Had a really lovely fish and chips here. Very reasonably priced as well!

My rating is for what it is a very nice casual fish and chip shop great service and helpful cooking delicious gluten free fish, not battered but deep fried, crunchy outside nice inside not dry. If looking for casual gf this is your place

The delicious batter and the very fresh fish. Very attentive and fast service.

We ate fish and chips, the fish was lukewarm and the fries were limp and unsalted, to compensate for this a whole plate of ketchup was served. You could only pay in cash and not with a card.

Really tasty food. I had scampi and chips. Others had cod and chips. Chips had a lovely crisp edge to them. Batter nice and light. Not soggy. Staff friendly and efficient. Can dine in, or take away.

Friendly service and they were very kind to a homeless guy.

Absolutely terrible! Overpriced and undercooked! The pie crust was soggy and raw and yet somehow also burnt! The chips were also abysmal. The service was unbelievably rude. He got annoyed that I took more than 30 seconds to choose something...even more annoyed when I asked for a drink after he had prematurely rung up the payment and then for some reason even more annoyed when HE brought the wrong drink over. I should have just walked out at that point and I would have been spared the awful food. I threw the food away...was inedible... I went and had falafel around the corner at lavash instead which was delicious. Avoid this place like the plague. Save ur money and ur appetite for something else.

food isn't good..It looks like an sympathic and ancient shop....but food is really bad. It's really not normal.Long time ago, in the 60's, this shop was probably a référence. Today, in 2024, this shop is a bad référence. Don't go at this adress. Else good luck.

Avoid this adress ! Re-heat fries and the same for fish. No lemon, no pepper, butter served hot and oily... A very very bad souvenir of Brighton to bring back to France.

Fish tasted frozen, batter tasted like the oil just celebrated its 4th birthday. The vinegar had the potency of mustard gasss. I’d rather have eaten the seagull on the table and use the seawater as vinegar to get a slightly authentic taste of the sea. Oil definitely tasted old. Chips probably the worst I’ve ever had. Atmosphere excellent though 👌🏻

My husband and daughter came in today 29/8 with our little dogs we ordered our food and as the ready and being served at the table outside upon paying by Apple Pay the payment were declined twice without no other method of paying as we didn’t bring our wallet. The kind owner given us the rest of our food without hesitation for us to come back pay for our meal. Thank you for your kindness the food we had was delicious the service was outstanding. Highly recommend Fish and Chips Ship street we’ll be back

Mi esposo e hija vinieron hoy 29/8 con nuestros perritos pedimos nuestra comida y como los listos y que nos sirvieran en la mesa de afuera al pagar por Apple Pay el pago se rechazó dos veces sin ningún otro método de pago ya que no trajimos nuestra cartera. El amable propietario nos dio el resto de nuestra comida sin dudar en volver a pagar por nuestra comida. Gracias por su amabilidad la comida que tuvimos fue deliciosa el servicio fue excepcional. Afortunadamente, encontramos la Regencia más adelante en la esquina de la Plaza Regencia. Qué diferencia, sin comparación. Hermoso pescado con papas fritas. Had a pickled egg, wholly & chips and good banter with the staff. Scored low on the atmosphere as I was wet and cold, no fault of theirs.

I had a disappointing at this fish& chips shop in Brighton.One of posse were very rude and we ended up leaving without a meal.It was a very upsetting experience for my family.The waiter was extremely aggressive and tried to start a fight in front of my family, and he could hardly speak English.When we asked him to clean the table and bring us some cutlery, he threw the cutlery on the table. The owner returned our money without saying anything. I wouldn't recommend this restaurant for families.

We visited this store today. We ordered chips. Firstly, the chips were luke-warm, and not worth the money. However, the most disappointing part of our visit was the owner/manager, who in front of a shop full of customers thought it was appropriate to scream and shout at his staff for making a mistake (one of them being a young female, the other employee an older man). We felt it was so aggressive, that we said to him there was no need to speak to his staff in that manner. He then became aggressive with us, started getting close, shouting and pointing his finger. The photo says it all. The other customers outside were outraged by his reaction. Another customer commented that the manager/owner had poured water all over the floor where her bag was placed. Four customers said they did not enjoy their food, and his attitude was appalling. I really can’t support businesses who do not show respect to their staff, as well as customers.

