Tap House in Adur

Never done this before - a review based only an impression. But what an impression! Deep breath, this is a longer review than I normally post!.. Just to clarify, we did stop in for a drink before our train back to Londinium. We are looking to move down to Shoreham-by-Sea; and can safely say that we will certainly be paying a visit(s) to the Tap House. Beginnings can be deceptive. Stepping inside the space felt a little cramped and loud, but take that second step. We moved through to nearer the back and two seats perfect for a Capp and a G.Beer. It was the couple (D&E) we got to know who confirmed what we were already beginning to realise... the food looks delicious (E confirmed this enthusiastically) and the service is perfect! Okay done. We WILL be back!

I've been here a few times this year, the first time we shared some small plates and the food and atmosphere was nice. I went for a roast on mothers day and the gravy was delicious, no crackling with the pork which I was happy with because I feel its overrated. I went with my son today and ordered a kids burger and an adults chicken burger. The burger inside the larger bun was the same size as the child's portion. I mentioned this to the waitress, she offered no alternative and seemed a bit rude and had an attitude. Apparently that's the portion size. I told her that I wouldn't order it again and it said to leave a review at the bottom of the receipt which is why I'm doing so. I'd say if you're after a chicken burger then it's better to order the kids portion and pay half the price. The burger was average at best but I could barely taste it as there was so much bread. It came to £26 for an adult and a child's burger and chips, and two lime and soda waters that cost £1 each, Is that good value for money?

Buzzy, atmosphere, delicious food, friendly attentive front of house staff (the lady with big glasses was particularly lovely) and live music. Delicious mussels and steak well presented and promptly served. We had a evening here and will definitely go back - thank you!

Amazing food) drink etc. but honestly, if this pub wasn't ran by the main guy Stu then I wouldn't come again and again. His respect and respect for his team and the customers are what it's all about.

Popped in while passing for a drink and ended up having a Sunday roast and pudding,great atmosphere and welcome from the team,food fabulous,,we will be back.

Visited for lunch today after recently moving to the area and was super impressed! We came with our dog and were made to feel very welcome, happily getting him some water for his travel bowl. We had the chicken burgers and fries with onion rings and they were so tasty. Great service and came over to ask if we would like drinks. See you again soon :)

An absolutely lovely lunch today for my birthday with family, front of house just lovely, polite, attentive and my roast was really good, so credit where credit is due to both front of house and the Chefs. Great venue, so cosy, great playlist playing in the background, I haven’t been in the Tap House for a while but I will make sure I’ll be in again soon. Thanks guys, great job. Xxx how you deliver that quality in that tiny tiny tiny kitchen is beyond me. (being a chef myself!)

Such a lovely place. Friendly staff and always feel very welcome. Tried one of the specials tonight; Chicken, bacon and mushroom pithivier. Absolutely delicious. The food is always great. I can highly recommend The Tap House

Didn't realise it was open until we saw a customer by the window inside! However, a warm welcome, good beers and exception 'Lite Bites': the pig's cheek dish was nothing short of fantastic! Comfortable, plenty of elbow room, and decent loos - not always a given in pubs to be frank

One of the more 'swanky' places in Shoreham, popular with couples. Quite pricey and not a massive fan of the food but the small plates are good. Watch out for the low ceiling when you enter and leave as I've often banged my head 😂.

Just had a fabulous lunch here on 9th December. Four of us had starters, followed by turkey ballotine, I couldn't finish my pudding. The young lady with plaited hair was nothing short of brilliant and even when I asked for some of their cocktail sticks to take away at the end they could not have been more helpful. I thoroughly recommend

This is more of a bar than a restaurant. It's noisy and you have to order at the bar, so it wasn't what I was expecting. However, the food was absolutely tremendous, both cooked and presented like a high end restaurant, not a bar. We were both pleasantly surprised. The main menu is very small indeed, but this is usually a good sign, and it was. Our waitress (I didn't get her name, but she had glasses and lots of tattoos and was very chatty) was really pleasant and helpful. We had a really nice meal. Tip: if you order cheese and biscuits for dessert, one plate is more than enough for two!

Atmosphere seemed nice but food was overpriced for small portions

Food was beautiful. My parents had cod, wrapped in Parma ham, samphire and sweetcorn puree. I had the chicken ballotine and caramel parfait. All very tasty and perfectly cooked. Staff was really friendly, helpful and efficient. Food atmosphere with not too loud music that allows for conversations. Nicely decorated, good a choice behind the bar. We will definitely return.

Really enjoyed our first visit. Nice spot with in and outside seating. Friendly, efficient staff and an interesting choice on the menu plus burgers. Good range of beers and lagers as well. Big credit to them and service charge is genuinely discretionary.

Very nice, traffic free location in Central Shoreham. Great choice of beers and a nice menu. We shared the small dish, tapas type menu. All well presented and very tasty. Good smooth service. Give it a try.

Food is excellant. No waiter service and food has to be ordered and paid for at bar

Moule were a bit disappointing, too much cream, and balance wasn't right, but friend had fish which was good. Service was great and beer selection ok.

