Balti King Restaurant in Cornwall, Isles of Scilly

I was really looking forward to a nice curry, I ordered a chicken karahi which was so disappointing, bright red and tasteless definitely wasn’t a Karahi. I’ve had better microwave meals, I might give the restaurant a second chance and try something different

Absolutely awful, overcooked poppadoms cooked in a dirty fryer…the driest chicken leg ever, chicken dupiaza was bland and full of raw onions. Onion bhaji was doughy and inedible…I’ve been a chef for 20 years and this was truly awful….complete waste of money…won’t be returning ever

Went for family meal on the off chance. Amazing Chicken Korma Lush. The staff were so attentitive and very friendly would definitely go back again.

We phoned up last minute to book a table for 2 early on a Saturday night. On arrival we were greeted by the friendly staff and shown to a table just inside. There is more seating towards the back. We were given menus and offered drinks but we had taken our own alcohol as they allow you to bring your own alcohol. We opted for poppadoms to begin and then just went on to main meals, chicken tikka masala and chicken bhuna, we shared a pilau rice and garlic naan bread. All the food was very tasty and served with a smile. A great meal and we will definitely be back the next time we are in the area.

Balti King must be the best Indian takeaway we have had!!! The chicken tikka was absolutely delicious! Tender pieces of chicken, amazing fried rice, crispy popadoms, fresh salad, onion salad, samosas which were full of flavour and delicious yogurt mint dip! We were greeted by the owners when we collected our takeaway with a very warm welcome which was lovely. I can highly recommend this fantastic restaurant/takeaway! Its a must! Thank you Balti King!

Dined here on the recommendation of Joy from the Hayle Premier Inn. I had the King Prawn Biriyani, usually a dhansak or madras type of person tbh so I found it a little plain to my taste but there was so much I had to leave half the rice I’d say. A bit more veg curry would have been welcome. My friend had the Korai Chicken and that was really good. The staff were great and had very good sense of humour, and were very quick with the beers that went down very well.

There very nice by supplying plenty rice the guy whp delivered the samosa was a awsome guy do believe he worked for vosa it was a good plan to order the naan the dip was well worth the trip and the curry was made up on a flurry

Waited around 50 minutes for food when it arrived it didn’t have much flavour instantly felt sick after going and the next day very sick

Went here last year, I was again on holiday in the area so gave it another go. Visited on a Thursday and like last year the premises were very quiet. For most of my visit I was the sole diner. Place is quite big, large rear dining area in a conservatory like structure and the toilets were of a good standard. I had a Sylheti Special as a main ( chicken ) with a sag ponir as a side dish and a garlic naan. Food came out quite quickly, I thought it was tasty and there was plenty for me. Place didnt have much atmosphere because I suppose it was basically empty but I say to readers give this place a go.

September 2024. Enjoyed this so much we went twice in week during our holiday to Cornwall. It's outstanding. Food is piping hot, flavoursome and well presented. Service is impeccable from the moment you enter to the time you leave. Nothing is too much trouble. Established is clean and welcoming. If you like spicy food, you must visit Balti King, but book your table in advance by either phone or their website to avoid disappointment. Parking can be a little tricky but if you park in the Commercial Street carpark next to the library (free after 4pm), it's just a short walk.

We had take away from Balti King in Hayle and it was excellent. Very friendly service when collecting. A word of warning, the Madras sauce is really spicy even for lovers of hot food.

Food was great, best Peshwari Nan I've had in ages. Only gripe was, I expecting the food to be a tad hotter (spice, not temperature). Otherwise, well worth a visit.

There was a good welcome when we walked in the door. It's lovely to be greeted by a smile. Even at 6.30 p.m. the Balti King was busy, but nevertheless, service was good. The food was excellent, but I am glad that I asked for my meal to be "not too spicy."

The food was absolutely vile. It was bland and tasteless. The restaurant has no character and is absolutely boiling hot. A complete waste of time and money.

