Bengal Spice in West Berkshire

Foods normally great but service has downhill massively. No longer deliver, they use deliveroo. Charge a huge amount more per main dish, don't offer the poppadoms with the main and no longer offer the aloo or naan. "It's not our fault" they quote! Greedy like the rest of the Indian takeaways locally!

Recently used bengal spice as we have never been there before and it was perfect, easily the best curry i have had in years. Thankyou bengal spice.

Absolutely ridiculous. I will never go here again. Called to tell them that I asked for king prawn dish and asked for extra prawns and I’ve never seen anything like it. I was basically told there sorry if it’s not to my liking but there’s nothing they can do about it,

Saag paneer which is not even look like saag and tandoori chicken is not tastless and dry straight in bin need my money back..

Just had a takeaway which was very watery had to drain some water off. My husband did not eat his Won't be going back again.

Had trouble getting through on the phone as they were probably very busy. So decided to go down which was fine. Friendly service. Food we ordered was delicious. Will definitely return. 👍

Our go to takeaway which never disappoints! Always collect and the food is delicious every time. We have tried a lot of different dishes and all have been a hit. Price is incredibly reasonable and staff are lovely. 10/10 would recommend

Always great food from Bengal Spice.

Everything was perfectly cooked and not greasy or oily. Lots of lovely indian spices coming through. Naan and chapatti were superb. Had CTM. Chana bhaje (recommended) cauliflower bhaje, Tarka dhal, mush rice, chicken tikka dry, half tandoori chicken (recommended) and madras sauce. We ate the lot Not many places do chana bhaje and these guys do a great one and their tandoori is just the best. Lovely coating flavour and juicy chicken

We have never had a bad takeaway from Bengal Spice! The guys who take the order are friendly and knowledgeable about the food available. The food is always really tasty! You never have to wait long for your food either. Its always a popular place for takeaways!

Very nice food polite on the phone. Delivery can take a while and that means that the food is only warm.

Lovely madras curry my go to shop for a curry

Very disappointed, this is the 3rd time in a row that dishes have been missing from our order. Ordered Tandoori King Prawns £9.95 however only received 5 very tiny prawns, called to complain, and no apology given, only told ‘I don’t know what to say’ and to top it off it was all cold. Certainly won’t be going back!!!

Very bland tasting only 3 pieces of chicken in the curries, nann bread not fully cooked and lacks taste. First time I have tried then and will be last I am afraid back to Pappodom's who has taste. Give a plus the staff are friendly.

Had a takeaway tonight. Decided to try here on a recommendation. Had 1/2 tandoori chicken, dry chicken tikka, chicken balti, mushroom rice, cauliflower Bhaji, saag bhaji, Chana bhaaji, madras sauce, tandoori roti, garlic Nan. He said 45 mins. Was ready for pick in 40. We enjoyed every scrap.. lovely balance of spice and heat. not at all greasy and we finished the absolute lot. Looking forward to that again. Ps the guy taking the orders was very professional and good on the phone. It is a takeaway only so below comments not really applicable.

Since lockdown I have really missed my occasional takeaway and it was worth the wait as last night's was wonderful. I ordered over the phone and paid when it was collected. I stayed outside until it was ready and the order was brought out. I will be back with out a doubt!

Would of given it 5 but thats twice now my order has been wrong, only simply stuff but not worth going back and waiting while your dinner goes cold

Really great takeaway and the food is outstanding. It has a 5 star hygiene rating and is spotless inside. Shame it isn’t a restaurant as they would make a killing I’m sure! Far outweighs any other local Indian takeaway.

Delicious chicken Balti, very fresh and the chicken was cooked perfectly. Would recommend a visit.

We have just moved to Bucklebury and popped in last night to try this takeaway out. Oh my goodness, so impressed! A lovely welcome, scrumptious food and even asked if I wanted them to hold the curry whilst we finished off watching the tennis and cricket finals! Fabulous! This will be our new regular. Lost a star after significant price increases and odd portion sizes. £11 for a dish with 3 King prawns is not really on.

