Called in for a last minute Saturday night curry and so glad we did. Amazing food can highly recommend the version starter it was unreal. The service was fantastic our waiter was so friendly and even chose my dish for me. I was struggling to choose from all the dishes on the menu so I took a gamble and let him pick. So glad I did as it was so nice. It was the chicken Naga. Can’t wait to go back and try more.

This is a great restaurant serving high quality, very well presented authentic Indian food. It is one of the largest restaurants I have been in re: floorspace and somehow never feels overcrowded. Waiters are attentive and service time is generally good. There is a courtesy drinks trolley, which comes around at the end of your meal, serving complimentary spirits- something I have never experienced elsewhere. Value for money is good; expect to pay £30-35 a head for a two course meal with drinks and coffee. I keep returning; it is that good.

Lovely food and great service, we haven't been here for a couple of years but the food was amazing and we will definitely be back soon. We were a table of 4 and we all really enjoyed our meal. Service was great, we didn't need to wait for our drinks to be topped up.

This is the third time we have visited this restaurant. Last night was for my husband’s birthday. It was a Monday and Halloween. I booked a table for 7:30pm for 3. The first time we visited the restaurant in August everything went really well. Great food and service. Second visit was a Friday night and the service was poor but again the food was good. I thought I would give it another go as the poor service could just have been a one off!! How wrong I was. Only one other family in the restaurant when we arrived and they soon left leaving us the only people in the whole place you would have thought that this would have resulted in excellent service but it was completely the opposite. The owner treated us like we were a complete inconvenience! Never smiled huffing and puffing at us. There was a young man who rolled his eyes every time we asked for anything. Only one member of staff who smiled and was polite. It was such an awful experience if it wasn’t for the fact that it was my husband’s birthday and that the food was nice I really wanted to leave. We will not be visiting again. If you do not want people to come to your restaurant on a Monday night then please don’t take the booking! I so wish we had gone somewhere else!!! Disappointed and upset that my husband’s birthday meal was spoilt!!!

Booked for 7.30 last Saturday, arrived at 7.20 and was asked to wait, drinks order finally taken after 8 and eventually sat at table after 8.30 finally getting food just after 9. No apologies, we’d booked but they obviously prioritised walk ins or over booked.

We ordered food on the phone to collect and what a great decision that way! Absolutely amazing food, had a great selection of vegan options for my partner. She had a Dupiaza and I had a Bhuna, I would highly recommend both! The service on collection was second to none and the host was excellent. I will certainly be ordering again, it was well worth the 20minutes drive!

My wife and I went to the Thaal Indian Restaurant in Brotherton last night and had a fabulous meal at a very reasonable price. We had poppodoms with pickle tray to start with, followed by the most succulent and tasty seehk kebabs I have ever had. We then had our main course. My wife had chicken tikka masala and I had the chicken palak, served with pilau rice and the lightest fluffiest naan bread ever. Absolutely gorgeous. All washed down with 2 pints of beer each. We were both stuffed full when we had finished and the bill was only £35. Amazing!!Staff are very friendly and welcoming. We will definitely be going back there again.Marvellous.

This used to be such a lovely place that was warm, welcoming and had the personal local touch that regular diners experienced. Tonight my wife and I booked a table for 17:45 and arrived on time. After ordering it was 40 mins before our starter arrived but saw it go to another table to the other diners annoyance and ours. It was another 10 minutes to put it right and then another 35 minutes after we had our starters before we politely asked how long our main was going to be. Finally the mains arrived some 1 hour 30 mins after ordering and the waiter could only say it was taking so long because they were busy but the tables around us see not full but people were in the same situation with how long it was taking. The take away orders were getting priority and the nice pleasant waiters and staff were simply running round like head less chickens with blank faces not knowing what to do. My wife and I always bigged up this restaurant and up until tonight was our go to place. The food is top class but without decent or even acceptable service the whole experience is not very nice. The man in charge did come over to apologise before we left but he offered no discount or further explanation as he hurriedly took our payment as his queue of takeaway per was getting longer. We were planning before tonight of going for Xmas dinner again there this year as it was fantastic but tonight has dimmed our lights and they have lost a loyal customer and what that loyal customer can add with the recommendations we used to give to people (I’m a local taxi driver) but alas now it will not have my stamp of approval. Very sad indeed.

