Taste of Raj in South Norfolk

Very welcoming staff, delicious food and great service.

Lovely meal, but the portions were small for what they cost. I think that's why more people were getting takeaways.

I can't express my disappointment enough. We were really looking forward to this meal and quite honestly it was bland. How can a jalfrezi be bland?! How is that possible. A jalfrezi is also supposed to be hotter/spicier than a madras - The rice was spicier than this. The dhansak was a major disappointment - being one of our favourites - again bland and flavourless. Most of the food we had consisted of a large amount of sauce and not a lot else. Disappointed, so very disappointed.

We have lived locally for nearly 4 years & tried this restaurant for a takeaway when we first moved in, Was very disappointed with the result, We thought we would give it another go recently, Ordered Veg Biryani (Not much Taste) Pilau Rice (OK) Tarka Dhall (Tasteless, watery not nice), Chana Masalla (Bhaji) ( looked ok but again not much taste) Onion Bhaji (Ok but had much better). In All very disappointed & will not be ordering from there again. Will be going to the spice cottage in Diss in the future.

The best Indian we have all had in a long time. All the dishes we ate were delicious. We will definitely be back. For a 6pm Friday night we was the only ones in the restaurant which we were surprised about, but they were very busy with takeaways.

All curry’s taste the same, lack of flavour, heat and spice. Also not much meat. Naan breads very good.

Lovely restaurant and takeaway. Wonderful food with great gluten free, dairy free and vegetarian options. Unlicensed so take your own alcohol with no corkage to pay. Staff are always very friendly

Very nice food, but small portions and extremely expensive compared to other local Indians. £4.95 for a small portion of rice rather expensive. Will probably go for a takeaway next time, whilst still expensive is a bit more bearable.

Delicious chicken tikka biriani. Service was excellent. Waiters very friendly and helpful. Portions were quite big. Too much for me!

Absolutely cracking curries. We had Bhuna’s and a Chicken Tikka Bakhara which was new on me. Brilliant. Sides rices and breads all good as well. Service great, nice fella and great value. Currently no booze but you can bring your own. You won’t get better.

Pleasant with tasty food, but relatively expensive. No alcohol served on the premises, but diners can bring their own.

On holiday from East London and I think we are used to much more spice -flavour and heat. I wish I had returned my dish but the staff were very welcoming, felt abit bad if I did. My Pathia was so sweet like sugar the Tikka meat had no flavour and looked like it had been added at the last minute. A Vindaloo was so mild and watery the Bhoona just like a lamb stew with no flavour. Such a shame as the staff where very nice and restaurant itself is lovely and clean. Also no alcohol you can take your own this wasnt a problem just giving the heads up

We are regulars here at the Taste Of Raj. The food is always served in good time and super tasty! Nothing is too much trouble for Luther and his team. Always a warm friendly welcome, the staff take the time to remember your name and get to know you. It's what makes this place special. Everyone is welcome, it's a great atmosphere!

This was our first time to visit The Taste of Raj, we were not expecting such a lovely restaurant. Attentive service, great menu choices, and suitable for all palettes. We will be back, hopefully soon.

As always great meal and service

Very good food as we have come to expect from this well-established favourite. However,because of current circumstances with the economy, (ie energy & food companies maintaining profits whilst ripping off consumers/small businesses), the Raj has had to gradually increase prices to cover these costs. Management have also decided to reduce portion sizes: less meat in your dish and, inexplicably, much smaller helpings of rice; (why would you skimp on this cheap belly-filling staple?) Prices are currently at the very top end of what customers are prepared to pay, especially for servings which are becoming so not value for money. However, with very little local competition, we expect the Raj to continue providing decent Indian cooking to South Norfolk for many years to come.

Will definitely recommend for everyone who wants to have a quality food and offcourse taste. Also for those who want to have halal foods, must visit and enjoy the taste. And a very good staff and Manager Rahman. Would love to see you people again and again.

