We stayed here at The Temple Bar Inn when we visited Oldfield Forge. The Temple Bar Inn is ideally situated to Oldfield, only a 16 minute drive away, which was one reason why we stayed here. We were not disappointed. Our stay at Temple Bar Inn was lovely. The staff, were friendly and showed us to our bright, clean and modern room with tea and coffee making facilities. There was also a TV and yes, WIFI. Our evening meal was delicious and the full English breakfast got you started for the day. No cheap sausage here and if you like black pudding, you got a slab! I certainly recommend staying here.

Came for a Sunday roast and while the service was quick it was £18.50 for luke warm food and beef that was mostly gristle. No opportunity to say anything as we weren't asked how the food was at any stage. We hadn't been asked if we wanted dessert and the bill was brought over when they collected our plates. It was all very odd and disappointing considering the reviews. TLDR - not worth £18.50 for a luke warm low quality roast dinner

The bar and restaurant were also lovely, we didn’t try the food as we had dinner booked else where but did had a few drinks at the bar before and after and had a great time with the locals who we’re all super friendly and welcoming. The stand out for us was the staff and service we received though, Gino in particular was fantastic and went above and beyond to make our stay perfect. Decent fry up for breakfast in the morning too! We booked to go here as part of an activity weekend away for a stag party. We preordered an evening meal. The food was prepared and served in really good time and was ok for pub food. More care could have been taken with some of the food (chips a bit undercooked and steak a bit overcooked etc), but it was perfectly fine after a busy day of activities. Whilst I appreciate we were a ‘stag party’ of 15 can set people eyes rolling and perhaps make people a bit apprehensive as a group we were well behaved and sober. This biggest and probably only indicator that we were a stag group was the stag was carrying his inflatable future wife dressed as a pink power ranger. The pub is lovely, the people less so. On arrival it was like the scene from American Werewolf when they walk into the locals only boozer. A drunk older man at the bar stood there glaring us up and down, a group of three very young looking males next to him began to talk about about us and behave in a weird passive aggressive manner. Sadly after a couple of decades as a police officer I developed the knack of spotting trouble makers and these ‘boys’ appeared upset that we were on their turf. The bar staff and possibly the landlady weren’t much better. When asked if we wanted to order drinks before we went through to the dining area I replied ‘can we take a seat first’ mainly because I wanted to see what drinks were on offer. I received no response and they just asked another one of our group the same question. When seated opposite a possible family they started staring and talking about us. It was really strange. They were saying things like ‘oh look there’s 15 of them’, ‘look at him’. On returning to the bar I was served by who I think may be the landlady. At the end of the transaction I said thank you very much only to get a blank stare and she turned and walked away. A couple of our group went outside to vape and came quickly back stating we shouldn’t talk to the locals. Afterwards I was told that the group of three at the bar had become a larger group and were acting in the same way again. We ate and left. Whilst this may all seem quite trivial and the establishment may come back with ‘a reason’ or ‘version of events’ I wanted to let future travellers and the owners know and reflect on this. Myself and many of the group are well travelled and rarely experience a reception like this. We were made by locals and staff to feel unwelcome and as if we had no right being there. Please take this on board and learn.

Too many pubs claim to be 'gastro' when the reality is drab battered brown stuff. Well, not here in Ewyas Harold! Really super quality food, surprisingly good, cooked to perfection, and served with a genuine smile. We chose The Temple Bar Inn for its proximity to walking country (15 minutes to the Black Mountains), but we'd come straight back tomorrow for the cooking. Dino is an excellent host and his chef is the real deal. Get in before the Hay-on-Wye crowd discover it - and book a room while you're at it! A proper gem.

We stayed for two nights in one of the four rooms available at The Temple Bar Inn. The rooms were very comfortable, modern, and clean. They had a TV, Coffee Machine, and fan, and the bathroom had a good shower. We ate in the restaurant both nights, and the food was excellent and reasonably priced. The local lamb was a highlight. The atmosphere in the bar on Friday and Saturday nights was very good, and that added to our stay. The owner was very welcoming, and his friendly approach helped us with anything we wanted to know about our day's plans. Breakfast was also very good. The EV charging in the car park came in very handy.

Friendly village pub with a superb restaurant. Booked Sunday lunch for the family. There was a warm and welcoming atmosphere and a pleasant busy buzz about the place. Lunch was a most generous meal with a wonderful range of vegetables as well as the beautifully cooked pork and beef. We managed to clear our plates, but only just! In my opinion the red cabbage and 'Nonnas' peas were the stars of the veg show. All served with courtesy and and attention to detail. Highly recommend a visit!

