Food is ok but the chef is very unaccommodating to minor requests of menu. Quite a lively pub with a large outdoor seating area. Stayed at the accommodation on site, rooms are very clean and tidy although shower in the bathroom very small. Main problem with staying overnight is the Swan is right next to Thatcham railway line and station so you get a lot of noise from the trains until late at night and early in the morning, not ideal for a good night's sleep.

Great food and service as a birthday treat for me as i work into the industrial estate over the road!

Stayed here while working down in Aldermaston the atmospherewas great and the food and beer was bang on. Hats off to Amy,Lucy,Charlie,Poppie,Jean,Marie,Kieran and Ruby and the rest of the staff for doing a great job and been so welcoming. If I'm ever in the area in the future I'd definitely stay again.

Went for a meal with my boys, food was of an excellent standard. The premises were clean and tidy. The staff? Absolutely warm, welcoming, helpful and polite. Photo is of their Chocolate Fudge, served either warm or cold. I opted for cold with chocolate ice-cream, outstanding! 😋

Ended up here by accident as we were looking for another place called the Swan. Food was okay, no frills but it's what you can expect for the money. You need to pay for the car park and the app is terrible.

Stayed in the rooms for 4 nights. Check in and out was really easy, really good atmosphere in the pub, staff are super friendly and helpful and nothing was too much trouble, even when the football was on. Evening food was always hot and tasty, especially the steak I had. Yes, it's typical pub food, but was to a really good standard and the portions were a good size. Same with the breakfast, hot, good portions and always very polite and friendly service. Could not fault the staff, 10/10.

Had the doner & chips, the meat portion was very small for the price. Knowing how cheap doner meat is I would have expected a lot more. They were short staffed and we turned up on a Friday lunchtime just before a table of about 20 noisy pensioners so service was slow. I thought the bar smelled stale and seemed to have smells coming from the toilets. Room for improvement, could be a great pub with some attention to minor points. UPDATE Danny from the Swan was in contact afterwards and made us very welcome on a return visit. Service was very quick and the medium rare steak was cooked perfectly. To get a steak cooked properly in a pub is unusual, the food was great, the chips perfect, service amazing. Will certainly go back as I couldn't fault the much improved food. I have updated my 3 star ratings as a result, due to Danny and staff providing a great dining experience.

Hayley is the bestest bar staff ever. Such a warm, welcoming, outgoing personality that really makes it a pleasure to be servedby her. Nothing is ever too much, always so friendly and bubbly, such a treat to be served by her. Thank you Hayley, you are the best!

Travelled from Suffolk to meet a friend who moved to Thatcham.....saw web site of this place and looked nice. Firstly, why charge to park here....if it was likely to be used by shoppers I might have given it a bit of leeway, but no shops nearby. Yes, it can be reimbursed if you spend Over £40 but if you have no change the app is an obscure one. Next, even though table booked, getting noticed to be shown table took 20 mins as only bar staff (busy serving crowds) were available to ask. Next you have a choice, order on the app. or at bar, so judging by the impending wait ordered, from experience trying to find table, on the stupid app., oh, then have to pay on line!!!! So no reimbursement of car park now then! Food was average, staff were okay but not a pleasant experience all round. Definitely not my kind of place, and judging by similar experience of their pub in Bury St Edmunds, (pay for car park there as well!! ) this may be par for the course in all there pubs. Won't be Marston's anywhere again. Had planned to book a room on next visit but definitely will give this a miss.

Very friendly service. We had food which was hot and tasty. It was Friday evening and busy so we took advantage of ordering drinks to the table which worked really well

Had a great last night. Also a big shout out to Saedi. What truly sets Saedi apart is the personal touch she brings to her interactions with customers. She remembers their favourite drinks, asks about their day, and makes everyone feel like a VIP. Her ability to connect on a personal level with guests makes every visit to The Swan memorable.

I love this pub. And I love their cask ale—Sea Fury. I encourage you all to get behind it. Friendly staff, great banter, good food and clean. Hard to pick a standout bar staff but if I had to it would be Beth. She is stellar at her job and a damn good giggle.

Dined here once and remember it being very good food and good value for money.

Edit.. Hayley has been extremely courteous and helpful regarding this issue and I am grateful to her communication with me. The car park is owned and run by a separate company and not The Swan Pub and so I would simply urge people to be aware of the charging now in place … therefore I have changed my star review from low to high simply to reflect this in a fair and genuine way .. my only reason for going with a four is because I didn’t eat and therefore cannot comment on this aspect. Thankyou Hayley . Very disappointed I stopped here to raise a toast to recently passed father as we used to drink there years ago, got home to. £100 parking fine. No one told me there were parking charges. Will never return.

Went in on a wet Tuesday night, but the welcome was warm and friendly. The food was typical pub grub but it was hot and well prepared and presented , my 2 female companions couldn’t finish their mains as they were full. The staff were engaged and caring, compliments to Ian our server and Scott the chef. All in all a relaxing way to spend an evening.

Excellent location for newbury but also jump on the train to London. The staff couldn't be more helpful and the food was first class.. The canal just behind the pub make for a amazing morning walk.

