Been a while since we had an Indian take-away so thought we'd get one this evening from the Taj, which was regular for us when we had one. Contrary to some recent reviews we found our meal hot, tasty, filling and a good standard of Indian take way. We also had it delivered and the cost was less that a lot of other delivery options.

Recently had a takeaway from here. Chicken Tikka Jhalfrezi. Chicken Tikka Bhiriani. Samosa starter. Keema naan. All were bland and tasteless. Except for the naan. That was tasty and had a good filling. So disappointed. Both dishes lacked spice and depth of flavour. Lots of the spice layers and flavour profiles were missing. It lacked garam masala, fresh bell peppers. Fresh green chilli's and fresh coriander... But it was still 'bulked up' with the infamous cheap ingredient. The onion. Every other forcefull was a large piece of onion.... I've had more curries than I can count. I've noticed nearly all asian/Bangladeshi houses have lowered the meat content and greatly upped the amount of onions..... watch out for this and speak up curry fans. Its not on. Sadly The New Taj is well overrated. We won't be ordering from here again.

I was disappointed in that I am trying to find a particular sauce that I know comes from this restaurant. I asked for what I thought it was, and was told it was right but when we got it home it was not. The main course was only ok, sadly I thought the sauce was far too thick, although the chicken pieces were very tasty. I will try this restaurant again as the staff were very friendly and it all looked very clean and welcoming.

Take Away - Loyal Taj customer - Taj has a good reputation for good food, decent portions and great customer service. Order a £70 plus takeaway for a special occasion. Very little meat swimming around in loads of watery sauce. Mediocre flavour which is not usual. Dry meat/tough meat in mixed tandoori (£13) most of it left. Complained next morning (too embarrassed to send for back in special occasion). Told that have to return whole takeaway for refund, won't offer compensation voucher, only to state name on next order for an undisclosed discount. Difficult times I appreciate but don't scrimp your customers with bland measly portions and still increase your prices. £3 increase on usual dish, with at least a 3rd less.

Spent over £70 on a takeaway and no complimentary popadums or dips. I asked if we could have some but they refused. Both curry’s were mostly sauce and only 4 pieces of meat in each curry. Disappointed will not return.

First of all, the seating is so tightly packed in we could hardly move in our 'booth'. Very uncomfortable. The food was disappointing. One dish which was a balti was like no other I've had - no vegetables, just chicken and sauce, and it could have been any curry sauce. Two other dishes had that much sugar in them, one could not be eaten. Our bread was burnt and the rice portion sizes were very tiny. We will try another Indian next time.

The Taj has too many tables in too small a space, this makes dining a crushed and uncomfortable experience. The number of customers in the restaurant makes for a clamorous atmosphere that's far from relaxing. Add to this the head from the kitchen... Too hot, too noisy, too cramped. disappointing. Sadly the over-priced food was disappointing in every way too, essentially each dish we had was diced meat in sauce with no hint of vegetables, and the sauces all had the same consistency. To call this 'Indian cuisine' is a lie. It's meat and sauce from a wholesaler, plain as that. Pre-cooked reheated poppadom were 'okay' but the burned and dry Naan bread was certainly not. We also felt that one small bowl of greasy rice between tow was a cop-out... Rice is CHEAP, but at the Taj... Dont expect more than a weak offering. Next issue, the staff.. Running busy from table to table, too many customers, too few staff made for a fast food style evening. No consistency. Summing up then... An over priced disappointment, and a lesson learned. Not going back any time soon... if ever.

A re-visit after a long while, nothing has really changed, which is ok but the food standard has dramatically gone downhill. Popadoms were fresh and the pickles were standard, got suspiciously sold an onion salad which we didn't discuss in the pickle transaction! The split dishes are a great way to have a bit of both. The CTM and the Korma were both so sweet it was like eating jam. The vegi Balti and veg massala were packed with tinned or frozen veg and bulked with potato. The veg massala as the CTM was too sweet and contained very little spice. Garlic naan wasn't puffy but crispy, chips were raw in the middle. It all felt a bit rushed. Messed up the bill too. Pilau rice was excellent tho.

We’ve just had a takeaway from The New Taj. I had a chicken tikka masala and my husband had a chicken Pathia with pilau rice and peshwari naan. The restaurant is only 5 minutes drive from where we are staying in St. Austell. My husband pulled up outside and I went in to collect. We’d called ahead to order the food and within 2 minutes of arriving, our order was ready! The staff were friendly, efficient and the meal was soooo good, and I’m not normally a fan of Indian takeaway, it’s my husbands choice. However if we had a local Indian takeaway as good as this near to where we live, We’d be regulars for both eat in and takeout! LOVED IT!

Was told they would get the order out to us ASAP (they are less than a mile from us), when I asked what asap meant, i was advised we would have to wait another hr, so not prioritising us to make up for the error, just putting us at the end of the order line. When I queried this I was told they would put some poppadoms in by way of apology... hardly a suitable apology in my opinion, and delivered in a pretty unapologetic, couldn't really care less manner. We cancelled our order and went elsewhere.

