Abdul's in Wakefield

Called at Abdul's last night while passing. I've been watching YouTube shorts about Abdul's and reading through their online menus. I was really looking forward to a decent, authentic, delicious Indian dinner. I was very disappointed. I asked if they had any mid-week specials, or meal deals? It turned out they did. So I ordered my absolute favourite. Poppadoms with yogurt, and chilli sauce. Chicken Tikka Masala, with Pilau rice, and Garlic Naan bread. I selected the complimentary drink included in the meal deal. A lemonade of an unknown brand. It wasn't in chilled cabinet, but it was a cold night anyway, so I didn't mind. I tried a bit of one Poppadom, bendy! Then the 3 Onion Bhahgies arrived, with another Yoghurt and chilli sauce pot. The weren't freshly cooked, they were deeply re-fried, dry, a bit burnt tasting, although I suspected it was the frying oil which had been overheated at some time. My main course arrived, a metal frying pan, with what looked like blended pink baby food, with small pieces of chicken. It was pinky brown coloured with small pieces of chicken in the sauce. He said my Garlic Naan bread was coming. I waited about another 5 or 6 minutes. But the breads didn't come. So while I waited, I tried some of the Pilau rice with some of the curry, also dipping the last bit of my 1st of 3 onion Bhahgie, into the Curry sauce. It was was nothing like I expected? The Chicken Tikka Masala was like a waxy mousse texture, and cold. No individual pieces of onion, tomatoes or fresh chillis were visible, or evident to the pallet once I tasted it. Very disappointed, is an understatement. If that was the very best possible example of a National British Classic Indian dish, I'll not bother calling in at Abdul's ever again.

Love Abdul's food however if you look on line the price's are much lower than when you go to the place they inform you that them prices are old prices and need updating, ( needed updating 2 years ago ) now to top it off a massive 15% price increase, think will be giving it a miss in future

Just got home after collecting my food. Ordered boti kebab and they haven’t put any sauce in with it. 40 minute round trip to go back. Very dry and not at all nice. Shame as I normally enjoy it here

Absolutely shocked for the wrong reasons! Been to Abduls over the years beautiful dishes!!! Last night we went for 5pm food was cold! Ruined the meal!! Paid good money for the meals and wasn't happy! Place was packed but not a very good dish lastnight!

The worst, blandest curry I have ever had. Chicken Jalfrezi...more like a cheap Tesco Butter chicken...Raw uncooked chili placed in sauce, don't know why as it wasn't spicy (Advertised as HOT) Nam bread, not fresh. Better of for this standard of curry going to Asda or Tesco !!

This used to be my favourite place to grab a curry. It’s not as good as it used to be. The food is always like warm and the volume of meat in your dish is minimal. It tastes fantastic but is not longer great value for money like it used to be.

Ordered Tandoor Masala with chips/rice/naan. After waiting over 35 minutes I just walked out. You can't hear the staff when your orders ready above all the noise and music. Shame because I was looking forward to a 'Adul's.

We ordered chicken karachi and chicken donner on nan. Chicken karachi was totally rubbish no taste at all and chicken donner was very dry like rubber and too much red food colour and taste like so bitter. Nan and roties were nice no complain

Amazing food & great customer service I went there with a few friends close to the closing time and the staff were kind enough to let us eat in 20 mins past the closing time. the food was fresh & hot , the naan was one of the best I’ve had. 10/10 would recommend to anyone

Please bring orange rice back to the menu! This is what made you outstanding and made my family order again and again from you. I'm extremely disappointed that you don't serve orange rice anymore. I hope you'll bring it back.

Ordered a korma was very bland didn't taste creamy or anything like a korma tasted like store bought sauce

I went with my friends there was a guy called DK he had a attitude and had no sense to talk to customers tables and chair dirty asked the staff nobody bothered and the staff ruined the reputation of a good owner I wouldn’t bother wasting your time here

I ordered a large kebab! Only to be told it's 1 size.. i also ordered an extra Garlic nann & Chips ( normally just cooked ) I proceeded to get the couple of bowls of salad! To be met with a sign saying salad £1.50..... Which was always free.. When served my food i asked for 3 chilli 🌶️ sauce the young lady fave me 2.. After 25 minutes of of waiting i got my order.. I live less than 1 mile from the take away! 1 The Kebab was cold 2 The Nann was Cold 3 The Garlic Nann was cold 4 The Chips for me were reheats! For me never agsin!!!

We have always loved food from here and thought was good value for money however prices recently have gone up which would be fine as i know they have everywhere. But the portion sizes and decreased you get half the amount of chips than we used to. I have been in tonight and found that now you have to pay 1.50 for a small tub from the salad bar. We usually only get one thing so 1.50 is extortionate. Will give this a miss for a while now as its not worth the money anymore

Very disappointed. Treat night spoilt always select the same starter and main dish .. this was definitely not what I ordered or previously have been served!!! Not a masala or chicken pakora dish by any means .. sadly will not be returning .. has this been taken over ??

