Tempest Inn in Brighton and Hove

We were on a culinary tour of restaurants and pubs in Brighton. Both chefs with 30 years experience in food and beverage. We chose this place because it’s on the beach and our hotel was just across the road. We had to experience many places so had only one dish we went to in each place. On arrival the lady behind the bar couldn’t care less if we were there or not. Not even a hello. Looking at the staff, they seem to be chosen by looks rather than their customer service skills. We ordered the whitebait to share and 2 beers. One was a mango IPA which we had never heard of. It doesn’t taste of mango that’s for sure. We then went to sit at the table near the beach which was pleasant. The whitebait arrived promptly. Stuffed into a paper pouch and soon as we tipped it on the plate it was limp and soggy. It should be crispy. The jalapeño mayo was tasteless. Not a hint of spice. We wondered if it was just mayo? Also served with a tiny piece of dried out lime with no juice. Really poor.

Lovely place and lovely staff! Lovely food and quick service! Would definitely recommend and go again It's also on the beach at a perfect location

I had that most amazing experience at Tempest last night! The new look is so classy, the staff are friendly and the food was amazing, we have held business events at many venues in and around Brighton and Tempest is our new favorite spot.

Amazing beach bar- seafood was incredible too. Partied all night long to the outside DJ. Would strongly recommend a visit

It's just sad, because the location is good. But to have beer served in a plastic glass is just awful. I do understand it's practical for the staff, but beer changes taste when it's drinken from plastic.

I was here for an all day business meeting in the first floor meeting room with panoramic views of the sea, what a fantastic space! The room is modern and airy, we were lucky enough to have the balcony windows open on a sunny day. The IT kit all worked seamlessly, and the pre-ordered lunch was delicious. I would not hesitate to book again next time I need a meeting room in Brighton, hard to think of a better spot.

I have just spend the last day and a half at the Tempest with 9 of my colleagues taking the opportunity to use the 1st floor function room. I have nothing but praise for the team at the Tempest who managed our requirements from coffee and pastries on arrival both mornings to the pre-order lunch varying from Quality burger, fish & chips and tacos whilst catering for gluten free and vegetarian requirements. The meeting room was fitted with large screen tv for presentations whilst the view from the window onto the sea front was excellent.

Came here for New Year’s Eve and loved it! Fun music, lovely people and staff - love this atmosphere

Me and some friends were looking for somewhere to go for NYE, we’d been here a lot over the summer so thought we’d grab some tickets which were really cheap compared to most places! So glad we did. Had a great night, staff were really welcoming and friendly, drinks were fairly priced for Brighton, and the vibe was awesome. Really fun and two rooms of music to choose from, was good music all night long. Definitely one to check if you are after a few drinks or a big night.

On 4 September 2023, at 11:13am, I used my debit card at this bar. I was the only customer, the first because the bar had just opened. My card details were fraudulently copied at that moment (skimming). Later that day, four transactions/payments were made in Brighton from my bank account using "contactless" technology, including twice at... the Tempest bar (around 6pm). I noticed these four uses (thefts) the next day. On the 4 septembre, I stayed less than a hour on the terrace of the , then I left and never came back. Total of the thefts : £190 + card blocking and replacement fee of £50. Be careful

What a wonderful bar by the beach. Went out with a few friends on a Sunday afternoon along the Brighton seafront and this bar was our first stop and didn’t leave, music was great and had some tasty local beers. Staff were very friendly and was the perfect place to have a few drinks in the sun. Would strongly recommend

One of my favourite spots in Brighton- right by the sea you can’t beat it!! 🌊 I’ll bring my family here for some delicious food, local beers and aperol spritz’s or come down on a weekend night with friends for a boogie listening to some incredible dj’s! What a place!! The location is right on the seafront, great views and even better sunsets. I spent an afternoon sipping on Frozen Margaritas and eating Buffalo chicken legs while listening to some local DJs play some really good quality house and disco edits...tbh I didn't want to leave but my pal had other places for us to see. Would highly recommend if you fancy a good spot to pass the time from Lunch till Sunset and further on...Staff were super attentive too. A great place!! Thankyou Tempest

Had an amazing time at the Tempest last weekend!!! The atmosphere was incredible and the staff were lovely. We had some chilled drinks on the terrace and enjoyed a lovely sea view!!! We were going to go on to another place for a night out but we loved it so much we stayed all night!!! A great place on Brighton beach front

We waited 1 hour and 45 minutes for food. Friend is coeliac and so ordered the ‘low gluten’ option. When it finally arrived, it wasn’t low gluten at all. He had an adverse reaction and had to leave immediately. Kitchen staff didn’t know what gluten was when asked. A terrible visit which has made friend very ill.

