My first trip to a pub after lockdown managed to get us in on bank holiday weekend and we was greeted with such polite stuff, josh checked us in and got us blankets and hot water bottles and even moved us as space was available, the service has been absolutely amazing, didn’t wait long at all to be served at all! Massive thank you both to both Josh and Holly! You’ve made our trip lovely and can’t wait to return :) Kerry & Ell

Took mum and mum-in-law with us for our first meal out since start of lockdown. We originally intended to eat elsewhere but couldn’t get in because we hadn’t pre-booked, so we thought we’d try this place because we’d passed it earlier and it looked nice from the outside. It was just after 1pm on a Friday and wasn’t busy at all, so we didn’t know what to expect. Ordered regular fish and chips (cod was massive!) and steak frites (small rump steak). Food was really delicious and skin-on fries were great (not the standard oven chips you’d normally expect). Steak was cooked perfectly. Really impressed and service was very friendly and welcoming. Will definitely revisit if we’re ever in the area again.

As our closest pub we often find ourselves talking a little walk to the sun for lunch or dinner. Always fantastic service, a great atmosphere and delicious food. Can’t wait for them to open again.

As a family we were due to attend and event in town later in the evening, which meant that dinner at home was problematic, so we pick the Sun.This was our first visit since the refurbishment, and first impressions were good. Speedy service and no issues with allergy menu.Food was freshly prepared and delivered piping hit, I had a generous portion of gammon and chips, my daughter a very nicely cooked steak and my partner had the traditional pub meal of scampi and chips. Good food good portions and good service what more can you ask for

Went here recently for our anniversary and was very pleased with the service and quality of the food menu. Very pleasant helpful staff. Would definitely go again. Well done.

Great food great time great atmosphere only downside was waiting staff trying to get drinks we had to keep going to the bar definitely five star otherwise just one of those things will definitely be back Like always five stars that’s a 10 visits this year

My friends and I had a superb Xmas meal here today. The pub has been recently decorated and was very festive. Loved the individual table decorations and menu holders. Meal was excellent standard and we were served by an efficient and friendly waitress Diana. I would recommend this restaurant for a Xmas meal.

Absolutely disgusted by the service provided at this establishment... the food came out in drabs ... the children’s food which was ordered on entering the pub came out over an hour after everyone else’s food... service was slow, staff were rude. I won’t be returning that’s for sure

Our children booked a buffet her for a surprise for us. Staff, food and service was excellent could not have wished for a better day. Thank you all, will definitely be back as your roasts and great.

I met my old friend for lunch and was impressed by the refurbishment. Great choice of colours, really good use of space and comfy chairs. I was greeted by Ellie, our lovely waitress. I recognised her from a previous visit, which was nice because she was as friendly as I remember. While I waited for my friend’s arrival, Ellie was so professional- warm, kind and attentive. The food was delicious. I wish I’d taken a photo of the chicken, mango & sweet chilli wrap and chips - the flavours were amazing, and the chips were perfect. Then just look at the pics and see why we were tempted by the desserts. A fantastic lunch with a lovely friend, made perfect by Ellie and the other friendly staff.

Great food only think less ice the glass for a drink and no chicken for some Dishes and Crispy chips definitely be back just one of those things

Chicken, bacon and avocado salad was lettuce with a bit of over cooked chicken and bacon with some brown avocado. Not impressed for £9.95.

Nice food but a little bit expensive. Often not many staff so can wait a little while to be served and a while for food. A nice place to eat if you really aren’t in any rush

Really friendly service and staff, lovely location and really nicely done up, food was really enjoyable too especially the burgers. Was a spontaneous visit but would be happy to visit again if in the area

I visited the Sun today with family. Whilst the service was good the food was average and they had run out of a lot of things (including chips!) which seemed odd as we got there when it opened. I paid for a regular scampi which came the same size as the smaller bite meal. Sadly I don’t think we will be returning soon as it was expensive for the meals we had.

On a visit to Hoddesdon last weekend we went to the Sun for lunch on Saturday. The service was poor and the food when it arrived not a great deal better. I had fish and chips and it was a question of ‘ hunt the fish ‘ in the batter. My wife had the same and hers was not cooked well. When I mentioned it to the waitress and manager all they said was ‘ I’ll tell the cook’. Very poor.

Visited for first time Sat evening. Good atmosphere and friendly staff. Food was excellent especially the spit roast chicken and steak. Plenty of choice on menu. Service with a smile... Will definitely be back soon.. Cheers

Hi everyone, had a great meal served by Diane or as she told me, Di. Was great, loved the roast.