Perfectly crispy batter on the fish and great chips. Only ordered a fish but got a handful chips too, such lovely staff, prefect late evening meal.

Not busy, unsurprisingly, fish pre-cooked and stored in a rack to keep warm, so batter not crispy. Chips as soggy as wet socks. Definitely not what you expect at the seaside. Totally Rubbish.

The worst fish and chips in the UK. The fries were half cooked and worse. When I informed the chef, he said they were fresh that's why it is half cooked. I usually don't review any restaurant even if it is not good. But this restaurant is abysmal. After having here I would have rather stayed hungry. Don't get fooled by it as a traditional restaurant, maybe that's why their chips were soggy.

The place was dirty so we decided to get fish and chips take away. The 🐟 was really tasty but the 🍟 were terrible - oily and soggy. It wasn't worth the price at all (£28/2 portions) 😖

I probably shouldn't have visited post dental anesthetic as my tongue was numbed but the food looked good, the seat by the window gave me an excellent view of the world padding by and a July mist on the sea. I'll call again once the crown is firmly in it's place. Recommended and do try the mushy peas.

The fish had been precooked and it was very oily, virtually inedible...mostly oily batter and very thin portion of fish. The chips looked terrible and we decided not to have them ( the server argued with us that he didn't think you could get well cooked chips in the UK)...they were soggy and tired looking as they had been sitting in the warmer. Would not recommend.

AVOID I ordered large cod n chips as stated on board, charged £13.95 As l sat n waited, menu said sit in was £13.95 As l saw the fish asked if large, he said its all the same size, though on board offered regular. Food was nice BUT spoilt buy the size of fish. Where l live in Kent, large cod is large and much cheaper. I would have taken it back but have to meet my son at Uni of Sussex.

We Wisit the place yesterday. food was terrible! Chips were very greasy. The test of the repeatedly used oil was still felt for a long time. Service was terrible! Not even napkins! Dirty place! Will never go there again.

I dined in with my parents when outside was super windy! When other fish & chips shops were closed early, this place was open and staffs were very friendly and nice. It took a little bit of time as I could tell they were frying the fish & chips freshly. Not greasy at all, cod was super good! Would come back again⭐️⭐️⭐️

a small restaurant with a funeral atmosphere that could easily be cleaner. The food arrived already cooled and the fries were nice and soft with the aftertaste of old, banished oil. The fish was about as tasteless as the fries, and surprisingly so was the oily tasting vinegar. The scampi with a slightly expired taste were probably bought frozen from Sainsbury's. All in all a tourist trap as you can shell out the hefty price of £14 for a cold tasteless meal seasoned with conservative oil and served by traditional Englishmen. (the staff could hardly speak English)

Decent chippy here. I initially went here after buying some frozen rubbish from a few doors down, I gave it away as I wanted proper fish n chips. Chips were good, fish was fresh and chunky and I had mushy peas which was nice too. I actually returned the following lunchtime for chips and curry sauce, it was good quality again.

We took a group of schoolchildren here for lunch. Excellent service and very kind to all our students who paid one at a time in cash!! Great food, lovely setting, nice sea breeze.

Very delicious fish and chips restaurant. Even the fish skin wasn't fishy and it was delicious. Be sure to sprinkle vinegar and salt on it. It wasn't too salty and it was delicious.

Astonishing somewhere this bad can still trade. Sort of gives me hope that everything in my life is gonna be okay, given they can be so bad at doing what they’re doing and still keep the lights on. Chips cooked from frozen, curry sauce that tasted like nothing I’ve had before (in a bad way), and staff who have the hostility and faux apathy of a French waiter, but none of the charm. Avoid. Don’t do it to yourself. You’re better than this.

The saveloys were cold. The chicken nuggets were chewy and overcooked. The chips were Not freshly cooked.

Probably one of the worst chippies I've ever been to in a long time, to be honest! Anaemic chips, mediocre fish, the sausages had an odd taste to them, and the curry sauce was more like curry-flavoured water. How often does the oil get changed in the fryer? But for what it's worth, the interior looked pretty clean and well lit and the service was quick and friendly enough.