6 of us visited The Tap House yesterday at 4pm for a late lunch. Our waitress was really friendly & efficient. All of us enjoyed our starter & mains & the vegetarian options. Nicest place I have been to since moving to Shoreham 7 months ago. Would definitely go again. Thank you guyz.

As a coeliac I am very careful of where I eat, my friend had booked the tap house and assured me it was ok. Me being super wary as I have been glutened before and been very ill I also called up the day before and checked it was ok. I was assured it was and all the burgers were gf. When we turned up I was told by the barman (later found out it was he manager) that only the beef burger was ok and also that the kitchen wasn’t safe. This wouldn’t have been the worst of it for me (it’s hard enough to eat out as it is) but it was the guys attitude. He was possibly the least understanding person I’ve EVER met since being diagnosed. He basically couldn’t give a crap and couldn’t even look me in the eye. He just wasn’t interested. I was so upset we left and went to the sovereign who are always amazing and very understanding of allergies (it’s not actually an allergy I get so sick if I eat it but it’s easier to say it’s an allergy) The tap house is affiliated with the beach house in Worthing who are always amazing so I expected the same from shoreham. BE AWARE, the manager of the tap house is shockingly bad, coming from a customer service industry I’m shocked how bad it was.

Looked at the menu at the Tap house it looked interesting we started with 3 small plates cauliflower steak, pigs cheek and artichoke soup with crispy egg they were all delicious followed by a portion of mussels full of flavour. We just managed a portion of the dark chocolate tart. The staff were lovely definitely back with friends

Food was very good but a little bit pricy.

Quick pint sitting outside at the front in the sun. Nice pint of real ale. Friendly table service. Food available. Still good, excellent beef burger and chips. Perfect pint of Harveys bitter. Friendly staff. Nice burgers on the Thursday offer day.

We booked here after reading the reviews about some good food and ignored the reviews about not-so happy staff. We were seated inside as no tables left outside. After a while,we asked if we needed to order at the bar as no one came to take an order-drinks or otherwise. The (not busy) lady behind the bar said ‘if you could’! There was table service outside so should have been inside as well. We ordered,I checked she had all our drinks listed (which she did) but they still forgot one of the drinks and we had to ask for it. The food was average. I ordered the jalapeño and Brie croquettes which were nice and the special of plaice with chorizo. As you can see from the picture a huge amount of chorizo was dumped on the plaice, taking away a lot of the fish’s flavour and looked very messy. I did pass this comment on when the plates were cleared away. Our friends had the squid which they said was rubbery. My husband had a burger which was mediocre. I asked for it with no relish and it arrived-with relish. The service was poor,the staff seemed like they didn’t want to be there and I felt the food was overpriced for what it was. Rarely do we not leave a tip but we didn’t today because our experience was fairly poor. We won’t be returning and wouldn’t recommend the Taphouse to anyone else.

Nice bar, tasty burgers. Great selection of quality alcohol & a good bloody mary. One of the best places in Shoreham. Visited again for a Sunday Roast. Oh wow, so tasty, perfectly cooked exceedingly nice food. Amazing pig in blankets (best ever!) and cauliflower cheese. Go you will love it.

Don't think I'll be back here again for a while. I've had the roasts in here before a few years ago now and they were really good! But went recently for lunch and I ordered a beefburger. It cost £13 (without chips) so was expecting something quite tasty. But it really wasn't very good, tasted like it may have been frozen or something. I think stick to the roasts on a Sunday. Anyway, it's a nice place to sit outside for a drink tho and the staff are friendly.

A great little Bar-Restaurant located not far from the River Adur. It has a decent variety of local beers, ales, and gins. There was a reasonable amount of indoor and outdoor seating for its size. With outdoor seating, it leaves you in a great atmosphere, especially when the sun is shining and the nice cool breeze from the river hits you. The food I had was very tasty and freshly cooked. There's a good mixture of choices of options on the menu depending on your preferences. All of the staff were very friendly and efficient. The number of toilet facilities was fairly limited for both male and females. Overall, everything was fairly priced. I had a pleasant experience on this visit, so I would definitely like to visit again.

Sports pub with good tvs and decent food

Been living in Shoreham for less than 6 months and the Tap House is already a firm favourite for me & my family & friends. Fabulous roasts, amazing small plates and a stellar drink selection, can’t fault them and I’m looking forward to many more visits.

Excellent roast dinner and great service. The home made fudge with the bill was a nice touch. Highly recommend for food and drink.

Absolutely delish roast with one of the best gravies I’ve ever tried! Little bit of a wait in the restaurant but no worries as it was noticeably busy.

This place is genuinely great for any sociable occasion. Personally for me it ticked all the boxes of kick starting a beginning of the weekend and Spring. Wish there was more of it, but at least I know where to begin in the future ✅

Absolutely brilliant food was so good we had 5 sharing plates all delish. Atmosphere great staff all really friendly and super helpfull. Would definately recommend.

