Limited menu and gluten free choices. However the GF fish and chips were tasty.Bit surprised to see sachets of mayonnaise/ketchup in a James Martin restaurant. No atmosphere, empty by 9.30 pm and candles left unlit on tables which had been commented on is previous reviews. Not particularly clean or welcoming.

On entrance to the Tavern it was suggested we take a photo of the menu. It was not particularly illuminating, and the letters were a mystery. We had to ask for further clarification. The burger ordered by my partner was more typical of the type of food one might get in a very ordinary pub. He said it didn't taste of much - "it had no suggestion of flavour". My Ploughman's consisted of some small toasted bits of bread with one tiny pat of butter, a below supermarket quality type porkpie that had clearly been cut into quarters a fair bit earlier, artichokes from a jar that tasted as if they had been sitting open in a fridge for a while, three slabs of the same kind of cheddar, a terrine that I thought was supposed to be meat but tasted more like mackerel, piccalilli, nice pickled onions, and tiny cornichons. There was a bit of greenery. A place with the reputation of the Lygon Arms, which we have known to be good in the past, seems to have been cheapened and oversold by recent changes.

The venue was nice and the service was good but the prices were astronomical for every day food. Not value for money in our opinion.

Had fish and chips for lunch which was a huge disappointment, a thin tiny piece of fish and a small portion of overcooked chips. Not worth £22! It was cold inside, lacked any atmosphere and the staff were unhelpful. Just wonder if James Martin has ever set foot in the place!!

Four of us went there for lunch. On being given the menu we chose four items between us, only to be told that three of the items were not available ! I asked for a pint of Guinness only to find that it came out of a tin ! Another asked for a pint of bitter only to be told that the choice was Cider, IPA or Larger…. In total four of us shared one ploughman’s a plate of chicken goujons and three bags of crisps. Plus two glasses of wine, one pint of tinned Guinness and one pint of IPA… When the bill arrived we were shocked £95.16 !!!….for very little indeed. It did include a service charge of 12.5% even though we had to get up every time to ask what was available and to order !!….also each small bag of crisps was £3.00 !!!…. A total scam….someone is having a laugh here. Ps. When we asked why so little on the menu was available the answer was “We are changing suppliers”….get real !!!

Utterly disappointing. The service was almost none existent, server was not in the slightest but personable, not a smile…nothing. We were seated by the cloakroom which wasn’t easy to find except for those sat next to it because we spent the whole time asking ‘are you looking find the toilet?’ to people wandering aimlessly. Menu is very limited. We found out one of the starters we ordered wasn’t available 20 minutes after ordering. No apology. Camembert had to be returned as it wasn’t cooked. No apology. Mains arrived 1h15m later. No apology. The two stars are solely for the food. Bill arrived, apology given. We always leave a tip but didn’t on this occasion. Will not be returning.

Called in whilst exploring Broadway, found the Tavern to be quite busy, but had a suitable table for us and our large dog. Daniel the barman was kept busy, but no one was waiting for service. We had a lovely Hawkstone beer and superb Malbec. Which helped was down a very nice and filling ploughman’s. Not the cheapest place to eat but all food and drink were excellent.

Booked this restaurant as dog friendly and had a dog menu! The food and drinks for us were lovely, even though they were a bit pricey. We ordered the steak and rice for our dog, the portion was big and smelt lovely but the waiter placed the food on the floor and it was roasting hot and our dog could not eat it without burning her nose. It would have been much better if the dogs food was served warm as we had to take it off our dog until it cooled down. The staff and service were very good, its worth a visit if you have a dog that you would like to treat but the drinks are very expensive.

