Friendly easy going place to eat a reasonably priced lunch. Has all sorts of things on the menu so it can tempt all people. Well situated and tasty food.

Super friendly service. We had a lovely brunch, Welsh rarebit, eggs benedict and a jumbo breakfast and we were persuaded to try the “best chips in Brighton “ Everything was freshly prepared and tasty.

The Gladstone is okay for a beer with friends. It has ample seating outside and they have made this area quite comfortable. They often have bands on and play music regularly. However when the music is on, via the jukebox or by the bands, its not loud in there that frankly you find yourself shouting at your friends just to have a conversation. In my opinion, its a good stop off on a bar crawl, but I wouldn't like to stay there all night drinking with friends.

Two excellent flat whites and a sourdough with melted cheese, squash and other things was a significant reboot after a big night out... The toilet would benefit from the same sort of attention though.....

Food and drinks are at the normal standard for a Costa outlet, nice outdoor seating and plenty of parking and access points. decent staff and good food selection, although a little small inside.

We stopped here for breakfast and was served by a very awkward man who clearly had lack of experience in this area of things. A menu was bought pit as if it was a scrap piece of paper that had been sat on for a week. Breakfast arrived and we had to send them back, eggs were overcooked and burnt, hash browns were swimming in oil and the sausages just weren't nice. The only thing we drink was juice which was not normal orange juice as they had ran out and we were charged 2.95 per drink!! Won't be returning ever

The cafe wasn’t very clean, the service was slow, the food was overpriced and the atmosphere was unappealing. I felt uncomfortable the whole entire time. The chef himself did not look hygienic which completely ruined my appetite for the breakfast I was about to be served. I wouldn’t return again. Also the cutlery which I may add was full of fingerprints which just topped it off for me and my husband. 1 star.

The service was poor sadly and the food was over priced for what it is. We had to request the toast with the English Breakfast. Sadly they do not do vegan or vegetarian breakfast. It's a cash only place so not very convivent for travellers or visitors. The groups view of the food is: average and we would not return here.

I visited this cafe hoping it would be lovely there was a rude little blonde girl who was so unwelcoming and really downed the atmosphere. Her horrible tattoos where so unappealing and her demeanour was unwelcoming. Definitely do not recommend.

I woke up in cold sweats last night. You’ll never guess which dingy establishment plagued my restless sleep. You guessed it: The Little Shop. The sour taste and horrendous waiting times sent chills down my spine, rendering me paralysed with dread. Don’t come here. I visited April 2019 and I’m still horrified. Emotionally scarred is an understatement. Help me

Fantastic breakfast, 10/10 would highly recommend!

When I heard we will be going for lunch I was immediately excited and when I saw the little shop I could already see how disgusting and awful this cafe was. But the presentation of the shop wasn’t even nearly as revolting compared to food. I was so looking forward to the taste of CRANBERRY, CHICKEN AND MAYONAISE!!! Who picks these disgusting combinations? The shop was a mess and anyone who is claustrophobic who probably have a panic attack in that shop, it was the size of a old persons shed. The chairs were like leaning on a brick and don’t even get me started on the kitchen. It was dirty, the food was all over the place, the chef was not properly dressed for the job and the sight of the kitchen would have made anyone throw up. The prices was like you were the cost of a diamond for such a dirty and vile sandwich. Anyone that goes here please think twice and look somewhere else if you want to have a satisfactory lunch and to not bring back up what you have just eaten by throwing this up.

As soon as I laid eyes on this establishment, I was immediately given the sense of a rundown, grimy, amateur café. Much like the bread my sandwiches were eventually served on, the experience left a bitter, disgusting taste in my mouth. The wait was long, the water was served in a bottle, as if a glass was too much expense or too fancy. The sandwiches were filled with a mushy, thick paste of sour, bitter muck, slopped unevenly on the soggy bread. The cheese was so artificial and tasteless, the random large chunks of tomato were bitter and uncomfortable to eat. All of it was uncomfortable to eat and I took about three bites before stopping. I didn’t feel ashamed at the amount I left because I felt it belonged in the trash. No one come here, it has no atmosphere, slow service and the food is some of the most disgusting muck I’ve ever eaten.

