Sweet Retreat Burton in East Staffordshire

The first time I had the sweet retreat experience I was relaxing in the bath when my truly perfect current partner brought me some treats back. After a hard day painting the bathroom ceiling I was treated to a Cents Me Shake and decadent Chocolate Sundae. Both were even better whilst watching the England Euro Finals Match. Had 2 more deliveries since courtesy of the lady in my life.

When we received the order, upon review one of the products were burnt and in-edible. We then rang up inform them and try to get at least a replacement and we was informed the whole batch was the same, and when we asked, isn't anything they could do. Disgusting service and standards. We've ordered before and had similar standards but was at least edible but now this was too far. Will not be ordering again.

Shocking food, they manage to mess up a dessert that’s some serious talent. Owner has to be one of the worst person ever. No professionalism and sense of respect. Avoid at all cost

I had the Oreo milkshake and it was AMAZING! Definitely ordering from there again. Best Dessert in the town 😋. Highly recommended 👌

So placed an order with uber eats, upon receiving my order I realised they had forgotten to give my daughter’s oreo milk shake,so rang and spoke to the manager who very kindly sent out milk shake and complimentary cake which he did not have too as order was placed with 3rd party,but he went over and beyond his means to make his customers happy. Thank you very much my daughter was very happy. Will defo be ordering again.

We ordered from the Sweet Retreat Etwall store. The customer service was really poor, I was told after ordering the wait for collection would be 30 minutes, after 15 minutes we receive a snotty call saying why haven't we collected the order yet. Then once we open the food, we had a long black hair in the waffle (none of us have black hair) we also ordered 2 other desserts which tasted of nothing, with barely any toppings it was so bland. Really disappointing.

I won a free desert competition on Facebook, collected this evening and decided on the cookie dough, it was absolutely lovely!! Thank you very much sweet retreat...

Absolutely terrible service and delivery time. Ordered two deserts which took 2 hours to come. When we were 30 minutes past the delivery time, we rang the restaurant to ask and the girl on the phone was horribly rude and gave us no answers other than the food will be here when it’s here. Will never order from there again.

Ordered takeaway, arrived in absolutely no time. Best milkshake I've had in a long time. Big shout out.

They got drink wrong and to tell I clicked that one they sent when I didn't to top it off I asked for malteaser ice cream to find bubble gum ice cream running all the way through the scoop of ice cream I ordered

Will not be going here again! Yet again the order is wrong- missing an item. Rang Sweet Retreat, was faced with a patronising staff member and an even more patronising manager who suggested I “check under the cup holder” in the bag to see if my cheesecake was underneath, a ridiculous comment and an insult to intelligence. The level of incompetency in this restaurant is unfathomable. Unfortunately the food does not warrant the awful customer service, long wait times and missing items. Would definitely NEVER recommend, it’s not worth the hassle!

their cookie dough and ice cream is amazing and their biscoff milkshake was one of the best milkshakes ive ever had. very filling and would definitely order from here again.

Me and my partner ordered a few desserts to come this evening (Sunday) got told it was arriving at 10:15pm. It’s now 22:52 and nothing has turned up neither any tracking. All that is said is it’s been delivered. Clearly not if nothing is on the porch we checked a good few times. We then find out the restaurant is closed and can’t even get through it’s ridiculous and will definitely not be ordering home delivery from here again!

Waffles, crepes and cookie dough are great. Had a ferrero rocher cheesecake though and it wasn't good - it was basically chocolate mousse on soggy biscuit. Expensive for what it is.

Staff amazing very helpful and kind. Would recommend visiting if your in burton and to top it off they now do delivery service 😁.

My children (8 and 4) have been wanting to visit since, well, forever. So when we finally got round to it they squealed! They loved everythinf the massive choice of ice cream and the chocolate sauce walls we're first on the agenda. Then we had to choose dessert. Nothing was to much for the team even when my awkward 8 year old wanted an adult waffle for a child!! Great place, great staff and great desserts

I usually have a takeaway waffle,Coconut Bliss which is my absolute favourite. But we came with our grandsons for a treat,they love it here! They take a while choosing due to the wonderful choice. Thank goodness i live nearby!

We ordered our first sweet retreat and OMG it was amazing. We has waffles with chocolate sauce and white chocolate and it was delicious and so warm. We also had the old school apple pie and custard also delicious will definitely order again!

Came here with friends service was fantastic and the desserts are to die for! Milkshakes are beautiful too! Defo recommend

The puddings and milkshakes taste amazing and are great value for money. They even do some deals like discount for NHS staff. The staff will do all they can to make your experience great.

I honestly don’t know where to start. We’ve been ordering Sweet Retreat for a longggg while now, and fall in love with their menu more and more each time.

I definitely recommend this place, 5 star service . Very clean and polite service, when ever you are in Burton.

