Great pub with very good food situated in beautiful village. Warm welcome and friendly staff. Full of locals with a pleasant community feel - but not so you’d feel uncomfortable being a relative outsider. Pie Night on Wednesdays is a big attraction and the pies were indeed very good. Lots of rooms inside if you want to be away from the busy area around the bar. Good choice of wines and many of the regulars were enjoying them instead of drinking beer - how things have changed for the better.

Their website states they are dog friendly and invites you to warm youself by the fireside after walking your dog. This sounded idyllic as my wife was at an event at the Aerodrome, meaning I could walk the dog and then enjoy a pint in the warm environs of a country pub whilst waiting for her. On entering the pub we immediately encountered a black dog (flat coat retreiver or similar), which I was told later by people outside belonged to the pub. I wasn't concerned as my dog is a gentle giant and loves other dogs. Almost immediately the pub dog started growling and then started to attack my dog. The lady behind the bar called him off, but only as far as the enterance to the lounge, thus preventing us going any further. There was no apology, in fact we were totally ignored. So we about faced and left, never to return and we will be passing on this experience to all our friends with dogs.

We had a birthday lunch for 23 people at the Sun yesterday. Elle and her team produced a suburb 3 course meal, and the service was the best we have experienced for a very long time. This was not just a one off. We eat there quite often, and the food is always excellent.

A highly recommended pub in the Surrey Hills. Excellent local well-presented beers from The Crafty Brewing Coy. Excellent quality and value for money food (Charcuterie board/Homemade beetroot and squash tart (vegan)). Engaging staff. Two outside gardens for summer relaxation, on the Green, or out the back.

Popped into my new local for a cheeky check if they still had roast dinners going, knowing they closed soon. I was made to feel welcomed and at home and was able to choose from the vegetarian option as there was no chicken left. I was offered multiple other options which was great! Over all - Fab Spontaneous Sunday dinner! No need to cook today!

I booked here a few weeks ago for a lunch with a group of visiting clients. The pub itself is gloriously tatty and full of character, and thus far mercifully untouched by the hideous Farrow & Ball identikit nonsense that has befallen so many country boozers. I was looking for a relaxed group pub lunch, and having not eaten here did not know what to expect; half decent pub grub would have been absolutely fine under the circumstances. What we got was delicious and plentiful, highly competently cooked and delivered in a friendly and efficient manner. Boggo boozer fare it was not. The standard achieved, from a sensible and well though out menu, was a welcome and very pleasant surprise. The beer is also absolutely excellent and went down a storm. Don't go here expecting a corporate "gastro" experience. Do go if you are looking for a very good pint and a meal in an actual, honest-to-god British pub. Thank you. We will be back.

Dropped in here after a driving lesson at Dunsfold. Pizza was lovely, daughter was looking forward to the burger but unfortunately they were all out but luckily the Pizza was a great alternative. Fish & Chips were also really good as were the Ham & Eggs. We took our two dogs in, they were welcomed, the service was fantastic and the staff all very friendly and attentive. Would definitely recommend a visit. Thank you. :)

Wife and I popped in Friday as alternative to usual haunts in Godalming and surrounds just for a few pints. Such a rustic, authentic pub with a really good drink selection, the most friendly and welcoming staff and regulars. Being dog friendly also a plus. Felt so relaxed, had to drag ourselves home. We returned for Sunday lunch and was so pleased that the food matched the quality we were exposed to previously. The roast was superb and gammon came with so much quality veg accompaniments, couldn't have asked for more. We overindulged and had to waddle our way home with the dog at the end of it all. Very much looking forward to our return.

We called in for a light lunch after a day at Dunsfold aerodrome. It's 20 years since we were last here and the character and charm of the pub remain intact! The real ale was on top form and the food was really excellent - the honey roast ham sandwich and the BLT sandwich were made with best quality ingredients and nicely presented. It's a dog-friendly pub and offers friendly and efficient service. When we visited the pub was just coming under new management and I imagine it will be rather good...

A very attractive pub in a lovely setting. However, I won't say the Sunday lunch was the worse meal I've ever eaten by any means but if there were a league table for pub lunches this would be somewhere in the lower division. Inedible meat, half cooked vegetables and an awful after taste of garlic.

Went today for Sunday lunch, and left thoroughly disappointed. I used to live in the village, so was really looking forward to going back. It took an hour for them to bring my wife a drink. The starters came with the main courses. Staff were very inattentive, so we weren’t asked if we wanted more drinks with our meals, nor were we asked if we enjoying our meal, or if we needed anything else. The roast beef was tough, potatoes hard, and the veg was all undercooked. The cauliflower “cheese” had no cheese sauce and was barely cooked. I was looking forward to trying the sticky toffee pudding, as that’s one of my favourites, but as everything up to this point was a total let down, we decided to cut our losses and go home. Never again.

This pub is set in beautiful countryside of the Surrey Hills. The pub is clean, bright and has a very homely touch with lovely roaring fires both inside the lovely pub and restaurant but also outside in fire pits, making it perfect for the current covid-19 as you can sit outside with friends and not risk getting cold. The owners and staff are incredible, they all make you feel so welcome and take fantastic care of you once sat down. The food is next to none with beautiful ever changing pie night on Wednesdays, Curry night on Saturdays and roasts on sundays. There are also fine ales on taps as well as a great selection of wines and spirits. I enjoy this pub regularly for both dinner and just drinks and can’t recommend enough. 5*

I have just ordered the family pies for the 7th consecutive Wednesday - a mid-week treat to look forward to. There is always a vegan and vegetarian option and separate gravies for different fillings. Takeaway or eat in.I am going for the chicken and chorizo which will come with chips, carrots and broccoli, my son prefers the steak and peppercorn, which is not on this week.I cannot recommend this Wednesday-fest highly enough under the current chef.

