Lovely meal and day spoilt by the waitress telling us they had just taken a booking for 6.00pm. I know we were a “Walk-in” (5.00pm) but we were told we had the table to 7.00pm. In hindsight we should have said not our problem but your’s and stayed there. Hence no tip left !

As we were on holiday we decided to visit Pozeath and look for an evening dinner. We found Surfside & Rum Bar and ordered the fish of the day meal. WOW! We had the most wonderfull haddock, chips & peas. The haddock was coated in the most beautiful ale batter which was wonderfully crisp, with perfectly cooked haddock, beautifull crisp chips and great peas. I would tell everyone to go and have this meal. Great food, great service from such happy and friendly people. I had to speak to the chef and tell him how much we enjoyed the meal that we had. Do go there!

I appreciate it was busy- however we were waited 15 mins for our drinks in the rum bar to then be told that the bartender had “already made them” when it was obvious we had been waiting there for a long time whilst the bar staff were clearly biased in serving other people (their friends). The website also stated that they close at 12- however with no notice the bar and music both shut off at 11 for a “staff do” on a busy Saturday night in August. I would definitely not recommend to anyone who doesn’t want to experience such bad service, we will definitely not be returning.

Like many others, we always make a point of visiting Surfside when we`re on holiday at Polzeath. One of the main reasons we go, is the beautiful fish specials they do. Sadly, this would appear to no longer be the case, as part from decent fish and chips and calamari starters there was no fish on the menu. Another thing that was different this year, was having to pre order before we got there, which I`m not a fan of. The venue is stunning, the staff make you feel right at home and the service is nicely laid back ( why would you want to rush with views like that ! ), but sadly the menu this year just felt like an extension of most of other venues in Polzeath - posh burgers and pasta etc. Please bring back the fish specials !!!

Me and my family went for dinner to SURFSIDE, as we have been wanting to do for years however the tables have always been fully booked. We were very very disappointed. I have my ID called ‘fake’ and put into a boys back pocket without being told, despite it being a real government ID, very VERY unprofessional. He showed his colleague and came back apologising after literally attempting to take my ID. Cocktails tasted like juice, no alcohol, and came in tall water glasses, for the price this was very disappointing due to some drinks being on the ‘specials’ side of the menu. Over the course of our meal I think there were around 30 wasps at least, with none of the staff dealing with the situation or opening the windows to attempt to remove the wasps. We ended up asking for the bill as soon as we finished our food, with our plates not being taken for ages as we sat. Food was mid. Not worth the price, I cannot stress that enough. Do better SURFSIDE.

Stayed in Polzeath for a week and visited Surf side a couple of times as it is so handily located on the beach. Really liked how relaxed and friendly all the staff were. The food was really good, plenty of options on the menu and good value. Behind the bar there are numerous rums to try-really liked the rum of the week when we were there-pineapple rum, lovely. Best of all was the live music-got to listen to a sea shanty band which made a trip to Cornwall complete. Well worth a visit.

What a find this place is. Firstly you can only access via the beach but once you are there it is worth the inconvenience. We had Monkfish an Chorizo roll and as we were only looking for a light meal we decided to share one with a salad and a few chips. The roll was so tasty we could not resist ordering another! My wife thought it was the best 'burger' she had ever had and to be honest it is quite hard to argue with that.Great location, really friendly and accommodating staff and a really lovely atmosphere make this a must in North Cornwall

Every care was taken to make sure that people were safe and that tables were disinfected before customers were seated and staff wore masks. The food was amazing! Monkfish roll is a must try but we also tried the mussels which were very tasty, the heritige tomato salad is huge make sure you don't order too many but delicious. possibly the best chips I ever had! Had been really keen to give Surfside a go. Really lovely atmosphere and perfect beach setting. Our first waitress was so lovely; smiley, friendly and attentive. I have Coeliac Disease, so have a very strict gluten free diet. I asked what I could/couldn’t have and they had some options which is great. I ordered the mussels for main, but explained I couldn’t have the bread. The mussels came out with the bread on top of the mussels. I explained to the second waitress who had brought our food out, that I couldn’t eat the meal because bread was all over it. She said it was the last serving of mussels and suggested I pick round it, which I cannot do (allergy basics). She floundered, just standing there in silence. The first waitress came over and apologised and offer to make me up a salad with the monkfish. At this point my partner had his main so I said that would be good, as it seemed quick. 15 minutes later the salad hadn’t come so I told the waitress to leave it off if it hadn’t already been put through. Came out 5 mins later, with three small pieces of monkfish with some salad leaves with some olive oil on. The first waitress had said that it should be left off the bill because of the wait/mistake. Went in to pay and the second waitress charged us £12.50 for it. I explained that since it wasn’t what I ordered and the dish had come well after my partner had finished, I didn’t think charging £12.50 was right. She said I would need to speak to the manger. The manager halved the price but having worked in restaurants before I was surprised it wasn’t taken off the bill. Such a lovely vibe there but just a bit disappointed with the customer service. Hoping it was just a one off as would love to come back!!