We decided to try this takeaway as a change. They too our order promptly and we arrived to collect. I was impresed by the shop, very clean and tidy. When we got home the food was a real weird collection. The chicken tikka was a box of red sauce with a few lumps of chicken floating around in it. It was a bit of a shock to put it mildly. But the biryani was very good and the associated veg. Curry cold. However the lamb surprise was a delight, I have never had lychees in an indian meal before but they helped to "cut" the fattiness of the lamb. Maybe if we had opened the chicken dish last we might have been more forgiving

We have eaten here for years. Always had really good customer service and normally good food with the odd exception. Until now, we ordered our normal and was advised it would be 30!mins delivery. Satisfied with that we placed our order and waited. After 45 minutes I phoned and was advised it’s very busy and it will be on its way. We received it 90 minutes after the order was placed. At that point we were too hi very to complain until we opened our food. It had been on the side of the counter for all that time as no one was available to deliver and came to us stone cold and lying in grease. When I phoned them back I was advised the manager would call me back. No chance of that. I waited until the following evening and went in to see him. Please bear in mind we live local and ordered here on a weekly basis now. There was no sorry, no compensation or nothing. I was really disappointed and vouched never to go back and would advise people to do the same. Customer service cost nothing, and cold food is not how you treat customers.

I've had a takeaway from here a few times and have been really impressed each time - lovely delicious food, good service and accurate time estimate of when to collect the order (30 mins on a Friday evening). I am a vegetarian and was impressed with the choice on the menu. I opted for the 'Vegetable Karai' and it was fantastic with a variety of vegetables. I would highly recommend this place as the best Indian takeaway in Thatcham, I wish they had a restaurant!

Decided to get a New Year’s Eve take away from here after reading good reviews. Food was pretty basic, meat (lamb) was quite fatty and sauce really oily and balti didn’t have much flavour. It’s ok for a cheap ok ish curry but wouldn’t be in a rush to return. On a positive note the staff were so friendly and welcoming.

My partner and I spontaneously decided to drop by Bengal Spice and were not at all disappointed. Having not phoned ahead but instead ordered on arrival, we were slightly worried that we could have been waiting a while. However, our food took only 20 minutes to appear and when we took it home it was absolutely delicious! Very friendly and quick customer service; tasty and good value curry. We thoroughly recommend the chicken tikka Rogan and bhuna! Thanks Bengal Spice, see you again soon.

Very good starter of Chicken Chatt and meat samosa, main course were very poor, chicken methi, medium hot, no taste or heat/ spice. Tandoori roti like cardboard. Very disappointed should have gone to the Nawab, my mistake not to make again.

Had a fantastic takeaway from here tonight and they even delivered! It was hot, plentiful and they gave us a free portion of bombay potatoes! Always had great food and service from Bengal Spice and will continue to go back!

When we are ordering a takeaway curry this is the best place to order from in the Thatcham area by a country mile. Food has always been tasty and menu is varied. Staff/owner are always friendly so cannot complain and prices are pretty competitive.

Bengal Spice never fails the chicken tikka dansak is without doubt one of the best on the planet......great side dishes and great nans........friendly owner , the amount of people collecting food at weekends say it all.....highly recommended

I actually have no idea how anyone could write a negative review for this place. This is where we go for our Friday night treat and it has never disappointed. The guys are always friendly and it's a nice added touch that they recognise our faces. Our rice was forgotten once and one of the gents actually brought it to our door for us! Whenever we venture away from our usual order slightly, we're still thoroughly impressed. We wouldn't go anywhere else now and we've tried A LOT of Indian takeaways/restaurants. Thanks guys!! I use to love this place but my last two visits have left me dissatisfied. The favour use to be amazing but now my curry has hardy any taste. I spoke to the owner & it turns out the chef who worked there for 10 years has now left. In my opinion the new chef isn't very good. Sadly I will now be looking elsewhere for my takeaways.