A horrible experience. Tasteless, overpriced. Seagulls and pigeons flying over the food. Staff don't give any sauce, not even a napkin. When you ask, they give you a bad look and a single sachet of cheap brand ketchup. If you want heinz, it's 50p.

It was expensive, soggy, and not fresh. Yes, your order is ready in 5 mins. But be prepared for soggy chips, too fishy fish. We order 2 fish and chips and 2 battered sausages for £31.50!!!! Sausages were okay. The only reason it's not 1 star is the saving grace of curry sauce. Go to one of the other 20 fish and chop stores in the area because this one is BAD.

The mushy peas were cold and they couldn't keep track of simple orders. Embarrassingly poor service.

Not often we eat fish and chips on the premises but poring with rain. We each had cod which was perfect, light batter with a definite crunch, lovely white fish and the skin left on which we prefer. We also got a saveloy which was tasty along with chips that were standard chip shop chips - nice but nothing startling. Staff were really friendly so all in all a good experience

I regret eating there!! My fish and chips were cold and stale, I realized after that they'd been sitting there for hours getting stale. The fries were completely soggy and stale, same with the fish. Awful experience, don't spend money there!

We went in this chip shop in 2023 and the food was dry and cold also they charged us more than the menu price so we had to challenge this … we went down there again last night and had 2 portions of chip and 1 bread and butter each and the chip were dry as can be the bread was hard and yet again they charged us more than the menu price which I think is a total rip off .. I will be avoiding this place at all cost and would recommend others do the same … there are better fish &chip places along the front .

Rip-off and sub standard food. You'd assume given the local competition it would force standards up across the board, wrong!! We called in later than we'd hoped and as the weather had just turned we unfortunately popped in here as it was the first chip shop we passed. We were served two scabby plates, small portions, yesterdays sausages, all for £17.90. Our advice would be to avoid this one.

I bought a bag of chips that was overly greasy, with signs of old frying oil and filled with tiny, hard potato bits. I strongly advise against buying them—it’s a waste of money and potentially harmful to your health.

Thought I'd share my experience while it's still 'fresh' in my mind. The word fresh and this fish 'n chip shop are so far apart from each other you could fit planet earth between them and still have space for the moon! I bought 2 battered sausage & chips for £8.95 was very dry overall. Quite a small portion of chips which were mostly made up of leftover bits you get at the bottom of the tray. Other people I was with their food was just as bad (pie & chips, fish & chips). We only went there because it's in a convenient place but if you walk a few mins there are cheaper eateries which the food is 10x better!

Whilst visiting Brighton we were staying in the hotel next to this Fish and Chip Shop. We visited around 8pm and ordered chips and a battered sausage x 2 and a curry sauce. It came to £20 which I thought was expensive, but given the area you can understand. The guy who served us was nice and gave us extra sausage and some mushy peas. However, the food was absolutely awful, it was greasy! It looked like old food and tasted like it. The sausages where hard to eat, they where so dry and anemic, I couldn’t eat it and we threw it away and left. By far the worst chips I have ever had! This place has a 5 star rating but it was dirty, we sat at a table and the floors were greasy to walk in and the walls hadn’t seen a cloth in a long time. The floor was also dirty from people coming in, but it was clear it hasn’t seen a mop in awhile. My advice would be to go anywhere but here.

Was in Brighton for a Christmas party and on my way home i walked along the seafront and came across the most magnificent old school fish and chip shop. Cooked to perfection and price was what i expected and the staff were so charming even though they were so busy. If you do visit Brighton you can’t not go home without visiting this fish and chip shop.

We ordered 5 fish & chips and 1 scampi and chips. All oily, not crispy! Scampi has water and oil coming inside, sorry but not the best! Theres also a feeling that staff rushing us as new customers coming in.

Only went here as the other top rated chip shops were closed. It was extremely disappointing. The fish and chips weren’t even cooked when we ordered them - They were just pulled out of a drainer. Handy open after the pub place but awful. Cold, over priced. Ordered a battered sausage and chips....ended up with a battered saveloy and chips. Clearly trying to palm off old day stock before close. 8.50 straight in the bin as much safer not to eat it or argue

Customer service needs work ! A smile goes a long way when customers enter or even when serving them Speedy delivery of food brilliant but the greeting or just a thank you after goes along way Appearance of chips was off putting, they looked like they needed more cooking.

