Opens early for papers and such a handy shop. Parking quite handy. Askrigg is fortunate to have such a local shop

We were staying in the village and popped in here numerous times. They sold all the items you would expect from a small shop. Can recommend the sausages and bacon - a million miles better than supermarket stuff. The cooked ham, cut to order was also excellent and super value. The staff were very friendly every time I popped in and I was very pleased to support this local estabilishment whilst I was staying here.

Looking for a cuppa when on a drive round the area we spotted this tea room. It looked quaint and appealing. Through the main door, the little shop is on the left and the tea room on the right. Service was friendly and efficient. We only wanted hot drinks, but the cakes looked good. We sat in the window with a view of the church opposite. A pleasant experience, thanks.

Absolutely recommend afternoon tea here. There was a delicious mix of sandwiches, home made sausage rolls, coleslaw and salad. Followed by scones with cream and jam, apple turnover and carrot cake, choice of tea or coffee and a glass of Prosecco if you so wish. The tearoom is attached to the village shop, which has everything that you could possibly want and run by a Husband and Wife team who are so friendly and welcoming.

We only popped in for a cup of tea after a short walk in the fresh air. It's a very small tea room (only 3 tables). Staff were lovely. Only wished we had room for the lovely looking cakes and bakes! We will return for afternoon tea and scones next time we are in the area.

The food is homemade perfection and never disappoints. They even sell meals to take home and cook. It's lovely inside though tiny. (I went in 2016 not 2016 but I couldn't select that) I can't wait to stay opposite here Again this February and have some wholesome meals

We visited here on a Herriot way walk. We saw this tea room as we were walking the trail and decided to pop in for elevenses. A very small tea room, but the coffee was great and the locals friendly, especially the two old ladies that were sat in the window, who insisted we had their table when they left.

Llamado para una taza de té. Es un café, está bien, pero podría hacer con un poco de actualización. El único inconveniente es que los aseos están 35 metros abajo de la calle en el centro de la comunidad y son un poco desalentador, obviamente no bajo el control de la cafetería

when visiting Askrigg, popped in here- as it's also a small village general store- handy for milk, newspapers, bread etc, the frontage looks typical of a Dickensian store, maybe "Sykes" had seduced my head to thinking Dickens. This makes it all more charming and inviting- reading the other reviews, only wish we had tried out the tea room

Have just spent the last 5 days here with my other half & would happily stay again. The room we stayed in was at the back & overlooked the courtyard, so no views but was so comfortable. Lovely comfy double bed, & there was a 2 seater sofa in the room, which was perfect to relax on after a couple of drinks at one of the 3 pubs in the village (although personally I wasn't impressed with the White Rose pub but that's in a different review). My only very slight issue was the size of the shower but then I am tall, but even so after a days walking or cycling it did the trick. We had a choice of breakfasts from full English to omelette to porridge - whatever took your fancy & with home made bread on the side. The owners, Michael & Alison made us feel very welcome from start to end.We will be returning

We called in at the tearoom after a walk on a dismal day, and what a treat this tearoom is. It's old fashioned in appearance but that's so refreshing after the usual coffee shop chains we see nowadays. There is a choice of freshly brewed coffee, none of the lattes etc and of course good old yorkshire tea. We had a yummy fruit cake and a mince pie with clotted cream, both of which were home made and were excellent. Will definitely return next time we are in the area.

We stayed in Askrigg for two weeks in a self-catering cottage, so although we didn't stay at Sykes B&B or eat in the Tearoom, we did visit their shop daily for our supplies. It was well stocked and had everything we needed. We like to stay in small villages, and make it a priority to shop locally and appreciate the convenience and also the atmosphere of the small shops. The shopkeeper at Sykes was very friendly and we enjoyed our chats with him. If you go, ask for the bacon rashers which will be cut fresh for you - they were delicious! They also carry some very nice locally brewed ales - Askrigg Ale was our favorite and is brewed just down the street. We will miss this lovely shop and wish it may years of continued success!

Last year we gave this tearoom an excellent rating, because we enjoyed their fabulous cheese scones. This time when we were back (to have cheese scones again), we were very disappointed. Although the scones tasted OK, they were SO small. If we had put our two little wedges together (yes, they were wedges, not round), they might have made one of the ones we had last time. Otherwise the tearoom was OK, but because of this disappointment, it get's a poor rating from us this time.