An absolutely brilliant Indian. The curries are unbelievable and so tasty. You take your own drinks in so keeps the cost down. The owner is such a nice man too

We always order a takeaway. But it is rare that we get the correct order, there are always items missing and it spoils the meal. Too expensive to run back credit is offered but this is just bad service. Wont be having take away here anymore.

Best Indian restaurant. They cater for dairy free. The dairy free lamb korma was amazing! Highly recommend!

Foid was lush..restaurant a tad chilly which spoils the atmosphere

I usually sneak in here for cheeky ruby in the week if I’m on my own and can’t be bothered to cook. The dishes here are tasty and well portioned, bursting with flavour and not greasy like other curry houses.

Take away only. We are staying close by for a long weekend and found Taste of Raj. Easy ordering, good freindly service and great food. Nothing to complain about. Keep it up and see you again.

Staff were OK, just busy I think .. we would of liked starter but was put off by the fact all starters and main dishes come out together. It was a Saturday night, so understandably quite noisy. Ambiance was nice though .. a nice table for two out of the way, was very much appreciated. Food was very good, tasty and hot as it should be. Service was quick too.

Lovely food, great service and a lovely atmosphere. Waiting staff were super helpful and everyone was really welcoming. We ordered a LOT but we're able to take it home to have for dinner the next day. Good value for money

We celebrated a 60th birthday alongside family and friends with a gorgeous banquet of numerous and flavoursome dishes from Taste of Raj. Each were enthusiastically enjoyed & remarked upon fondly. Such a friendly greeting always meets you on entry to this great restaurant. The same professionalism is applied on collection of a takeaway too. Highly recommended.

The food was excellent. Having been to many Indian restaurants I have found few that compete. Whilst everyone races about a couple of big names in Norwich I would choose the Taste of Raj any day. The service was great and attentive. The town is small so parking is usually pretty easy (often right outside the building). Not being able to order alcohol on site may seem a downside but there is no challenge on bringing your own so it's not a show stopper. If anything it makes you focus more on the food. This is in my top 3 for Indian food dine in. Don't miss out - give it a try. With regard to wheelchair access, it's an old building, has some narrow access and small steps inside so best to check with them in advance.

Most welcoming and friendly restaurant and staff. I have ordered 2 takeaways now so far and both have been out of this world good. My 12 year old daughter now likes curry thanks to this place. Over the moon I can't wait to come and dine in at this place. Best in area by a long way, food quality and taste incredible. Thank you Stan

Small restaurant in Harleston. Service was a little slow as they were very busy. Food was nice. You can take your own alcohol as they do not have a licence to sell it.

This restaurant is a real gem. The service is second to none. The food is reliably good. People travel for miles to come here. Easily the best Indian restaurant in the area. A feather in Harleston's cap. Their takeaways are excellent.

Came here in the way back from Norwich, were very pleasantly surprised. Considering we stopped off at short notice they booked us straight in for a table for two and provided us with a very good and tasty curly at a very reasonable price. Highly recommended taste of raj

Very friendly and welcoming serving high quality Indian cuisine. Good choice of main dishes from a menu that's not too overpowering but plenty of distinction. Need to bring own alcoholic drinks but not issue with supporting service.

Tried this Indian for the first time Friday. The front of house gentleman was so friendly, helpful and polite. Clearly lots of people use the restaurant regularly as he spoken to many customers on first name terms. We ordered a takeaway and it was ready within 15 minutes. Cosy waiting area, even had a bar in waiting area. Food was lovely!!! We had two chicken dishes and the flavour was incredible! I'm a bit fussy with saagaloo but it was so tasty. Will be back and soon! Hopefully go for an in restaurant meal next time.

Went there last night fri 13th. My wife booked wrong day but they were great and found us a table. Service was top notch . Food was great . Couldn't fault anything . Will defo go back.

Mooie zaak. Super vriendelijke bediening. Heerlijke gerechten. Ze serveren geen alcohol, maar je mag de eigen wijn, bier enz. meenemen. Glazen hebben zij voor je, zonder meer prijs.