This evening the family decided to order a large takeaway for five people by collection. A phone call was made at 1737 for the order. We were told the order would be ready for pick up at our chosen time of 1930. 1930 we arrived at the restaurant and were greeted by six people sat waiting for their collection orders and a friendly smartly dressed staff member. The staff member found our order then took payment before giving us a complimentary 1litre bottle of Pepsi. He then told us to take a seat whilst we wait for our order. The staff member then went to the kitchen telling them we had arrived for our order. For the next thirty minutes we watched as the people before us left and more collections arrived; another six people. A stream of around 12 takeaways were brought out from the kitchen and given to the various takeaway delivery drivers. What shocked me most is that the young man at the reception desk was tasked with answering the phone and was lying to customers. The orders were phoned in and the young man would give them to the kitchen staff. Then I started to realise that people were telephoning chasing their deliveries. Around seven times did I witness this, each time the staff member would take the details , place the call on hold, go to the kitchen and ask where the order is. Each time the staff in the kitchen told the receptionist to say it’s “out on delivery, on route, with the driver or being delivered”. This was clearly not the case, as the chefs would then shout for those orders to be prioritised. This was blatant lying to the delivery customers in front of the collection customers. At 20:00hrs I chased my order having waited thirty minutes for it and having had no sign of it coming. A polite reminder to the staff member promoted a reply of “its being prepared I will check it’s progress”. I then heard the staff member order the making of our order by each item being read aloud the other chefs. At 20:10hrs I received our order. Hand brought out by the staff member I spoke to which was appreciated.Upon returning home I found that a sag panir had not been included despite being ordered. I chose not to raise this with the staff as they would not be able to manage this tonight. Missing an item from the order shows a lack of attention and care for the order. This was the sixth time I have used this restaurant and it’s the first time I am disappointed.

We were on Holiday in St Austell and about midweek I really felt like a nice Curry after having a cracking day out.I have never tried having an Indian Curry in Cornwall before so I check out the local reviews online and decided to opt for this one as a lot of People seemed to of like their experience.I went for the Curry Tikka Madras, Pilau Rice with a Coconut Nan Bread, I decided to pick it up as it wasn’t to far from where we were staying, on first inspection of the premises I though I was on a Winner here. It took about 15mins to Cook so that was great. When I got back to the Holiday let, my Wife had already had her Dinner so I just opened up the carton and tucked in, when I opened the Madras Curry there was a slice of Lemon on the top of the Gravy, I’ve had Many Madras Curries before and I have never had a slice of Lemon led on the top! anyway that was fine......until I tasted it, in a nut shell the Madras Curry was very sharp and sour? there was no flavour in the Dish at all? I was really disappointed as I was really Hungry by then, it was a real shame as the Rice and the Nan Bread were both really nice.Would I have a Madras Curry from there again NO! would I go there again NO! definitely not, sorry but nowadays you only get one chance as of all the competition out there.....PS, the last time I had lemon in the Gravy before was when I had a Pathia?

I questioned why it had taken so long when the restaurant was a 3 minute drive away and also said that the food had better be hot! I was assured it would be. My brother brought his new partner down to Cornwall to show her where he grew up. As a family we have been using the Taj Mahal for years. The Taj is a simple but fantastic Indian restaurant. The food is fantastic and the staff are very knowledgable on Indian cuisine and will happily answer any questions or offer recommendations. The Taj still allows you to bring your own alcohol which is brilliant. We took over bottled lagers and a bottle of red and white white to have with dinner. As a table of five our bill came to £91.30, the main dishes are very reasonable and you must try the saag paneer (cheese and spinach). It was loud and bustling on Saturday night but it is much more relaxed and not so boisterous during the week. Overall the Taj is a fantastic family run restaurant with parking outside, happy and fun staff, and great food. Thanks again for your hospitality and making us welcome as always.

Easily the best indian I've ever had. There was plenty of meat in both curries and the lamb was so soft. The service was second to none and everything came out prompt.

We booked a table for 3 adults for 8pm as they didn't have the time we wanted, we arrived at 7:55pm expecting our table to be ready. When we got in there the manager said it would be 5 mins and could we wait out in the garden. 8:10 came and no one came and got us so we asked one of the lads working there and he said I will go ask the manager. In the mean time another worker came and told us that we had to stand and wait for a table to finish there Meal! I went to the manager and told him we were not waiting for the table to finish as I was not going to rush them to finish just so we could sit down, bearing in mind there was loads of other tables free and another group of people stood outside waiting for there table!! Absolutely awful service and I will never go there again!

Whenever we are eating out or even having a takeaway we go here. We love everything about it. The friendly atmosphere, kind staff, and delicious food. We do prefer to eat in. Every time there’s a birthday in the family we book a big table and go here. (They let us decorate with banners, table confetti and balloons which is good as I know some places don’t). Each and every one of us always enjoy our meals. Fair prices, big portions and tastes amazing. Also it’s bring your own alcohol which means no over priced drinks! Highly recommend to go here! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

We called over on a Sunday night, the food and service was what you would expect in an Indian restaurant in this day and age. I was very pleased with the food and the varied flavours. It was nice to see a restaurant promoting its true culture and heritage; Bangladesh food on a very good level.