I had the worst night of my entire life at this bar, I had gone with friends, we had bought tickets, I was wearing heels and it is incredibly difficult to negotiate heels on the cobbles on the sea front , the staff accused me of being drunk and we’re going to refuse me entrance, after I had a completely coherent conversation with them they let me in,After gaining entry I was appalled and astounded that other clisntle were openly taking drugs in this establishment so I left, seriously, get your act together or more preferably SHUT ITDOWN , I left 10 minutes after I arrived as I was so horrified and I explained my reasons to the security, they were not bothered at all , horrible experience horrible evening, horrible place, I think it should have its licence revoked and be shut down

We ordered the sharing platter, which consisted of chicken wings & chicken tenders, with three portions of fries. The chicken had been over cooked to the point the batter was solid and was pretty tasteless. Wasn’t any south fried or flavouring considering the colour it came out. My daughter couldn’t eat the chicken without me peeling the batter off as it was to hard for her. The chips had a little bit of seasoning but that was sprinkled on after so was powdery in our mouths. Would I eat there again… probably as it’s a great location and lively but would go for a burger or something else.

Don’t be fooled by pictures of lovely seafood and various dishes ... they have a limited menu which consists of chicken chicken and chicken. The music inside the pub is one track on continuous repeat ... disappointing given the recommendations to visit. Toilets are dirty, not checked regularly and some don’t even have door locks.

Atmosphere is great. Sat outside on one of possibly the hottest weekends in July. It was for a stage. Table service was very easy abs quick

My partner and I share our birthday and reserved a cave at the tempest inn a month in advance to ensure we got the cave. When we arrived got our booking, we were seated in another table/area and we’re told that our cave booking had been given away to a larger group. Even though I explained that the reason I booked a month in advance was to ensure we got the cave, it made no difference, the girl who seated us was not concerned with what I was saying. The table we did get given was crap, we couldn’t even access signal so we could place our drinks.Overall massively disappointing experience, one of which, I won’t repeat by returning to this poorly run bar. Shame as this used to be my favourite spot in Brighton.

Came for dinner and a few drinks on Saturday night and had a great time, our server Becca was so friendly and showed us how to use the app to order, service was really fast too! If you’re looking for a fun place to have a drink along the seafront then this is the place!

My friends and I pre- booked this sweet looking bar. Unfortunately the staff were rude on arrival for no reason at all. We were told to order through the QR code, however there was no signal and the WiFi didn’t work. We tried standing outside to order abs still no luck, so I asked one of the staff (there was about 5 of them behind the bar) who then proceeded to tell me to stand outside. Which o explained we’d already tried. They very reluctantly sent someone over to take our order (this particular waitress was actually pleasant). On the next round, my partner went up to the bar to ask for someone to come over as the app wasn’t working. The man was so rude and told him to go outside, which my partner tried to explain was useless and we needed to order from the staff. He got sent away! We quickly left and it ruined the evening. Fortunately another bar 2 minutes up the road was open and they were brilliant. Such a shame! Don’t come here if you want a nice evening.

Came here today, lovely place, such good food and the staff were extremely attentive and helpful. Will definitely be back soon to enjoy more drinks at this establishment. Best bar on the beach in Brighton by far! Thank you guys!!

Visited this bar twice during my weekend in Brighton. The second evening spoiled it completely. As a group of lads perhaps they thought we wouldn't notice, but to serve tonic with NO gin and orange with NO vodka is not funny. It was mentioned to a lady who seemed to be in charge and promised to look into it. She never did. Disgusting to be so blatantly ripped off... assuming we wouldn't notice I expect. Well tough. We did notice and I will be contacting trading standards to let them know if this deception. Avoid or be VERY careful that you get what you pay for.

