Food poor quality, particular for the cost. The chap who I think may be the manager was grumpy & customer service was non-existent.

I've stopped here overnight a few times for work. Rooms are decent size, but soundproofing isn't the best being an old property above a pub but does get quiet as the night goes on. The food in the restaurant is top notch, breakfast isn't as good, the full english was a let down but the eggs benedict is great, they don't skimp on the hollandaise. The village is a great location too. Good for star gazing on a clear night.

Will start with the positive - staff were really friendly. Food was average but good enough for an evening meal for an overnight work stay. My main issue was I barely slept as you can hear the village clock chiming all throughout the night. The windows need proper double glazing fitted! The room itself was okay, just a shame about the noise.

We were having a meal here for a birthday celebration and made a reservation for nine people. We were already not too impressed that we had to pre-order our meals a week in advance, which meant that we did not know what the soup of the day or pie of the day would be and also ruled us out of having any of the specials. As it turned out there weren't really any specials as the board was blank apart from a soup and some nachos. We arrived on a lovely sunny Saturday lunchtime when Goring itself was packed with people and expected the pub to busy but when we arrived there was no-one in the restaurant. We were shown to our table by a pretty grumpy man and given some water for the table. Our starters arrived as pre-ordered and we had the pork gyros which were really disappointing, the pork which should have been shredded appeared to have come out of a pre-packed meat product and was served on a pretty unappetising pitta bread. With regard to the mains the burgers were pretty dry, and the sausage and mash literally is just that so you need to order a side of vegetables which obviously adds the cost. The tortellini was ok but left an after taste and when it came to the desserts the brownie was hard. We certainly would think again before returning to the Miller of Mansfield, the food is overpriced for what it is, and the pub itself although being a lovely building in a lovely location is certainly being let down by the food.

EDIT: strange night - this is my village pub, and at 4pm, and 8.30pm - a table not making really any noise beyond a usual Friday evening, we're told to leave or keep it down for the "guests". I pointed out "we" are there all the time not the one night. Odd customer service. The bad staff are lovely - the owner isn't so good at this. Plenty pubs in Goring that don't treat people that are paying high prices like that. Yawn.

Third review of this restaurant in a little over a month. First time really good, excellent steak perfectly cooked, great fish and chips. Second time a disaster, run out of steak (at 7pm in the evening) and the fish rather than a complete piece of fish was three bits (apparently the broken bits from the bottom of the box). This time checked they had steak before going, and again it came perfectly cooked. Indeed all the food was very good. The down side was again they had run out of some items so my starter was unavailable and at 7pm in the evening the daily special had all gone. If only they would sort out their stock control so most of the time items promised on the menu are available this would be a 5.

On Monday went here and had an outstanding meal so returned on Thursday as it was my friends’ Wedding Anniversary. So disappointing. They let us have drinks, sit down, peruse the menu, place our order and then ten minutes later announced they had run out of steak. It was a quiet Thursday night how can this have suddenly happened. One of my friends could not find any suitable alternative on the menu (he can’t eat fish) and declined to eat. The other and I chose the Fish and Chips, which on Monday had been a large crispy battered fish with good chips. Clearly they had also run out of whole fish as we were both served with three pieces of broken fish, poorly cooked with sub-standard chips. We complained to the duty manager who grudgingly reduced the bill by just £30 on a total bill of £150. We didn’t really want a discount we wanted a nice meal to celebrate their wedding anniversary, sadly we were badly let down.

Had cooked breakfast here with my son during a walking trip. The food and service were good, and good value. Home made baked beans were excellent. The vegan breakfast needs thought though. On the menu was a vegetarian breakfast, and the vegan version was the same but with no eggs or butter. Yes, it was vegan, and yes, the food there was, was good. But seeing vegan dishes as just other dishes minus some parts isn’t very imaginative. A vegan spread for toast is not hard to find, and given avocado was on the menu elsewhere, a replacement for the eggs wouldn’t be too hard either. If these things could be addressed it would help a lot.

I have been here a few times over the last 15 years when passing through. We enjoyed a three night stay here, with plenty of positives. Not luxurious but a nice spacious room (booking described a 'superior double') and really great breakfast, especially if you love eggs, and staff were very accommodating. It's well positioned for the Thames Path and 7 mins walk to railway station. Sadly no parking, and most is weekday 8-6 max 2 hours, but if you're lucky you'll find free kerbside spaces in the one road we found nearby. Be careful if you need a taxi, they have to come from Wallerford, meaning we were quoted £20plus for a 2 mile trip to a restaurant. Couple of minuses: shower wasn't as hot as you'd want, and shaver plug would have been handy. Not a problem for us, but if you're an early sleeper, be warned that until the pub shuts (10pm Mon to Thu, 11pm otherwise) there's a noticeable amount of crowd burble. Ask for a quiet room..if they exist as it has 13!

