishes can be served "mild", "medium, "hot" "Thai hot". I chose "hot" and it was really hot. I dread to think what the "Thai hot" would be like. Even so, I could taste all the varied flavours in the dish. This has to be one of the best venues for Thai food in the north west.

This has to be one of THE most bizarre places I have ever eaten. We were a large party and seated on small tables around the edge of a room with another party on a large long table in the centre. The food was mediocre at best. Served from "back stage". This became even more clear when the band arrived and the waitress brought our food through their equipment. If you're after a pub who serve Thai food then you will like this. If you want a Thai restaurant where you don't dress in overalls try somewhere else.

We have only started going 3 months ago after reading reviews about it. I was a bit skeptical about how Thai food or other south east asian food are rated. On our first visit, it was just my husband and i who went. Date night. Went for dinner on a weekday and it wasnt so busy. The gentleman who serves us each time we go is so nice and generally helpful when it comes to choosing a dish. When our food arrived, my husband and i stopped speaking to each other a bit as we were too much into the great food we were having. The mixed platter for the starter is always a good way to have a small portion of each thing without having to pick so many dishes. We ordered curries - lovely! We got served drinks from the pub side and the lady who served us was very nice and accomodating. Our first visit was awesome and we keep going back for more. We have gone with our 4-year old and their children's menu has a few items on their for whatever mood a kid may be in.As for price, i couldn's ask for anything better. Everything in the menu is fairly priced. The most we have spent in there for 3 people (well, 2 and a half) is about £55 and thats us ordering whatever we liked including our drinks.

Latest visit was with a group of lads none of whom had been before. It was 7pm Friday and the place was full. What you have to remember is there's just the two members of staff and everything is made fresh to order so wait times were a little longer than they had been but the quality of the food was exceptional as ever as was the service from both the restaurant and the pub teams. I had a fish red curry which was rich creamy and spicy and won ton soup which was slightly sweet and garlicky with tender meaty won tons and crunchy veg. As for my newbie friends, two of them returned the next day for lunch and one of is planning to bring his entire cricket team after their next match.

The comment that I heard was "if you want the best authentic Thai food, you need to go to the Thai Kitchen!". I absolutely love Thai cuisine so I knew I would have to give it a try.Since then I have been 5 times with different friends and family members and we all love it! The food is so delicious! Everything is made to order and if you fancy eating something on the menu that is hot but don't want it to blow your head off, you can ask the kitchen to make it milder for you. The people that run the restaurant and the bar are so welcoming and accommodating and the food and the service is well worth the visit. I would recomend this restaurant to any of my friends and family. As soon as we have finished one meal we are trying to organise the next time that we can go back.

5 stars for the food. Beautifully cooked thai food. If you like it hot, ask for extra hot. Very friendly, helpful and down to earth staff. 3 stars for venue. If you want a plush restaurant this isn't for you. It's in an average pub with large tv screens and quite a potentially noisy/ rowdy drinking area. The restaurant area is separated from that area but for me, not quite far enough away. We have been to Henighans Thai Kitchen a number of times, and have never been anything but amazed at the quality of food served. It is only a small place, and from the outside looks like your usual suburban pub, so the first visit we were a little apprehensive as to what to expect. Do not let the outside of the pub faze you - this place serves amazing food at fantastic prices by absolutely lovely staff. We always order the sharing platter to start, and then my personal favourite main is the thai red curry - medium spice. All the food is cooked to order so it is fresh, tasty and really well cooked. I honestly can't find a thing to fault it. Will definitely be going back, again and again! Can't wait for their new Mediterranean restaurant to open near where I live!

Was taking my son and partner out for her birthday, they have just moved to Bolton with work. Checked on Trip Advisor and this place cropped up. You would never expect decent Thai food from the outside, It's a typical pub with TV screens, tribute bands and sport. But we had to try it and I'm glad we did.The first good sign was the prawn crackers were cooked fresh with a hotter than average sweet chilli sauce, good start. For the starters 4 of us shared a platter for 2, served with 3 delicious sauces, the satay was wonderful. We were lucky that it was 2 for £10 night on 5 of the curries and rice, both fresh and lovely and full of spice and aroma. Good portions as well.Service was laid back and friendly, drinks orders brought to the table, though it was quiet. Overall as good a Thai meal as I've had, and for less money, It's not posh, so don't go there for your silver wedding, but if you want a fantastic curry for not much, try it