Came here yesterday for lunch and a drink and had such an amazing time. The food was so yum! Great vibe and staff were great even when they were so busy. We got served mostly by Rebecca and she was super friendly and attentive. Would 100% recommend!

I’m not one to normally write reviews but we went for drinks and food at the tempest inn Friday night and wow what a great place! The food is exceptional and the staff where friendly and attentive, we went for our first night out since the pandemic slightly nervous and cautious but we needn’t have worried all staff where wearing masks and taking every measure possible to follow COVID guidelines to a really high standard. Well done tempest inn we will definitely be returning!

Had a great time, it was very busy but the staff all kept smiling and being helpful, especially Sophie and Lebby.

Wow, honestly what an amazing place! Couldn’t of asked for any more. The staff are amazing, so polite, friendly and welcoming, plus all wearing face masks which is very refreshing, also tables spread out nicely for social distancing which makes you feel extra safe. The food is incredible, I genuinely would of licked the plate if my wife had let me lol. As for the place itself, well my words won’t do it justice, seriously just go see for yourself!

Met up with friends in Brighton and found the tempest by accident, but I'm soo pleased we did. We were greeted by a friendly host wearing a face mask who seated us. Immediately we were offered bottled water and told about track and trace and ordering through the app. Probably because of ages the host made sure that we were able to do this, offering to help. She was attentive throughout our visit and the service and indeed the food was first class. Social distancing was very much in place and we felt totally safe at the tempest. We thoroughly recommend a visit to this hidden gem and we will definitely return again and again.

We sat outside for food and the staff were so friendly. All adhering to covid safety measures we felt very safe. The food was phenomenal!! Highly recommend! Really unique stylish bar great experience all round! Everything was made with passion an care even the drinks!

Will definately be going here regularly now I am a Brighton resident, staff were so friendly, food and drink tasted amazing! The restaurant was very well socially distanced and we was made to feel safe with all staff wearing masks at all times. Definately recommend to anyone visiting!

Whenever I am in Brighton I make a point of popping in here. The food, music, atmosphere are all fantastic and it's down the the wonderful staff. Can't recommend highly enough. Can't wait for my next visit to Brighton and The Tempesy Inn.

What a wonderful seafront bar. Came down with a few friends for a few after work drinks and had the best night. Staff were all really friendly and very helpful. Ordered drinks through the app and they came within minutes of ordering. Will definitely be back very soon. Thank you :-)

Stumbled across this seaside bar whilst on an evening out with the housemates! Food was amazing, service was amazing... everything amazing!! Ended up getting lost in the caves for hours ;) lovely vibe, we will deffo be coming back here soon!

Honestly over the moon with our afternoon here! The sun was out on the terrace and the staff were all so friendly. We also ate here and the wings were banging. Highly recommend if you’re wanting drinks and food! We will definitely be back. Thank you tempest xx

We went to the tempest to celebrate a friends 30th recently and it was the perfect venue. Great drinks, delicious food and friendly staff! All ordering is done through an app too which is super efficient. Couldn’t reccomend it highly enough 🤩

Booked a table here for a friends birthday and had the best time! Such a good location being able to watch the sunset on the beach, tasty fried chicken and the music was so good! Also loved the little cave booths on the inside, we'd never seen that anywhere before!

I was visiting for the weekend from London, I have been to Brighton before and love a lot of the bars in the laines, but have never thought much of the seaside fare. Little did I know, this beautiful gem of a bar sat tucked away waiting for me to uncover. The inside is very funky, it looks like the kind of cave you'd dream of being shipwrecked in. And we definitely got ship "wrecked" this weekend hahahaSeriously though, best pub I've been to in a long time, great food, staff were friendly and the vibe was definitely waaay above what you'd expect from a seaside venue. A true MUST SEE!

None of the staff were wearing masks which is quite extraordinary in the current climate. Given the worst table despite it being a special occasion (which I specifically stated in my booking) and there being plenty of much better tables available. Poor service, no atmosphere - avoid! Not one of the 4 unmasked staff at the bar when we left said a thing to us / acknowledged us when we left - they were too busy chatting amongst themselves.