This was our first stay in Askrigg and we definately made a good choice in our accomodation. We stayed in Room 1 which was a lovely spacious room with a comfy sofa that we sank into after a lovely days walk. One of the main things I look for in B&B's are some form of seating area. After walking or exploring the area you need somewhere nice and relaxing to sit and unwind and this certainly had it. The biscuits on the hospitality tray were too morrish by far. There was even 2 wine glasses (we had taken our own cause B&B's don't normally have them. The shower was fantastic and really woke you up, very powerful. The room was very clean and tastefully decorated.Breakfast - was lovely and we weren't disapointed. We both had the full breakfast - worked it off walking. We ordered sandwiches for our last day - the sandwiches were delicious and I wish we had ordered them on our first day there as well. We went for a lovely 6 1/2 mile walk from the doorstep and the views were spectacular. Lisa & Keith are lovely people, friendly & welcoming. I personally could have just sat with Lisa all day chatting ov er coffee and eating her delicious scones!!. A lovely person and judging from the smells coming from the kitchen and the tea room forever bustling a wonderful cook. Thank you both for making our weekend a memorable and pleasurable one.

Having just walked the circular Askrigg/Bainbridge route, we flopped onto the chairs outside Sykes. The melted bacon/cheese baguette (mine) and the home cooked ham and Wensleydale cheese on home baked bread (my wife's) were both good quality, very tasty and filling. It was enjoyable sitting outside and people watching as the shop was a hub of the local community. The owner was charming. We look forward to another opportunity to visit.

Wasn't sure where to stop in Yorkshire Dales. Decided on Askrigg as it was situated roughly half way from where we lived to the Lake District.Sykes House is situated opposite a church and the rooms are on the first floor. The owners also run a shop and tea room downstairs and they live in the property. Neither the shop or the tea room imposed on our visit at all, in fact it enhanced it, seeing the locals coming in and out, and everyone being so friendly. We stayed in the front bedroom (No 2). Views were of St Oswalds Church. Beautiful room, very tastefully decorated. The ensuite was large enough and had shower over bath. Everywhere was spotlessly clean. The couple who ran the place, Lisa and Keith, were really friendly and professional, and to say they were really busy with the shop and tearoom, they still had time to talk to us when they saw us coming in and out.The breakfast was really excellent. Cooked breakfast with plenty of choices. Cereals, toast, etc (homemade bread). We didnt eat in the tearoom as we were out and about most of the time but there was always a lovely smell coming from the kitchen where home made food was being prepared, and the menu looked lovely. All in all we had a lovely time in the area and felt very comfortable stopping at Sykes House. I would recommend this place to anyone who wants to stop in a reasonably priced establishment and get 4 star treatment! My partner's only gripe was that he could not get a WiFi signal all the time in the bedroom (they will give you a 'key' to connect), but this is a small price to pay and I'm sure that it wouldnt bother most people. The phone signal is not that good because of the general area but there was always a spot in the room where you could get a signal to phone home etc. Many thanks to Keith and Lisa for a memorable time.

I think we stayed in the better of the two rooms (ours had a bath with a shower over; the other just a shower), but our friends who had the room at the back of the house were more than happy, too. We had a very filling, very good breakfast (you help yourself to toast) and read our newspapers from the shop that is part of this building that comprises a B&B/tearoom/general store/newsagent. I can't remember if they offered an evening meal as we spent our nights in one of the three pubs in Askrigg. The couple who ran the place were genuinely nice people who seemed to instinctively know when to engage in conversation and when to let us just relax and enjoy our stay there. Our large room – overlooking the main road and St Oswald’s church opposite - was beautifully furnished and decorated in keeping with the history of the building, of which the owners are enthusiastic and proud. The bathroom, too, is a good size and everything was perfectly clean and tidy. If I was forced to make a slightly critical comment I would say that the TV bracket could have been fixed on a swivel mount (as at April 2010) so that it could be watched more easily from the bed. But that is only a very minor niggle and frankly you’d be daft to come to this fabulous Yorkshire Dales village and waste much time watching TV. Sykes House - or Sykes’s House as the original (?) sign outside has it – is a terrific base for cycling and walking – both of which we enjoyed doing during our stay. I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend the place, just don’t book when we’re thinking of going back ;-)

We visited here after reading some encouraging reviews and noting that “booking is essential for food”, we thought it would be a safe bet while we were in the area. Unfortunately, the 2 stars are for service along as the bar staff were very polite and helpful. They are also dog friendly which is a bonus. Other than that, the food was not impressive. We had the Sunday roast and the beef tasted of poor quality, and vegetables were not seasoned and lacked flavour. The cabbage served with the meal was pickled which wasn’t what we expected. We were still hungry afterwards but didn’t want to waste any more money on desert in case it was more of the same. The decor is very tired and the place does lack atmosphere unfortunately. We didn’t drink alcohol but they have a wide variety of ales to choose from behind the bar. We won’t be returning, sadly!
