Swallow House in Brighton and Hove

Place has gone seriously down hill and tonight I downloaded their app in the hope of getting a hot meal delivered! Not the case, took over an hour and a half to deliver cold food. No apology and disgustingly rude driver. NEVER EVER AGAIN!!

Honestly been going here for years never failed me love this place

I picked up some noodles on my way home - £6 for a huge portion of singapore noodles, was worried they wouldn't take card but they only have a minimum of a fiver. Noodles took 5 mins to get ready and they gave me some free prawn crackers!! Really good noodles very happy

Food is okay but staff can’t handle simple orders. Asked for three small things, got home, realised they had got one of three wrong, came back to ask for the correct food and the woman behind the counter attempted to scold me for her own incompetence. It doesn’t help as well to have a child attempting to take orders behind the counter. Being able to take responsibility for mistakes is pretty crucial, it’s a shame the staff are lacking in this.

I didn't realise that we had such a gem of a Chinese takeaway on my doorstep. Great food at a great price! Try it you won't be disappointed.

The person on the phone was lovely, food was amazing as always! Bit slow at delivering but understandable because they are very busy! The chef doing an fantastic job and people are really sweet there, recommend!!!

Food poisoning from you on Saturday went to come and complain on Tuesday but you are not open good

By far the best Chinese food I’ve eaten .I’ve tried loads of other Chinese restaurants in Brighton and I can’t fault Swallow House quite big portions price’s are reasonable.Owners are lovely polite.Super fast even if I go into the shop to order or get it delivered .Thank you Swallow House

We were in Brighton on Sunday,after hitting the shops we fancied a Sunday Roast, Googled 'best roast in Brighton' The Walrus, Ship St came back, so we decided to give it a go. The Pub is amazing, with loads of different levels and interesting decor, a far cry from when it used to be Smugglers Bar. We sat in the Restaurant, very nice indeed. The food portions are massive, I couldn't finish mine (a rare occurrence), I had the Sirloin of Beef, good taste 3 thick slices, a huge Yorkshire pudding and loads of well cooked Veg, the Gravy although plentiful, lacked flavour. My wifes Pork Belly was very nice but the crackling was weird, deep fried and tasted artificial. Our children's food, again, excellent portions and very tasty according to the kids. The bill was very reasonable £70 for five Sunday Roasts and a round of drinks. I would have given five stars but for the Gravy and Crackling. Service was relaxed and efficient,we will definitely return.

This pub is huge. It has many floors, you can get lost. The drinks are standard pub drinks. It has a great relaxing vibe. The upstairs restaurant has average food, not the best food I had. It was very busy. I would come back when I’m back in Brighton.

Just what you expect from an old school Chinese takeaway. No frills but tasty. I had chicken with ginger and spring onions. Massive portion, lots of chicken and veg. Only thing I'd say is egg fried rice is a bit pricey at 4 quid.

Rubbish the chicken ball was grease and raw in side would not recommend use it

ordered at 8.30 and waited until 10.10 for an email saying the driver couldn't find my location. called the restaurant multiple times with no answer and was supposed to receive a text update on my foods location and was still left in the dark. very unprofessional.

Great food. Good service. Speedy delivery. The sweet and sour sauce which I find can differ greatly with some Chinese takeaway is great from here

the food was incredible- even better than i ever could have imagined. definitely going here again on my next visit to Brighton. highly recommend the shrimp chow mein btw!

Seco y quemado y cocinado en aceite de cocina muy antiguo. Asqueroso. No pude terminar la comida y no pude recomendar.

Just ordered £20 worth. 2 chicken chowmeins, 1 sweet and sour Hong Kong style, 1 portion chicken balls. I rang the order in at 9.21pm the phone call lasted just under 2 minutes as I paid by card which took it to 9.23pm. Food arrived at my door 9 mi Tues later, food was only warm and vegetables not cooked. I will not ever be getting food here again.

