Cookham is a lovely little village which deserves a lovely little teashop, but this ridiculously over-priced establishment isn't it. It is described as shabby (which it is) but chic (which it definitely is not). Firstly, there was no friendly welcome and when I said I was there to eat in rather than take-out the woman at the counter looked annoyed and wordlessly handed me a menu. I make a point of being polite to cafe staff and I had no conversation with her beyond simply answering her question, but I sensed I was not welcome. I wondered if this might have been because she had just cleaned the tables because they were wet and the scent of some sort of bleach-based cleaning product permeated the room. The lack of welcome was reinforced by the same waitress when she bought me my food, as she glared at me and handed me the plate rather than place it on the table, as if she resented me being there. So much for the 'service'. As for the meal, the tea was weak and made with cheap teabags or old water. The salad garnish with my meal was laughable and, piece de resistance, there was a hair in the Welsh Rarebit. I didn't bother to tell them as by this stage I had decided I would definitely never go there again. The one star is for cleanliness.

We were gifted afternoon tea and chose to go to the Teapot. The staff were very friendly and the tea was sumptuous with lots of sandwiches, cakes and scones with cream and strawberries. All the cakes were baked on the premises, it was all delicious. What we could not manage to eat there was boxed for us to take home. We will be back.

We called in at lunchtime on a Sunday but just for tea and cakes after the Stanley Spencer Gallery. It was busy but friendly and welcoming and easily found a table. Service was polite and professional. The tea was perfect and hot. The cakes large portions, really fresh and even came with a proper cake fork automatically.

Overpriced with surly staff. I should have looked for somewhere else. £4.10 for toast and jam. A loaf in the supermarket is £1.05. It is expensive , the waiting staff are not pleasant and can’t seem to handle a busy service as they were short staffed. My glass was not clean and there was a toy on the patio that the staff just went around, no one picked it up. Overall, they should be ashamed of their prices and service.

A welcome stop after a lengthy Thames walk. It’s a proper little old English Tea Room with outside seating too! The cakes are great and they do a lovely cream tea with either strawberry or raspberry handmade jam to go with your scone. It’s quaint and doesn’t pretend to be what it’s not. Crockery is mismatching and everything is a little ‘rickerty’ but it’s charming and well served by the local community.

We called in for tea coffee and scone about 330pm and were told they closed at 4pm but they still served us. 10 minutes before 4pm while finishing our coffee tea and scone we noticed we were the last people but one couple and a dog were still sat in the other room. The girls sprayed foam bleach on 4 or 5 tables right next to us and left it there all wet and stinking. It must have been toxic as irritated my sinuses and throat and may have gone in the food and drink. This was worse than being sat in a toilet. All they had to do was politely say they were closing or even at 330pm they should tell people they are not serving anymore as closing at 4pm.

We are lovers of independent tea shops and home made cake, so we stopped off. Given the disorganised greeting, we sat down inside. For two cups of Earl Grey Tea and two pieces of cake, it was going to be £15. After much amusement, we decided one piece of cake would do between us. The cake was OK, but nothing spectacular and we've had far better cake creations and far cheaper. And 3.50 for a tea bag and hot water?Simply outrageous!

Sat out in the rear courtyard which was clean and tidy.We asked about the scones, jam and cream and were told by two servers that they had run out of sconesWe ordered cakes instead (only apparently two types left apparently), which were delicious. However we then saw three other tables who came in after us a few minutes later all order scones (9 orders in total). When we asked one of the servers, all she could mumble was that the scones were being baked - why were we not told this, as we would have waited a few minutes. We also noticed other types of cake being served, not just the ones we had been told were only available. The owner needs to organise the staff better, as sloppy service lets this teashop down.

The food is good as are the drinks but I just want to point out a couple of issues I saw re hygiene.A waitress came into the garden and spent a long time petting a customers dog, she went straight back into the kitchen without washing her hands, she also had extremely long painted fingernails which is a big no no from an environmental health perspective.Hopefully the manager will see this and pull her up on it.