I came here for a family meal as we were in the area. We were served by Diane. The service was excellent, we were made to feel really welcome and well looked after (especially as we came with 3 young children). The food was excellent and came out hot, the kids meals came out warm but not too hot which is excellent as it meant they could eat straight away. overall the experience was really welcoming and the food was delicious.

Scampi in a basket for less than £10 couldn't finish it all very generous portion. Cod and chips the same huge hot and fresh. Parking was a challenge today as busy with a festive booking. Lovely service from bar and table. No problem running a tab kept things nice and simple. Comfy seating so ideal place for friends to catch up.

We have dined here before and had a good meal so we didn’t hesitate about booking here again. Unfortunately we had to wait 20 minutes for our table and then 3 of our meals had something missing which was rectified quite quickly. The food was tasty and the atmosphere was good even though it was very busy.

Our meal at The Sun, I suppose, was a mixed bag, but I think generally warrants a three star.

Probably the best all round food I have had in a chain pub. Service was a bit slow at the start, but once we ordered it picked up and could not be faulted. All our meals were very good and all eight of us would go back.

I haven't been in this pub for about fifteen years, I was amazed by the make over and how nice it was.

friendly staff, well maintained, food looked good, we did not dine but the plates on the surrounding tables looked big and most went back empty, we only had drinks, ample parking and conveniently located

Probably the biggest and best toad in the hole I've ever eaten! Friendly staff and food at good prices. Would recommend if you're feeling hungry and want filling up !😋

Arrived around 8pm, hadn't booked but we're seated inside promptly.

The staff were friendly and attentive,our grandchildren enjoyed their burger and macaroni cheese followed by a 99 ice cream. We had the rotisserie chicken,nachos and chicken salad all well cooked and tasty. Enjoyable evening had by all.

Only been for Sunday roast, which is absolutely lovely. Highly recommend the beef it melts in your mouth. A good value for money roast.

We booked for 6pm and on arrival the place was quiet but by 7pm it was buzzing however fairplay to all the staff we were served fairly quickly and all the meals were excellent.

Came here for dinner with my partner and our youngest. It was a nice sunny day so we sat outside (not the most picturesque of places – right on the road, but was nice to be able to sit out rather than in!).

I went to the Sun pub to have dinner yesterday evening . I ordered SeaBass with potatoes and vegetables . The Seabass was a bit slim and it could be The sauce on the fish i did not like ,the fish could go under Grill it would be better, but the vegetables was just right nice and the potatoes was good.The staff was nice and friendly. The pub look homely atmosphere .

Called in Sunday lunchtime without booking and given a table for 5 straight away and made to feel welcome by the staff. We all had a very nice roast dinner, I especially enjoyed the beef brisket, my only criticism would be that the roast potatoes were overdone and slightly burnt, I would give 5 out of 5 if they had been better. The price was average around £20 per head with drinks. I would definitely recommend a visit.

I've eaten here several times over the last year or so and have always been pleased with the food and the service. The servers are always pleasant and there is a good menu. Ideal for a quick lunch in a nice atmosphere. Well done to those that run it - you're doing a good job.

Flew in here a few weeks back for a very quick bite. Had a jacket potato which was ok, it was the garnish that made me chuckle... all it was, was the driest piece of cucumber i had ever seen. Don't bother with that next time guys. The pub its self is very nice and clean, with a really nice décor and big comfy chairs. I will return at some point but only for drinks. staff are lovely.

The food is very good. Top quality pub grub. Reasonable prices too. Would definitely come back, if in the area. Coleslaw to die for. Very fresh. Gluten free option too.

We visited for a family meal on bank holiday Monday. The service was really good, and our food was great. We had to send a meal back as it wasn't very warm, but staff went above and beyond to resolve the situation and rectified very quickly. We enjoyed our visit so much, we stayed for three hours. W would definitely visit again.

Not a planned visit, called in on our way home. Managed to get a lovely table with very comfortable chairs. Liked the layout and that the tables aren’t on top of each other. The decor is lovely. Very good service waitress was lovely, food excellent, my husband had Stinky Pete Burger which he really enjoyed and I had Toad in the Hole the lighter version which was plenty and cooked beautifully. Would definitely recommend.

Went there as a last minute thing as everywhere else was fully booked. Nice restaurant, tables not all on top of each other. Meals were massive, couldn't eat all of mine which is very unusual. I had the beef in the massive yorkshire pudding. Had starters mains and shared a dessert. Reasonably priced with 4 drinks just over £50. Would go again. Recommended.

Met friends for lunch. Had booked for 2.30pm but arrived early so had a drink at the bar. Table was delayed until about 2.50pm but we weren't too worried. We could've been given menus whilst waiting so our food could've been ordered.

It seemed a nice warm, family friendly restaurant. Spit roasted chicken seemed to be it's spaciality and was very tender and tastey. The service was friendly and fast. We would go there again.