The day we went there was very poor service, especially slow. It took a good 20 mins to take our order then another 20 mins to arrive. The sandwich order was nice but they forgot the side salad and crisps supposedly with every order, then when requested, said "do you want those then?"...erm, yes! My jacket spud looked good but it was a shame it didn't have a bit of garnish salad, and it was a big mistake putting the coleslaw on top of the spud because it made it cold. Also i liked the idea of melted cheese on it but actually it didn't work as well as you'd imagine. It just didn't taste nice and I have a lot of jacket spuds out. Plus a hefty bill for the privilege which I wouldn't mind if it had been good.

After being ignored and neglected by the manager/waitress for about 10 minutes. We genuinely waited over 45 minutes before I even started asking the manager what was going on. While we were waiting in this time, loads of other customers WHO SAT DOWN AFTER US - got their food BEFORE US!! What an absolute joke. The waitress then said we had to wait for the table next to us to get their food before they can prepare our sandwiches, because there was only one chef... It had been 50 minutes by this point. During this time, I caught a glimpse of the kitchen when the door swung open... And I was disgusted with what I saw.. A grubby, dirty kitchen with one female chef with her hair down, and wearing a dress. She wasn’t even wearing any protective chef clothing Or hair net. By 60 mins, our easy to make bacon sandwiches still hadn’t arrived .. So we decided to leave in frustration and disappointment. As we walked out, the manager chased us down the path claiming I hadn’t paid for my tea. Hahaha. How charming. You really think I should pay for your limescale filled, Luke warm tea after waiting for an hour? I still reluctantly handed over some pound coins and walked off. After this, me and my girlfriend went hungry and just decided to go about our day without breakfast. It completely ruined our morning/day and just put a downer on everything. Please. Don’t. Go. Here. Absolutely joke of a cafe.

We came here on our walk back to the station, hoping for a quick tasty breakfast. There were a couple of empty tables out the front so we sat down and waited to be served. After 10 minutes our order was finally taken (after first taking the order of a larger group who had arrived after us). We ordered a breakfast each and a cup of coffee. Then we waited and waited some more. Nobody came to inform us about where our food was or to offer us more drinks. After 50 minutes, a member of staff came over to the large group next to us to tell them that their food wouldn’t be much longer. When we asked if ours was coming soon we were told that it would be another 15 minutes!! By this point we were very hungry, pissed off and had a train to catch so didn’t hang around to see what took so long to cook... Brighton has many good food choices, unfortunately we picked the wrong one.

I came here with my wife and two children on a sunny Friday lunchtime. Looking for somewhere for a nice sandwich and a cup of tea and saw the “Best Sandwich Shop in Brighton” sign outside this little shop. Bitterly disappointed and it’s really ended our holiday on a sour note. Service - Incredibly slow. Taking orders - 10mins. Tea/Coffee - further 25 mins. Sandwiches- a further 20 mins. We were there over an hour and we had 3 sandwiches and a jacket potato and beans! Infuriating. Not a care given by anyone in the staff. I felt sorry for the young boy working there, he has a very poor mentor although the senior lady does come to life when it’s time to pay! Food - at £6.95 a baked potato and £5.95 a sandwich I was expecting something half tidy. My “Thai” chicken sandwich was cheap chicken in a cheap sauce between 2 half toasted slices of cheap white bread. My sons cheese toastie was off less quality. You could make 20 of them for the price and quality! The baked potato looked liked it had been dropped, I wasn’t expecting high end presentation but it looked like a primary school cookery lesson! My daughter said it tasted nice though. Avoid this place. So many better places close by, I cant believe this place is surviving. Also they don’t take card. Not the end of the world there’s a cash point nearby.

Stopped at "the best sandwich shop in Brighton" today for a sandwich, only to be told "I don't think we're doing sandwiches today." After going to check we were then told that in fact there were sandwiches available! Only now I wish there hadn't been! We ordered 2 sandwiches and a jacket potato that all arrived at different times! The bread on my sandwich was very greasy (??). Staff seemed very uninterested and were in no hurry to do anything. Would not visit again!!

Stopped off at the Little Shop for a light lunch today, unfortunately the staff were not really interested if we were there or not, we waited 10 minutes to have our order taken, it was not busy, and then they popped out to the shop and we waited another 30 minutes for the sandwiches, which were not even good enough for us to eat. No apologies for the lateness or the fact the food was unsatisfactory. I’m not sure how this was voted the best sandwich shop in Brighton, I would never return and certainly advise others not too as well.

