Always the best food and prompt service, lovely staff. Truly delicious. I highly recommend The Taj of India for authentic cuisine.

We've not had a decent Indian curry in a while, and this did not disappoint. They adapted my curry for me, and the flavours were just amazing.

Was a lovely meal and the staff were so nice and welcoming and even gave me a free drink !! Definitely recommend for date night.

The service was excellent and the meals were a solid triumph! I've not had such a topnotch Indian meal for a long time and we'll definitely be returning tomorrow night for the penultimate night of our holiday.

We had a lovely meal at the Taj this evening. Two couples, pappadoms, main, rice and curry for less than £100 (plus drinks). Really tasty and the naan bread was particularly nice, very light. Will go back again for rhe sizzling mixed tandoori grill.

Thank you everyone at Taj of India for a great 73rd birthday! We were happy to see you, our fifth time in our three years of travel. The service is always impeccable. The food is always freshly prepared and delectable: perfectly spiced and seasoned. Thank you for the outstanding appetizer plate. Every dish was wonderful! Hope we are able to return to England next year!

For the third year in a row, we celebrated my wife's birthday here! The staff is wonderful, such personal service! The chef made a special appetizer plate.... They have a great banquet dinner on Monday and Thursdays. We will miss everyone when we return to the US.

Overnight in Newbury. On my own. Fancied a curry. Not disappointed. All dishes excellent, well cooked and very tasty. Certainly recommend. Wish I lived closer!

Came here after a recommendation as am new to the area, first of all wasn’t busy at all and was given a dirty high chair, it was around 7pm and they had no mango chutney left immediately put of straight away as what curry house doesn’t have any mango chutney left at 7pm?! Food came out and was delivered to the wrong table, it was only us and another couple in there. Food was flavourless, won’t be visiting again.

This is one of our favourite curry houses in Newbury. The Goan fish curry is excellent! The service is very friendly and they always make us feel welcome.

Visited Sat 24th with husband and cannot recommend enough. Lovely poppadums (masala) and fresh dips. Mushroom starter delicious, fab offerings for veggie husband and myself. Really enjoyed the chicken main and veggie sides - dhal and paneer - we normally take containers home but this was so delicious we cleared our plates! Will be back. Waiting staff also good, attentive and friendly. Park in the Kennet Centre til 11.00pm or council car park near library.

Indian food not being my favourite but the food here is great. We had a couple of hours to waste in Newbury. Whilst walking past with our dog asked if we could bring the dog in and eat. They said yes and I think I had the best Indian meal ever. Lovely place.

Came here after seeing it high rating on Trip Advisor. It was very empty for a Friday evening. Service was good. Food was average. Menu was pared down from the one advertised on line which was a shame. We had to ask for more drinks. After we had finished we were ignored for half an hour despite being only one of 2 tables left. No desert was offered or further drinks when I had seen previous tables offered a complimentary aperitifs. It was like they wanted us to go despite it only being 9.45. Because of this I would not return.

The food was OUTSTANDING we had three main dishes which were all excellent my fav was the Nawabi Chicken. We eat out often but this was the nicest Indian food we had tried in 20+ years Please try it!

We dropped in during a canal boat trip. Really fresh dishes and great value. We took advantage of the Monday Special which offered a starter, main, side and bread or rice for under £14.00 per head. The food was excellent and the service was also great.

Amazing food, great service and a friendly welcome. The samosa chat is to die for. The vegie menu is not huge but they will prepare anything you ask for. We will definitely be back.

Me and my girlfriend have been 3 times now, each time it has been very quiet and I don’t know why!!!!! The service is second to none they are always smiling and giving us great input into what to order I was recommended the Nawabi Chicken which is a nutty and creamy curry, not something I would usually go for however it is so nice. This is the only curry house in Newbury we will be going to again, the price is also very fair and the restaurant is very clean, tidy and there’s even a mini statue of an elephant. Garlic naan and rice was very nice get yourself down there.

Just one word excellent food . One of the best food in Newbury ever. I will come again .Chicken xacuti was fantastic I will try again.

Cannot believe this restaurant has over 140 excellent reviews.unless it's recently been taken over.me and 2 friend visited this restaurant on a Wednesday evening.we were the only people in there.which set.off alarm bells but we persevered.big mistake.starters terrible.I ordered chicken balti that was just about passable.my 2 friends ordered chicken tikka masala..They said chicken was.strange texture .when we paid the bill .we was owed £6 which we had to go and ask for.They had no intention of giving it us.The one star was for the naan bread that were quite nice.

Food was awesome.actually i am not from Newbury and some of my friends invited me in Newbury.we suddenly went to this restaurant and i was surprised the food was real indian food and chicken xacuti was fantastic.I will come back Newbury to that restaurant again.