Was very hungry when I hiked into Goring. I ordered the ribs, but one rack was tough and undercooked with red bits on, and the second was semi raw and literally bleeding blood. I was so hungry that I couldn't be bothered to complain, chewed off some of the bits that were edible, and pushed the plate aside. What followed is why I haven't given this pub the lowest rating. I mentioned it to the member of staff who table-cleared my plate, and she was aghast when she looked at the state of the ribs. She came back to tell me I was getting a refund (though I hadn't requested one). So in that respect, the Miller redeemed itself. The front-of-house staff were lovely. Also they served Rebellion lager, one of my favourites. There's an art to ribs. First the sourced produce has to be prime. And you can't just stick them in the oven or pan. They need to be pre-slow-cooked over many hours to make them tender.

We were visiting Goring when it was going to be the day of our 40th wedding anniversary. We booked here, it happened to be a Sunday. The starter was over cooked and tasteless (carrot and red onion bhajis) , the roast was awful, just awful. The beef was over cooked and tough, 4 tiny roast potatoes that were over cooked on the outside, cold and tough. The veggies (what little there were of them) were cold, tired and over cooked. The gravy was a thick gloop. No Yorkshire puddings. Had to ask for mustard and horseradish, wasn’t offered anything. When asked if everything was alright we politely said no, it wasn’t! Told them how dissatisfied we were and that it was for such a special occasion. Were offered a free dessert or wine…… really! No thanks was our reply. They took the service charge off the bill and that was all. The staff really weren’t interested and the service from them from start to finish was bad…..

Beware - the pub is no longer what it was. Post-COVID, the landlord unscrupulously kicked out the previous occupants after 8 years of creating what was one of the finest pubs in Oxfordshire. A terrible action that had no regard for the local community, or the years of hard work put in by the former leaseholders. Now essentially a slug and lettuce in a pretty village.

Please do not go to the Miller of Mansfield expecting the amazing food that used to be served there. It is now a VERY ordinary pub with an unimaginative pub menu. Many of their dishes were 'not available ' (on a Saturday evening) and the portions were small. My Thai red chicken curry consisted of nine small pieces of chicken swimming in an artificial tasting sauce with rice and a small pita bread. Very disappointing. The pub itself was half empty - obviously their usual customers had realised how bad it now is. The service was very slow. On the plus side the staff were charming and the place was clean. I’ve created this trip advisor account because I have never eaten such an awful meal. The breads to start were the highlight of the evening. Vegetarian option of risotto as a starter was okay. I couldn’t eat more than the portion because it was overly rich and heavy. Then the ‘burnt onion’ main. Nothing burnt, crispy or tasty about it. It was appalling. Basically a boiled onion with a couple of slices of charred lemon and tomato and a mini aubergine. It is with out a doubt the worst meal I’ve ever had put in from of me, and they charge 20 pounds for it! So I reiterate, do not go if you’re vegetarian because they do not know how to cook for you and obviously don’t want to try.

I'm sorry to say I agree with the 'Poor Value review'. This is a very cute place in a beautiful village but I expected more given it has AA rosettes, is in the Michelin guide, and has won Waitrose restaurant of the year. Maybe I hit a bad day (nowhere can be perfect 100% of the time) as it's clear they make an effort; the presentation of the food was good, the crockery they use is stylish and interestingand the general feel of the place is welcoming. That said; I had a Sunday lunch and found the portion rather small, and still felt hungry after my meal. Overall I found it over cooked, over spiced and overly sweet. I couldn't help feel the apple sauce was from a jar and the roast was served with barely no greens (we had to request them) and so little gravy it all just seemed dry. We requested extra gravy and unbelievably we were charged for it - that I felt was the height of meanness; had it been served with a generous amount of gravy then I would have understood being charged extra but the meal was served with little more than a drizzle.Service erratic and slow and hard to ask for cutlery numerous yes (why serve a pudding and no cutlery!)

The service was excellent, attentive but not intrusive and we were pleased when the young chef on duty came out to ask if we had enjoyed the meal and patiently answered all our questions about how to source various ingredients. The very comfortable chairs doubtless helped us enjoy our afternoon- there was no pressure from the staff for us to move -and we’ll certainly go again in the future

Mary, Nick and Carolyn were fantastic hosts for my special birthday weekend. The rooms are beautiful and individually-styled with lovely, thoughtful features like homemade biscuits and nice pod coffee. My big deep bath was an absolute treat. The food was interesting, delicious and lovingly presented, with perfectly-matching wines. I could not have felt more welcome and pampered and I would recommend the Miller without hesitation for anyone seeking a wonderful and memorable occasion.