Brilliant meal courtesy of the guys at the Thaal, Everything is fresh, piping hot and made to your exact requirements, the guys cant do enough for you.Sadly, we had to share our night with people choosing to be belligerent and loud on a nearby table who's eventual behaviour ruined a few people's evening, it looks like they had the audacity to complain on Tripadvisor too! Look a little closer to home, which is where you should stay if you can't behave in public.Overall the food and service at the Thall are top notch, they've adapted to the covid restrictions well and it remains a great friendly environment and fantastic fresh food.

We were booked into elsewhere for our anniversary meal, but decided to change location at the last moment. We chose Thaal and were amazed at the quality of all their dishes, served in lovely Covid secure surroundings. We felt safe, relaxed and that we were experiencing food that had been prepared by what must be one of the best chefs we've be served by. It was certainly the best Indian meal I've ever had. Well done Thaal for good food and taking Covid seriously.

We were waiting a long period to be seated after been pre booked, burnt egg in my daughters egg fried rice mixed with other items made it look like a lamb dish, no napkins no chance what are they?,the chicken Madras was no better than a packet curry from ASDA, they tried passing off a bowl of chopped onions as red onion sauce, unfriendly staff with terrible service asked plenty of times if want more drinks but can they hell manage to take a food order ,had high Hope's for this place as came recommend by friends deeply disappointed and certainly not worth the menu at full price. I dont normally write reviews but left telling kids we will call to McDonalds on way home I want to warn others stay clear they are committing a crime against food lovers.

Anyone who is planning one visiting don't bother, we had a table booked for 8:30pm for 6 people yet we did not become seated until 9:00pm at wich point the kids became tired at did not want to order and wait for a meal. we fanily sat down and was asked several times what drinks we wanted to order but was not given the decision to order a meal. Eventually we ordered and was given nothing better than a packet meal from Asda, they clearly ran out of cream and eggs as the creamy chicken dish was cream less and the egg fried rice was filled with random vegetables that looked to have been quickly mixed into the rice, the egg that as actully in the EGG fried rice was burnt. We began to finish the meals at this time we realised that we had no napkins or a substitute of any sort, clearly napkins don't exist in there 'restraunt'. SOME of the above could have been forgiven with the chance that Covid had interfered with the normal was of doing things but there is no excuse for bad service of any sort. Needless to say we were very disappointed with our visit and will not recommending or be visiting again.

On collecting my take-away order I decided to quickly check the bag on my way out... yep, not my order. OK this can happen. Then on getting home with the 'correct' order, we discovered that one of the starters was inedible and the one of the main courses was completely the wrong dish.I called and they said they'd have replacements ready in 10 minutes and that they would also refund. 30 minutes later the relacements were ready. On getting home one of these was again wrong and as for the refund, non-existent.There's a good reason people travel that bit further to the Aagrah.

Attended with friends. The bar area was very cold whilst having pre meal drinks. Food okay not my standard of asian cuisine, basing that on asian restaurants around Bradford, not on the same level as Aagrah etc. The food was average, small portions, sundries expensive, drink was also expensive. The staff were very friendly and polite, overall not my favourite place to eat. Sorry but I was not that impressed

First time visit. Booked a table for 7pm. It was fairly busy on arrival, but we were seated before time, offered drinks and our order taken. Pickle tray, starters and mains ordered. All delicious and spaced out with appropriate timings. Not particularly large portions but plentiful with the three courses. Anything larger would have been too much. It was a lovely relaxed meal without being rushed. Will visit again.

I booked a family birthday meal here (~13 of us), there were warning signs of bad service at the start; Numerous issues to raise with the visit:> We sat for 20 minutes before being asked if we wanted drinks> We had to ask for poppadoms and pickle trays> One drink was missing and we had to ask numerous times for this while waiting for starters, by the time it came, we were all ready to order another round of drinks> We had about 7 different table service people come to our table in the end, each time we had to repeat the drinks we had previously ordered….They obviously didn’t communicate.> The mains took 1 hour after the starter-plates were taken away> We asked for the bill, waited 30 minutes then got-up to pay at the entrance> After complaining and requesting money off the bill, they reduced it from £264 to £250. There was no apology, just a shrug and excuse being “It’s a Saturday we are busy”> Table booking: 6:30pm, leaving time: 9:30pm, actualy eating time: 1hour (~2 hours waiting in total)> The starters were small so was overpriced > The mains and sides were good, top quality taste> As you can read, the service and wait time was dreadfulThis is the first (and hopefully last) Review I have to Post, but I feel I have to Post this to prevent others from the disappointment I have faced tonight. I will never come here again.