My favourite Indian takeaway, I strongly recommend you try the chicken achari masala with pilau rice it melts in your mouth. The fries are among the best you can get from any takeaway, not to mention the award winning mango lassie. Yes, I do personally know abdul and have known him since he was a little boy. You couldn't wish to meet a nicer genuine guy and boy can he cook.

I haven't been to Abduls for a while after the prices shot up and the portions got smaller. Thought we'd give it another go. Hardly any sauce with both the curry's and the chicken was very dry and hard to eat. Won't be going again.

The only place I’d travel for food in this area. Amazing food every time.

Food is next level. I live in Manchester, but every time i travel to Castleford, i have to get a tikka masala from here. Staff are super on it. Great price too!

Ordered a jalfrezi. Not really sure where to start. A jalfrezi does not come in a cream sauce. By the definition it is made with onions, peppers and tomatoes, none of which were present. No coriander? What? Why? As a stand alone dish it wasn't horrible but it was as close to a jalfrezi as carrots are to sausages. Seriously, it was poor. There are a million reference points on how to make good curry. I suggest going back to school. It's worth pointing out that I'm a skilled curry cook so I'm not saying this without being able to back it up.

Ordered two curry’s with rice to sit in £25 to then be served it in a hot pan and told no plates you chuck the rice in pan and eat it :/ absolutely horrible experience will never visit again, felt so awkward just left the food and walked out

Always used abduls for a curry, however last time and tonight's chicken korma & masala dishes were really poor. Hardly any taste, chicken dry and extremely salty. Not the same as it used to be.

Best Indian restaurant in Pontefract. The Achari Korma was perfect and the garlic naan was the best I’ve ever had!

Order from here when we fancy Indian and it never fails. Pashawari naan is amazing, and we always get chicken jalfrazi and chicken achari. The achari is my one of my favourite meals to eat ever! It’s so tasty and I wish I didn’t get full so I could eat more of it!

Wow, absolutely amazing!!! 1st time we've been & they completely accommodated our tastes (1 hates spices, 1 likes medium & 1 likes hot!). Completely got it perfectly in 2 meals!! Customer service is 2nd to none. We will definitely be coming back

Been in tonight and asked for something not on the menu… Bombay chicken curry (usually Bombay fish curry). Was absolutely amazing. This needs to be on the menu!!

No matter what you order all tastes the same in a turmeric base. Would like to meet Abdul and take me through this supposedly fine cuisine? and why it went wrong for me. The food was in no comparison with a supermarket takeaway. Can see this place closing unless a certain chief steps in to revive it. Such a shame!

We have purchased takeaways from Abduls’s twice per month since the day it opened. The food is always hot, tasty and freshly cooked however over the past few months the prices have significantly increased and the portions have reduced in size.

Started with horrible service, to which they said they had re-cooked the food. They didn't and after returning to them for the first time since their Curries took a dip during covid, its safe to safe that's the last time I order from here. Cold, tasteless and just embarrassing.

Mixed meat only had chicken in and it’s looks horrible

food was shocking portion sizes would have left a small child still hungry. tasteless curry chicken was dry chips was soggy kebab was like rubber. WILL NOT BE ORDERING AGAIN would leave minus 5 stars if it would allow you to.

Wish I could give a ziro star , first time ordering from here in 5 yrs last time it was awful so stayed away but thought would give it a go seen as it's been years and our regular Indian is closed, well wish I had not bothered it was awful, chicken tikka was so salty you couldnt taste anything else other than salt , the chicken karma defo didnt taste like coconut , very bland, the mint sauce was just plain yogurt no taste at all other than plain yogurt, the rice was mushy , the garlic narn had lumps of garlic so was very strong garlic taste when u bit a peace of it , and the poppadoms where very greasy and small like they had not risen or cooked properly defo never coming here again will wait till our regular Indian opens , partner said worst meal they have ever had most of it in bin , only part of meal any good was chips but all they have to do with them is fry from frozen

Ordered over £70 worth of takeaway, missing items and all cold, much better takeaways for cheaper in Pontefract. Don’t waste your money!

Standards are slipping this used to be a great Indian however for some time standards have slipped I did put it down to the pandemic and thought things would improve but like other reviewers have said you are regularly missing items you’ve paid for and you only realise when your home the naans used to be cooked fresh in front of you and now I suspect they are pre-made and heated up I have seen this happen with certain curry’s there’s a lot more food been prepared by chef mic(rowave) which is disappointing as I wouldn’t expect this from such a generally fantastic restaurant

Had a tandoori massala it was really creamy and didn't taste like a massala at all it had a really weird tangy taste too it was sickly didn't eat it only good thing about that meal was garlic nann

Haven’t used this place for over a year due to not receiving everything that we ordered, so thought we’d give it another go. Need we have worried? Oh yes we should! This was a non stop Mardi Gras of bland tastelessness which bore more than a striking resemblance to baby food. The food was cold & the breads overcooked. Somebody please acquaint these people with the meaning of the word “flavour”. The whole meal was bland & plainer than a Bulgarian pin up girl. We shall not be returning. Good people of Pontefract; if you have any sense, you’ll avoid this place like the plague.