Just 2 customers there and I was still ignored. Was also in the tea shop with my wife on Sunday and all was fine.I like using the tea shop but this is not the first time service has been poor even when quiet. I also asked if they could make some sandwiches and cake for us to take out. This was no problem and all of the food was delicious including the gluten free items, which is not often the case. All done with a most endearing style. We shall certainly use the Teapot in future.

I wasn't sure of the dog friendly status of the restaurant, we were greeted immediately and shown to a table with plenty of floor space for Bruce to lie down. The menu looked small but there was lots of items I could have chosen. I'm very fussy as mainly a vegetarian, but I do have the odd fish meal. One of my favourites is bagel with smoked salmon and cream cheese. Bruce, of course, is not fussy. They have a variety of teas, not just the breakfast, green tea and fruit tea choice. I ordered my favourite, Darjeeling. 2 tables had placed their requirements just before mine. The tables were served in the order they were placed. When mine came I was very impressed with the presentation. The salmon was lovely, not tough. The bagel halves were warm and the salad was fresh. Summary: the tea and the food was lovely and service was efficient.

I've driven past this attractive-looking teashop hundreds of times, and always thought it would be a nice place to visit one day.My partner and I had walked along the towpath from Maidenhead and fancied a cuppa once we were in Cookham, and immediately this place sprung to mind.We had a nice friendly welcome, and the cafe was relatively quiet. We sat by the window, which was nice with the morning sun coming in.We'd only popped in for tea but, when we saw the menu with all the lovely food choices, decided that we'd enjoy some breakfast too!I had scrambled eggs, which were lovely - nicely presented and very tasty. There's lots of other nice snacks available too such as fresh cakes, sandwiches, jacket potatoes and wraps. We loved the decor too, and it has a nice quaint atmosphere with lots of interesting ornaments. We also liked the choice of music - the 'Gold' radio station, which played lots of familiar oldies and was unobtrusive and added to the relaxing ambience. We noticed there's a garden with seating too, so we'll definitely come back when it's a bit warmer and make use of that.In all all, a very enjoyable 'village-y' experience and somewhere that's well worth a visit away from the hustle and bustle of bland and impersonal chain cafes. Thanks so much for making us feel so welcome, and we look forward to our next visit!

I sat down waited and waited no one came then I asked the lady I wanted to order a coffee, she said sit down we will come to you, I waited and waited some more at this point I was just about to walk out, then finally the waitress came who wasn’t very welcoming and felt like she didn’t want to be there, there was another fella sitting on a table who she was so rude to. I ordered my coffee hesitate to order the cake as there were a swarm of bees around in the garden and in the tea shop, it just didn’t feel hygienic, I wouldn’t order food personally as for the price I wouldn’t expect them to use hovis bread which was clearly displayed in their kitchen.. after a little sit and so much drama just to have something simple as a coffee I’ve never experienced such appalling customer service! It finally got so bad with the bees I just gulped my coffee and ran out the place! I’ll never return.

Our food was freshly prepared and served promptly: each plate came with a generous salad garnish and coleslaw – neither of which were sullied by onion to our collective pleasure. The service was friendly, swift and efficient. The americano coffee was full-flavoured and quite strong (which we like). The only less-than-perfect item was the hot chocolate one of our party ordered – it is provided in component form: a mug of hot milk and a lump of chocolate on a stick that is supposed to melt in the milk, except the milk wasn’t hot enough to dissolve the chocolate properly.

Walking the Thames path from Maidenhead to Henley, my wife and I needed a morning tea/coffee fix. And for me a scone, too. At the Teapot, not only was the welcome warm, the tea lovely and the scone light, this place showed it could handle anything. The place was rather full when we got there midmorning on a glorious Sunday. The server apologized that service would be a bit slow because of the other patrons. No worries, we said; many people imply you are good. We had just been served when a club of a dozen or more bicyclists arrived, hungry and thirsty for their mid-ride stop. Another shop might have sent them away because they couldn't serve anyone else. The Teapot welcomed them warmly, showed them a garden where they could sit with their bikes, and advised them what they could serve quickly and what would take a while. A win for all!