Booked a table. When we arrived we were given a outside one. The food was average covered in sauce couldn't actually taste the meat.. We asked to move tables and they wouldn’t let us despite there being lotssssss of empty unreserved tables. They offered no cutlery! we had to go to the kitchen to get them ourselves.. Awful experience. the place looks nothing like the photos online at all, very run down place and staff are the rudest people I have ever come across in visiting lots of restaurants and bars. Shame the staff couldn’t see these things for themselves.

This was easily the worst experience at a restaurant I have ever had...* Not a single member of staff wore a facemask* We finished our food in 30 minutes but when we left after finishing our drinks our plates had still not been cleared dispite staff having walked past our table on numerous occassions* No member of staff ever checked the food was ok* The atmosphere is dead upstairs, speakers not playing music, just really poor* On leaving we walked past 4 members of staff, not one even showed any recognition of us, didn't ask how the meal was or wish us a good night, literally ignored us.The food was tasty, but it's a tiny menu and I would expect with 6 choices you would do them well.Overall it was absolute garbage and if I owned this restaurant I would be embarrassed.

Lovely staff, food is soooo tasty, but not much verity. Accommodates very well for veggies and vegans. Great atmosphere but wouldn’t recommend the ground floor indoor tables if you’re claustrophobic!

So just wanted a quick drink and watch the sunset. Do queued for a drink and then was told it was table service which is fine but if your going to offer table service try serving your customers. Sat on a table for 30 minutes and not a single waiter came over guess my money wasn’t good enough for you. Shame on you poor service

After reading all of the reviews we thought it would be amazing but from the get go the bouncers were rude, the waiter who served us was accusing and rude and didn’t seem to know anything about the products he was serving. He wasn’t very welcoming and we didn’t feel we could ask him any questions, after reading this was one of the best places to go in Brighton we definitely didn’t experience this.

Visited the tempest last saturday for their bottomless brunch. The bacon pancakes were beautiful (fab combo with the poached egg!). Service was absolutely amazing which really really made our day! The waitress was called Rebecca and was so lovely and attentive even though she seemed to be manning many tables at a time. Drinks were constantly being replenished with very minimal waiting times which is really all you want from bottomless brunch!! Will definitely be visiting again as it was a lot of fun!!!

Really enjoyed my evening in this place the best out the best 5/5 keep it up guys. Owen gave me the best customer service I had so far respect for that.

Inicialmente tenía mis reservas sobre la reserva de este lugar ya que las críticas eran tan variadas que hice un montón de tareas decidí reservar de todos modos, qué gran error fue para mí y para mi amigo y fue nuestra primera noche en Brighton, estamos en un alto y tan emocionado con sus pocos días de distancia que habíamos reservado en línea para una mesa a las 7, tenía mi reserva, hicimos cola y la camarera nos ofreció un interior o un exterior que elegimos afuera y nos dio un menú ya que teníamos una reserva para 7. 00 pm para la comida después de unos 15 minutos una vez que tomamos una bebida, decidimos pedir del menú mientras miramos el menú, la camarera decidió venir y sacarlos de nuestra mesa sin ninguna explicación, y nos marchamos rápidamente, nos quedamos sin palabras , Entré y dije si podíamos pedir algo de comida ahora, pero la camarera dijo que no parecía sorprendida y dijo que quería pedir después de mostrarnos nuestros asientos 45 minutos antes. ! ! ! Ella me informó que "no estaban haciendo comida, el chef se ha ido a casa, no servimos comida después de las 7", sabiendo muy bien que por eso habíamos hecho la reserva para una comida.Fue completamente extraño que naturalmente no estuviéramos contentos con el servicio y ella nos gritó "oh, vamos, no seas así" cuando nos fuimos. Como si fuera culpa nuestra.Terminamos yendo al próximo restaurante frente a la playa y fue encantador, no podrían ser más útiles.Sé que son tiempos desafiantes para todos, pero creo que deben trabajar más duro para mantener la lealtad de los clientes y atraer nuevos clientes, de lo contrario, el negocio simplemente desaparecerá. picada y sartén. Definitivamente no recomendaría este lugar, lo siento, no suelo dejar malas críticas, pero fue la experiencia más extraña de mi vida.