Our friends have family in Hayle and had always wanted to try Balti King, so it was the first trip for all four of us. We really enjoyed the experience! The service staff is super friendly and simply delightful - we loved their positive energy. They were so sweet with my friend’s 15-month old baby! They patiently answered our questions about the menu and recommended two chicken dishes and one vegetarian dish that we all really enjoyed. The papadam was light and crisp, and served with four spreads that were all different and wonderful. And no corkage fee for the bottle of wine that we brought - when does that happen anymore? Rarely, from our experience. If we’re ever back in Hayle, we’ll definitely be dining again at Balti King!

Tasty food, and pleasant staff. We booked in advance but probably didn't need to - there were a few walk-ins whilst we were there, and lots of takeaways. We have been spoilt a bit by our own local Indian restaurants which are excellent so could only give this one 4 by comparison - absolutely fine food and nothing in particular to fault, just not the best we've had! Totally worth a visit if you are in Hayle.

Service is great, very friendly. Had chicken korma, Lamb Korma, mixed kebab starter, sweet narn bread. Rice. The food was very tasty, good quality. Portions of Meat could be slightly more. But overall the food was very good. Decor / plates and cutlery could do with updating. But definitely a good restaurant. Will eat there again

Good food but took too long to give us our small order while others were getting served after at least 5mins and we got our food after 25mins. I assumed this was racism

First Make sure with staff or manger starting chutney tray(not extra) is free or they are going to charge for that. We ordered three starter dishes all dishes came uncooked. We ordered masala papadam they gave us without any topping on papadam just plain fried that all, And after paying the bill time they’re arguing for chutney tray charge. Can I add recipe?

First time here, very nice food and service

Don’t be fooled by the plain exterior of this restaurant and take away. The Balti King is a compact but comfortable restaurant with a relaxed ambience. The two staff on duty on both our visits were very pleasant and polite. On our first visit we opted to not have a starter a mind just hit the mains. Baltimora chicken tikka masala and chicken tikka pathia was the order of the day, complimented by keema rice, keema naan and chips. The second visit did include a starter. We chose chicken chat puri and meat samosas. This was followed by another balti chicken tikka masala and a chicken tikka karahi with the same sundries as the previous visit. All of the food was exceptional. My wife particularly enjoyed her Balti chicken tikka masala, hence it being chosen twice. We can say, wholeheartedly, that the Balti King is the best Indian Restaurant that we have visited ‘away from home, up north’ The bar appears to be reasonably well stocked but they do not offer draught beer. This is in no way a criticism, just an observation. The bottled beer on offer was well chilled and reasonably priced, as was the food. There was no shortage of take away customers visiting the restaurant plus there is the option of delivery etc. The only bad thing is that the Balti King is so far away from where we live. We will definitely be back when we return to Carbis Bay in the future!

Just a beautiful balti mixed massalla, loads of tender meat and the mrs had chicken chilli balti absolutely brilliant, great quality food thank you ,sorry no photos ate all up

We were a family of 4 who all ordered different meals. All of us enjoyed our individual meals and there was nothing but happy bellies in our household. We benefitted from the 10% discount on collection also which meant we got a meal free. Amazing. Would recommend people to try this restaurant. We thought the portion sizes were great, in fact some was left for the next day!

What can I say! Everytime I and family come down to Devon and Cornwall I'm continually disappointed with the quality of indian restaurants! Coming from West London and being a regular down Brick Lane, East London where the Indian restaurants are absolutely on point and continually raising the bar on Indian food. This restaurant, 'Balti King' was poor in terms if taste, quality and quantity! Ordered the lamb karahi and chicken tikka chilli tawa and both had exactly 5 small peices of meat respectively and both were overloaded with peppers and onions, just to bulk the dish up. The pilau rice was just boiled rice with some sweet rice added to it. Had a conversation with the main waiter and he said, this restaurant is inadated with Asian customers during the summer! I said I didn't believe him! I wasn't rude to him and just paid my bill of approx. £52. My fault really in believing there could be a decent Indian restaurant in the South West of England. But, knowing me, I'll keep trying and hopefully, IA, I'll find one.

Very friendly staff. Food was all cooked and presented well. Overall great food/service for a fair price. Would recommend and go back next time we’re in the area.

