We were staying in the village and popped in here numerous times. They sold all the items you would expect from a small shop. Can recommend the sausages and bacon - a million miles better than supermarket stuff. The cooked ham, cut to order was also excellent and super value. The staff were very friendly every time I popped in and I was very pleased to support this local estabilishment whilst I was staying here.

Wensleydale Creamery

02/07/2019: Visited recently to stock up on Wensleydale, but always manage to go home with several other varieties. Shop is always interesting with obvious Yorkshire theme. Restaurant good too. Well worth a visit, recommended!
18/09/2019: We were at the Wensleydale cheese festival and were driven indoors by a shower of rain. In the creamery there is a choice of a restaurant and the 1897 coffee shop and we went for the latter. The service was speedy and there was a wide choice (if you like cheese that is) of dishes. We both went for the Bishopdale Backpacker Toastie and it was both delicious and filling.

The Kings Arms

11/06/2019: On this wet chilly June day all that we wanted was a hot bowl of hearty soup with a wedge of warmed artisan bread. Yes, we were given a warm welcome and good attentive service but the soup was water-thin, it was not flavoursome and the bread was cold and barely interesting. Attention to deal was lacking here. Could do better methinks.
03/11/2019: The restaurant is a cosy contrast to lively pub bar full of locals but it’s busy too, with very good food pleasantly served, so be sure to book. We heard that the Tuesday Pie Night is particularly popular. Our mains of Liver & Bacon and Drovers Pie were good and generous.