I visited lunchtime to get away from the office for a while. Since I wanted something lighter than a curry, Pesh, (the chef) offered to make me a dish not currently on the menu but one she was planning to add to a revised menu shortly. It was a salad made with a shredded but juicy beef steak, shallots, lime juice, chili, heaps of fresh mint and toasted ground rice. I have to say it was one of the best Thai dishes I have ever had. It was spicy hot, sour from the lime juice, fresh from the mint and savoury from the beef, with great textures from the salad and toasted ground rice. I had it served with a side of steamed rice and It really was delicious. All the flavours of Thailand but much lighter than a coconut based curry dish. It's also worth mentioning that the bar now stocks Singha beer, which normally I would have said is the only lager worth drinking when eating Thai food, (in the same way that Cobra and Chang have an affinity with Indian cuisine) However, nothing beats the bitter they have on draft here, Flat Cap, brewed in the exotic locale of Salford. It's a real strong recommend. So all in all, really first rate food, a bloody excellent beer, The Stranglers, and The Undertones, playing quietly in the background all combined to ensure that my lunch break was somewhat extended (till tea time, one of the benefits of being self employed!) . The new management have brought a slightly calmer daytime atmosphere to the bar I think, it's now much more relaxed than before, quiet music rather than blaring TV. I've heard it still gets pretty lively later on though! 1 main course,1 side, 3 pints of beer - c.£15. Not cheap but fantastic value for the quality of both food and drink and the usual warm welcome from both restaurant and bar staff. I have this place on my doorstep, but I would travel across town to visit. You should too !

We have just returned from a wonderful meal at this gem of a restaurant to celebrate my birthday with my family, including our children, and I can't find fault. We don't live locally to Thai Kitchen but our local Thai restaurant recently closed so my husband consulted Trip Advisor to find the highest rated restaurant in Bolton and top spot was occupied by Thai Kitchen. Without this we wouldn't have known about this restaurant, but having been it is clear why the 5 star reviews keep coming in.The curries were top notch, the children's food was perfect, with the option for them to have Thai or traditional English (this option for adults too), and the friendly and professional service made us feel very welcome.Due to it being a special occasion, I was initially a little surprised when my husband told me about the location of where we would be eating, but was pleasantly surprised when we arrived at the high standard of everything. The venue has regular comedy and music nights, as well as a special curry deal on Tuesday evenings, which we will be taking advantage of. Highly recommended and am very pleased to have found a great Thai restaurant.

Firstly, I am bias as I am a relative of the owners, but saying this I want to give an honest review. Since Hennigans Pub has been under new management the atmosphere has totally changed. As I entered it was noticeable the heating was on! Strange comment to make I hear you say but it certainly makes for a better welcome on a cold winters day/night. Next big change are welcoming bar staff. Previous managers although very nice seemed more interested in the 'other side' of the bar where regular drinkers enjoyed a game of pool and the loud sports channel TV. Now the bar is manned by smart professionals (previously managers of The Red Bridge Tavern Ainsworth). They give their time equally between the regulars and The Thai Kitchen, no need to shout for service!!I enjoy a glass of wine with my meal, there is now a choice. Jack Rabbit red/white was ok but a choice is always good. Another thing to make a note of is the softer music. Nothing worse than Kieser Chiefs shouting There's Going to be a Riot while your'e eating your starter. Although the TV is on in the restaurant, it no longer has sound unless you want to watch something specific. There is always the pub side if you want to cheer on Manchester United, not that I can see any reason why you would!!I know Ben and Pesh have worked hard to give customers an authentic Thai food experience and this is recognised by the Trip Adviser comments but as they are now working hand in hand with the pub side of the business customers can expect even better service not to mention the food which sells its self!!I used to worry about the choice language coming from the pub side of the bar especially when I dined with my grandchildren but this has been addressed and no longer is a concern, adding to the easy, comfortable now more relaxed surroundings.

We came a couple of years ago and really enjoyed it. Please look at my previous review. We came last night with a mrs Rainford ….. she has reviewed before….. however things didn’t go quite as they should. Our starters went ok if a little slow and then we started hearing whispers of problems in the kitchen. We felt that we were falling behind in the pecking order, then one of the waiters came and mentioned a problem but not what. Our mains arrived and on first bite me and Diane noticed our fish was cold so we called over the lady who seemed to be overall in charge and she took our plates away. So we sat back and waited. Our partners finished their dishes and shortly afterward a female waiter came and took away all the plates and dishes, bearing in mind that nobody on the table had had a sweet. About this time I got up and went to the toilet. When I returned I was told that 2 plates of lamb had been brought and taken away because neither of us ate lamb. We hadn’t been asked that question. We weren’t approached afterwards. When Steve went to the till, he was told there was no charge and could they wrap up the sweets. Steve felt it was time to make an exit and just left to meet us at the restaurant entrance. We all know it’s a training kitchen and the staff have to learn but we felt that there needed to be more guidance . We would welcome an explanation. barrym48@btinternet.com 07794195920