The FLAVOURS here are nothing short of incredible! The food is cooked to perfection every time. The staff are professional, attentive and thoughtful towards guests. Been here many times and have never had a poor experience. They are consistently excellent!

Worst food I ever had. I ordered Tawa vegetable, tandoori chicken, chilli chicken balti. All had dark red color and tastless. Worst part next day I ordered only tawa vegetable and asked not to mix color and not make red and he agreed not to make it red but again he mix same color and made it red. Never ever recommend this restaurant for India taste. Try something else. 1 rating can be considered for daal.

Visit at least once a week and never disappointed. Staff are amazing. Food is amazing. Easy parking outside. You have to go and try it for yourself. Brilliant place 👏 👌

First time ordering delivery from here last night. Staff were more than helpful. Food was extremely tasty. Was more than happy to alter dishes to suit. Would recommend. 👌

Had a takeaway. Lovely fresh poppodoms and nann bread. The curry was nice and fresh and a generous sized portion and had a nice kick to it. (Chicken tikka dansak). Will definitely use again.

Friendly service and great food

Lets start with the place. Decoration of the place can be described as "plain", I did like that personally, there is no distractions, but if you're looking for a place with lots of decoration, this isn't it, but it was VERY well kept and clean, no dust anywhere, could do with a spot of paint in some areas but overall, the place was spotless. Service, the guy behind the counter was helpful and informative and answered my questions, I've not really ate much, if any, Indian food so their help was appreciated. In the end I ordered: Batak Tikka Massala Keema Rice Obviously the Massala had no kick to it so I can't comment on how spicy the food was, but, it was quite nice. It came with rice, the duck, popadom, onion and mint sauce maybe? I dunno, white stuff. So it was a satisfying amount of food. Overall I was very happy with my meal, and I will return again and order something with a kick to it next time!

My wife is disabled so when booking table stated this ! On arrival staff member actual came out into the the street to greet us and help her to her seat . This went well above any restaurant we have been too in the past . Food was fantastic and service was first class throughout the meal ! Also locals at table next to us visit on a weekly basis and are full of praise for the restaurant. Thank you Balti king we will be back when back in Cornwall 👍

Very nice takeaway meal. Friendly staff. We enjoyed all the dishes, particularly the Naam breads and fried rice. Lots of meat. Would definitely recommend.

The nicest takeaway Indian we have had in a long time. Would highly recommend!

Went here early evening on the 5/10/23. Very quiet and only one other couple came in in the hour I was there. They didnt seem to be doing much in the way of takeaway orders either. I had a chicken shashlick as a main. Unusual in that it didnt come on a hot sizzler dish that most places give you. Instead it came already plated up. Plenty of chicken though and tasty. I also had a sag ponir as a side dish, again very tasty. Had a bottle of Cobra and with papadoms the bill was £25.30 so reasonable but not cheap. Place is clean and tidy with good toilets. I would recommend this place but on the night I was there it was just empty so was a bit like eating alone at your kitchen table.

Thoroughly recommend this place - doesn't look anything special from the outside, but the food really is excellent (and good value) and the staff are exceptional - really friendly and very efficient. Just one warning - the food is a spice level up from most curries we've had, so check before ordering! Definitely worth a visit.

Sadly quality of meat and portion size has deteriorated.The duck was NOT succulent as described in the menu, but hard tough and not fresh. Chicken dishes were dry, meat overcooked and more sauce than meat. the prawn curry we ordered for £12 had 4 prawns ! Its under new management and sadly a new cook, using the same old menu.

Always great takeaway, we have this at least once a month and is consistently good quality. Great service too many thanks!

Very friendly atmosphere! Staff are lovely and food is good

Absolutely brilliant dinner tonight. The reviews convinced us to give them a try and it's lived up to everything people said. The staff are polite and friendly, and even the condiments with the poppadoms are better than average. The chutney has a lovely sharp tang, the lime pickle has a lovely deep, complex warmth, where many are just hot, and I think the raita has more of a mix of herbs than the usual green minty yoghurt. Our main courses were lovely and fragrant, a nice earthiness to the tikka biryani, and the massala wasn't too sweet, as is often the case. And the naan was amazing. We both thoroughly enjoyed our meal tonight, and the restaurant was comfortable and had a pleasant atmosphere. Will definitely visit again another time we are staying in the area. The prices were a little more than our local, but for poppadoms, two mains, a side, a naan and two large cobras, it was £22 a head, which for the quality, pleasant atmosphere and great service, with enough leftovers to take home is more than worth it. Thank you all for a very enjoyable evening and a delicious meal.