We were there for an early lunch so it took a little longer to get our food. When it arrived it was a very nice burger. Could do with a more extensive menu

Lovely little pub. Was very busy and very popular in shoreham. I would recommend to reserve a seat if you which to eat also go early if you would like a drink. Staff where friendly and quick. I would recommend a visit.

Friendly service and a good selection of food, Ales and Gin’s. We have been here a few times when we have been visiting the area and we have always enjoyed it. Highly recommended.

I had thai mussels here sitting outside a while back which were very nice but also came here for drinks last weekend. Nice cosy atmosphere, beer selection is okay (bedlam, harveys). Would be a 4 star but for the toilets. Only a single cubicle for each gender. The pub is big enough to accommodate better facilities

Held my 50th birthday party at the Tap House on Saturday. It was a much larger turn out than expected but many thanks to Stuart and the team for the food and service and for making us all feel welcomed .

We were thinking of going to either the beach house or tap house we went to the tap expecting the usual pub food ( burgers etc) so we were pleasantly surprised by the menu. 100% recommend going, nice friendly staff, excellent food, good value for money

What a Super local bar/restaurant ...Alfresco Dining with very good service, delicious food.

A really lovely space to enjoy a great range of G&Ts and the best fish cakes and cheesy fries! Can't wait to return and try the chorizo & cheese croquettes that our lovely waitress recommended!

Food was ok. Menu very limited and quite expensive for what it is, music way too loud for a week day lunch time and the barman could do with smiling every now and again!

Had a very nice pub lunch and pint of bitter after cycling the Downs Link to Shoreham. Sat outside next to the pedestrian area. Waitress service. Food looked ordinary but tasted great (could be the cycling appetite). The beer was very good (could be the cycling thirst). The price was reasonable.

We tried the burgers and onion rings with 1x beer each. This came up £40 ish. Beer came up to £5/5.5. The menu is simple and the chef special on a board. Pricing is clear. The service is only at the bar, I believe. We did not get table service only when the food was brought out. Payment is an immediate requirement. I am not sure if service charge is included - i did not see a tip jar. They were decent - thick patte burgers. Plenty of sauce provided as well. We liked the seeded buns. Toilets were small - but spotless. It was a nice place.

We had a perfectly done roast beef for Sunday dinner. Two guitarists played perfect 1940s/50s guitar tunes. Very enjoyable afternoon.

Very friendly but service wasn’t good , had to wait ages for food order to be taken, once we had finished they took our plates away and didn’t ask if we wanted the desert menu or coffee, we had to ask them!, but they didn’t have decaf coffee which isn’t good for a restaurant!, so we left and went two doors away to the patisserie for coffee+ it was warmer in there!!

We came here on Sunday and we were all just so impressed! Staff so attentive & friendly - lots of smiles & went the extra mile for us to have a great time. Food was so tasty, fresh and portion sizes really good. They even let our mains hold off whilst we had a break after our starters. People mentioned expensive but we are from London and thought the wine was extremely reasonable, just over £20 for a bottle of really lovely wine! Cocktails very decently priced and so tasty. Overall we just had a lovely time, the decor is stunning too - we can’t wait to be back. Big thank you to all the staff!

A first time visit for our weekly lunch jaunt. We found the staff extremely friendly and helpful , great selection of beers and a very enjoyable Prosecco. The food was obviously freshly prepared and waiting time was very reasonable. all courses were very good and plentiful, good wine choices, we enjoyed a Picpoul de Pinet. The prices are good for the quality of the food and drink. A great experience and a must to revisit

The mussels were good but the service not amazing, they brought a starter and we were for more than 45min waiting for the mains when they came to tell us that they had ran out of one of our choices 🤦🏻‍♀️

It was a wet & stormy Sunday and went to seek refuge and a cheeky tipple. Lovely waiter invited us in and made us all feel welcome even our two little pooches. All the staff were kind & accommodating and let us have a table in the corner at the back as one of our dogs is still young and a little energetic. Didn’t get the young waiters name but he was brilliant with our boys and gave them some treats to keep them quiet. Have never eaten here but will be coming back in the near future for sure! What a lovely place and atmosphere!

We had mussels and to say they were tiny is an understatement. I told the waitress who spoke to the chef. The reaponse was thy were fresh today. Still got charged for 2 portions of mussels. Spent over £30. Total waste of money. Dont normally write reviews but if you are thinking about having mussels dont bother

One of the best burgers I’ve ever eaten (Smoky Bacon cheeseburger)! Staff is super friendly and does a great job, if you’re in town, worth the stop!

Pretty disapointing, now I'm no CAMERA member but it's nice to get a full pint when you order a pint, the Harvey's was good even if the measure was short! And the service was poor 😖

Wow, how amazing is this place. 10/10 for everything from friendly staff, fabulous/tasty & good quality food. The wine was fantastic & you will not be disappointed with both the food & drinks menu. There is something for everyone here & a wonderful choice for vegetarians. This is a top place to visit with family/friends etc so don’t delay & book today. Thanks for a brilliant time. Your hard work really does pay off.