Food not bad but price of non alcoholic drinks diabolical. Charged £3.95 for a small water....just on that basis alone I will never return to this restaurant

Salad was the best salad I've ever had, stunning and good chapatis. Lemon fish starter amazing. The rest was awful. Lamb kebab disgusting and I wanted a dry chicken shashlik. The telephonist asked the cook for dry dish and he recommended chilli chicken. It came in a thick sauce that was so sweet it was like eating a dessert. The complete opposite of what I'd asked for. They also charged more than said menu. Not happy. 28.10.2023. I am reviewing again as we got a take out tonight and it was the best Indian I have had in a very long time, couldn't fault it. We had chicken handi and chicken shashlik which wer delicious. The thinnest frshes chapattis and the best saag Baji ever! So impressed and I will order again and hope I'm not disappointed. A delightful spot with an authentic Indian kitchen. While I'm not typically a fan of Indian cuisine, the dishes here far surpassed anything I could cook. I highly recommend this place to anyone who enjoys Indian food - they offer both meat and vegetarian options. While it's not the cheapest (a starter, main, and two beers cost around £30), the quality of the food makes it well worth the price.

I have been to this restaurant several times and the food is excellent and very original. The service was spot on and very quick with very polite waiters. I spoke with the owner who told me he had been in Newbury for 33 years and also has another restaurant. If you want a very good curry and accompaniments then this has to be the place in Newbury

Lovely place been meaning to come for some time finally managed to come tonight. Service good and food was served hot very tasty the dish we ordered was too hot for my partner but the manager changed it without any questions for something milder nothing to much trouble.

Came here for the races turned up not booked they made room for me and my wife and the service and food was second to none

Impressive. Absolutely outstanding food. I enjoyed the garlic chicken with mushroom rice, and my partner had the keema rice and a lamb dish which was aptly lean and tender. Hot, tasty, good portions. Peshwari naan - also incredible - the best naan I've had in Newbury and this is the forth curry place I've been to. The service was excellent: the manager has a real passion for his business and is suitably hospitable to his guests. It was a relaxed atmosphere and the dining area is very clean. Delighted to have gone here this Friday evening. Please do visit - it's a fantastic restaurant to support.

After a few recommendations i decided to give the taj a whirl and wow! So glad i did. The food was like a breath of fresh air compared to the usual I’ve been used to.. curries tasted they were made with love and authenticity ! Great portions and wonderful spice throughout each dish ! It was like going back to India ! Staff are lovely kind and will definitely return .. 5 star

Table at 8, still hadn't been asked about drinks 50 minutes later! Finally had our food at 10pm - no offer of money off or apologies. Food when arrived was OK. Won't go back.

Booked for 8pm . . no drinks order taken until 845pm (only when requested) . . meal order taken at 9pm . . still waiting now at 940pm . . very understaffed and disorganised . . let’s hope the food actually makes up for it when it arrives . . that is if we actually get served before it closes!

Busy popular restaurant, food and service where first class and lovely staff well worth a visit

The food at this restaurant was nothing short of exceptional. Bursting with flavour and authenticity, each dish was a celebration of Indian cuisine. What impressed me the most was that everything was cooked to order. One unique aspect of this restaurant was the chef's interaction with the diners. Routinely making his way to the front of the house, he checked on each table to ensure that we were happy This personal touch created a connection between the kitchen and the diners, making us feel appreciated and valued as guests.

I went for a meal with my husband and kids, the food was impeccable. We had a king prawn moli, chicken xacuti and 2 chicken masalas with some rices and naans. The food was fresh and flavour would highly recommend coming here, the best in Newbury. Also a big thanks to our waitress Rima and our waiter Abraham for the lovely service. Will definitely be coming back soon.

While walking past I saw a giant RAT run out of the kitchen. They keep their kitchen door open all day, next to a bunch of bins no less, which will let all sorts of rodents and bugs inside. I’ve never eaten here but after seeing the appalling hygiene I know I never will.

It rates as the worst curry in Newbury portions terrible, frozen vegetables in the veg curry, dansak tasted like tinned tomatoes with no taste and the Nan had be warmed Terrible will definitely not go back. 🤦‍♂️😡

Excellent authentic Indian food. Lovely service. The chef even came out to see what we thought and told us everything is cooked fresh every day. Not expensive excellent value for money and the nice table cloths and napkins just make it a bit more special.

About 35 staff members attended the Xmas work function and I was concerned how they were going to manage us all. Well I needn’t have been worried, the food and the service was first class. Drinks flowing and certainly attentive to every need. Would definitely come here again in a heartbeat.

Ambiance- is too small Food - Food is average but for if you're willing to mend your dish with Salt,spice, crispy or so. Chef is helpful he listen to your need. DRINK- Serverd in very basic form even glasses 🥂 I use at home are more appealing. But, if you're new to Indian cuisine and need to go on budget this is Good.

went on 05/06/22 and it was extermely poor. we were the first two to arrive so we was rushed to a window seat to make it look busy, handed us the menu and wasn't interested in talking with us. others came in and they were sat down, told about the menu and told anything they wanted making then they would make it for them, even gave them extra large rice to make them happy meanwhile we sat ignored. ultimately we paid £59.15 for two people to be treated like we wasn't meant to be there. ultimate topping was when my partner asked for the desert menu and instead was handed the bill and told - its raining outside. overall poor service and poor food.

The best chicken tikka masala we have ever had. Truly authentic Indian cuisine. Oli the owner was a joy to speak with. If you do visit and meet Oli you will appreciate his sincerity.