Amazing food with great customer service! Thank you for the experience. I loved the decor of the restaurant. It had paintings showing different places in Bangladesh, which highlighted some of the positive aspects of the country.

My partner booked a table for four over the phone to celebrate my birthday about a week in advance. Unfortunately our friends had to drop out so my partner phoned them again a few days before to tell them that we would be just two. When we arrived at the restaurant they had no record of the booking, the evening manager said he couldn't do anything unless my partner knew the name of who she spoke to, as if anyone would ask that when booking! She checked the call log on her mobile to make sure she had called the right number, which she had. So be warned, if you book here, make sure to get the name of the person you speak to! Anyway, they couldn't accommodate us so we ended up walking to the Eastern Paradise Indian Restaurant and had a great meal, if I were you I'd go there instead!

We always spend the last evening of our holiday in this restaurant 6 adults and 4 children. Fortunately we are that early that the children do not disturb any other diners. The staff are always accommodating to the children, the food was as good this year as always. We all go for the double dishes so we get lots of different flavors and it is a good way to introduce the children to spiced food, ages 1 to 7. Will be back again.

Used to love this place, was always our first choice Indian restaurant and takeaway but not anymore, after tonight we won’t be returning. Ordered a takeaway that came to £33 on the website, got there to be charged £43 as they have a new menu months ago but haven’t updated the website. Now the extra would have been irrelevant had the curries been piping hot and full of flavours, alas it wasn’t the case.....the curries had no real flavour to them, the bhajis, rice and breads were cold and stale, the chips looked like someone’s left overs so not a good enjoyable meal at all. Thank god the eastern paradise is around as that’s where we will be now heading for all future Indian meals.

Myself, my daughter and some members of my family booked a table at The Taj for a family members birthday. I won’t go in to too much detail regarding each dish but as usual the service was excellent and the waiting staff were so friendly and attentive. The food was a big success and very tasty and all members of the family enjoyed their meals and sides. The restaurant is really clean and well presented and it is fantastic being able to take your own drinks. We took beers and wine and the staff were happy to give us glasses for these. The bill was very reasonable and the evening was extremely enjoyable. Well done Taj Mahal staff, keep up the good work.

Surprisingly good curry. The Chicken Jalfrezi (dry version) and Naga Lamb both recommended by my uncle (who is a regular), were excellent flavourful dishes and the tarka dall didn't disappoint either.

My first time here, and was impressed; I would certainly go again. Good variety of food, some of it different than I have seen in other Indian restaurants, so it was good to try something different and wasn't disappointed. Good sized portions and the staff were friendly and helpful. Someone had told us that you could take your own drink, so went armed with a bottle of wine, think this is a good idea and saves from the huge mark-up usual in restaurants. I also like that you can go out the back to a covered, heated area for a cigarette, which I thought was a nice touch for us smokers.

22 of us attended an Indian Banquet at The Taj 2 weeks ago. The menu choices were varied and excellent. An excellent starter course followed by Tandoori dishes, Tawa dishes, vegetarian dishes and Chef's Specials- out of this world. Service was excellent.

Took over half an hour to even get through to them on the telephone to order food. Was given an hour and 20 mins delivery. Was an hour late. Tried to call after half an hour after the delivery time, took another 20 mins trying to get through then was told it would be here soon then they put the phone down. Cold food arrived. Zero customer service. Will not be ordering from them again and certainly won’t be recommending them. Rubbish service. Treat your local regulars better.

My partner and myself ordered a take away to which we were totally amazed by the generous portions and the quality of the totally delicious meals, the meals were cooked to order with a 20 minute wait, which was totally worth the wait, the restaurant and staff were immaculate, the meals came with complimentary poppadoms. On eating our meals we were definitely not disappointed, everything was cooked to perfection and was extremely tasty,In fact up it was the best Indian takeaway we have ever tasted, we are very lucky to have this discovered this restaurant which is local to us but would greatly recommend this restaurant to everyone, local and visitors and suitable for different social occasions, greatly recommended.

The food here is absolutely delicious, the best Indian food we've had in a long time. To start we shared a sheesh kebab & onion bhajis. The kebab was delicious & the bhajis huge, crispy & tasty. They didn't come with raita so I'd make sure to order some next time. Mains we had chicken tikka biryani & king prawn rasenger. Both were packed with flavour & we thoroughly enjoyed them. The naan is lovely & light. Service was really good & we had a really good evening, will definitely return.

The Monday Banquet is quite a good deal so that might be a good choice for a first visit. It might be advisable to book for a Monday.

Very overpriced, the food is more expensive than London,Surrey & West Sussex Curry Houses. The Onion Bhajis are the worst - imagine having Bhajis the size of a Malteser& no flavour & it will cost £4.50 for the displeasure of eating it. I had the Chicken Tikka Bengal Naga- asked for extra Hot - it was ok,the Waiter was surprised I had eaten it and said they could do it more spicy next time- basically cook what I asked for in the 1st place and did not get.