We expected more from our visit to The Tavern while we were staying at the Lygon Arms next door. Our food was fine but nothing more than that. Fish and Chips and Lamb Pie were ok but nothing special. Lacked atmosphere and expensive for what it is. The bottle of English Pinot Noir, however, was delicious

Arrived at the restaurant. Only one server who seemed very rushed. They were also taking orders and making drinks, so everything was extremely slow. We were then told to take a photo of the menu board as they didn’t have table menus. When asked what there gluten-free options were, which we advised the restaurant when booking the table, they said that due to not receiving the gluten free flour they only had one option on the menu which was a ploughman’s lunch. I explained this wasn’t good enough and asked what they could offer instead. They said my wife could look at the lunch menu which again only had one option which was a burger but without a bun. We were then told to go to our table which was looked dirty. We waited about 15mins and no one came and asked for our drink order. The server then appeared and told us the burger wasn’t actually gluten free so the only option was the ploughman’s lunch. We were so disappointed with this as no one called to tell us that they didn’t offer GF that day, because we would’ve found another restaurant. It was my wife’s birthday too which added to the disappointment. We then left the restaurant and explained our disappointment to the server only to be met with a shrug of the shoulders and a goodbye. Just awful service, very basic menu and would never recommend this place. We went to the Broadway hotel opposite and they welcome us in and delivered a wonderful meal with exception service.

The food and service was appalling. Waited 35 minutes for our lunch order to be taken after having to find someone and then waited over an hour for our food to arrive which was pretty much inedible at least the ploughman lunch was. No one came near us the entire to offer any thing. Then they had the audacity to bill us with a service charge which we asked to be removed.

Nice building and service good but £7.25 is enough for a pint without a service charge of 12.5% for someone to bring it to your table . I would recommend you go to the other good pubs in Broadway that charge a fair price .

I booked to eat at the Tavern as a birthday treat for my partner. However I came away seriously disappointed on a number of levels. On confirmation of my booking I mentioned that it was for a birthday - absolutely no mention when we arrived. The limited menu was reduced by 3 dishes - they had run out & this was 7.30 on a Saturday night! We ordered the ploughman's & in our opinion it was overpriced (£20ea) for basically average pub food, as was the wine (£30). The service was slow, despite there only being 3/4 other tables occupied. The place lacked atmosphere & the background music too loud Inc the person fighting with the dishwasher ! The final straw was the 12.5% service charge - they are having a laugh. James Martin you should be ashamed to put your name to this.

Came in for a glass of wine following a lovely walk around Broadway with my family. We had a bottle of red wine and a charcuterie board and I cannot fault the experience. Was served by a gentleman named Roger behind the bar who was nothing but smiles and gave us all a great laugh. He was warm, welcoming and full of reccomendations for things to do whilst in the Cotswolds, his customer service was exemplary which you don’t see much of these days!! Just wanted to highlight this incredible service as it truly made our day to have such a positive experience.

To be clear, we didn’t eat here. We were strolling through Broadway looking for somewhere for a bite to eat on Saturday evening. We liked the simplicity of the menu and fancied sausage and mash. We walked in and my husband politely asked if there was the possibility of a table. The barman took his time to answer and then said they were fully booked. We glanced around, think we saw two tables occupied and the rest free. He obviously didn’t like us or couldn’t be bothered. In any case he was very rude and I would suggest people avoid The Tavern as per reviews on here around about December 2023. There is obviously one person spoiling The Tavern’s reputation and as others have suggested, James Martin should be careful where he puts his name. We found a very warm welcome elsewhere and later walked along and as we thought, the man was standing at the door and it was empty inside so the tables were not reserved as we suspected. This has actually put us off staying at the Lygon Arms too.

Had a lovely meal here made so much better by the amazing bartender Roger. He is a natural born entertainer and can tell he enjoys his job. If it was not for Roger our night out would have been average at best. Give that man a raise

We recently visited Broadway and decided to dine at the Tavern, which we learned is a James Martin restaurant. The tavern has a small, quaint ambiance, and while the menu featured basic dishes like fish and chips and burgers, the food was tasty—albeit a bit pricey for what it offered. Unfortunately, there was a leak in the roof during our visit, and the staff seemed indifferent to our concerns when we reported that our table was soaked. Despite this mishap, we generally had a pleasant experience overall.

Dog friendly pub with a very friendly bar manager. Very good pub menu and be aware there is a discretionary 12.5% service charge....that means its your choice to pay or NOT, a point some earlier reviews did not grasp !