Myself and my partner came here this evening and were greeted and seated pretty quick, drinks ordered and food ordered in good time although menu was pretty limited. Food came and was nice and hot and tasted how it should. Tried for at least 20 minutes to catch someone’s eye to get the bill, finally made eye contact and asked one of the waitresses for the bill to then be presented with an extremely unhelpful response and a severely bad attitude problem! She very bluntly responded with “you go inside” as if it was common knowledge! This was not explained to us when we were seated hence the question. Then we went inside to pay and to ask to speak to a manager to be told there isn’t a manager on shift and there was no team leader. There was also pretty much no social distancing being displayed inside either, not that I’m surprised. The lady who I expressed my feelings to couldn’t have cared less if she tried. The place was run by kids and no leadership. Very disappointing experience most likely wouldn’t go here again!

My friends and I went to the rum bar in the afternoon and we loved the atmosphere, loved the decor and the drinks were nice. However the drinks took such a long time to get to us but we waited patiently. I smiled and said hello to our server (man with dreads) and wasn’t met with any enthusiasm and I’m quite certain he wouldn’t have said a word if I hadn’t have said hello first. We returned later on in the evening because we thought it may have been busy and they had lots of orders to get through so we didn’t judge. They sanitised the table which was great but the drinks still took ages to get to us and they had quite a few people working that night. Two of our party members didn’t have ID so they couldn’t serve them which was fine and we didn’t fuss. Yet every time we ordered they made sarcastic comments about the ‘kids’, who are 18 years old, and we were told that all they saw ‘was a bunch of children’. We are all in our mid twenties I might add, most of us looking older than the servers. They were so rude and disinterested in their customers, I have never experienced such shocking customer service nor have I ever experienced such stinking attitudes. I also realised later that night that one of the girls over charged me for my drinks. As we left they made sarcastic comments to us again and it’s safe to say we will never be returning. Do not go to Surfside, it’s best you give your money to some of the other small businesses who deserve it and actually care about their customers and the name of their business. The owner should be saddened that this lovely venue has been ruined by the people they hired. I would have given this 0 stars if I could.

A bar on the beach in the sunshine you couldn’t go wrong could you? If you are bar staff at Surfside then you need to study customer service at the Academy of Indifference. After 25 minutes went up to the bar to politely enquire how our order was progressing to be deliberately ignored by the girl, then very rudely spoken to by one of the other bar staff. It was as though the staff were trying to offend and annoy their customers. I’ve never come across such rudeness, arrogance and incredibly poor customer service! There was no excuse for it as the bar was relatively quiet, all social distancing rules were being observed. Went for our last dinner of the holiday and it was very very disappointing. The entire restaurant is very scruffy and casual which I could see the appeal of if the prices were much cheaper. The prices however are ridiculous, we got Mac and Cheese which was £14, this is a lot for such a basic pasta dish so we expected it to be special, it was luke warm and very average. The service was pretty poor as well, our starter got forgotten and then we had no check back for our food. The view is very nice and I assume that is why the prices are so high but still too high for such average food. Our bill was around £25 per person which was was not worth it.

