Swirls in Portsmouth

The shop has been expanded and whats left is pushed into a room area at rear - We were told no staff available to work coffee machine etc until 3pm. The ice cream looked old and runny - It's had it I'm afraid. I was looking forward to that too - Oh well

We were taken here by a friend and I swore I would have a coffee and stick to my diet. Forget it !! The minute I saw the huge array of ice cream and fancy dishes I was lost. This is a very inexpensive place that has a real American / Italian feel and stupendous choice of ice cream. My friends had ice cream floats and ice creams i had an iced coffee milkshake and 2 ice creams. This place is so good there should be a government health waning. No diets in here !! Loved it.

En el camino de la cerca de Fratton Park en un día frío que estaba pasando en la Avenida Mart Kwiki Orfebre y me pregunté si no bebidas calientes, además de su habitual gama de productos a base de helado. No, ciertamente bien y era un excelente chocolate caliente que me fijo en mi camino. La heladería está ubicado hacia la parte trasera de la tienda y cuando visité varios clientes estaban disfrutando de la variedad. Sin duda llamar de nuevo y tengo que mencionar específicamente la señora amable y acogedor que me sirve y añadido a la experiencia.

This is the best ice-cream shop in Portsmouth. The laborers are kind. Good service. I recommend it everyone.

I love this place, only place in Portsmouth for a decent milkshake. Have been here and scoops, swirls is do much better, better waffles, more affordable and great staff! I look forward to the upstairs bring open!

Service good and friendly, great ice cream and amazing choice of desserts; very unique. Lovely place and very clean. Coffee is very good. Friendly staff. Staff is shared with the counterpart shop so someone is always around; very convenient. Well positioned with a spacious car park.

I do love icecream so I was very happy to see this when we were staying the night at the nearby ibis. The portions are huge and the range of flavours immense. Icecream was lovely so much so we greedily went twice in the day...

Nice place, a lot of variety of ice cream; the waffles were a bit hard and dry, but big portions; I've hardly eaten mine; good quality of food; a bit cool upstairs; good for one off; needs more advertising as a bit hidden from the crowd..

We created our own icecream sundae's. The lady was so patient and friendly. Prefer swirls to sprinkles for the sundae's. Deffo my favourite place for icecream :-D

Been here a few times service is always slow usually only one person behind counter sometimes have to go and ask in shop to be served ice cream however nice variety of ice creams waffles pancakes sundaes coffees etc slightly cheaper than other ice cream parlours if you are sitting upstairs which is very bright and colourful the helpful staff bring it up to you upstairs is always clean and tidy as are the toilets which is a bonus

The seating is very squashed in fact my darter an myself were seated at. Table right next to the salad cold cabinet o the small supermarket attached to Swirls the ice cream was nice but not exceptional would not bother again if I want a similar experience I will open my fridge door sit in front of it and open a carton of Ben and Jerrys

This was our 2nd visit and we won't be returning. The first time, it was ridiculously slow, my husband and daughter had finished theirs before mine arrived. My daughter is 3 and my husband had to finish hers as well as eat his which shows how slow they were. We thought the girl was new but tonight, several months later it's the same girl and just as slow. We came out with the intention of having dinner but as they had no fruit for the pancakes, we ended up buying a sundae for the little one, a latte and a pot of white tea. I'm lactose intolerant so the idea of a crepe or waffle with just sauce and almonds didn't exactly appeal. My husband's latte didn't have the shot of syrup he asked and paid for, and was so disgusting that he left all of it bar the initial mouthful. The other gelato places in Portsmouth are quicker, have coffee that you can actually drink and have a decent supply of stock. We'll go back to visiting them

Lovely ice cream but seating area leaves a lot to be desired my daughter and me were sat into the shop next to the salad cool cabinet. Lots of lovely flavours but needs more room

Visited and with no one else around was told to wait 15-20 mins to be served as they had an order to make up ! I left but later that week (the kids begged me ) we tried again , no atmosphere as it's in the back of a Kwik e mart and the lady serving didn't smile or thank us . Ice cream is fun isn't it ? ??? Not here though ....... try somewhere else

Very clean and new looking. Ice cream was very nice, lots to choose from, not so many crepes/waffles though. No indication that you could sit upstairs, luckily we did our research first and knew you could, no one else sitting there, very bright and cheerfull looking. Woudn't make a trip back just to have ice cream though.

We visited swirls last night, there was a group of five women :) I instantly was impressed with the amount of ice cream flavours but when looking at the menu of waffles and crepes I found they weren't very desirable, everyone ended up just choosing ice cream. It was okay but to be honest it's not anything ben and Jerry's couldn't provide me with at home! We went and sat upstairs, the decor and seating was lovely but it was empty and cold! Think I will stick to the other ice cream parlours next time!

We decided to try Swirls instead of going to Scoops but although the ice cream was nice, the seating area (upstairs) lack any atmosphere, no TVs or music like Scoops and Sprinkles and we were the only ones in there. There was one lady serving, who was also serving in the convenience store it is located in. She was working her socks off bless her. Luckily we had no queue.There is in parking either.Really bad location but if you are after somewhere quiet it's a good place to go as Scoops and Sprinkles are always busy.No good for pushchairs wheelchairs as up a flight of stairs to sit down.

Lots of variety of icecream . 42 variety of ice cream . One of the best ice cream parlour in portsmouth. Very clean .lots of space in upstairs seating area. Very nice .