We are visiting friends in Strabroke and collected a take away, the food arrived right on time. My wife had a Chicken Biryani, veg sauce and we shared a Chana Sag side dish, I had the mixed starter followed by the Chicken Nepali and Nan bread. The starter was acceptable but the Chana Sag was excellent and the Chicken Nepali was very good ( do request a proper vindaloo if this is what is required). My only issue was the Nan, I ordered the garlic Nan online and I didn't check the receipt but it stated Cheese Nan, either way it didn't taste like a cheese Nan and it was quite small especially priced at £3.25. I make my own nans and these are very cheap to make, my local indian supply a nan bread twice the size for less money! Please do not let the nan issue put you off as the food is very good as is the service. The staff were also very friendly. Certainly worth a visit.

Visited with my brother, sister in law, nephew & mum for my 10 yr old nephew's birthday. From the time we entered to when we left they couldn't have been more welcoming. The food was lovely & hot. Didn't have to wait long for it to come once ordered. They fo have a small selection of English food if you don’t eat Indian food, which I don't but couldn't disappoint my nephew. They haven't sold alcohol here since reopening after lockdown but you can take your own. Your not allowed to take don't drink in as they do sell those. When we were leaving again the staff was very pleasant. I would definately recommend trying here.

Nice enough Indian restaurant. They allowed you to bring your own alcohol and they provided the glasses. It was a Friday night and quite busy, so some of the service was a bit slow. I felt like I didn't have enough elbow room at the table. Some cubes of my "succulent lamb" were a bit chewy and although I chose a medium spicy dish I thought some of the flavours were a bit bland.

Extremely good experience here, visited twice whilst in the area. Food is top quality, but the staff really take the trophy. Customer service is excellent. Will definitely recommend and visit again!

Visiting the area for a couple of days and came across Taste of Raj on google after reading the reviews decided to go for a meal. Absolutely 1st class from the moment you walk through the door, hosting, service and food all faultless, and the best chicken tikka iv ever had.

Sorry to slate a business with a bad review but felt I had to in this instance. Myself and 5 friends went fishing for the week locally and thought we would treat ourselves to a nice curry on our last night. Googled local curry houses this one had fantastic reviews so placed our order and drove down to collect. Well I have to say and everyone agreed it was the worst curry any of us had ever had. It was like processed chicken in a tomato soup. We all had different dishes from Dhansak- chicken tikka balti- chicken vindaloo with the exception of a korma all looked and tasted the same with no trace of any spices. However the one star was for the Naan bread delish……

We had such a delicious meal here whilst on holiday in Suffolk. The waiters were so attentive and really reassuring when asked about dishes suitable for vegans! If I was local I’d definitely come back here for the delicious food, and the friendly service. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

We were visiting the area and found this little gem of a very good Indian Restaurant. We are vegan and the staff catered for our diet very well. They were attentive, informative and really lovely. The curries we ordered were absolutely amazing for taste and authenticity and the prices were very reasonable. I throughly recommend Taste Of Raj and wish we lived nearer!

Really really disappointed this time we've always had such a pleasant experience this time the keema nann dident taste like a keema tasted like plainish mince in an undercooked nann , the lamb madras was very small 7 bits of meat very very disappointed has really put us off of coming here again such a disappointment as we've always enjoyed such lovely food here.

Visiting the area and ordered large selection of food! On time, piping hot and beautifully prepared. We all enjoyed every mouthful. 5 out of 5!

We probably get take away from here every other week and have done for the past three years since moving here. The quality of the food and the service never ceases to impress and is nothing short of outstanding. If you like spicy, try the Lamb Nepali with coconut rice; absolutely delicious. So delicious in fact that I have seldom ever ordered anything else.

I read the reviews, can it really be that good. Well I'm hear to tell you yes it can great food and great service. If you love an Indian Meal you will love this place