First off, really warm welcome by staff, incredibly helpful in choosing wine, offering taster you are really made to feel welcome and not too overbearing wither. Lovely open fires on a cold night, perfect. I ordered fish and chips from the Bar menu after our first bottle and then ordered another bottle for the meal.....well snack should be a better description. It was like eating a heafty fish finger with a cup full of chips and a dollop of Pea Sauce. Courdon Bleu is one thing, but for £12. I expect a little more for my money. But that said, staff are lovely and the wine list has something for everybody. We went to another place and ordered dinner. One thing, they do lovely home flavoured salt and vinegar peanuts that you pay £1.50 for the pleasure of a small Ramekin. If someone is spending £70 on wine and a snack these should be complimentary.

Front of house is a local pub on the high street - so depending when you arrive, you may be better going to your table for drinks. The lime soda for our driver was just sublime - home made cordial!

Popped in for Sunday lunch and a polite member of the bar staff advised that they were fully booked but would check. A very miserable and unfriendly supervisor/ manager appeared who confirmed that the restaurant was full but not even the slightest hint of him offering any form of welcoming comment.

We came to celebrate my partner getting a new job. A nice welcome and shown to our table early evening however after 15 minutes we still had no menus or even an offer of drinks, we had to get up from the table to ask for menus, no apologies given ....but promptly rectified plus wine list. Another wait to order but very friendly staff to take orders.

Ordering fish and chips is a risky business. You can often and easily be disappointed by flaccid batter, greasy fish, portions that leave you feeling sick or having to leave a lot of it behind. But the fish and chips at the bar here is fantastic!

First visit here today. Overall food was nice. Salmon tartare very nice but didn’t get the chicken liver parfait. Very sweet . The roast beef very nice as was the belly pork but portions could have been a bit larger. After part of our table was cleared we were given the desert menu. We then sat there for over 20 minutes while staff passed us numerous times. We had finished our drinks and would have liked pudding but no one seem to be bothered. In the end we asked someone for the bill which arrived in seconds. £200 for Sunday roast for 5 of us. The concept is good as is the food on the whole however the front of house in this occasion really let the place down. Even when we left nobody bothered to say thanks or goodbye or more importantly how was our meal.

We had a very good meal in this "gastro-pub". Pleasant and friendly staff and a good menu. I have to say that the Chicken Liver parfait (new on the menu) was oversweet and with too much sweet chutney and no kind of toast to help counter the richness or sweetness of this dish. The texture was perfect. A sour dough bread roll came at the beginning of the meal, it was excellent. Our other courses were good, especially the Manjari Chocolate custard which was divine. All in all well worth a visit. I just think it's worth mentioning to the maitre d' that correcting his customers on their pronunciation of Ratte Potatoes is not perhaps the wisest move especially as there is debate on this pronunciation - no accent on the e so do we pronounce the final e as if there is - I think not. However, correcting customers on their French pronunciation is, in my view, poor form.

The team made arranging ‘just a quiet lunch with close family’ very special and enjoyable, from my first phone call through to the farewell, warm, human and thoughtful throughout, with ideal food, of great quality and presentation.

What a special place! We were not very hungry so we only had a couple of appetizers and each of us had a dessert. Our server brought us an amuse bouche to start with, of chilled pea mousse, topped with a tiny won-ton with three drops of duck confit. Yummy! I was so impressed with this starter that I cannot recall my appetizer, but I do recall the wonderful chocolate custard (mousse) topped with an orange, salted caramel & sesame tuile, along with a tiny glass of Port. It was so delicious that I went back a second night just for dessert! Milo, one of the bartenders, was a delight and very helpful.

I booked the Miller for a relatively large group (of 20) for Sunday lunch. I told them in advance that we were arriving on a river cruise and so only had limited time. The food started arriving within 5 mins of us sitting down (we pre-ordered). It was all of excellent quality, with superior touches such as amuse bouches. The service was attentive and unobtrusive. On all counts it exceeded our expectations. I'd have no hesitation in recommending the Miller.

We had dinner from the a la carte menu. A good choice was available and all was cooked perfectly and with excellent presentation. The wine list was extensive and gave several relatively good value options. The restaurant area is relatively small so the tables are fairly close together. The service was good and there were always staff to attend, even if a little inexperienced. Overall we had an excellent dining experience and would highly recommend on food quality and value.

I had high hopes for our dinner here knowing that it was a Michelin recommended restaurant and I wasn’t disappointed! It was a superb meal from start to finish and instead of just having my usual two courses, I just had to extend the dining experience by having a dessert too. My starter was Poached Pheasant Egg,Salmon Tartare,Brown Butter and Sourdough Crumpet, a main of Poached Cornish Plaice, Tomato,Spring Onion and Dill Pickles and Chicken Butter Sauce with a grande finale dessert of Cherry Soup, Creme Fraiche, Pannna Cotta and Pistachio.