This little tearoom in the high street in cookham, is a real treasure. Not only a really good range of homemade wonderful cakes it also does simple cooked meals, including breakfast, (they don't do bacon) but really delicious. It has an olde world atmosphere inside and a lovely little garden outside where you can eat. The staff are very friendly and helpful everything is served with a smile..the only downside is being able to find a parking space in cookham!

Beautiful shop - excellent tea and coffee. Beware of the cakes - they are truly scrumptious but so so hard to finish. I can highly recommend the carrot cake.

There is something addictive about British Tea Shops, and to resist is futile. They serve a good cup of tea (many different options) and they make a mean cup of coffee, so either option works well. Then there are the cakes - several options, all of which look home made. If i were braver, i would have had one of each, butt hat would be a tad unseemly. There were three of us and we all indulged in different cakes and all were happy with the result.

Visited today, elegant looking tea shop with nice crockery. Tea was fairly reasonable but a slice of cake was £3.55! Paying £7 for two slices of cake is daylight robbery. There are no prices on the menu or counter for the cakes either!

I was visiting Cookham for the day and needed a good cup of tea to keep me going. Despite the day being chilly and all the shops indoor tables being occupied, I was able to enjoy a lovely slice of cake with my perfect pot of tea in the back garden. Refreshed!

I popped in here for some brunch with a friend. It is simply delightful inside and out the inside is very cottage like and the garden is very cute with bistro tables and dogs allowed in too!! We sat outside and had a coffee and a sandwich each. Nothing disappointed. A lovely little place to visit on a weekend morning for some peace and quiet :)

I have often passed this tea shop and when asked by a friend where I would like to go for a birthday tea/lunch I decided this was the place, as I love trying new restaurants and tea shops. I was not disappointed. My baked potato with prawns, salad and coleslaw was delicious, topped with huge prawns. The Earl Grey tea was also good. However, what makes this place so special was the lovely china and the décor. It is what a real English tea shop should be. The service was excellent and the waitress smiled, which is a bonus nowadays. We rounded off the meal with the lightest, moist and delicious home-made carrot cake I have ever tasted. I shall be returning!

A nice enough little tea shop on the high street in Cookham. Large selection of different teas, although quite pricey at £3 a pot. But if you want a cake, you need take out a mortgage. My wife had a small piece of bakewell tart (about 2 x1 inches) which cost £3.45. God knows what the sponge cakes cost, interestingly no prices were shown on the cakes or in the menu.

It is nice to find a small informal tea room in a beautiful Berkshire village. We only had a pot of tea but the cakes appeared to be home made and looked very appetising for those who like cake.It was a lovely sunny day and we had the option of sitting inside or out in the small back garden.

A small tea shop in Cookham handy to stop off while walking the Thames Path. The menu was reasonable but very overpriced. We waited ages to get served, there were only two members of staff, one serving and one cooking. The tea was weak and tasteless but we enjoyed the tea cakes. Customer service was poor, the waitress looked uninterested and could barely make eye-contact or smile. We tried to get her attention to pay but she ignored us. Probably would look elsewhere in future.

Myself and my boyfriend just visited here after a nice walk. It was terrible. Firstly unfriendly service, three young girls are running the place (or appear to be).SO OVERPRICED! 6£ for a cream tea which only involved one MICROWAVED and likely supermarket tea cake . I asked if I could change my English breakfast tea to earl grey and that was going to be 1£ extra! Are they mad! My boyfriend ordered the buck rarebait- 7£ for some poorly done poached eggs and cheese on toast! Overall, sadly a poor experience, it felt like a once well run tea shop which has been left to the kids who have no idea. Also- 7£ for a panini with TWO fillings, 85p for extras. This is mad when a filling contains pesto as one!!!!!Avoid. Cookham needs another better tea shop.

Really like this place. One of only a few places we've visited locally who actually make you feel as if they want your custom.Open on Sundays. There is a small courtyard garden, but it was too wet and cold for us to use.The small fresh flowers on each table are a lovely touch. Delicious and unusual 'Courgette and Lime' cake, moist and light. Excellent crumpets. Herbal teas from 'Teapigs'. I do prefer leaf teas but these are the next best thing. Will return.