Hi all, we were heading out for sunday lunch and passed this place and decided to break tradition and give it a whirl. Anyway the place looked nice inside and the staff were pleasant. My other half order off the set menu for 9.95 and I orded off the main menu. Well when the main cause came my face dropped, the size of my dish was so small it barely covered the bottom of what I think was a soup bowl. Not good when my main cost more than our lasses full meal. Anyway it tasted great to be fare but I felt ripped off. I wont be going back again which is a shame cos it was nice food.

Food was ok but didn’t get much. During the meal a flower seller came over to our table. Not sure how much they actually give to the charity but £2.50 for a plastic rose is a rip off. Just found out this place was even on the map so tried it for my birthday as not too far from my house, the place is finished to a very high standard very large building so I thought we were in for a very nice meal, the problem I have is I’m interested in eating authentic meals not British churned out slop flavoured for the British p*** head, when 4 different curry’s come out the kitchen all the exact same colour you know something isn’t right correct me if I’m wrong should a korahi and a Balti be exactly the same colour? No! The problem with places like this is they use a pre made gravy that they throw in at the end of cooking it makes cooking the curry a 5 minute process instead of 25-30 minutes, and when you ask for a curry Asian style that means you want it with more flavour /spice than your average box standard British Indian! Lamb karahi asian style means u want it hot!!!! It stated on menu this was a medium dish there wasn’t even so much as a pinch of chilli in it apart from the fresh chillis on top that were mild, I won’t be visiting again very poor and small portions too, staff friendly but chef not authentic whatsoever, sorry but crossed off my list!!!!!

Recently visited as we're new to the area and love Indian cuisine. We normally go further afield to a well known chain but decided to give this a try to see how it compares with it being local. Although the food was nice we weren't impressed with the presentation of the food. The chips were just thrown on a plate that was too small same for the rice and the chips looked like microwave chips not restaurant quality. Staff friendly but not attentive. We went not long after it opened on a Saturday and we were the only ones in the whole time we were there. No music or anything so atmosphere felt awkward. Prices were the normal for Indian cuisine but with that is of thought a bit more effort would go into presentation and quality of food.

Not been for a couple of years but saw the advert for the 3 course meal £9.95. Entering restaurant at 7.15pm it felt cold and they sat us next to a radiator that was flat cold but they turned it on. We joked with another couple nearby and sat with our coats on. 3 Course offer was very basic so opted to choose from main menu. Food arrived very quickly and was ok but by the time we ate the main courses served in wide china dishes it was nearly cold (probably due to ambient temperature!). At pay desk we pointed out that the place was cold and manager said "It's a big place to heat:" "correct but not our problem" we tell him and advised to put heat on earlier. His response, "well you were late". Ridiculous response seeing as we had not booked and just turned up! he tells us it will be a lot warmer next time we come but he is dreaming.....won't be going again!!

This was our second visit to Thaal, the first being a couple of years ago. Nice place, well laid out, polite staff - so far so good. No Indian beers on draught which was a shame. Starter excellent Kundan Machli - nice solid pieces of well-spiced fish; I was looking forward to my main, something I'd not seen before called "Murghi Shoshi" (Marinated chicken cooked with paneer in a medium spiced sauce, garnished with onion rings). Sounded good but I like my food to be quite spicy so I asked the waiter if he could spice it up a bit from a 'medium' sauce to something a bit hotter. Sadly it was still very tame when it came. I wasn't looking for a vindaloo but this was very bland considering it was supposed to be hotter than a medium. Shame really as it was a nice concept: chicken and paneer cheese. Sometime trying new dishes is a big disappointment especially when the people you'd expect to know about spicing don't. I know we all have different likes and tolerances when it comes to spicy food but there's no point asking f nothing is done. Be bold...