En este tramo hay multitud de bares y restaurantes para elegir. Necesitábamos un lugar para sentarnos y comer algo, no estaba ocupado con muchos bancos disponibles afuera en la playa. Pedí el calamar, las papas fritas katsu y el po de calamar, cada uno prometió mucho, pero la realidad fue una decepción. Por lo que obtienes, no es una buena relación calidad-precio, agradezco que pagues una prima por estar junto al mar, pero caminando puedes hacerlo mucho mejor en otros lugares, así que elige sabiamente. No volvería a comer aquí.

Estuve en Brighton durante 3 días y encontré este bar y restaurante frente al mar el día 2. Y pasé mucho tiempo aquí. Está perfectamente ubicado. Los precios eran razonables y el personal super amable. En general, una gran vibra en el bar exterior. Es como Ibiza en el Reino Unido. Asiento de sol. Playa. Cervezas Luna iluminando el océano. Me quedaría en este deporte perfecto todos los días. Jajaja Es genial. No comí comida. Solo bebidas

Intentamos comer aquí a las 6:30 pero para entonces la mayoría del menú no estaba disponible ya que se habían quedado sin casi todo. Sería agradable estar afuera solo para tomar una copa, pero aparte de eso, no puedo decir que la comida también sea buena porque no está disponible para comer. El personal nos habló como si fuéramos idiotas, pero yo solo quería una hamburguesa con los chicos.

Fuimos para el brunch sin fondo, tuve la suerte de sentarnos afuera y el clima fue genial. ! Fueron muy generosos con porciones y repartiendo botellas de prosecco. Tuve el mejor momento! Se lo recomendaría a cualquiera. Soy vegano y también tenían un buen desayuno vegano. Nos fuimos muy felices y bastante borrachos.

Estábamos en Brighton para la media maratón y elegimos el Tempest Inn porque no estaba lejos de la línea de meta y también muy cerca de nuestro hotel. Fuimos allí a almorzar, pero dudo que volvamos a ir, hay muchos otros lugares para elegir en Brighton. La comida no era terrible (comimos casi todo en nuestros platos) y el servicio estaba bien, pero tampoco era lo suficientemente bueno como para tentarnos de nuevo. Tal vez fue el terrible clima lo que había afectado al personal ese día, pero no puedo decir que estuvieran particularmente entusiasmados. Un poco de un squib húmedo realmente.

Tuvimos un hermoso día en Brighton, antes de irnos pensamos aprovechar al máximo el sol tardío y comer algo. No he estado en este bar / restaurante antes, pero como está en el paseo marítimo, pensamos en probarlo.Ambos tuvimos pescado y patatas fritas que sonaba bien, pero nos quedamos muy decepcionados.Cuando llegó, era de color naranja muy oscuro y grasiento. Cuando lo cortamos, tenía una capa amarilla brillante entre el pescado y la masa. Dejó un regusto y simplemente no era bueno para comer.Notamos que una pareja también lo tenía y lo llevaron de vuelta al interior. Decidimos no comerlo y también lo devolvimos, la señora se disculpó y nos devolvió el dinero, fue muy comprensiva y dijo que le diría a la cocina. No estoy seguro de cómo es la otra comida, pero para nosotros fue una decepción.

Spent NYE at the tempest inn after spotting the Berlin night event online. The music was great, the crowd was really varied, but best of all the staff absolutely made our night after we had lost the key to our Airbnb at the venue. Different members of staff helped us look multiple times during the night and at the very end when we had lost hope the staff brought it to us! It meant so much to us. Great team!!

¡Celebramos nuestra recepción de boda en Tempest y nos organizaron el día más increíble!Desde las etapas iniciales de planificación, Matt fue realmente útil, siempre capaz de responder nuestras preguntas y su actitud fría y complaciente significaba que nunca nos sentimos estresados por nada de eso, ya que sabíamos que todo se resolvería.En el día, Matt, Pete y el equipo no pudieron hacer lo suficiente por nosotros. Desde configurar el lugar hasta asegurarse de que todo funcionó sin problemas, el día transcurrió tal como lo habíamos planeado. ¡Pudimos tener el día relajado que queríamos y simplemente divertirnos! La comida era increíble y el lugar parecía increíble.Muchas gracias por un día inolvidable chicos!