I met a friend here and we enjoyed chatting and catching up. To be honest the tea was awful considering it's a tea shop!We both had smoked salmon & cream cheese bagels which were nice but nothing special. The carrot cake we shared was AMAZING though!I'm not sure I'll go again to be honest. Much nicer array of cafes in nearby Marlow!

Quaint and small with generous portions. The soup was hot, tasty and generous in size. The sandwich came with a generous helping of salad. After a brisk circular walk, we headed back for cake and tea. A delightful teashop.

We popped into this cafe half way through a walk down the Thames Path - I have a small dog and we noticed the sign saying dogs welcome so went in - The tea and coffee were served in delightfully cups and my friend had a lovely tea pot - the staff were very friendly and brought a bowl and biscuit for the dog - it is lovely inside with a great menu and lots of homemade cakes our only regret was that we had just had lunch otherwise we would have ditched the sandwiches and ate here. Well done Teapot Shop first class a must if you are passing

Coffee and tea was great and the ploughman's and crumpets we shared were fresh and great value. Not sure why it's page has 2-3 dollar signs, as it is not expensive.

Outstanding tea shop, so cute! Me and my partner were randomly exploring Cookham and stumbled into the teapot tea shop. One of the nicest meals we have had out for a long time I had the buck rarebit (yummy) and Jemima had a sandwich ( freshly made) Coffee was a little to strong for my taste but the misses loved it (coffee feind) so yeah all in all 10/10, oh and the puddings not bad either

I live locally to this little cute looking tea shop. A cup of tea, mug of coffee, cheese on toast, a slice of toast and a slice cake £16. That would be ok if it was any good. I ordered Welsh rarebit with two poached eggs, they weren't poached, they were microwaved, they would have made good rubber balls but hopeless food. I sent it back and they produced exactly the same, taking no notice of my request for soft eggs. Microwave does eggs that are hard they are not poached but they are inedible. The tea was so weak it needed first aid to get out of the pot, also undrinkable, and the coffee lacked any discernible flavour. For a tea shop this is as poor as it gets. But not content with that, I had commented to the waiteress that the coffee had no creme, on top which was strange since they claimed to have made it through an Italian steam coffee machine that is unheard of, any visit to any high street coffee chain would verify that. It tasted like weak filter coffee. Instead I was told I should have ordered a mocha, and that Americano is a black coffee only, well it isn't at Starbucks, costa, cafe Nero, etc. I am to,d the homemade carrot cake wasn't ok.

The People the Grange support will serve you at your table gaining experience of dealing with customers and handling money. This is an excellent and weel worth suppoting. The tea is served in the Victoriam conservatory. The cost is £6.50 a head for a scone, jam and cream with unlimited tea of coffee. Most enjoyable. The only minor downside is the start time of 2 o'close which for us is far too early 3 o;clock for tea would suit us much better and this is the only point thatwill stop us returning

The worst experience having breakfast. Ordered a tea and came in takeaway cup sitting in.. with milk and teabag in together. Worst scrambled age I’ve ever seen they were like milk and upon asking the waitress why she replied the chef likes to use undercook them!! The salmon was covered in fat also which hadn’t been cut off when prepared! Awful experience would not recommend as had two bad experiences in this cafe with food.

I took my elderly mum out for lunch and when I asked for a diet coke, I was told that they didn't sell that and all cold drinks were in the cabinet. I asked if they had any other sugar free cold drink. I was told I'd have to look at the cans, or I could have water or a hot drink. I decided therefore to go without. The food = mum ordered the beef and ale pasty. It was so dried up and hard that she could barely cut it with a knife let alone her teeth! I did complain to the waitress who promised to feed back and waited a good 10 minutes or so as I thought someone might show some interest and come over. They didn't! I appreciate that things can go wrong in any business but it's how those things are dealt with that seperates the good from the average. With so many choices locally, can't say I'll be rushing back.