We always visit Thaal when in that part of the country. It has never disappointed when it comes to excellent food. However, on this occasion, we were a little disappointed with the service. Our visit was let down right at the very end when we asked for the bill. Our dirty plates remained on the table for nearly half an hour, and we were quite simply forgotten about. It took us this long to get somebody's attention. We did get a quick apology, but it's a shame that had to happen. We did still tip, because the food was still good, but there was no thank you for that either. Disappointing.

My husband and I called in here on a recent Sunday evening. The restaurant opened at 4pm, and we arrived at just turned 5pm, and I know it was one of the coldest days of the year and although the heaters on the wall were on and kicking out heat, it did feel quite cold in the restaurant, and on cold days, the restaurant could perhaps do well in putting the heaters on earlier, or invest in some additional heating. That though was the only negative about this restaurant. The Thaal had a very extensive menu choice, and rather than selecting my usual choice of curry, I decided.this was going to be a day to try something new. We shared the Thaal non-vegetarian starter (chicken, lamb chops, fish, and king prawns), and we went for a jug of mango lassi..... all of which was delicious. For the main meal, my husband went for the Handi mix special biriyani (his usual.... coward), with a thaal special naan (potatoes, chicken and onions). I went for the shajani murgh curry with plain rice and a garlic naan. Absolutely delicious. The waiters were attentive without being intrusive, and regularly asked if everything was alright with the food. Overall it was a very nice meal, and would have definitely got 5 stars from me, if the premises had been at a comfortable temperature, but it was just too chilly.

As is now our tradition we booked a table at Thaal, we are regulars and love their food and the service is usually exemplary. This NYE however was so disappointing - we arrived early for our 1900 booking expecting to get a drink in the bar, but were rushed through to a table, it was heaving with some very large, noisy parties. We were rushed through our booking, drinks went missing, food order was incorrect and we were never even offered an opportunity to order dessert but were asked to vacate and have a coffee in the bar area - we agreed, but when we went through there was standing room only due to what seemed like serious overbooking issues and trying to continue a take away service, it was impossible to continue our meal - so we paid and left. In all we were rushed through in 80 minutes and what should have been very enjoyable experience was a most uncomfortable and unenjoyable experience , the staff seemed to be under immense pressure - all very disappointing and we won't be visiting again on NYE!

It has plenty of car parking and is nice inside. The service if great and cannot be faulted. We have been three times because it is local. The food could be tastier especially considering that it isn't that cheap. Been to many better Indians, unlikley to return.

Our 'local' and we're so lucky to have it nearby. As good for a celebration as for a takeaway, good service and very good value.

I went here on a Friday night with a friend. Unless you're a local it's a place you have to drive to. Decorated very nicely and the staff were very attentive. I had fish for starters and main and both dishes were very tasty and the vegetables tasted really fresh. For a Friday night I thought it would be a lot busier seeing as the food is so nice...so lacked a little atmosphere... Shame really as I think it's as good as argrah or similar chain. Two starters and two mains, two large red wines and two Irish coffees for £56. I'll definitely be back but I'll get someone else to do the driving next time!

I called to the thaal with another two couples we are all friends and go out once a month. We decided to try the thaal at Brotherton. The staff were friendly and helpful and the food was cooked beautiful and it was really good. And it didn't break the bank account either. Would definitely go back again for food.

Visited from Cambridgeshire as was staying with my daughter who lives in Aberford. The chicken Ceylon was the nicest I've ever had and I liked the Mushroom Pilau Rice as it wasn't sloppy; not to mention the Bombay Aloo. Was greeted by a very presentable Manager, service was outstanding and received a free liqueur before leaving too.I'd highly recommend this restaurant and am looking forward to going again on my next visit to Yorkshire.

Service and food were absolutely great. Food cooked fresh and piping hot when arrived, glasses never empty if you don't want and the atmosphere was wonderful. Had an over eager waiter but as he was a new one I'm not bothered, he has to learn, but my concerns were greatly received and I'm confident this young man will be steered the right way.