Asked for a Chicken damask got yet again children korma with pineapple in. Not good enough when I am allergic to cream NEVER go there again. Was sick again after a couple of mouth full .They need to give you what you ask for

I ordered punjabi mix vegetables. What I actually received was a creamy dish containing only potato and one floret of soggy cauliflower. The dish was described as medium? This was so bland it could quite easily been blended up and fed to a baby. Chapati and rice was good though.

Really disappointed with this establishment .We placed a order today to be collected ordered two medium dishes chicken dopiaza and chicken rogan josh received two very creamy dishes bland and tasteless ! To be honest not worth the money we paid tasted like out of a jar .Never again .Avoid ! Worst Indian takeaway in Pontefract in my opinion !

I have used the take away many time the food has always been excellent this particular evening I phoned my order in the told me 20 minutes i got to the shop there was only me and a chap behind me waiting to be served we were stood there for around 5 minutes when another chap came in he looked like he was in a hurry he suddenly shouted to the chef in there language the chef responded and started to get his order ready he then paid for his order then left me and the other chap just stood there looking at each other I spoke to the staff and asked why he jumped the queue there reason was he was in a hurry I was fuming. I WILL NEVER USE THIS PLACE AGAIN THERE IS A QUEUE SYSTEM FOR A REASON.

The food here is very decent, maybe not Michelin star but certainly well above the average, and the staff are pleasant and keep the place gleaming clean. Where this place really shines though is the decency and quality of service, which keeps me coming back time after time. i was new to Pontefract, tired and careworn and staring hungry after a nightmare road journey, late at night every single foot outlet in Ponte told me they were closed or had cashed up. So did Abdul's - but then the owner came up and asked me what I was after (I said 'just anything you got that's hot'). He threw me together an amazing mix of marinated meat and told me to help myself to salad from the things they were preparing to shut down. It tasted excellent, juicy and tender, and I went away a grateful and happy man. Then I came back the next few night for some first-rate chicken and prawn baltis. Again, the food is very good - but the cleanliness and extra personal touch of the staff is outstanding. Abduls you have won me over, the past cynic of Eastern and Indian food, over forever - thank you!

I'm not normally an advocate of Eastern and Indian food, nor do I wax lyrical over kebabs but these people seriously have it locked down. Lovely marinaded meats and dishes, the chicken and prawn baltis are first-rate - there's a lamb dish I forgot the name of but the taste is etched on my mind forever. These lovely people always go the extra mile to please, and where they really shine is the service.- the staff are first rate

The mixed kebab on naan is a family favourite but it does seem to be hit and miss. The mango lassi, also a family favourite, was really runny. I thought it was supposed to be like a slushie? I maybe wrong. I constantly ask for a menu when I order and constantly forget to remind them when I get there. The menu is online but I do prefer to physically have one. 1 star removed for the hit and miss food. Well worth trying if you haven't already.

I really like abduls but... I feel let down as I have to have chicken tikka with a sauce they don't do it dry, which sometimes I like, I don't always want the sauce if I'm having it with salad.. Sorry abduls

Great service great food first time I ever been but I'd go back. Only issue was there drinks are not cold. On the plus side the kind lass serving went and got one of her personal drinks out of the freezer which she had put in for herself. Even though that was frozen 🤣...... went to a shop and got our own took them back with no complaints.

Great curries with great flavours. Balti is recommended. Would be full five stars if the naan breads were not so tough

Best food in the area without a doubt

Usually get a mixed meal special,or various currys. Had a mixed kebab,was ok,but recommend a curry. Been to all their takeaways. Clean and good choices,and safe etc re covid. Decent prices,usual going rates.

Ordered a chicken doner kebab & chips, mate ordered lamb doner kebab & chips, & OMG they we're very generous with their portions.! Nice restaurant layout too! Quite unique, I've never experienced it before. Good food too!

Ordered chicken bhuna and a chicken korma neither had any taste the bhuna wasn't spicy in any way or hot it was also watery. The korma had no taste at all you couldn't taste any coconut and it was also very watery. I'll never go there again absolutely horrible

The staff were still cleaning tables when we got there, they weren't clean. Some staff members were standing doing nothing, they all were wearing masks on their chin and some didn't have any on at all. The food wasn't up to scratch and I found a hair in my meal. Overall it wasn't a good experience!

Normally a great curry but wish they would take more time when packing the orders. Gave me the wrong curry tonight and I didn’t realise until I got home 8 miles away. Absolutely gutted!!

Just my opinion but I think the food has gone downhill

Just had a lovely meal , will definitely be going back, good food and the staff are friendly, thankyou for the NHS discount