A fabulous gem of a place in the little village of Ewyas Harold! The owner Gino, could not have been more welcoming when we arrived, and all the staff are amazing! The rooms are small but beautifully appointed, spotlessly clean and comfortable. The beds are really comfortable, and the room was quiet even with the window open! Food in the restaurant was amazing, breakfast was fantastic, the poached eggs were spot on. The chef could not be more accommodating to my wife’s fussy needs and everything arrived perfect! The area is amazing, with a lovely little traditional pub next door (The Dog Inn) with a fantastic landlady (Elaine). We had stayed in the Kilpeck prior to our stay in the Temple Bar with Gino, which was extremely disappointing considering the review we had read. I know we will be choosing the Temple Bar every time we visit Hereford in the future! Thank you guys for making it such a lovely stay! Paul and June Bellinger (Barry, South Wakes)

Really welcoming village pub. Arrived in the middle of the England/Wales 6 nations match but staff still managed to be attentive and nothing was too much trouble. While the bar was buzzing, there was plenty of space in the restaurant. Beer superbly kept, food great (best sticky toffee pud I've ever had) and room comfy. Brought our friends from out of town to have a nice country lunch. We received 3 out of 4 meals, with the 4th meal not arriving until the other 3 were already half way through. The 4th meal wasn’t even warm. There was no apology for the late food. We weren’t checked on to see if the food was ok, when the plates were cleared we weren’t asked if everything was ok, and when the bill was brought over it was “how are we paying for this?”. Such a shame because it’s a lovely pub in a great village, but the service today was just not up to scratch & certainly not reflected in the cost of the food.

I last drank in this village pub 39 years ago, having then moved from the area. As we were visiting we thought we would call in to see how it had changed. It was a fantastic idea. We decided to have the lunchtime special and certainly weren't disappointed. The pub was very well managed, in these times of coronavirus. The staff were extremely pleasant and the whole experience was thoroughly enjoyable. The choice of beers is more than sufficient for the average pub goer. Although we visited on a"specials" lunchtime there is quite an extensive menu which I'm sure would meet most tastes. Now that I have revisited I shall make a point of calling back again to sample the other menu choices and for a bit of nostalgia. Well done to the management and staff.

We came for Sunday lunch today as a treat for my birthday and sadly have been really disappointed. We have heard so many good things about this pub and the food so had been really looking forward to coming to try it out. Just before we came we had heard it changed hands but were hoping it would still be up to the same standard. Well sadly it was not.I had Brie wedges to start which were lovely and my partner had the black pudding starter which was fine. We both had beef for mains and when it came out it looked over cooked, no pink at all and over a third of it was just fat. The veg followed on a separate board and looked a bit sad, cabbage and purple sprouting was overcooked, peas in an overpowering tomato and garlic sauce, and cauliflower cheese but with only a small blob of sauce placed on the top. We plated up our veg and by the time we started tucking in it was all lukewarm. The roast potatoes were lovely and we ate the meat that wasn’t just pure fat but that was it. There was also a piece of string on my plate which I understand the beef is wrapped in but shouldn’t have really been on my plate. When the waitress came over to clear us, she remarked that my partner hadn’t cleared his plate and that it must be because he’s full. I said actually it was all quite cold, the meat was fatty and there was a piece of string on my plate. She said well the rest tasted ok didn't it? To which we said yes, and she said well the food goes cold because of these plates and the string is just off the beef. No apology at all which was a real shame because I’m not one to cause a fuss or ask for special treatment but I felt we at least deserved a sorry. No discount was offered either. We didn’t stay for pudding as we had been so disappointed by the food so far. We definitely won’t be returning again and would not recommend this pub for Sunday lunch. One to avoid.

This pub also does bar meals in the early evening, but we opted for their restaurant menu. A shared starter of salted squid was perfectly cooked and came with a delicious freshly made dip. Monkfish tail curry and confit of lamb shoulder were both perfectly cooked and flavoured. The quince crumble was appropriately tart which highlighted the sweetness of the almonds in the topping and the lemon posset was topped with a summer fruit compote. The chef should be commended for her balances of flavours and very well executed cookery. Lovely service too.

Dined here on a Thursday night, needed to book on advance. The restaurant is not too big, so the service was really good. Our waitress was lovely, really friendly. Although the menu is limited there was a vegetarian and fish option. We had a crab and a chicken terrine to start, lovely. For my main I had the ribeye steak, my wife had Torbay sole. Only complaint was that the sole was difficult to identify the bones! Not a fan of triple cooked chips, can sometimes be too crispy! Desserts were lovely, we both had rice pudding, amazing! Price of meal including a glass of wine each and sparkling water- £76. Good value I think.

Great atmosphere, great little place with top quality food and staff. The menu is not extensive but covers all bases for all, including vegetarians and coeliacs. Everything is locally sourced where possible and the food is prepared to order.