Had lunch a while ago and it wasn't good but this time a massive improvement. Great service and the beef in a massive - freshly cooked - Yorkshire pudding was just delicious. The Yorkshire pud is almost hidden on the menu - search it out it was fantastic.

We went for Sunday dinner. Waited for our waitress for 30 minuets while she was chatting to her colleague. When she finally introduced herself most of the food had run out! Ended up leaving!!!

We booked a table of 9 for Sunday dinner. All on the menu was available, unlike some other big chain pubs. Our waitress was excellent being very attentive and efficient. All mains and deserts were very good and delivered in good time. Would recommend a try and if you like chicken the spit roast chicken is a must.

Been here a couple of times since moving into the area and both times found the food to be very good, and staff very pleasant and polite. Only negative is the drinks are expensive, but it just stops us drinking more. All in all very good and worth a visit.

a family place to eat with no one looking down their nose at children. High chairs provided. The waiting staff are efficient and pleasant. Meals are nicely presented and reasonable value. The parking is easy. Fair selection of drink brands available.

been here quite a lot and normally good but last time i came here it wasn't great but thought would give another go hoping it was a one off but tonight the food was terrible. so over cooked and dry and the steak in the mixed grill was tougher than old boots. what a waste of money, the waitress didn't even seem bothered that i hadn't even hardly touched the diner

Large chain pub serving decent, but not spectacular food and a good range of local beers. The welcome was good, the service cheerful and efficient and the price reasonable.

Impromptu late decision to eat out and were able to get a table for 2 on what was quite a busy midweek evening for them. Service was prompt, polite and attentive throughout our evening. Good choice of 'pub type' meals available with a few specials on the board. My fish and chips were delightful, and my wife was more than happy with her meat based dish. Good portions to the extent that we had no room for dessert.Good value for money.

Had a table booked for 12 people at 7.30pm. I have to say food was very good & the service was excellent. We were served all together & all was hot. We couldn't ask for for a better evening!

Excellent food and service last night waitress Nikol ,booked over phone and within seconds got a text confirmation as we had our grandson in a pram they allowed us extra space table very good idea . All food was cooked to perfection drinks ice cold and desserts yummy couldn't ask for more .

We went as a party of 18 for a pre-arranged lunch. Food was yummy - hot and served quickly - puddings were delicious ! Highly recommended - my first time here - but definitely not my last. Service excellent.

Staff were great, shame the food wasnt as good.. wont be returning anytime soon.. wouldnt recommend the gammon it had no taste full of fat and tasted slimy yuk..

My family and I went here for my birthday meal and had a really bad experience. We had 6 meals and ended up complaining about 3 of them as they were either over or under cooked or a combination of the two. To be fair to the Sun they took the cost of the 3 off the bill. A shame as we were having a good night up until that point. It has a good pub/bistro atmosphere which is sometimes let down by the food. We have eaten here before and it is always hit and miss.

Best pub in the area. Food is unbelievable and the staff (especially Karen, Emma, Sophia & Kirsty) make the whole experience like visiting your nan for a Sunday roast. Great friendly atmosphere and delightful service all around. At a wedding breakfast, but often eat here as a treat.

I am travelling a lot and never had better service than at our place ! Emma was absolutely friendly and recommended us amazing food and sides ! My friend had burger with guacamole, bacon etc - amazing ! I got myself some mushrooms starter and seafood as main ! The bartender Carl (sexy beast) got us drinks on request ! Absolutely thank You for making that visis to pleasant ! Will be back ;)

Thanks to ALL staff at The Sun for looking after us on Bank Holiday Monday. Mum's 90th Birthday lunch. (26 of us).Firstly, some of our party were held up. No problem. The chef just readjusted the serving times for us. Marvellous.All staff were SO friendly and helpful. Couldn't do enough for us. Food was great and we all really enjoyed ourselves. Birthday cake was brought out with candles lit, and the staff joined in the singing. It really did feel like a party.Thank you all SO much.

Eat here regularly nice and clean staff are friendly/polite always change your meal if your not happy with it would recommend

Came in about 7.30 on Friday,,and as we were seated,a wedding party arrived which put a bit of pressure on the staff,so drinks and food were a little slow in coming,nonetheless the food was nice enough and the waitresses did their best the bill was £124 for 4 adults and 3 teenagers for mains and 2 drinks each. Would use again.

Me and a few on my mummy friends visited this pub a couple weeks ago with 6 prams(Crazy as you can imagine) in the off chance we could grab some lunch following a local class. Emma was our waitress and she couldn't of been more helpful and more accommodating! From bringing us boiled water to warm bottles to asking the chef to make something simple for a baby that's weaning, we felt so relaxed and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves without feeling like we had to rush to get out. We will 100% be returning for lunch again soon thanks to Emma!