Stopped by on the way back from Guildford as it was a pub I have never visited before and it was listed in the Good beer guide...Ordered a pint of Greyhound brewery Seagull as I know this is a very pleasant pint...But sadly all I got was a pint of vinegar that wasn't just turning it had totally gone...2 tiny sips were enough as the vinegar fumes were overpowering...Didnt stay to finish it obviously and just left,if I had been in there before I would have taken the pint back but I was reluctant to probably be told that it is meant to taste like that...Been a CAMRA member for 30 years and that is probably the worst pint I have ever been served in a GBG listed pub....Wont be returning...The dogs seemed friendly though...

Have been there twice now for Sunday lunch and it can't be beaten. Consistently good food, largely catering for local trade, so it's got to be good to survive. The craft ales are excellent and changed regularly so one doesn't know what to expect. These are complimented by the small, but excellent selection of wines that can be served by the glass. The roast beef on a Sunday is awesome and the puddings are fantastic too!

We went there as a group over the Easter weekend for some food. Although the food was average the service was poor with one of the bar girls attitude about as poor as it could get with snide remarks. This used to be a great little pub but now is unfortunately in need of a refresh. It got a positive star as the beer was good and the sun in the garden is lovely. 3 adults for a light lunch respite while clearing a nearby house. 2 had nice soup, 1 had scampi, 2 soft drinks and 1 beer. It all took rather a long time despite few customers. My main reason for the Poor review was, I'm afraid, somewhat sulky staff member, not above a sharp remark during food and drink service. This was very sad and unexpected, as we had last year attended a wedding reception at the Sun that was totally delightful, with the most excellent food and a wonderful atmosphere. Can’t say I like change when things aren’t broke, I liked the old menu, so I was somewhat sceptical of a ‘New Menu’When you go to the Sun you must know what to expect , no fancy decor or airs and graces just a down home, genuine country pub.Locals are friendly and so are thier dogs. The Sun has always served good food and good ale. New menu, had that changed?Thankfully no, beer was Doombar and Swan? Very good. Over the course of a few days we tried a number of new things from the menu. Lamb shank pie on a mash bed, really liked this, good flavours, filling nice pie, pastry was good with sides, top, the full monty. I also tried the mac cheese with butternut squash, the Burger- huge and the gammon joint with egg and mustard peas, very nice. Portions are good and all the food came to us hot and freshly cooked.Service good, prices fair, Will I go again, of course!

The Sun Inn is is a pleasant rural location overlooking the common. Has to be said a bit rough and ready inside and certainly not a trendy modern interior ( which is no bad thing) but nice open fire and plenty of seating including a restaurant area for food ( which as we didn’t eat there can’t comment on). All in all, for a brief “pit stop” did the job and would certainly return.

have been to Dunsfold for the Wings and Wheels weekend for 3 years now. Look forward to a pint and a burger. This year they hadn't put thexsame effort into it. There was no draw; there were no beers on tap outside and the BBQ! Well the burgers were advertised as £4. After saying yes please to onions and a cheese deuce they were £6!! There was about a dessert full of boiled onions for £1 and one cheese slice for a pound. That's absolutely unacceptable charges! I was expecting them to charge for the ketchup and mustard. All in all not this pubs usual standard and atmosphere for this event which brings the whole village out - such a great atmosphere. This year it's a big fat no from my and my party. If there is a Wings and Wheels next year it will be a picnic for us!

At midday, the pub empty, a few sitting outside watching the air show and the BBQ being set up, I called in to the Sun after walking 10 miles, I was hot, sticky, thirsty and needed the loo. I purchased 2 drinks and the followed the sign to the toilets, yet there didn't seem to be a loo. I asked the bairmaid where they were and a stern looking lady from behind said 'you can't use them today they can't cope, use the portaloo on the common' I explained that I'd purchased the drinks to use their facilities, 'well you can't' she said. The barmaid looked slightly uncomfortable and said 'they haven't been used much today so they aren't bad'. I had spotted these portaloos before I entered the pub and could have easily used them without buying a drink, but to be honest I don't like them and needed to wash my hands. I sat outside and then watched them put a sign up saying use the toilets on the common.

We visited this pub for a light sandwich-type lunch in May. We've been before and had excellent food and service, but this time the owners seemed to have changed. However, we were welcomed by a lady who got our drinks at once and took our order. Maybe a smile would have been nice. We went outside as it was a nice sunny day and not long afterwards our lunch came to us, and we tucked in. Both my partner and I had sandwiches, which included French Fries, which were nicely cooked. The only trouble was that I and my partner would both have liked to have had some salad in or with our sandwiches, rather than the fries, as the sandwich was rather lacking in goodness, other than the actual goats cheese/meat filling. Otherwise we enjoyed our lunch, though thought the price for what we got was rather more than we expected.

This is how pubs used to be - a bit basic but did what it said on the tin. The interior is a little unloved and needs a bit of attention to smarten it up a bit. The day we visited they were setting up for a weekend annual festival and there was a lot of activity going on on the common in front of the pub where you can sit. We opted to sit in the garden which was also fairly unloved like the interior. Kids chairs upside down, a fire table left with ashes in it and wood scattered on the ground. We had sandwiches which were reasonably priced and of adequate quality. Great beers, however, including some from local breweries. If you want an old fashioned pub which I would imagine is popular with locals, then give it a try. If you want a bit more up market, go elsewhere. I think the management just need to pay a little attention to the general upkeep and this could be a great place.

We had a very disappointing experience. We had chosen the restaurant to meet up with friends for lunch. When we arrived it seemed we were expected for tea - at 1230.