The Swann is such a lovely place, feels very homely and welcoming. The staff are very attentive and warm the food is lovely and it’s definitely worth the visit. Also very close to the train station which is a very big help if you visit and have no other travel!

The table I had booked with my dog was not booked so unable to stay for a meal. I had asked for a dog friendly table and was assured one was available but when I arrived all dog friendly tables were full

The food was absolutely phenomenal, one of the best meals I've had in a while. The service was also really friendly and super fast. We had our food within 30 mins of ordering. The only suggestion I would have is to improve upon the cocktails in look and tast. As I ordered the purple rain cocktail and that was the only disappointment. But overall really good service and food

We came last year for a pie & a pint before football and because of that we returned this year, though we didn't eat. Good choice of ales and the staff were both friendly and attentive despite some technical issues with their card reader. Sadly, we probably won't be back next year as we are hoping for promotion. I stop with a friend for a couple of beers and I received home a £100 parking ticket! Nobody told us anything about any parking fee. Not recommended! I will never comeback!!

Only a brief stay but felt comfortable and looked after, The room was clean and tidy, the single room was a little cramped but comfortable... The staff is very helpful and friendly, my home town so I will definitely visit again and stay ...

Staff were friendly and professional, however a number of the meals we wanted werent available - Lasagne, Vegatable chilli and limited portions of fish and chips. it would have been useful to been told when we ordered our drinks! I ended up with a meal off the kids menu for bigger appetites - Hunters chicken. Whilst the chips were lovely, the chicken was barely luke warm. My 7 year old niece enjoyed her rocky road sundae. Portions sizes were good just a shame about availability (it was the same issue last time I can here over a year ago) and the food being barely warm! Not the best lunch experience!

Staff were lovely very accommodating but the food was very disappointing, very waterey curries and the mac n cheese was more like a starter than a main. My daughter then had the popcorn chicken from the kids menu which was 3 pieces and 1 small slice or garlic bread. My daughter then had the small Dunkin doughnuts which were burnt and generally unedible. The staff did rectify this but the were still cold and stale. From this experience we shall not be returning.

Beth the barmaid made us very welcome went above and beyond just made experience excellent.

service was good, the food in places was a little overdone (stuffing and pigs in blankets) other than that it was good. waiting staff were very attentive. Halfway through the meal it became very noisy in the area we were in and we were asked if we wanted to move to a quieter area, which we did. The staff helped us move all our things which was very helpful.

I booked a table for 20, but ended up with more guests than expected, the swan staff coped admirably and we were all very well looked after with prompt service and good food, as per usual, thank you swan, 👍

We arrived at a busy time where there was also a Xmas party on. We had 2 very hungry children after a busy day out, and we were all so happy as the food was prepared very quickly and brought to our table. Very polite, friendly staff, who are always happy to help. Highly recommend

Not happy about a fella from Liverpool who's language was disgusting. Especially when there was families eating very close to where he was.

Meals were amazing but puddings were disappointing. Table was only cleared once puddings arrived. The Christmas music could have been louder as there wasn’t a very Christmasy atmosphere. Overall would definitely go back but would probably just have mains and maybe sides or starters.

Came for a Friday early dinner without booking which ended up being quite a busy Friday. Team went out of their way to accommodate to all of our needs and provided a great service. Food was excellent and overall had a really good time.

Bit of a long wait to book in, seemed lack of staff at the time, but once seated, it was all good. Ordered food and surprised gow fast it arrived. As for the food was a very good meal and well cooked and presented, was 6 of us and we all enjoyed the main course the staff are professional and polite, deserts was a little limited I think but can understand that part, but again fast service to the table and well presented. Overall a very Happy and enjoyable evening for my sons birthday.

I travel from London to my partner who lives in thatcham, I came just over a month ago, I wanted to relax in a b&b,my partner explained the swan, I first Hired 2 days over the weekend, but decided 3,I thought that the rooms were above the swan public house?? I was so presently Surprised 😊 when we both realised that n the 1st car park is 5 converted rooms with own front door👍 wi-fi, think converted stables or garages?¿ Don't care as, the room is clean, own bathroom, TV, I even rented another night this weekend, if you give your car reg when booking in, the rooms have a car park so you don't have to pay. I'll stay again, it's worth every penny, I think breakfast should need included tho, with the money?? Thank you swan, miss Butcher and Smith,ps, love the beams, it's lovely time xx

Parking wasn’t taken off the bill. Very dark outside and hard to see the small writing that suggested if you paid with the app that you couldn’t claim parking back. Who carries cash? Our parking should have been refunded.

We went to the Swan in Thatcham because we had a voucher for 30% off food. When we arrived the staff were all very friendly, the service was good for both drinks and food. Food portion size was good, and most importantly the food arrived piping hot. It was pub food, good value, tasty. We would definitely go back again

Friendly staff, lovely food. Our only bug bare was we were not offered a steak knife with our meal and only 2 onion rings not 3 and no mushrooms like last time. Venue was clean. Photo is mega mixed grill for £19.95.