Since I last put a review for the Temple Bar in January 2016 we have visited several more times, always for lunch on Sunday, and with different people each time unless it was just our nuclear family. It has been consistently, impressively good. As a non meat eater I am often torn between the fish and the vegetarian option. Review based on most recent visit.

Nice place to meet up with friends with an open fire and a cosy atmosphere, locals with pet dogs sitting in sofas and then another small area with a big tv screen on the wall. There is a only one small bar and an adjacent open plan room to the pool table with original stone floor. Loos are nicely done and newly refurbished. Home made food is nice just got a bit fed up wafting away fruit flies the entire time my only hangup. WiFi is available too. Small garden with 3 or 4 tables on a grassed area and a smoking shelter at the side of the pub.

6 of us had a meal here last Saturday night. Whilst the restaurant was quiet, about 4 tables occupied while we were there, the bar was full. The service and food we had was lovely. There is only a small menu as the blackboard explains, but we would rather have a fresh home cooked food menu than an extensive obviously microwaved one. There was something that appealed to all of our party. The food was well cooked and filling, sadly leaving no room for puds. However we did manage the chocolate truffles brought out, even though we didn’t order coffee. The lady waiting on told us a bit about the area, and good places to visit.

A friend decided to treat me to a meal in the Hereford village of Ewyas Harold at the local pub. The lunchtime menu is light meals/snacks priding themselves on using locally, produced, seasonal produce, freshly prepared to order. I had the sandwich of the day, tuna melt with a side order of homemade chips. Delicious! My friend had the smoked salmon & scrambled egg on half a toasted muffin , which she thoroughly enjoyed. The meal was in the pleasant, slightly more formal, restaurant but could have eaten in the less formal bar, both rooms were welcoming and relaxing. The service was friendly and efficient and we shared an unusual and scrummy, dessert of quince parfait made from the owner's own fruit orchard. As an impromptu stop we had a lovely, relaxed meal in pleasant surroundings and it was very reasonably priced.

Called in with friends for a light lunch. Soup was really good as were the desserts. Reasonable choice of beers.

We came to the Temple Bar for lunch on a Saturday, after a brisk walk to whet the appetite, and we weren't disappointed.

We were four for Sunday lunch where hitherto we have enjoyed good food and friendly service. We have taken a number of friends there in recent times. My wife and I ordered a leek terrine and goats cheese starter, intrigued to see what it would be like. What arrived was an inch high stack of leeks arranged Stonehenge style with a slice of cheese on top, torched and some dots of jus around the edge of the plate with a few small leaves. If the presentation was uninspiring, the taste was almost non existent except for the cheese. My wife ate the cheese and left the rest but I rejected the dish and asked for something else. Another member of staff then came to the table and said that they had never had a complaint about the dish before and that it was a Michel Roux Jnr. recipe. I said I was surprised on grounds of presentation alone. When the bill arrived I had been charged for the two leek dishes and my alternative. I said that I had not expected to pay for my dish I was told that they do not give refunds "just because someone doesn't like the food" I said I was not happy about paying and the poor member of staff was left floundering between me and the kitchen. Nobody in authority came to talk to me. Eventually, a deduction was made from the bill but I noticed afterwards that it wasn't for the full price of the dish. I subsequently looked up the recipe and, as I had suspected, they had served a pale imitation of the real thing with some ingredients missing altogether and a different presentation. I sent an Email to the proprietor and received a very bland response but acknowledging that they had served their variation of the recipe. I was particularly disappointed that they were prepared to treat a regular customer in this offhand fashion. For a good example of how to handle a complaint about food, see my review of Twr Y Felin.

We are blessed to have this fantastic pub/restaurant/b&b on our doorstep. Superb food, lovely welcoming staff, dog-friendly, great value for money and excellent ales. It ticks all the boxes and more. PS, the salted caramel ice cream is to die for! 😉

As a cider fan this place ticked all the boxes. They had a great selection of local ciders and ales. The staff where also great and helpful. I really loved the historic and originality of the building.

The bookshop includes, on its menu, a review from the Guardian that it is the 'best UK Sunday Lunch' which could well be true, but doesn't do justice to just how good the food is, or to the amazing customer service levels delivered. A special mention for Jake for looking after our table and ensuring that our party was happy with everything.

We were staying on the Malvern View Country and Leisure Park for a weekend stay which we could not fault. However, we dined at The Old Barnhouse on the Saturday evening and unfortunately the food was terrible. We waited for nearly an hour and when the food arrived it was half cold. My mother and father had scampi and chips, no peas and they were out of tartare sauce! My sister and I had the New Yorker chicken which consisted of a huge portion of coleslaw that wasn’t very nice and the chicken was small and if poor quality. My daughter had a kids pizza, chips and beans which was just about acceptable. The five meals and a round of drinks came to over £80 which was appalling for the quality of the food. Avoid The Old Barnhouse for food! Pleasant enough for a drink.
