Visited at lunchtime, but no brunch items available. Only sandwiches and salads. Used to be fabulous food years ago, new owners perhaps? Got order wrong. Only sandwiches available on kids menu. Had to order toast for my toddler. Asked for 2 slices, jam on side. Got 1 slice, jam already on. Sandwiches were tasty, but expensive. Nothing special and Wouldnt go back.

Great disappointment. Used to be a very popular stop for cyclists as well, but none - should perhaps have been a sign of things to come. Wondering if new management? Very slow service despite only 3/4 tables, expensive, unpleasant burnt-tasting scones which left foul taste in mouth and for a long time after, incorrect orders delivered - milk instead of lemon with Earl Grey tea, and milky weak latte coffee instead of flat white, luke warm coffee. 2/3 of waitresses were friendly. Couldn't honestly recommend and we won't be returning.

The food was average, what should have been hot was cold. The tables outside have seen better days and the little table and chairs are unsuitable for (shall we say bigger people) and the elderly. We were very disappointed. Back to copper kettle house.

We live in Chelmsford and we often drive pass and thought we would go in for a cooked breakfast. There was no one else in the cafe and we gave our order. First the plus points, the tea and coffee were nice and hot, the food arrived quickly, a bit too quickly in my opinion. Now the not so good points. The area was a bit grubby, our table still had the remnants of ketchup or something and the place required freshening up. The plates were cold and the food was warm and went cold very quickly. The only items that were hot were the sausages, but, they were hard and crinkled, my suspicions are that they were left over sausages that had been microwaved. Very expensive for what was offered and not very good value at all.

I wouldn’t come here again.. As my first time in Danbury, there wasn’t much options of places to eat. I’d walked in here in hope of having something for brunch, and seeing it attached and working aside the deli, expected decent dishes. The place looked run down. I’m assuming it was suppose to be a vintage style tea room, but it needs a deep clean, some redecorating, love and attention. Don’t get me wrong, the Lady was friendly who served me, but she was either busy doing something on her computer or round the back in the kitchen, having a conversation with another member of staff, loud enough for the few customers in the front to hear, about someone who was asking general questions about the place and probably wasn’t satisfied either. I was close to just walking out without paying, but had the decency to pop my head round and ask to pay. So attention to customers is needed, checking to see if they need anything. I had eggs Benedict and a mocha. I wouldn’t say the meal was worth 8.95. The eggs looked sad. Taste wise, it was okay but it wasn’t wow. The presentation could of been much better, and again, not sure if it’s suppose to be vintage related, but just plain white plates would have been better. I know it was miserable outside which didn’t help, but the lighting and brightness was dark. Cobwebs and rested dust on lights, overhead fan, windowsills and other places. Floor needed a good sweep and tables needed cleaning. It wasn’t exactly busy so one of the ladies could have swept and cleaned the tables as soon as people left. Most of the chairs were stained, the wallpaper shows wear and tear, and the bathroom tiling looked unpleasant. Toilet sign needed and lock on the bathroom cupboard, as bleach was hanging out. Deep clean and air freshener needed.

Popped in for lunch with the wife. Had to be quick to get a table due to the popularity of the venue. Nice and clean and the staff were great. The food was fantastic, but tea overpriced. The food looks exactly the same in real life as in the social media pictures. We will be going back in the warmer days so we can use the outside tables.

The service in this cafe has gone downhill terribly. The last time I visited with my mum, we were left at the door for 10 mins before being asked to sit down, and greeted with a less than great attitude when we finally tried to get someone’s attention. Today - we were sitting for 15 minutes being ignored by staff, without even being asked if we wanted a drink. This time we just walked out and will give our money/business to people who actually want it. Such a shame, as we have been long term supporters of this local business including throughout Covid.