Came here for breakfast. Very busy little cafe which is a great sign. It does mean you have wait for a bit longer than usual but this wasn’t an issue for us. The fact that it is busy is a vote of confidence and shows that people like to eat here. Food was great, just what we needed. Service with a smile. Good value as well. Would definitely return.

I been visit so many places in Brighton to have a breakfast, and I can tell this little cafe in the Lanes just did , one of true and best breakfast in town , the food was delicious , very good seasoning and no words for the Brilliant cooked , just say thanks to the chef , also amazing friendly staff ! Totally recommend

Went here for breakfast with family who were visiting. Nice coffee and the owner made us feel very welcome. Quite a while to wait for food but that’s because everything was cooked from scratch. Breakfast very nice.

Empezamos con los cafés americanos. Entonces mi esposa pidió el desayuno de Buda y yo pedí tocino, huevos muy fáciles, tostadas y mermelada. Algunos críticos se han quejado de la espera. Si tengo tiempo limitado para comer afuera, seré sincero con mi servidor al respecto. De lo contrario, disfruto experimentando la vida a un ritmo relajado con la mayor frecuencia posible. Tomó un tiempo para que nuestros platos llegaran, pero fue una hermosa mañana en el patio y la comida fue perfecta. Lisa, la copropietaria era dulce y alegre. La felicité por la calidad del tocino y dijo que era una prioridad para ella y su pareja, que es la cocinera. En mi próximo viaje a Brighton, espero volver a pedir el mismo desayuno.

Very slow to get the food out not sure what got was actually food never visit

We spent a while deciding where to go for breakfast when we came across the little shop it was quaint and the Welsh rarebit seemed very appealing unfortunately after a 40 minute wait of which we were not advised of and only a handful of people in the place we finally got our food I found it inedible no flavour and barely could tell if it was actually cheese the ketchup was so cheap it just tasted of vinegar when asked if food was ok I said no and that it tasted bland I was then offered a free drink which I declined I had only had a few mouthfuls and was surprised not to be offered a refund the waitress clearly has no idea how to deal with complaints I run my own food establishment and would never of left my customers leaving unhappy but she just shrugged it off after all they just got £20 out of us for a few slices of bread cheese and nesquick milkshake Don’t waste your money.

Sat waiting for over 5 minutes then gave up and got our own menus. Was about to go to counter and order after still no sign of staff. Just as I approached counter someone turned up. Ordered 2 toasties and 2 cold drinks, drinks came after 5 mins. We then waited 25 mins for the food, it wasn’t busy and no one came to update us or say anything. As it approaches 30 minutes we gave up and went elsewhere. Paid for drinks and weren’t even offered apology for the wait or explanation. They still hadn’t started to prep our food at this point. Just ridiculous place.

After walking round for a hour we picked this place because of the Welsh rarebit. Was very pleased to find somewhere that had it on the menu. What turn up on my plate after waiting 40 mins it had no flavor it looked like cheese but after eating a mouth full I was not sure what I was eating no mustered or sauce. We told them we did not think it was very nice just got told it was very busy but I could only count 10 other people when we ordered will not be going back .

Returning to the little shop after a highly entertaining experience back in November. Had high hopes for the delicious chips, generous portions and characterful staff.

Lovely sandwiches and had the most amazing chips. The cafe is situated on a side street, which is quiet and out of the sun!

We visited on a Saturday for lunch, arrived around 1:45 and ordered 5 mins later. About 25 minutes later my wife was told they had no pastrami so she changed to a prawn avocado sandwich. At 2:45 our order arrived and given it’s such a small place that is positively snail speed. Also, the sandwich was at best average although my buck rarebit was good. Having had so much time on my hands I had calculated the bill so it was annoying that I was asked for a higher amount. It was only pence so I didn’t bother to argue but as they only take cash it was lucky I had enough! I agree with other reviews that this is a Fawlty Towers-esque place. Despite that we won’t be returning.

My partner and I chanced upon this little gem just off Brighton‘s Market Street on Sunday morning. I ordered a Buddha breakfast (vegetarian) and my partner, who was feeling particularly hungry, chose the King-size breakfast with an extra portion of thick-cut chips! The service was very good and the very friendly waitress checked that everything was OK several times. Couldn’t fault the fresh food, especially the chips which were cooked to perfection, the excellent service, and we were delighted to be supporting this local cafe, rather than a chain. We’ll be back before long.

