We have spent many a happy few hours in this lovely restaurant. The food is cooked to order and is very good quality. Service is always with a smile.

A friend recommended the curry night so we gave it a try. 5 homemade curries, including a veggie option, and you can have a taste of each before you decide. My wife went for the veggie option (cauliflour and courgette Dopiaza) and I went for the chicken Rogan Josh. Both were very tasty and came with rice and/or chips, bhaji, poppadoms, pickles and naan bread. There's a well stocked bar although I had coke as I was driving. We will be returning for another curry night and also ging the Sunday carvery a go. You can also get a takeaway so if you're in the area or live locally, give it a try.

We went here in October last year + we all couldn't wait to come back. But we were all very dispointed. Only 2 choices of meat - were told at least 3 on booking. Beef was lovely but pork was just scraggy little bits of meat. Ran out of some veg .The carvery was lovely. The main problem was the service or lack of it. 2 waiters just stood about doing nothing while all tables were full of dirty plates. After waiting nearly half an hour our table was cleared by a really miserable girl who obviously didn't want to be there. Then our desserts were brought by a lad chewing gum ( not nice). We all said the deserts looked like they had been bought from farm foods. As I went to the toilet the kitchen door was open + on the side were Aunt Bessie's boxes for the deserts we had just had. All uncovered - could have been there all day. This place has recently been taken over by new management but unless they don't improve their staff and service- can't see it lasting long.- Shame !!

Having already made certain, earlier on that morning, that 5 people could be served lunch, we duly arrived. Most of the restaurant was laid up for Christmas parties. We were seated at a hastily laid table by the window, with a view of uncollected glasses left outside from the previous night. Given a couple of sticky menus, we ordered; as it happens, we all wanted something different. Forty minutes later, in a freezing room with unlit fire, we were forced to enquire how long the food was going to be - starving kids don't take too well to waiting ages to be fed. Ten minutes later, the food arrived. In a hurry. Scampi slid off plate onto floor. When it did finally arrive, the food was OK, actually. Reasonable portions, well cooked, chips a bit overdone, but some of us like them that way! We didn't wait for puds - we were in a hurry to get warm. And the chef could do with showing her jacket a washing machine. Very disappointing.

What a find! This is by far the most welcoming, comfortable holiday cottage we have stayed in. The wonderful photos don't do it justice and the small touches like flowers in each room, hamper, cake, fresh eggs, fire pit in the woods, all take Swallow's nest to the next level. John and Katy are there if you need them but give you space. The kitchen is well equipped and there are books, games, torches, umbrellas... even binoculars to spy the birds on the well filled bird feeders. It's all so clean too and there's great disabled access including a walk in shower. I would recommend this place to everyone and we will be back. Thank you John and Katy x

I had heard about the new pizza service from one of my friends and decided to try it, I have to say it was the best pizza have ever had! It was beautifully cooked and the staff were really helpful and friendly, I would definitely recommend to anyone! I have been back to try the Sunday carvery and again, it was beautifully cooked. There is no doubt it is all freshly cooked and the meat was perfect and tender. Again the staff were brilliant, they have definitely gained a regular customer!

It’s a campus canteen so don’t come with expectations that don’t remember that point. That said, food is cooked and presented well beyond any canteen food I’ve ever experienced and the salad bar is by far the freshest, tastiest array of salad you’ll ever be served. Friendly staff too. Enjoy!

The Exhibition is a grand old pub dating from 1702 that is situated on a very busy junction opposite Bootham Bar in York. As you enter up the steep couple of steps you are greeted by dark and atmospheric front room which is split by the central bar, it's a mish mash of Victorian and Art Deco with every single bit of wall space occupied with old photos, paintings, brasses and other Breweriana. There are wood panels, glowing yellow lighting and rich dark red ceiling which envelops you into the cosy space. There's so much to take in, especially the Art Deco stained glass panels and large fireplace, you'd almost be distracted from the offerings behind the bar. Which are not the most exciting but there's at least usually a couple of beers from Brew York, Black Sheep and Timothy Taylors, all priced at the usual City centre prices. Where The Exhibition really excels is it's outside space, if you follow your way around to the back of the bar and down a fairy light lit corridor it opens out first into a large conservator which is used for group bookings and then out into what is clearly the biggest and best Beer Garden in York! A beautifully secluded long yard with mature plants and great vintage wall art throughout. The only slight let down is the rather Victorian toilets which could probably do with a bit of an update but otherwise this is a very much overlooked pub that is superb in Summer and would be nice and welcoming inside any time of the year.