Took my parents here when they came to visit me at uni as I’ve heard really good things about this place. However, disappointed doesn’t even cover it. I’m vegan and ordered the green Thai curry which completely lacked flavour and taste. Yet this biggest disappointment came with my parent’s food. Both ordered eggs royale and both found bits of grit and sand in their spinach and clear indication it hadn’t been washed. Furthermore, my Dad found a large piece of eggshell in his dish, putting him off the rest and leaving over half . I understand this is a mistake which happens so we politely spoke to the manager about the issues he thought it was acceptable to only take half of my dad’s food off the bill and nothing more. When questioned about this he came across and frankly rude and dismissive - although he eventually did take my dads meal off in full. Overall, this place was such a large disappoint. The only redeeming feature was our server (I believe his name was Michale) who was honestly fantastic and so incredibly helpful.

I was looking forward to my toasted Stilton and mango chutney toastie all morning. It was so awful with NO cheese and just spoonfuls of mango chutney so I left the lot! I thought this had come up again after the wonderful food the previous manager made but it's gone right back down again to when it first opened under new management. It was nearly empty. It lacks style and feels bare. The chairs are awful, obviously bought from a job lot wedding fare. Re vamp this and get a decent cheif. I will not return or recommend.

Living nearby, I have had the misfortune to go to this place for a year now. While the food is standard for a tea room, the service is amongst the worst I have ever experienced. It takes an age for one of the waitresses to catch your eye. Often I go there, wait 15 minutes and then leave. Very unprofessional place. As for the sandwich shop next door - arrogant staff and the sandwich ingredients are seldom there. Danbury could do with some competition as this place only survives because of its monopoly. They've become complacent. Advise trying one of the tea rooms in Maldon to anyone reading this.

Very fresh and tasty food with plenty on the plate. My Mum and I visited this tea shop that changed hands about 3 years ago. We went on Bank Holiday Monday end of May and we're told straight away that there would be a half hour wait for food. The team room was busy with couples and families of all ages and both of us ordered a tuna nicoise salad that came with a choice of bread. We waited around 20 to 25 mins in total and the plates came up full of fresh salad with a decent portion of tuna, black olives, large capers, crisp green lettuce, cherry tomatoes, cucumber and a separate pots of mustard salad dressing and homemade coleslaw, with granary bread and butter. The whole plateful was very fresh and tasty and we'll worth the £8.25. Coffees were £2 each. Other plates of food that people had ordered were brimming too. Very generous portions. We will return again. No meanness there at all. No wonder it was popular.

I have been here twice and both visits have been good...but could have been better. The food is very good, and is served on old fashioned crockery, afternoon tea is very filling! However the first time we visited, we requested a refill on teas...this literally meant they just put more hot water in the teapot (no new tea bag). They also offered my dad a refill on his coffee. Only to be then told by a manager that the waitress shouldn't have allowed this but she would honour this one (we didn't need to know this, it was no fault of our own and should have just been addressed with the waitress). Second time we reserved a table a day in advance for afternoon tea, and it took over half an hour to get our food. We weren't in a rush so this was fine, but seeing as we'd prebooked, surely this could have been quicker. Although this time we did get a proper tea refill!Anyway, only minor points on otherwise a good couple of visits.

We had been here a couple of years ago and enjoyed it so thought coming back on Mother's Day would be a good idea. The food was nice.. when it arrived. We were there for afternoon tea but there's no actual afternoon tea menu and it was an effort to find out what we could actually have- half the sandwiches on the main menu arnt available for afternoon tea, and there's no list of cake, you have to specifically ask.We waited at least 20 mins for our teas to arrive and we waited 45 mins from when we ordered for our afternoon tea to arrive! Others came in after us (after much standing around waiting for the tables they had booked) and got their afternoon tea much quicker than us so seems maybe we were unlucky...Scones were really cold but staff were happy to heat them. The sandwiches and cakes were nice but the service was just very slow and it felt like no one was in charge of our table, and there was a general feeling of disorganisation. We went to ask for the bill as felt we could have waited ages for anyone to notice we had finished.Luckily my mum is easy going and just appreciated being taking out but we certainly won't be returning or recommending this place anymore.