The staff were so rude, we understand it was a busy day with the weather however I've not be shouted at the way me and my friends with since I was at school. There is a nicer way to hurry people along instead of shouting. We felt so uncomfortable, we luckily took our food as takeaway as I would not of enjoyed the food sitting inside with their shouting. We were tempted to not pay and leave the food behind as their attitude was disgusting. Must admit food is good, but the stress of purchasing it made it less enjoyable.

Myself and my friends will not be returning here. We went on a Sunday afternoon. The staff were so rude, aggressive and by the end of just being served my extortionate food choice of scampi and chips, I said to the man I did not know if I actually want to eat there and pay for my food because I felt the customer service was so poor. I was screamed at to make a decision within 5 seconds, the man was annoyed when I asked if I had salt/ vinegar on my chips and if he packed a folk? Then I was shoved out the door. The whole experience was rushed, rude and stressful. It’s like an experience at Karen’s diner! The food is okay but there is so many other places to eat in Brighton and for the experience it’s just not worth it! I never leave reviews but on this occasion I felt I had to.

Brilliant Fish and Chips. I've lived in Brighton for almost 10 years and the rumours are true that for a seaside tourist town, a great chippy can be hard to find. Just go here. Happy, funny, allergy aware and very fair prices. Edit: 2 years later, still fantastic!

Called in to get dinner after driving all day from Chester to get to Brighton, headed to the sea front near the pier to find a Fish and Chip shop and came across this one. The inside needs a lick of paint and a good clean, the food just about passes the edibility test. Had a sit down in the cramped corner to watch the comings and goings, it is a very busy place. There were several complaints about the prices when I was there. I would say the main thing it has going for it, is its location.

The absolute worst! This chippy has a very convenient location. Right on the strip and with no other competition either side of it. So as your walking the nice blue exterior draws you to walk in - well don't bother! I visited a few weeks ago and asked for a small sausage and chips. Couldn't believe how extortionate the price was for one but I paid and left . As I was walking and started to eat . The chips were dreadful. Hard, greasy and stale . I then tried the sausage which honestly could have been there from last week given how hard it was. So I decided to go back. I politely explained to the man that my food was not fresh and requested some fresh food. He grabbed my tray from me, used his bare hand, and chucked the sausage back into the warmer to be resold! At that point, I waited for some fresh chips and requested a refund for the sausage as there's no way I would have tried anything else other than chips after seeing his lack of hygiene. Once my chips were ready, I left and attempted to eat them . Freshly cooked this time - yes! But probably the worst chips I've ever had . There are several other chip shops near the peer! This place is Not good

Probablement le pire fish and chips de la ville, on ne peut qu'être admiratifs du génie des patrons de vendre aussi cher une nourriture aussi infecte. On comprend mieux le sourire de l'équipe à notre arrivée. 👏🏻 Les frites étaient grisâtres et faisaient penser à du carton frit dans de l'huile périmée, quant au poisson dont je ne préfère pas imaginer la fraîcheur, il était à peine correct, j'ai croisé les doigts pr ne pas être malade après. Le lieu est mignon et un peu décrépi, cela m'a attirée en premier lieu... bien fait pr moi ! en tout cas très bel attrape touristes dont on se souviendra longtemps 🤣

Without a doubt, the worst fish & chips of my entire life. The fish was undercooked, full of bones and was not fresh. The chips tasted rancid, like the potatoes had long passed their expiration date. Totally unacceptable for any establishment, let alone a place that charges £12.50 for fish & chips. Half of our group of friends (all ate the fish & chips) were sick with stomach cramps, vomiting and diarrhoea within just a few hours. Extremely embarrassing for guests who came from abroad to experience the British seaside. In addition, their payment machine was "broken" - no matter how many cards we tried, it refused to accept them, yet apparently accepted other customer's cards, which seemed suspicious. Avoid like the plague as this place a total tourist trap, given its proximity to the beach.
