Having visited half a dozen pubs looking for a Saturday night meal without noise, rowdy football fans etc we tried the courtyard at The George. Lovely setting. Quiet and comfortable. A superb spaghetti carbonara and veggie lasagne were perfect and amazing value. All delivered up by a delightful lady from the north east. A perfect evening.

We ate here and the atmosphere was lovely. The staff were really friendly and helpful. The food was basic but nice and there was a good selection to drink.

If I was a teacher writing its end of term report, the words 'could do better' come to mind. This town centre pub is in an attractive old building and part of the larger George Hotel complex. Service is quite haphazard - the time I had to wait for a fairly run-of-the-mill burger was far too long. I got a rather insincere 'sorry for the delay' from the waitress who was somewhat taken aback when I asked for salt and pepper. She retuned with salt in a pot and two tiny sachets of pepper - okay, it's no big deal, but just makes them look rather unprofessional. The burger was fine but, at £12.95, nothing to write home about. This place is borderline between two and three stars, its redeeming feature being the locally produced and well kept Amwell Spring ales on the bar, three to choose from. Had I come here and found national brands on the bar pumps, it would have got two stars.

My husband and I stopped at The Tavern for a quick lunch in the al fresco area. Food was good. First negative point was the dirty table: we asked the waitress to clean it but she only wiped parts of it leaving most of the sticky bits on the surface. The next bad surprise came with the coffee: the cup was embellished by a big lipstick stain! I saw the manager not far away from my table and walked to him to complain. He did offer a refund - that I declined as that was not the point I was trying to make - but was overall unapologetic and impolite, and dismissed me in a pretty rude manner. The last thing you want in times of Covid is to put your lips on an unclean cup, and see a manager care so little for hygiene and for customer's health. Not going back.

I have felt compelled to leave a negative review as the immature Emo barman threw a strop whilst pouring a pint! Grow up! No wonder there are 15 terrible reviews due to rude service. The beer is good though.

The atmosphere at the new Bistro is very welcoming, the staff are excellent and the food is first rate. The hotel is good rooms clean and comfortable. The staff are courteous, helpfull and kind. They have a separate bar food area and will have a fully operational restaurant in the near future when the refurbishment is finished. It is in an excellent centre for visiting any attractions including London and Oxford. We will definitely be returning to the George.

The bar area of The George hotel. Traditional bar but also additional lounge seating area and outside smoking courtyard area. A selection of real ales and ciders are available. A winter plus is a roaring fire and also outdoor heaters.

Spent a pleasant afternoon in the courtyard. After ordering some drinks we decided to have some lunch. We went for the small plates selection, a bit like tapas or meze. The bar was not particularly busy, but the food took 40 minutes to arrive. Having said that, the food was very good, and reasonably priced.

We went into the courtyard on a warm and sunny Saturday in June. The surroundings were pretty but to our surprise the Bistro was only open in the evening. I went into the bar and ordered pretty standard pub grub together with a couple of glasses of wine. The wine was entirely acceptable and the food did what it said on the tin. What made a review worthwhile was the hard work and charm of the young lady who was behind the bar and also serving the food. She made her time stretch so that she appeared to be unhurried but point of fact was doing the work of at least two people. I am ashamed that I did not take her name but she is an asset for this business to treasure.

An unplanned visit when the staff made us feel so welcome. Kat, behind the bar, and her boss, ?Sarah, were superb. Four adults wished to eat but a further 2 adults and 2 children were only meeting us for drinks. Sarah went to great effort to reserve an area in the bar for the eight of us in the bar. Although it was extremely busy Kat was right on the ball taking the orders, serving the drinks and later also the food. Nothing fazed her and I compliment her on her communication skills. The food did not disappoint and before she went off duty Sarah came to ensure all was well for us. Very impressive, and we shall not hesitate to visit again .

I ordered Tapas as starters. The squid was a little undercooked and totally tasteless. The whitebait was almost uncooked the fish being still soft (NOT RIGHT). The burger was passable my two meal companions both had panini's that were "cooked" but cool, cheese being congeled! The girl at the bar just chose to argue rather than help. The bar food is NOT worth the money

This is a lovely old pub with very comfortable seating area in a courtyard outside and the gardens of the castle ruins just out the back. Beers were very good and well kept, only downside was that even on a busy Saturday, there was only one person on duty behind the bar.

The staff are friendly and helpful, when customers have finished with drinks and food and leave tables are cleared and washed ready for someone else to use. The fact that the cafe is always busy speaks for itself

We decided on the spur of the moment to pop in for a meal as we were shopping in Wallingford. We were warmly welcomed and a table was found for us even though it was busy. Our meals were brought through quickly and were perfectly cooked, even my partners steak which he likes VERY rare. We were amazed how large the portions were too. A really nice meal at a good value price. We will be back.

Every time I come to Thame I go here, always amazed at how friendly the staff is. Not to mention a nice flat white. Plenty of seats and right on the Main Street.