I popped in here one Sunday evening. It was busy but I was immediately met by a bar person who gave me a menu and directed me to a table.Menu was extensive and lots of good choice.I ordered sausage and mash, which was tasty and a pint of IPA. Good selection of beers too.It was good and I'd return.

Visiting from the USA it was our first visit here to The Sun. We came for the famous Sunday roast and were not disappointed. It was delicious! We were also very happy with our server Isobel who was friendly, courteous, knowledgeable and attentive. Thank you for making our visit so enjoyable! Would definitely recommend The Sun to friends and family.

Met here for a surprise get together for my daughter. Was only there for drinks but went on for a bit longer than expected. they had reserved a seperate section for our group which was out of the way which was very handy as we had a group of young children within the Group. We decided to eat at the last minute but was no problem at all. Food served quickly and was lovely and warm. Atmosphere was lovely and the lads behind the bar were very friendly and helpful. Turned out to be a lovely evening.

Hi, had a hectic day in the city doing usual critic work... Well what can I say... lovely staff and today Charlie as young as he is was excellent! Bit confused when I asked him about a good wine for meat but it's the age thing and training he was a gentleman and I'd recommend trying this place ! Food was as expected reasonable and fairly tasty..The girls and Charlie were very friendly and accommodating and if inside asked the senior staff.. yeah.. I'd come back just to see Charlie and the staff. ps food was v good and nice relaxing atmosphere too..

We booked our table on line which was easy and got a confirmation email and text. Haven't been here since the refurb (carvery days) On arrival we was pleased with the decor and layout of the place. We was greeted by a pleasant lady - possible FOH manager, unsure of her name, apologies! We were seated immediately and offered drinks. We then ordered and waited a very short while for our dinners The portion sizes were very generous and the food was plated well- see pics! I had the beer braised beef. Most of it was cooked well but there was a few hard/dry bits. Kids menu was great too they were We were asked if all was ok - replied "awesome" overall lovely place, lovely staff and good food reasonably priced.We will deffo return Thanks guys

My family and I ate here yesterday. The food was delicious and the service was very friendly. I needed to bring a balloon and cake before our arrival as a surprise and the manager was very helpful letting me pop in early to drop it off. The cake I bought in was bought out with candles lit to our table at the time I requested but we didn't manage to eat much of it as the food portions were enough to fill us up! We can not wait to visit again.

Food is nice here, but a little pricey but well presented and plenty. Staff pleasant and look after you. Met family for a get together which was a good atmosphere

Food was amazing and brilliant value for money and Emma was lovely, really went out of her way to make an effort with my son. He is looking forward to making icecream with her again soon!

We decided on last minute family meal and thought we'd try here with it being local. The place was packed, but despite this the manager made every attempt to seat us and she did this within minutes of asking her staff and rearranging a table for us...all with a smile. Our waitress J.Mills was lovely and even though our older company are very hard to please, held her smile and did her very best to make sure we were happy.The service was quick and tasted lovely. We all had the steak which was cooked to perfection and was sooooo lovely and tender you could have eaten it with a spoon!!!Can't wait to visit again.Thank you for a very pleasurable evening.

We went here for my mums leaving do. It was busy as it was the week before Christmas and there was many Christmas parties. We hadn't booked but the manager was really helpful. Lucky for us a large table had left and they had sat us there. The food was good. Good gluten free menus. Pate was good. And the steak was really nice cooked to my liking.

Came here for for a meal with my wife and another couple. After being very rudely led to our table by a young waitress, she then sat us at the wrong table and then rudely demanded we move. After finally getting seated we were presented with a menu. I ordered ribs which I have to say were probably the blandest ribs I've ever had,no flavour and tough as a tyre. Also thought the drinks were very expensive compared to other bars in hoddesdon.Wouldn't recommend this place to anyone and will never return here again until staffing and food quality were rectified

We have visited a number of times in the last 12 months and whilst this visit wasn't bad we weren't as keen to rush back as we have previously been.The food was was generally good although the Goats Cheese tart seemed a little under baked. The problem was unless you fancied a nice piece of pie or meat and veg there didn't seem to be a great choice.Pub was busy so booking recommended.Value was good, 5 of us starters, drinks and main courses for around £80 and service quite attentive however just didn't feel the love this time. We will probably return in the future and maybe my review may be better next time.

I have been many times and find the experience goes up and down .We went just after Xmas and ordered the ribs and a chicken dish when it arrived it was just meat and chips ,so we asked for some peas ,we checked the menu and discovered it should have come with coldslaw.When we asked the waitress about this she replied I think they have run out ,I think the chef should have noticed it was missing and offers an alternative