Must try the Chicken Tikka Salad!!! My brother and I visited 3 times in a span of 2 weeks here in Brighton. Amazing food, friendly staff and very welcoming atmosphere! Special shout out to Lisa! 😊

We stumbled across this little sandwich bar/cafe and decided to have a light lunch. The staff were friendly and helpful after our heavy night before lol!!! Sandwiches were lovely and cannot fault the service! The waitress evening remembered us that evening when we strolled past after dinner!!! We did have a laugh with them that evening x

Pasamos a desayunar ayer por la mañana y nos recibió un amable personal que recordó que pasamos el día anterior. El servicio fue cálido y amable y nos sirvieron rápidamente. La comida estaba recién hecha y muy sabrosa, así como a un precio razonable. La ubicación también es excelente, justo en el corazón de los carriles. Volveremos.

Found this great homely breakfast cafe in The Lanes. They served a lovely well cooked, hearty breakfast.......and great value. Friendly service as well. My wife & I owned a Guest House in Brighton for 13 years.... I know a good breakfast when I taste one!!

We popped in here for a full English , had mint tea , the food was 2 sausages, 2 bacon, eggs, beans, mushrooms, toast and mint tea, the quality of the sausages were superb not the usual cheap rubbish , it arrived in good time especially as it's all made fresh to order, all the staff were friendly and polite, would definitely visit again.

Stumbled across this coffee shop in the lanes. The staff love what they do and are very enthusiastic. The food is delicious and not like any of these other coffee shops. Excellent is an understatement.

We called in hoping for lunch, we ordered our Brie and cranberry sandwich, after half an hour we were told that they had run out of Brie! So I ordered cheese, but we waited and waited, I went into the shop to pay for my drink and informed them that we no longer wanted to wait, surprise surprise ilu chaws about to come out of the kitchen, but we had made our mind up to go elsewhere, unless you have loads of time and have pot luck with the menu, don’t go.

When we ordered we were told there was a 20 minute wait. We said that was ok. I then asked for poached eggs and the waitress looked at me blankly as if she’d never heard of them. Then she said the was worried they might take longer and it’s best to order off the menu. We both ordered simple breakfasts off the menus. Our orange juice came in a bottle with no glasses, the table was dirty and after waiting 50 minutes and chasing a couple of times we were told by one waiter it would be 3 minutes then by another it would be 5 minutes, then told it was being dished up. Eventually our breakfast arrived. We had waited 80 minutes altogether. It was mediocre at best. We were offered a free drink at this point and an apology for the delay. Ridiculous. We were also over charged. Worst breakfast experience I’ve ever had. We should have left after 20 minutes but thought we’d give them a chance. Big mistake!

Lovely little cafe!! Lovely people and great service! The lady that served me was so nice and offered me a free glass of water as i wasnt feeling great, chips are amazing best ive had in a long time :) will definitely be going back when i am next down in Brighton.

Food was ok, but all we ordered was 3 sandwiches and ended waiting over 30 minutes. The drinks were warm and they had no ice. Music was loud, the crisps which came with the sandwich were a total of 4, as in 4 crisps. The salad was fine. I personally would like to question their claim of "Voted Best Sandwich Shop"? I've been to Subways which cost less than this, have higher quality of food and on a serious note, can make 3 sandwiches in less than 5 minutes.

They are serving the most delicious English Breakfast ever!! Portion is reasonable and sausage and beacon are not greasy. Great cosy place!

Great little cafe. The owners seems friendly, and the service received was good. Food quality wise, ingredients seemed of a good standard and the food was pretty tasty on the fry up we had. We did have to wait 20min but on a busy Sunday morning it seems many of the cafe would require a similar wait. Would definitely visit again next time!

A good cafe, serving tasty sandwiches and a decent mug of tea. Chatty, polite staff who are easy to engage with. We both had brie, bacon and cranberry sauce sandwiches, which came with side salad and a few crisps.

Stopped off for a quick bite and had lovely Welsh Rarebit with a bowl of “highly recommended chips” very friendly service and competitively priced for Brighton

I was walking around Brighton with my family looking for a nice place to have breakfast. I wanted to avoid all the chains and find a small business. This place certainly did not disappoint. Living in London, I’ve had some incredible breakfasts in my time but this was absolutely unreal. For less than £10, I had a huge english breakfast and a big mug of tea. The quality of each ingredient was phenomenal and made for a wonderful meal. WOULD DEFINITELY RECOMMEND.