I visited the Thaal last week with my family for my birthday. I have to say the staff were amazing and the food was delicious. It is the best curry i have ever had. The service was excellent. Myself and my family were given a free drink each and i was also given a free bottle of wine. I was not expecting anything for free. It was such a lovely gesture. Thank you Thaal for making my birthday special. I look forward to visiting again.

I come to the Thaal quite a lot, whether it be just me and my boyfriend or as a family of 15 people! Every visit has been faultless, the food is amazing and the service is outstanding. Every member of staff is so friendly and will go above and beyond for each individual customer. I honestly do not have a bad word to say about this restaurant and will continue to visit at every opportunity!

Lovely meal, the room was about half full which was nice at four on a Sunday, lots of families doing the same as us - good value, well made family meal. The three course deal is the one to go for, you basically get a free ice cream and sundry item for the restriction to ten or so main courses. In fairness this is more than enough choice. I'm sure we will be back

Varied and unusual menu. Excellent service. Great Popadoms and pickle tray. Super mixed kebab starter (onion bhaji, seekh & shami). Followed by brilliant duck cooked with ginger, mint and onion flamed with zambuca, plus a Peshawari Baan. Also excellent vegetarian options. Spacious layout, excellent bar area

We have recently become regulars to the Thaal. Obviously the main reason is the food. Favourites are: Paneer Tikka; Tada Jall Machli; Lamb Zafrani; Chicken Bengal (to name a few). It's always fresh & tasty! The other highlight is the staff: they are ALL friendly and have a good knowledge of the food. Service is excellent: even when we turn up without a booking, they'll always find a space for us and ensure we are never left without a drink etc. Well done to Ali & all the team! Keep up the good work!

I came here a week or two agon with my Husband for a meal out - we had the 3 courses for ten pounds on a Wednesday night. The food was good - the deal was a separate menu with limited choice and smaller portion sizes - but food very tasty. The customer service was great and the cleanliness of the restaurant and toilets was very good.

I simply can NOT fault The Thaal and Mr Ali and his team! We've been dining here for 5yrs now and even though we've moved nearly 10 miles away we still make the journey (used to live 3 miles away). We visit a few times a month, special occasions, parties, business meals and even had Christmas Day there last year. I'd also like to point out that we're both Slimming World members and eat out here a lot as it's easy do stay on plan and within Syns as the dishes aren't all swimming in ghee. Don't forget to try out their sister restaurant in Sherburn-in-Elmet (Elmet Kitchen) that only opened on 25th April - family staffs faces, same quality of food and lovely decor.

The 3 course meal for £9.95 option is very hit and miss. My party arrived over the bank holiday and given the main menu to look at whilst ordering drinks, when we asked if we could look at the offer menu, we seemed to be huffed at and the waiter walked away. Returning 5 minutes later advising we could have it, even though there is no information advising this isn't an option on bank holidays and the sign outside still present. In fact a few people left because of it. I found that on this visit the staff were quite rude and seem to be in a rush which is unfortunate as other occasions our experience has been pleasant.

Partner and I visited the other Friday. Lovely atmosphere and plenty to choose from off the menu. Food was really nice and reasonable priced, although there was a little wait between courses as it was really busy, but we didn't mind as the waiters were near by to ask for another drink in between courses. We'll be back again soon.

Really busy quite early on a Tuesday evening. First time in Wakefield on a business trip and the hotel menu is ultra limited. Didn’t really know what would be on the menu and perused the board for five minutes before deciding on the obligatory tikka masala on a meal deal. This came with naan, onion bhaj and a lassi drink. The counter staff were absolutely lovely which is so unexpected if you live darn sarf. Ordered my meal and stood back to wait. As mentioned it was busy but got even busier. At least four police crews turned up randomly for their evening refs, which is a bit of a clue as to the reputation of the establishment, obviously zero crime in Wakefield area! The meal took an age to come out and lots of people who came in after me got their food and left. It is all cooked freshly in an open kitchen. Mine came out in about 20 minutes after I had enquired as to its whereabouts. The food was very good, with a massive portion of bhajis and a very nice fresh bread. Tikka masala was a bit salty but still very tasty. The lassi was yummy tuck. I am back in Wakefield in a couple of weeks and will definitely go back to Abdul’s. Great value and decent quality.