Been using these for as long as I can remember, always loved it, ever again, it was cold, the Crispy Fried Chill Beef, was neither chilly or crispy, was so chewy it was disgusting, no longer take care payments on a Saturday as it's too busy, surely it's quicker to take a card payment than hang around for the cash at the door?? Keep serving food like that & you won't have the too busy problem, such a shame as it was my favourite, I didn't realise until reading the reviews it had changed management 🙄

I used to use these place very often few years back and was nice went there last night and that was the most horreble Chinese food i had so never again .chicken bolls they where just thin long chicken covered with thick pastry full of oil. the duck was disgusting only nudles where ok NO GOOD SO IF IS A NEW OWNER PLEASE CHANGE THINK'S

I used to love swallow house! But since the new ownership/ Different cooks, I think it's gone right down hill! Food is tasteless. Half the containers full with food, (so unsure why am paying full price for half a dish!) £40 on an order but can't give prawn crackers out. Menu states FREE bottle of coke on orders over £30! No coke either. Please be aware when ordering from swallow house what is displayed on menu is false advertisement! Don't want anyone else to be as disappointed as I am! I have been a good customer for many years but certainly will not return! As this is the worst Chinese I've ever eaten!

Just moved to the area - happy to find this shop. Food is crispy and not greasy, with good portions and tasty flavour. Delivery was quick, too.

I'm not sure if this Chinese was having a bad night but our food was awful. Barbecue Ribs were cooked in Gravy, nothing barbecue about it. The curry sauce and the chilli beef were so hot that none of us could eat it. The mixed vegetables were awful, in a tub that looked like dishwasher, no flavour what so ever and our chips were cold. Horrendous meal for £43. Not used this Chinese before, only did as China Kitchen were on holiday. Never again! The 1 star is for the free bottle of coke.

Great Chinese takeaway, good value and 10% off when you collect! Only 2 criticisms: from my experience the two times I've got the sweet and sour pork balls they've been very chewy and fatty. And the children who live there are very noisy when you're waiting for your food

Have lived in the area since 1994 and have used this takeaway throughout. Have always had great service and food. Love that they have an app so can order via this and earn loyalty points. Enjoy many of their dishes but the meat spring rolls, salt & chilli prawns and sweet & sour chicken hong kong style are firm favourites. Any notes added via the app for amendments to dishes are acted on.

Disgusted - posted on Just Eat that they were open on Christmas Day and then cancelled my pre order 15 mins after opening ! For personal reasons we did not want a traditional Christmas dinner and decided to order Chinese. Why post that you will be open when you have no intention of fulfilling the order? Thankfully we found a very nice Indian restaurant that even called me personally to say they were on their way. Never will order from Swallowhouse again.

OMG why have I never used this Chinese gem before. Cannot type anymore too busy munching on crispy park and chicken balls.

Can't understand why this longstanding takeaway has been going for as long as I have lived in Brighton. Am I missing something? 10% off for takeaway. They of course deliver. One lone table and a plant. Very Chinese. No interaction with the customer. I had can't recall what out of desperation late one night with nothing in my fridge and it was bland and tasteless. Won't ever go back. Extensive menu.

The best Chinese I've ever had, came to Woodingdean 15 minutes after ordering. Flavour is amazing and always boiling hot. I live right next to a Chinese takeaway but always order from swallow house.

Best Chinese takeaway I've ever had. The meat wasn't cut up into really small pieces like a lot of placed do. Vegetables weren't used to bulk up the dishes. Great quality and taste for the price and speedy delivery with polite delivery driver. This is my first Just Eat review, because I feel this place deserves the great review. I will be recommending this place to my friends and I will defiantly order from here again. Thank you!

Decent food, relatively quick delivery straight to my flat.

The food was perfect. The Thai shredded beef was delicious and they don't skimp out on the beef either! And the chilli and salt chicken was delicious too, and neither dishes were soggy or greasy. Best takeaway ever X

Haven't had a Chinese takeaway this good in a while ! Everything was good, my only negative comment is that the chili beef was a tad over cooked for my liking - still tasty though! Thanks for a good meal :)

This was probably the worst Chinese I've ever had! The rice was overcooked and mashed, definitely not 'fried rice' and the ribs were more fat than meat! AVOID THIS TAKEAWAY AT ALL COST

Firstly, the order was late. When we finally got the order, we did not get the free prawn crackers or bottle of coke that the website stated we would get for free if we spent over £25. The food was okay- nothing special but not awful. Overall, an unsatisfactory takeaway experience.

I was very disappointed to receive Mushroom Foo Yung instead of the Chicken I ordered. Having also ordered stir fried mushrooms I was overwhelmed by mushrooms! Worst experience I have had from Swallow House.

Such a shame but swallow house is so hit and miss. Sometimes it's great but when it's bad it's really rubbish. Took over an hour spring rolls and prawn toast were soggy, chilli beef was dry had def been waiting around. Last few times we ve ordered have been really bad. Think it's time to give up :(