They advertise breakfast for £6.50 On their window. There were three couples and me. I waited for 45 minutes for 2 poached eggs, 2 slices of toast, some jam, 2 rashers of bacon and 2 cups of coffee, the second only because I waited so long .... the bill.... £13.85.... RIP OFF

After a lovely walk from Marina we stumbled across this lovely cafe. I was very impressed with overall service. Friendly welcoming staff, good service and an amazing tasty sandwich which was served with a nice side salad. Very reasonably priced too. Will definately be returning to try something else on the extensive menu.

I've passed this place a few times, always empty. I figured it was a place worth avoiding but Breakfast Club was full and we were desperate. Rude staff, terrible food and hideous decor. Avoid!

Mixed opinions on this one. Clearly a 'Brighton traffic catcher' rather than a locals haunt, this place welcomes us but sadly the next 15 minutes involved the chef (possibly owner) arguing with the front of (cafe) staff over till reports. This added said 15 minute delay to our simple sandwich order and was highly unprofessional. Many would have walked out. Ironically we discussed leaving as we had only been served tea for two after 20 mins and they had served the wrong tea also. But we stuck it out, another couple left for the same reasons we planned during this time. And this place only has 5 covers... But when the sandwiches finally arrived they were fine and we were glad we did not walk out although £5 for tea for two which was the wrong tea is not great. As this place I guess relies on passing traffic I doubt reviews make much difference to it but it could be so so so much better, DONT ARGUE IN FRONT OF GUESTS!!!

Muy pequeña cafetería pero simplemente perfecto! Comí un sándwich de champiñones, tocino y queso tostado recién hecho - fue hecho a pedido y estaba delicioso, ¡hecho en casa! Mis amigos tenían huevo escalfado que estaba muy bien preparado. Nuestro té fue hecho individualmente para nuestros gustos individuales. Una visita tan relajante y no debe perderse! !

We spotted this down a side road and it looked very nice. There was one guy performing waiter service who was very amiable. Food of toasted cheese sandwich and cheese and coleslaw brown bread sandwich - with the best biggie chips ever! Wonderfully prepared food, well filled. Seats inside and outside. We sat outside and it was a very nice experience.

Went here for lunch, very friendly service. They were very busy as a party had just arrived and they advised that there would be a wait of about 20 minutes which was fine with us. Excellent Welsh rarebit and a great cup of tea. Great to sit outside in the shade and watch the world go by.

Annarice89 we had the same thoughts! Also paid £4.55 and expected something nice but, no, two slices shop bought bread with a stingy, mean filling. We had bought them to eat later so did not look straightaway. Wish we had, would have had a few little words. Although the man that served us was very smiley and polite, no wonder!

Wife and I were looking for a cream tea in the lanes, stumbled into this small, unassuming place and were served with a darn near perfect one. Perfect end to a perfect day in Brighton. Many thanks Little Shop; we’ll be back 😀

Squint hard enough and you may spot a tiny bit of bacon! Two bits of hovis with 2 rashers if bacon and some happy shopper ketchup. Having a laugh?? Would have complained but the manager was preoccupied arguing with his kitchen staff.

Service very poor, food eventually arrived after a very long wait. would not recommend it, complete shambles the day we went!!!!!

We visited on Easter Monday, my boyfriend ordered the jumbo breakfast. Produce so good, bacon and sausages wow. I had a toasted sandwich, again wonderful. Nice jazz music in the back ground, lovely gentleman waiter, food all cooked as ordered. It was a lovely morning. Thank you. loved my first trip to Brighton and The Little Shop definitely the best Full English ever. :-)

We popped in here whilst strolling through The Lanes last Saturday and were enticed in by the notice outside saying "the best sandwich shop in Brighton". I was initially put off when I entered as the decor is that of a traditional cafe and I was expecting something a bit cosier and warmer. HOWEVER, the food we ordered was fresh and made to order; I had a tuna, red onion and sweetcorn baguette and my partner had a breakfast bap with bacon, sausage and egg. We both had mugs of hot drinks and have to say contrary to someone else's review here found the coffee to be very good (my partner is very fussy about coffee!) and I loved my tea so much I had two!

Very friendly service. Clean table and cutlery. Got here at 9.05am...opening time 9am...and by 9.30 am...I was eating my full English. Very good breakfast ..eggs cooked perfectly! Disappointed...no toilet...so make sure you go before coming.

Great find for the morning after the night before. Lovely fresh cooked breakfast with friendly service. Would definitely recommend.