Looking for pre-dinner drinks we went back here, not knowing that on a Saturday evening they only have the front bar open and serve you in plastic containers. Added to that the construction site and rowdy drinking crowd we headed indoors where the friendly barman (earned a bonus star) tried to sort us out with glasses for cocktails, but to no avail. Moved on disappointed but found The Walus pub around the corner (highly recommended!), so thankful for the push to find somewhere new.

we had three ok burgers, and wine and cider sitting on the promenade. The chips had been cooked in dirty oil and speckled with black bits. £46 all-in. Just about Okay

Booked three weeks in advance for a table of 9. When we arrived we were given two completely separate tables out the back by the kitchen. The food was average and half the orders took much longer than others to come out. We asked to move tables and they wouldn’t let us despite there being lots of empty unreserved tables. They offered no cutlery or sauces we had to go to the kitchen to get them ourselves. The toilets had no toilet paper and the hand dryers didn’t work. All in all a very below average experience. Shame the staff couldn’t see these things for themselves.

Female bouncer was so rude and bang out of order, ruined our night. Never been spoken to that badly all because of the awful fact...... that we were in a group, we travelled from all over the country to meet for my girlfriends birthday and she not only ruined the night but spoke to us more rudely than I have ever been spoken to. Not only let down but I couldn’t recommend more to avoid this venue as the staff are frankly horrible.

Visited the Tempest Inn with friends on a Saturday afternoon. Excellent choice of drinks, great atmosphere and service. Definitely one of the best places on the Brighton beach front

what a great place this is! fab surroundings and Becky let us decorate the upstairs bar to convert it into an 80s spectacular! the staff were happy to wear our t'shirts and we went on until 2am

Optamos por un brunch sin fondo para un grupo de mujeres en una gallina. Nos dieron una cálida bienvenida y nos encantó la distribución del bar. El personal no podía hacer lo suficiente para asegurarse de que también estuviéramos contentos, pero también tenía un sentimiento muy relajado. Comimos nuestro brunch dentro y luego nos sentamos afuera para continuar con las bebidas y el personal siempre estaba dispuesto a rellenar nuestras bebidas. Defo lo recomiendo aquí como un lugar para ir. Gracias por cuidarnos.

Was walking along the front, heard the reggae and had to get a drink and sit down, was just a lovely chilled out atmosphere.

£8 for two Pepsi drinks. The sullen Millennial behind the bar found it too much trouble to begin serving with her labored approach to the whole process. Cliché beach trip hop.

Fantastic setting and interior caves, the bireakfast wasn’t the best but the amount of alcohol made up for this. Thanks guys

1st trip to Brighton, stopped on sea front due to a rain shower, great selection of ales, decided to have food while the rain passed, had the landlubber burger, best burger we have ever had, not a lot of choice of the menu tho, maybe add a few more dishes, on the whole tho great pub, bigger inside than it looks from outside, staff quick to serve and very attentive

Great staff great location amazing food and service good for all kind of partying from stag/hen doos, birthdays ,weddings,+more so come give it a bash and have a fab time

Popped in here mid afternoon on a Saturday for a drink. Interesting intricate cave style interior. But it needs either a freshen up or get some locals to properly graffiti the interior. Bar staff need to cheer up and pay attention.

The Tempest inn, where to begin? As I sit here on the beach enjoy a pint I think one of the most notable things to start with is the fantastic service; gentle, fun, and enthusiastic with passion to spare, seeing how they joke around behind the bar making every single customer feel at home and relaxed.

Love the tempest. Staff are lovely. Right by the sea, love alcohol, love the benches and umbrellas. Will be back. Class atmosphere and ultimate craic!

Go to tempest whenever in Brighton. service great and lovely looking over the sea and will definitely be back. Shame the amazing mac and cheese no longer on the menu though.

My partner and I escaped the cold by coming in here for a swift pint. What we found when we entered was a brilliant interior made up of mini caves. We didn’t have anything to eat and admittedly we did come at a quiet time but we cannot fault the service or the atmosphere of the place. Very chilled environment with great music.

Never had a Bottomless Brunch before, and what an amazing brunch it was! I am gluten intolerant and they catered for me. The breakfast was a full English and was lovely. You could chose from Mimosas or Bloody Mary’s for your endless drinks for two hours. The Mimosas were lovely! Great Staff and Great Food! Whenever myself and my partner come to Brighton we always come here again and again.! Can’t wait to come back in the summer.