My wife and I visited the pub late afternoon on the Easter weekends Lovely cosy little upmarket pub. Roger , Kalina and Big T ( chef) offer an a friendly , quality and professional service. I read previous reviews comments on pricing , but I may view you get what you pay for and in this respect it was value for me.. guest who are price conscious should ask the prices before ordering ! We enjoyed some lovely red and white wine and fish finger sandwich and sausage & mash , all the food was lovely and reasonably priced. My only criticism is the description of the fish finger sandwich, it’s not really that , but my wife still really enjoyed it. We will definitely return and highly recommend .

Visited last night for an early dinner at 6pm. Tavern was busy but not overcrowded so lovely atmosphere. Two staff on in the bar, both lovely, friendly and chatty. We are both vegetarian and the meal we wanted had been on the lunch board. The chef agreed to cater for our needs no problem. What a fantastic chef he is, our meals were incredible. We could not fault a single thing on the plate, absolutely delicious. Plenty of choice of drinks too, including the lovely hawkstones which we had, along with an earlier bottle of fizz. I have seen plenty of negative reviews on here, people moaning about the price etc, but you get what you pay for, simple as that. We cannot fault anything, fantastic food and service, thankyou. This is one of our favourite places to eat.

We booked for 6 adults and a dog and from the moment we arrived we were all made to feel extremely welcome. The service was exceptional and the food was excellent. We enjoyed a variety of dishes all of which was enjoyed and even Blodwyn, our dog was included. The tavern has a wonderfully relaxed atmosphere and we all thoroughly enjoyed the occasion. Thank you

What a great place, I was eating alone, apart from my dog being with me!. It was a Saturday evening. I had pre-booked a table and when I arrived, the host offered me a great table by the fire. The service was impeccable from the moment I arrived until the moment I left. The atmosphere was brilliant and the open fire was the finishing touch. The menu is advertised on a blackboard, which I thought was very quirky. I took a quick snap on my phone and sat at my table to order. I ordered the 'Ale Braised Beef Cheek', which came with Mash and Veg... It was incredible, the beef just fell apart and complimented with the lovely mash, It was a real hearty meal and I would recommend it to anyone. I will defiantly be back to try it again. The food going to the other tables looked really good and from the comments I overheard, it sounded good. Thanks to the host for welcoming me and my dog.

First time visit. Narrow menu due to the kitchen size. Service from Roger was very good; efficient / friendly. Some dishes appeared to be poor value; charcuterie board £20 (decent quality meats / bread) whilst the hot dog at £16 was fair value and good.

Very expensive drinks plus 12.5% service charge! Visited Saturday evening in February. Two friendly bar staff. Had two rounds of drinks. Two small Sauvignon, one pint of Hawkstone, plus one half of Hawkstone. Total cost £32.51. This includes £3.61 service charge. A pint of Hawkstone was £7.25. James Martin is taking the piss. And a service charge in a bar? Beer and wine was fab, but at that price? Never again.

Loved this spot in Broadway. The fish and chips were fantastic. However, what makes this place the best is Roger. He was the bartender and had the best sense of humor and was very nice. My wife and I went back a second time just to be able to sit at the bar and chat with Roger.

Birthday treat for me usually involves afternoon tea but I had shopping to do. Wahey! Mozzers to the rescue ! I wasn't expecting anything mind-blowing for £12 for two. Cheap n cheerful innit. We often have breakfast here because Wendy and the team are so friendly. WOW ! We got (each) 3 triangle sarnies of prawn mayo, egg mayo and plain hamA pork pieA piece of ginger cake, one of lemon drizzle and one brownieA cheesecake A lovely flat fruit scone with clotted cream and jam Bottomless tea.So impressed with the quality and quantity. All fresh. Couldn't possibly eat it all so had half boxed for later. It was like having 2 on one day as I added chicken, bacon and avo sandwiches to the 2nd sitting. No, it's not the palm court. .but for the money it was amazing. Loved the supermarket radio playing UB40 rat in mi kitchen. Full of sugar and giggly it creased us up.Had to have a lie down in between. Value for money!