Swirls has some delicious ice cream although I personally find the sauces in the sundaes sickly sweet - ask them to go easy on it. The atmosphere is a bit weird being at the back of a shop however the upstairs seating area is away from the shop. At the end of the day the ice cream is delicious and the price is good.

Love it here lots of ice cream to choose from and the prices here are cheaper than scoops I would recommend this place

We were really looking forward to visiting here for the 1st time the queue was long only two tables once we got a table everyone eyes us up waiting for us to go, it took ages to get our ice cream The first one come out then was a good ten min before the 2nd one and by the time the 3rd ice cream had come out the other two had finished theirs One girl rushed off her feet and other so slow and clearly didn't want to be there People were walking out It's pretty hard to enjoy your ice cream when a stranger queuing is almost sitting on your lap and starring at you Over all very disappointing And to make it all worse what I'm guess is the boss walked in thinking he was all that and asking if everything was ok but before I could reply no he walked out again really poor show

First visited here on a quiet Monday night and was certainly not disappointed! There is such a huge selection of gelato ice creams and they are so delicious. I went for 3 scoops - ferrero rocher, snickers and kinder beuno which cost £4.50. I'd say that's pretty reasonable considering the size of the scoops you get - huge!! I was not expecting the portions to be so generous. The service wasn't overly friendly but the ice cream definitely made up for it. Would definitely return here!!

We went to swirls after reading a trip advisor review. We were no disappointed. There is so much choice and the gelato is of excellent quality. It feels a bit strange to have to walk through a convenience shop to get to it. We went in at 9.00 pm on a Saturday and were surprised at how busy it was. We will definitely be going back.

I have been here a few times. The customer service is excellent and the food is very nice. There is so much to choose from and they are adding to the menu. You will be spoilt for choice. They have recently opened the upstairs that will provide additional seating. On busy days we have to wait longer for our food as there is a lack of staff. However, the food is worth the wait. The prices are reasonable. We will be returning soon to try the other food on the menu.

Popped in here with my youngest and eldest sons and the eldest' girlfriend. We had all been to Sprinkles, in Southampton, but all loved Swirls. Great choice of Gelato, Waffles, Crepes and service was very superb. Will definitely be back.

I really wanted to enjoy this place but....Queuing for a table with no supervision, in Portsmouth, yep it'll be like a cattle market.The ice cream is nice but I'd not pay 6.95 for it again.You can't relax in there with people eyeing up your table and watching every mouthful you take.The staff were friendly but rushed off their feet.

I have always enjoyed the ice-cream served here and it feels like a wonderful treat to indulge in a the huge range of flavours. The staff are usually very pleasant and really should have a tip box so we can say thanks for the great service and excellent care taken with the ice-cream. A very happy experience had by all!!!

So much better than Scoops in Elm Grove! My husband and I took our girls here as a treat and the service was outstanding. The place is extremely clean, with polite staff, delicious products, and we were even approached by the owner who actively sought positive & negative criticisms - but we had nothing negative to say. Perfect!

Discussing the ice cream 'scoop' options I was informed that - 1 scoop was £2.00, 2 scoops were £3.50 and tubs or standard cones are free.The hundreds-and-thousands cone (Hs&Ts cone) was an extra 50p - subsequently NOT TRUE.I ordered two-scoops and a Hs&Ts cone - price £4.50On asking why it was not £4.00 I was told that I had ordered 2 separate scoops.I countered that I had in fact ordered 2 scoops AND a cone but I was later told that unless I had ordered the 2 scoops in a tub, purchased the Hs&Ts cone separately and put my scoop into the cone myself, the cone will cost £1 and NOT 50p.BEWARE - It is not possible to order 2 scoops and put one in the Hs&Ts cone and another in a cone or tub without getting charged 100% more on the price of the Hs&Ts cone!!The server later informed me that she did not agree with the policy but had to enforce it nevertheless. I asked why, when I had discussed the options, she did not inform me that I would be paying £1 for the cone and she did not reply.This is a clear case of a provider misleading a consumer as to what they are spending their money on and by not informing me of the facts, even when discussing the pricing, shows guilty intent.However, on the basis of one visit & 2 scoops, I cannot fault the ice cream & sorbet, lack of queues or the cleanliness of the outlet.

My 11yr old heard about this place and begged to be taken, and we are so glad he did! It was fantastic quality ice cream, served by prompt, polite and friendly staff, making a delicious treat for us all. The display of ice creams is very tempting, there are also waffles etc available which looked delicious when we saw them being served to other customers. The manager was on hand, it was a busy period and his attentiveness made sure that the customers were served and seated in a timely way. Plus he was keen to tell us of his plans for expansion and childrens parties. On the down side, it's not that easy to spot as you drive alone the road and parking around it is very limited. One tip might be to make use of the nearby large B&Q car park and take a lot of care when crossing the busy road to Swirls.

The Ice cream parlour isn't seen very well seen on the outside but as soon as you step in the parlour, the range of gelato, cakes and sundaes was astonishing and it is definitely much better than the scoops in elm grove for choices. The place is very clean so I would definitely come back here and would recommend this to anyone in or visiting Portsmouth and would like some gelato ice cream

Staff we're exceedingly friendly. The ice cream is delicious. There is lots to choose from and it is great value for your money. The best ice cream parlour in Portsmouth. I'd come back every day (if I could). You have to eat here it is amazing!

I had the best experience in Swirls! The staff are genuinely really nice and welcoming and the ice cream is soooo good - so much to choose from! They are not badly priced compared to other ice cream parlours around and you get a lot for your money. I will be returning for sure!