Everyone’s food looked lovely, the only down side would be the cost; in particular of the mac & cheese with chorizo which was £20. When given the menus we were advised there were three ribs available. 10 mins later this was down to one... The waitress then couldn’t decide whether our table or another (arrived later than us) could have the last one. Not a big problem but essentially making the decision based on who orders quickest wasn’t correct. If you go to a well-reputed restaurant with most main courses being £28 and the Surf and Turf being £48, you expect a pretty special meal with fantastic service. We were disappointed. The waitress got our order wrong three times. I had ordered a rare steak but it came medium and I sent it back. The steak when it arrived was over salted and there were no peppercorns in any of the grinders on any of the tables until I asked for it (twice). The wine was good but at the much vaunted bar at the back the new barman did not know how to mix a G & T. We may have been unlucky, but the restaurant has only 28 covers, and prices have been moved north. It is very much cafe style but it has cheap tables and chairs, which do not join up and we did not have matching glasses on our table. We had cheap paper napkins, so certainly not fine dinjng. It’s competitors do a slicker job with greater attention to detail.

Our first trip to Surfside and we thoroughly enjoyed it. It may not be the cheapest place to eat but it's in Polzeath and got a spectacular view and the food I had was just gorgeous. Best ribs I think I've had in a long time great fries and a pud that was indulgent. You won't go hungry. The chef and the waitress asked several times if the food was alright. They were enthusiastic and good company. The only thing I would say is that the special I had involved lots of messy eating and a finger bowl and extra napkins would have helped. But it's a relaxed beach place and a good place to chill and stuff your face!

We visited twice in as many days this half term and it once again confirmed why it’s my favourite restaurant in Polzeath. The Lamb Pasanda I ate (from the specials board) was the best I have ever had. I’m usually reluctant to order Indian food in other restaurants as it rarely lives up to expectations. This was incredible. So flavoursome. My friends raved about their Thai broth. Unfortunately these meals were both off the specials board on our subsequent visit so I opted for beef fillet. It was delicious. I have yet to have a bad experience here. It’s not cheap but I think it’s worth it for a guaranteed great meal and the views you experience as the sun sets are among the most awe-inspiring you will find anywhere. Thanks you surfside. PS. LOVED the new rum bar out the back.

Stumbled across this place on the edge of the beach. Amazing food, the fish curry was absolutely incredible, as was the lobster and monkfish roll. More expensive than your average beach cafe but worth every penny.

I don't know what it was, the location, ambiance, wine or the food it all seemed to just jell this evening. Probably the most enjoyable night of the week. And Simon Dixon with his music was just an added bonus.

Discovered Surfside on our last night in Polzeath. By far the most imaginative menu around. Portion sizes are subtsantial. Vegan and vegetarian food was delicious and imaginitive. Staff were attentive and friendly. Views over Polzeath beach are amazing. Altogether a fine dining experience in a cafe setting ,very fair prices. Suggest you book to avoid disappointment, A little gem!

We had a fantastic evening at Surfside. The staff were exceptionally welcoming and friendly, the food was gorgeous and the view stunning. Enjoyed mussels, lobster, steak, fish curry and a vegan curry whilst the sun set over Polzeath. Finished the evening with rum and live music in the barea out back. One of the highlights of the holiday.

We'd heard good things about Surfside and decided to stop by for lunch on a sunny afternoon. We ordered a portion of mac and cheese to share with a side of fries, purple slaw and chilli mayo. Everything was absolutely delicious! If you're looking for something more than just a standard lunch, this is the place to be. The staff were also very friendly and attentive. We'll definitely be back!

I've been coming here for a few years now. Although the surf and turf is a noticeable omission from the menu (a great experience each time) my meal tonight was probably the tastiest I've had here. Please, please, please try the low and slow dry rub pork belly. You will not be disappointed!

Whilst stopping off in Polzeath for lunch before heading back along the coastal path to Rock, we found Surfside. It was the final restaurant we looked at but easily the best menu.

The best meal we’ve had locally. I had tiger prawn Thai curry and it was fantastic. The snap crackle and rhubarb was something I’d expect from Heston. It all tasted divine and there was lots of it. The staff are friendly and polite, a great mix of formal and informal. Situated right on he beach with a Rumbar behind, playing live music and awesome cocktails. Thanks guys for a great night.

Wow! What can I say?! The food, the service, the drinks, the atmosphere; literally everything about this is ridiculously amazing. We were a group of 14 ladies out for a hen do and they made such an effort with us. All the food was exceptional, service was wonderful and the drinks had so much effort put into them. 10/10 cannot fault it, they even managed to bring all meals out together from the small kitchen! Thank you!