Ordered waffles, they came rock solid and cold, when I called to complain no one bothered answering the phone. Won't be ordering again... poor quality of food and non existent customer service... absolutely disgraceful.

After our last visit, we were contacted by the manager who was very apologetic and was very keen on rectifying the situation swiftly. As a result of this, we were offered the chance to come back into the shop and place an order up to an amount that we had spent last time.

I was so disgusted by the amount of time they took to deliver our desserts. It took more than 2 hours to deliver considering the drive to our home is only 5 minites away... won't be ordering from there again... waste of money and time... i do not reccommend this place to anyone.

Disgraceful!! Waited 3 hours for 2 desserts when we was told would be 1 hour max. Tried calling back the lines had been switched off and eventually got through 2 hours later and was told delivery is on its way, however nearly an hour later and it still hadn't arrived. I rang back to cancel and they said they cannot do anything about it as they are closed and driver is on its way. First and last time ordering from there. Would rather travel to derby in that amount of time and have better dessert!

Ordered a midweek treat. Took nearly hour and a half to deliver. Ate most of our dessert until one of us found a hair in the ice cream. Definitely not one of ours. They offered to send another dessert and pick up the hair to work out who’s it was, but we had nearly eaten them so didn’t want another. And to be fair we all felt a bit sick by the first encounter. Otherwise they weren’t interested. Will be going to their competitors from now on.

Yulka and Beth looked after us. Quick, thoughtful and friendly service. Wide selection of hot and cold desserts.

Usually order online however thought we would get out the house and eat inside the restaurant, this was bad point number 1 as the tables were shocking....dirty and covered in melted ice cream. Ordered the Sweet Snowflake Cookie Dough, Brownie Waffle with extra Oreo pieces and a Dime Milkshake. After an hour of waiting (bad point number 2), we enquired as to where our order was to be told it had accidentally been misplaced (bad point number 3) and would be out straight away. After 2 more sets of people came in and got their order before us (bad point number 4), and another group, who had also been waiting an hour, had a milkshake splashed all over them when they finally got their order (bad point number 5), 20 minutes later my Waffle arrived (with no Oreo pieces, bad point number 6), then 5 minutes later the Cookie Dough arrived but no sign of the Dime Milkshake (Bad point number 7). By this time we just wanted to eat it and leave, however we asked for a full refund (over £19) as we had waited so long and had still not received the milkshake, to receive a refund for the milkshake and the missing Oreo pieces, a grand total of £5.50 refund!!!!!!!! (Bad point number 8) Will never be returning, totally disappointed and poor management as they sent the girls out to deal with the issue instead of resolving it themselves!! (Bad point number 9) Should be ashamed!!!

Me and my partner have been here one too many times! We always have cookie dough and its even better when we get 2 for 1!! we normally always do a collection but for our anniversary i decided to eat in and do a surprise for my other half. Was not disappointed! All in all i love this place and will be back in a few months!

Preodered on app before it opened and it gave a rough time. It was here in no time. Ordered a dessert for that evening and one for following day.

After my partner and I waited over an hour for our delivery (just a milkshake and crepe), we decided to phone up and enquire as to where it was; only to be put on hold for just under 10 minuites and have the phone line turned off as we attempted to ring back. We then decided to just go to bed under the impression our order wasn’t coming, 30 minutes later to have a knock on the door with our order. When challenged about the awful customer service and how we were unwilling to pay the full amount, we’re asked if “we would like to just send our food back”. I find this rich considering that I have seen the company promote a ‘missing item or later than expected delivery time compensation policy’ in previous tripadvisor feedback. For arguments sake, we agreed to pay a large fraction of the order as we understand that it is not the delivery drivers fault. After speaking with the manager through the delivery driver’s phone, we were told that there was trouble with the phone lines, hence the communication issues on their behalf, which was clearly NOT the case. Overall I’m disgusted with the customer service which is a shame considering my previous, more pleasant experiences. We completely understand busy nights in the food industry as we both have experience in hospitality. Had the customer service not have been so dreadful, our bad experience could have been improved slightly. Mistakes happen but I believe it’s how they’re dealt with that is important. Will not be ordering for delivery again.

Me & my partner fancied a well deserved treat so we ordered from here, our delivery time shown 45 minutes however an hour & a half later still no order arrived, the phone was engaged, 78 times I tried calling but still no luck. I had pre-paid for my order by debit card so at 11pm there was no alternative but to drive to the shop! On route I tried the phone once more & finally got through to be told my order wasn’t ready yet and will be packed shortly & delivered, I stated I was on my way to collect it. All the staff did was give me £2 back from my delivery fee. 1 extra scoop of ice cream was offered but at 11:30pm on a Sunday I did not want more. My partner had to be up at 4:30am for work & myself 6am. If it hadn’t been for the fact I paid by card I wouldn’t be too fussed. Never ordering from here again !!