After the rave reviews here maybe we were just expecting a little too much from this takeway situated by a residential area in north Thatcham. The naan was good, the rice was fine, but we found the curries themselves disappointing. They weren't terrible, but they were dull with too much rather flavourless sauce and poor quality meat. In addition one curry was too salty (and I *like* my salt, so I wouldn't say that often!) and the Madras was too mild. Service at the counter was friendly and helpful. Sadly (as it would have been convenient for us) I don't think we will be repeat taking-away from here.

I'd been looking forward to trying out this place based on the reviews, but sadly our expectations were not fulfilled. The food was average at best. I went for a speciality and it tasted like it could have been out of a jar. I so wanted this to be better.

Chicken Tikka Balti very good and King Prawn Karai very good and potions of the correct size.Mushroom rice and Naan good.

Returning to Thatcham after several years away, I discovered my favourite takeaway had changed hands and the new fayre was much improved. The tastes and flavours shame many other takeaways! Make a point of trying one of their specials. The Lemon chicken and Achari lamb are full of flavour, not overpowered by pure heat.

Very disappointed in the quality of food we received. All the food was pretty tasteless, lacking in flavour and not even a hint of heat. In particular the Malaysian chicken, it is the worst one I have ever eaten. The chicken was overcooked, the pineapple had a very strange taste to it ( it was very obviously from a tin, am wondering if it had been in some kind of syrup because of the taste) and the sauce was watery and had no flavour to it at all. In short will not be recommending Bengal Spice in Thatcham or ordering from them again in the future.

Recommended to me by someone who used to live in Thatcham. It just does takeaway, but my goodness it does that extremely well! Either delivery or pickup. Highly recommended delicious food which excels! I'm a total convert now and wouldn't consider anywhere else. If ordering at peek times, it can be quicker to phone and pickup rather than deliver since they do get busy but they will let you know!

We were recommended Bengal Spice by a friend who has lived in the Thatcham area longer than us... After trying at least 4 other Indian takeaways in the area I can say without doubt THIS IS THE BEST.We tried some dishes from the "chefs specialities" and were not disappointed, they were delicious. The meat was tender, so much flavor in the gravy, Bombay potato was perfect, keema naan bread was actually full of meat and tasty too.The man who took our order spoke immaculate English, which made it easier to place my order (as a new customer with lots of questions to ask) and was extremely friendly.The delivery was 20 minutes faster than quoted to us - even better!! And arrived HOT.Really impressed, and wanted to share our positive comments :) Thank you Bengal Spice - see you again very soon.

Despite moving to this area over a year ago we have not found a favourite source of Indian food until now. Based on the TA reviews we decided to give The Bengal Spice a try and we were very impressed. All items we ordered had a freshness and subtle flavourings. Not your typical Indian Takeaway. Highly Recommended

We love Bengal! I refuse to eat Indian food from anywhere else as they just don't come close. The guys are great and so friendly too - happy to help you decide if needs be. The food is amazing from here...if you are unsure of where to get your Indian food, you must try Bengal Spice. They also received a 5 star rating on their FSA inspection! The place is always busy - that tells you something.

Arrived to fine the waiting area very busy.Talking to the owner he told us he had a new head chef. Must say was a bit worried that the food may not be the some. After a 25 minutes our food was ready.There was really no need to worry the food was as amazing as ever.Best India takeaway in the whole area.

This place serves consistently great curry's. I have tried most things on the menu and it is all excellent. The value is good and the ingredients are all fresh and tasty. Cant recommend it highly enough. Puts the others in the shade.

We regularly get a Friday night takeaway from Bengal Spice.The dishes are always freshly prepared and the service is always swift.Worth ringing ahead though, especially on Friday and Saturday nights as the cooking time can be lengthy due to it's popularity.

Excellent food .does take time to prepare but that tells you the food is freshly cooked and well worth the wait.I tried the others in the area and this is the best !. Try it yourself. You wont be dissapointed.