A lovely evening meal. Friendly attentive staff. Food served in a timely manor, presented nicely, tasted delicious and good value for money.

Staff are lovely and food is incredible. Pretty affordable too. Plus the little details they add make it that little bit more special such as warmed wipes after your meal and a mint chocolate. However I do wish I was made aware the poppadoms cost extra (worth it but not a nice surprise on the bill)

Unpleasant. Ordered duck massala and a biryani. The duck dish and the veg curry accompanying the biryani were saturated with sugar. Very disappointing. I might as well have bought a bag of Silver Spoon and dissolved it in water. It's incredibly disrespectful to treat customers this way - as though we can't wait to have heart attacks.

We visited in June, there were 5 of us including 2 children, the staff were very friendly inviting and hospitable, food was amazing we ordered a variety and everything was spot on, good variety of drinks also, will be visiting again in October.

Ordered a take away as wasn’t feeling like going out. Chose the balti king and so glad I did as the curry’s were really good. I had a lamb Biriyani which was huge and full of flavour and my family all played it safe with chicken tikka massala. Also very tasty and huge too

Im so not happy in this place. I was reading before the reviews on this place, and was good and I pop in to dine. But was horrible food, horrible staff. I did drink Coca -cola and was no ice, no gas, and hot. Never again in this restaurant.

We came from Birmingham in ST IVES for vacation, we looked for halal food and found them one of the top rated restaurant nearest me. First thing is food which is best in the area I found after taste other restaurant foods. Their staff is very friendly and attentive polite which is very nice keeping guests happy.

What an amazing find. We are on holiday for two weeks, from the north of England and ordered a takeaway from here tonight. The chicken dupiaza was amazing, the best I’ve ever eaten.. compliments to your chef. I wish we weren’t going home next Friday as I would defiantly be a regular here. Everything was hot and tasty, and the poppadoms and dips were the best… well done guys, it was worth every penny, amazing food .

I do not recommend coming here unless you like waiting almost 2 hours for your food to arrive, the service here was atrocious and the waiters don't seem to know what they're doing. They completely forgot about our drinks and we had to go up half an hour after ordering them before they even realised. After an hour of waiting for food we called over a waiter only to receive a nothing answer of "I'm sorry" and "I don't know". We ended up leaving hungry. After speaking with the manager about our concerns we recieved our drinks for free so I believe it was just a lack of co-ordination for the staff. Overall, I'm incredibly upset over this endeavour and I will never be returning.

Absolutely brilliant Sunday dinner, we had roast beef, roast chicken , steak and ale pie ( the pie was the best tasting) and fish and chips. All was brilliant, I can not recommend the roast beef enough it just fell apart and such good portions. All staff were very friendly and was happy to help in any way, definitely worth a visit. Was busy, there was 6 of us so had to sit separately 4&2 but was worth it.

We visited here on a Sunday evening. We didn't make a reservation but there were plenty of tables free. We ordered food quickly and we didn't have to wait long before our dishes were brought to us. All food was tasty and well presented. Food was reasonably priced and so were the drinks. Would definitely recommend and will be back again soon.

Small restaurant in the middle of Hayle about 5 minutes from Premier Inn at Hayle. Parking is available on street outside and we sat on one of 4 tables at the front. Had poppadoms, pickles, Chicken Korai and chilli masala, pilau rice and Keema Nan....

Fantastic restaurant with really nice food and and very friendly welcoming staff. We stayed in Hayle for 7 days and ate here twice as it was so nice. Best Bangladeshi cuisine I have had to date and I live in the Midlands so have been to a lot of Bangladeshi restaurants in my time. Will definitely go back their with the family next time I visit Cornwall.