My partner and I have been here twice, once for collection and once to eat in. The first time when we collected they gave us an estimated waiting time of around 10 minutes, we pulled up just after and my partner went in and we waited for about 25 minutes.

I went in to order 5 simple milkshakes (basically mix the ice cream with milk), it took them over 50 mins to do them.

Delicious back to school puddings fresh and quick delivery milkshakes are amazing would recommend to everyone

Ordered on Just eat, 45 minuets delivery.....over an hour later. Oh I’ve not got all you order, another driver has been dispatched!! After eating food (which was lovely) a driver turns up 30 minuets later with milkshake...when questioned about reimbursement they took the milkshake away!!!!! Surely as a company if you make a mistake you leave the milkshake & reimburse the customer? Not happy!!! Sad as normally impeccable customer service.

What a hidden gem of a place. Something so colourful and vibrant you’d expect in a bigger city shopping centre. Only 8 or 9 tables so there was a short wait but the staff were so friendly and happy to talk to us whilst we waited to be seated. Between us we must have tried a dozen different flavours of ice cream tasters (they have about 30 flavours to choose from so spoilt for choice). Will definitely be back. Their home delivery service also seemed to be very busy with drivers rushing in and out of the doors so quite a treat for those that live nearby :)

I had a Groupon voucher given to me as a gift for this place for a waffle and hot drink for two. We took a menu and a seat there was plenty to choose from.

We have visited here a few times now and have always had amazing food. The deserts are made fresh and are always delicious. As a family of 6 we have ample most things on the menu and are always extremely happy with what we have had. The staff are friendly and efficient. Will be there again soon I'm sure.

My son and I came in on Sunday 13th August 2017 later on in evening and we were excited about the experience as we heard how good it was, it as a shame that a member of the staff was not helpful, just completely not a person who should be working in this kind of environment dealing with public. I have to describe the girl as there were two young girls who were working one had lighter hair the one who was the unhelpful one was small and had dark hair. So if the manager does read this I hope he has words to her about her attitude!

Nice range of ice cream reasonably priced, a staff or manager? not very attentive though and didn't seem to keen and in no rush to serve us. Overall a pleasant visit.

Haven't been in the restaurant so can't really review that aspect of Sweet Retreats honestly but I have ordered online for delivery at home. The choices are immense and there is no faulting the quality. I can't say that they serve healthy food but then...

Have been to SR a few times now...always a great service, nice environment, visit SR after a meal at one of the loacal restaurants.

I visted here with my daughter for a little treat.. we were served by a very polite and helpful young lady. We both ordered the waffles with ice cream and Belgian chocolate sauce and cream we only had to wait a few minutes. They were absolutely delicious! Waffles freshly made and still warm. They're quite large too so you can quite easily share a plate between 2 people. I will definitely be returning.

Had heard great things so gave it a go. Easy to order online but hard to decide what to get. Food took an hour to arrive but was worth the wait. Lovely icecream.

I was at work alone on a Sunday night, and I really wanted banoffee cookie dough (they do the best cookie dough in town) ... I didn't know when they would start delivery or if there was a delivery charge as I couldn't go and collect due to being on my own ... I rung Sweet Retreats up and asked if I could order something for delivery when they had time ... They said yes and went on to tell me that they will be 5 minutes ... And you know what ! It only took 5 minutes for my cookie dough to be delivered ... Amazing service and amazing food ! ... Would definitely recommend, as would all my work colleagues!!!

Ordered some banoffee cookie dough, when it came (The delivery took longer than expected) they had given me some free ice cream, which was very thoughtful, My food was really nice and addictive however it was quite thin and not very big. Other than that, I will be ordering again.

Went on a Saturday evening and had lovely banoffee waffle it was to die for. The menu has a wide range of desserts to choose from so there is something for everyone. The prices are very reasonable to. It's is table service and the staff were friendly to. Inside the parlour it is lovely the colour scheme is great that ties in with the logo and it also has great cleanness. They even do delivery. Overall had such a great experience and would deffo go again

Well, they never have decent puddings, do they? And this place does a nice selection of ice-cream/waffle/pancake based deserts. Not the height of sophistication or haute cuisine, but filling a very useful niche in the resturant market. Three and a half stars rounded to four!

I live 40 or so minutes away from burton but had heard of The Sweet Retreat and eagerly wanted to try it!It was really quiet when we got there, which im surprised about!! The icecream choices were fantastic, staff were really friendly and helpful when i needed to feed my little girl who was only a few weeks old at the time.Waffles were lovely! Milkshakes were nice!

I've been driving pass this place most days so I've finally went with some friends. We went in and given menus. Lots of choice and the waiter told us everything is vegetarian. There was a wait for our food about 20 mins but there were three waffles and a crepe all freshly cooked. I would rather wait and have freshly cooked than something out of a package. The food was delicious and for 5 adults and a child it came to less than £30. If you like heavenly desserts you'll like this place. The waiter was very nice and answered any questions we had.