As a local I use Tea on the Green sparingly. It's cosy and quaint and perfect for village needs, but always packed. Our table was sticky and service was slow but the food is worth it. Most food ordered on the menu is always fresh delicious and well presented. Many friends have commented that they wish the breakfasts had non- veggie options - however this doesnt bother me if its the cafe's aesthetic. Bit pricey bit perhaps venture further to the coast at maldon or heybridge where the tearooms are fantastic. On this occasion our service was slow for a weekday - unusual considering this cafe actually has a waitlist of local girls who want to work there. I thoroughly commend their range of food and teas.

Called in for a quick cup of tea and a piece of cake before going on to an appointment in the locality. Only two other customers in the place, so I expected decent service. The ladies serving seemed friendly enough, but were definitely more interested in chatting to each other rather than paying attention to the customers orders. It is a basic expectation that, in a tea room, the customer will get the piece of cake served with the tea, and not 10 minutes later with the lame excuse 'we got the orders mixed up'. That would be forgiveable in a busy restaurant, but when there are only two customers it seems incompetent and unprofessional. The table was dirty too, with a tea spill from a previous diner. Needless to say, I shan't be hurrying back.

My friend and I popped in for lunch after being recommended. Not an immediate welcome and the waitress seemed a bit flustered that she had customers. After being seated she took ages to take our order even though it wasn't busy. She became very agitated when we started to tell her our order because she told us we were talking too fast! Very strange experience as we felt it was all a bit too much for her. The food was ok but nothing special, think they have far too much on the menu, quantity rather than quality. When we tried to include a tip on the bill she told us she couldn't do that, wasn't allowed so they missed out! Won't be rushing back and won't recommend to other friends.

Certainly the best coffee shop in the area situated in Danbury overlooking the picturesque village green. All the food is made to order and to the customers request, delicious homemade cakes, perfect Cappuccino with real chocolate added and Milk Shakes to die for - my Granddaughters favourite. The staff are lovely being both friendly and efficient. To avoid disappointment it is essentially to book lunch times as it is very popular with both locals and visitors. I can't recommend 'Tea on the Green' highly enough. Regular customer.

We have been several times now and never disappointed. There is a nice cosy atmosphere and the service is great and friendly. Have tried to order differently each time and always delighted with the presentation and taste.. The prices are also very reasonable.

The Tea Room is in a very pretty location with parking. The menu very good and interesting. The food decently presented and good. The staff very friendly but extremely laid back in attending to the customers. We were not served quickly at all and yet there were only 4 other customers at the time. The floor could have looked cleaner. I will try it again but we were dying for a coffee having driven 150 miles but it all was Very slow for no apparent reason. Liven up girls.!!!

Nice inside and service was good. Went for breakfast and had bagel with scrambled egg and bacon, bagel was soggy and far too much bacon which was over cooked, coffee was nice and my friends scrambled egg and smoked salmon she enjoyed, won't hurry back.

Been here 3 separate times now, the food is so fresh and tasty. Presentation is always perfect and plenty of variety, at a very reasonable price. Staff are so friendly and welcoming, nothing is ever a problem. Atmosphere is so nice you can sit inside or out the front overlooking the green. Keep it up ladies, lovely place to escape to.

We used to visit here quite a lot but recently the place has gone downhill. The floor needed cleaning, the service was slow (member of staff chatted and we had to wait ages to have our order taken) and the quality of the food not great.

Nice location at Eves Corner, Danbury, with the green and pond to the front. Parking is good with small car park to the front and parking to the rear.Good quality food at reasonable price. One problem is that it is cash only, no cards accepted.Staff pleasant and helpful.

We visited last year just after the new owners took over and found it not to the same award winning standard of the previous owners. We left it some time to hope these were just initial teething problems.Unfortunately it hasn't improved.Sandwiches were good and tasty but the restaurant lacks the character the former owners had created and service in a almost empty place was very slow. 30 minutes from order to get our sandwiches!£18 for two sandwiches, one tea and one cold drink deserves more in return. It's a pity but the place is only OK but nothing more.