Visited Surfside with my Mum last week where she tasted her first mojito! We then both had the Surfside Ribs (accompanied by a bottle of Carignan) which were absolutely DELICIOUS. Ffion and Chris were both completely charming, they couldn’t do enough for us. I will be back - very much looking forward to sampling more of their cocktail menu as well as the flair and variety of Chef Pete’s cooking!

The building is literally right on Polzeath beach (you'll have to walk on the beach to get to it), with tables which have an outstanding view. Furnishing is comfortable and the interior is bright and has homemade decor. Staff were attentive and extremely welcoming.

Another fantastic evening at Surfside last night. For a change we went away from our normal dishes and tried a new item on the menu for this season, fish curry. Wow! We were so glad we did. Amazing flavour, not too hot and spicy, more tasty than spicy . Served with rice, flatbread and a papadum. With another amazing sunset to top it off we really couldn’t ask for more. Thank you Surfside Crew. See you again soon.

Just back from the most delicious lunch at Surfside. We had the Tiger Prawn Curry - absolutely gorgeous and so perfectly spiced and fresh- the kids had burger and spaghetti - both loved these and the spaghetti had proper homemade pasta sauce. My daughter and I shared the bananas and fudge dessert- amazing! Such a great place - the staff are so lovely, the service excellent. What an amazing view too. If you visit Polzeath don’t miss out on eating out at Surfside - can’t wait for our next visit!

This was our first visit to Surfside in 2018 after a couple of excellent lunches and a dinner there last year. Here you can dress up for dinner or sit and eat in your wetsuits - it is so chilled and friendly. But the quality of the food belies the modesty of the surroundings.Today's lunch was just fabulous. The vegan street curry was, I think, the best plate of food I have ever eaten in Cornwall - and I have tried a LOT of places over the past 18 years of regular annual visits.

I can’t recommend this place highly enough. It’s a small, cosy restaurant (not cramped though) with unbeatable views of Polzeath beach: the perfect place to watch the sunset. The decor is well thought out and relaxed. The music was excellent and the staff were friendly and helpful, attentive without being fussy. The atmosphere was welcoming, laid back and relaxed, but nothing short of absolutely professional. The food itself was not only delicious and superbly presented, it was also adventurous and delightful, with exciting and thoughtful flavours. So much thought and love has gone into every element of the experience here and yet they made it seem effortless, unpretentious. Probably my favourite restaurant, surpassing Rick Stein’s (wonderful and highly recommended) restaurants over the water in Padstowe. My new favourite restaurant!

Our third visit to Surfside in as many years and it didn’t disappoint. The location is perfect, staff are helpful and friendly and the chef super talented - the vegan curry was outstanding! A lovely place to be regardless of the weather and so easy to relax with a bottle of wine while the kids play on the beach. We will definitely be back!

We visited Surfside with the kids and after having been around some of the best restaurants in the area I can say we all agreed that Surfside was the best food we have had so far in Cornwall. My fish curry was absolutely outstanding in flavour and balance of flavours. My husband has the catch of the day which was a delicious hake and the kids the yummiest burger - according to them! The deep fried banana with homemade caramel and vanilla ice cream was the perfect ending of an outstanding dinner right on the beach whilst the sun setting in the horizon behind the surfers still going strong! A must visit if you are in Polzeath or anywhere around there!

Beautiful building. Amanda the barmaid/waitress was very helpful and friendly. My family had the ham egg and chips, which was outstanding. I had fish and chips, the fish was delicious and fresh. The puddings were sinful and beautifully made.

Went for a coffee and was told could only have take away as it was 15:40 on a Sunday, my wife and I are both disabled and I have an ostomy and asked to use the loo and was told I could only if I buy something, so it cost me 7 quid for two takeaway coffees just to use the loo....thanks national trust

We stopped for an ice cream while on the search for our car keys which we lost on the beach!! 🤦🏽♀️ The rum and raisin ice cream was AMAZING and no complaints from the kids and hubby with their choices! The lovely gent who served us got his wife Zara to help us with locating the keys which luckily where found and left at the RLNI across but was closed, she managed to find someone who got the keys So thank you so much for your help lovely people and for the ice creams! 🥰 wishing you all the best x