A nice stop when exploring the Danbury area, pleasant surroundings and some unusual sandwiches, well worth a "pop in" when in the area.

Fortunately I booked a table as it was very busy and half term week. We had tea excellent selection and a large scone and jam delicious. The tearoom is very pleasant and tables just far enough away from each other. There was no pressure to leave once we had finished and the staff were helpful and friendly. I shall be returning!

Beautiful afternoon tea - great choice of sandwiches, warm stones with clotted cream and local jam and huge slices of cake. Also worth trying their lunch menu - great choice and good value for money. Helpful staff and never hurried

I recently returned to this fabulous little tea shop which has got even better since I last visited. The new owner has introduced an improved menu, beautiful decor & super comfy shabby chic chairs, which I would normally expect to find in an expensive bar in London! The menu now has many healthy options, including breakfast & allergy friendly alternatives. The gluten free bread & cake were scrummy. I was relieved to see the sugar in sachets as it is much more hygienic than cubes on the table. The service was friendly, warm & very helpful. Everything is cooked fresh by the order and it is clear that the new owner has carefully considered the products & ingredients used as everything was of the highest quality. It was a beautiful sunny day & we enjoyed the new outside seating area. We shall be returning soon & as ever highly recommend Tea on the Green as the best tea shop in the area!

I think this place has potential and it's nice to know that it's family run.We had tea and sandwhiches. The tea was from a tea bag aulthough it was pricey. The sugar was in sachets (not cubes). The service was polite and friendly but a little 'hap hazard' it was busy in there, so this can possibly be excused. We would have liked cake after the sandwhiches but waited too long for a waitress so gave up. The sandwhiches had some pretty carrot displayed in the shape of a flower. The coleslaw was nice but the crisps tasted cheap. There seemed to be a vast array of sandwhiches to choose from (perhaps too many). The cake did look very nice in the display case. The chairs were very large and cumbersome which can make it difficult to get in and out. There were no table clothes or coasters.

Visited a few days ago for the first time in a while. And it is still the case thata) the food is lovely, butb) the service is incredibly slow, for no good professional reason, andc) it is so stuffy inside. They don't apparently have air-con, or windows that open. Even in April, there's condensation on the window and an atmosphere where one wishes an oxygen cannister was near at hand.

On a recent visit we came upon this small tea room. It was absolutely packed with people, we were lucky to find a table. I had a bacon sandwich (superb) and coffee and my wife had a scrambled egg, pumpernickel bread, avocado breakfast affair and a cup of tea, all for £14.45 which I thought quite reasonable. The staff were rushed of their feet, but the service was very quick and the girls were very nippy. Must go again soon!

I had a surprise 70th Birthday Afternoon Tea on the 9th March. It was delightful and the staff were very helpful ensuring we had everything we wanted. We were very well looked after. We had a room to ourselves and it was charming and magical! The sandwiches were fresh and tasty and lots of them. The cakes and scones were delicious. A big thank you to you all at The Secret Garden for making it such a lovely memorable experience.

Food ok. Used here a couple of times just recently and must say that we agree with the other reviewers, it's not as good as it used to be and found the counter staff not very friendly or welcoming, however our waitress was very nice as she always has been each time we has been. Shame as way back it was always a friendly venue, must of changed hands.

Consistently pleasant which is why we come frequently, from food to service to atmosphere. Environment is nice for children, good atmosphere for football. We always enjoy our visits here.

There has been much work done to create this hotel from what was a fairly run down pub about nine years ago I believe. Beautifully decorated both inside and outside and with new fixtures everywhere. Great to find sash windows that work freely, doesn’t happen often when they are not newish like those fitted in the Harvard Inn now. Quality furnishings and clean everywhere. Very comfortable. Good on site parking. Minor niggles: hate foam pillows and a little more selection on the continental breakfast bar would be nice. Sugar lumps don’t go well with cornflakes!. And some butter on the table with a selection of toast would be good. Also some more soft seating for hotel guests.
