The concept of this place is really good however it is so poorly executed. Reading other reviews it appears it was ok when it first opened but has gone down hill considerably, whether this is because they know they are closing I don’t know... Firstly £12.50 is what I would expect to pay for a decent afternoon tea, this was not at all decent and I question how many afternoon teas the management have had to think it was acceptable to serve this. You get a choice of what sandwiches you like which I enjoyed as there are always options you don’t like, but he sandwiches were cut into little squares and the filling was almost none existent. The scone was clearly brought and very doughy and the one pre packaged but if jam you got didn’t cut it and I don’t think it was clotted cream either. I was a bit nervous about eating this to be honest. The cakes were nice although I only had carrot cake as an option on mine so good job I like carrot cake, again though it was all pre packaged stuff, none of it was freshly baked which is fine but not what I would expect for £12.50. I’ve seen other responses from management to reviews specifically about the price and I understand rents are high in the city but you could provide a much better quality offering and still make a margin. We saw “kitchen staff” (I am using “” marks because it was two guys in tracksuits/shellsuits, no specific kitchen uniform!) going out to heron foods to buy supplies, to me this should not be happening as customers do not want to see that is where their food is coming from especially when we’re paying so much for it! Finally, the staff sort of tried to make you feel like you were having an experience but it was just lack lustre, like they just couldn’t be bothered. Alice even got a cushion on the counter top and told anyone that caught her eye that she was so tired, I didn’t get it, has she never been in a customer facing role before?!! The final nail in the coffin but a pretty big one was the overwhelming smell of BO coming from one of the staff members, it was so overpowering I couldn’t get past it and was so happy to get some fresh air afterwards. I hope when they re open in a different location they can take all of these reviews on board as I said at the start, it’s a good concept but just not executed very well at all.

Myself and my friends visited today for afternoon tea, all in all I would just say it was a very strange experience. The place itself is wonderful, it’s so much fun and the decor is beautiful. We walked in full of praise for the place. The characters were a nice addition and very sweet, they try very hard but I’m afraid the standard of the food let this place down. Firstly two of our party are pregnant so aren’t drinking tea/coffee we asked if we could have a soft drink replacement we were told no as the manager doesn’t allow it, erm ok, not everyone drinks hot drinks. We were expected to pay extra to an already expensive £12.50 afternoon tea. I honestly don’t see why this caused such an issue as when my coke turned up it was a small glass that was most likely out of a larger bottle mmmmm. So afternoon tea, not great, chicken roll instead of breast, beef slices, one small sandwich cut into squares. The scones were not freshly made, clearly bought from a shop which when having an afternoon tea you expect homemade, the cakes are not homemade either although they were very nice. I didn’t have the cream I asked for butter for my scone, we got a bowl of warm Marge ewwww I mean it costs all of a pound for real butter, never had an afternoon tea with Marge before. The girls weren’t sure if the cream was ok or not so they didn’t really eat it. We sat and discussed if we should chat to them about it but we felt bad because the staff were genuinely trying their best. We just thought we just wouldn’t return. It appears they are having a hard time at the minute as they are relocating due to increased rent and you could tell the staff weren’t feeling their best. Alice even told us how tired she was after resting her head on the counter. She has a wonderful voice and sang ‘this is me’ really beautifully during our time there. It’s great for kids and the decor is fab but if this place is going to be a success in its new location they have to up their game with the food, they charge the same price as places that make their scones and cakes and serve butter, you can’t charge this and cut corners it’s not ok and it leaves a bad taste. Finally as much as i feel uncomfortable mentioning it I’ve noticed it on other reviews, the personal hygiene of some staff members wasn’t good, the costumes need a good wash and today wasn’t a particularly hot day. I really want this place to succeed as it’s a great concept but I have to say we were really disappointed today :-( also the toilets are two flights up with no disabled access being 32 and 35 weeks pregnant myself and my friend felt we couldn’t do the stairs which wasn’t ideal either... I guess the relocation would solve this issue. Just a shame really....

Love the decor and the table decorations are really cute. However, sandwiches are just cut into squares, the scone wasnt the love heart shaped scone that was stated on the menu. It said you get a choice of fruit or plain so we both asked for plain to which the grumpy rabbit replied "you just get a fruit scone" okay fair enough! Cheshire cat looked like she was having a bad day, the mad hatter I wouldn't of minded interacting with us but it was literally just shoving a rubber horse mask in our faces which was slightly awkward. Not sure if the staff are washing their costumes as they seemed to leave a trail of BO behind. They didn't have loose tea it was just a tea bag. It was definitely an experience! ...

Just had a fantastic afternoon tea at this amazing and quirky place. Thursday afternoon just as the schools went back was probably a good time to choose as it wasn't heaving with people (which I guess it would be during school holidays). The food was excellent, beautifully presented and promptly served. The Queen of Hearts who greeted and served us stayed in character throughout our time there even singing the Q of H song 'Off With Their Heads'..... fantastic voice and rendition… I'm expecting to see her on Britain's Got Talent sometime soon. Will definitely return. Well done with the décor too, great experience.

Had not noticed this place before, despite being a regular user of trains to Nottingham. Enjoyed lunch there with a friend and definitely worth a visit for the decor and staff interaction as well as using the interesting staircase to the upper levels of the enormous shop. Comfortable and good service, but not a huge variety of choice in food and drink and fairly expensive for unremarkable standard, A great place for children and parties. Would definitely visit again.

We really enjoyed our visit to this quirky cafe, the food was tasty, a choice of sandwiches and teas. My daughter enjoyed the after eight milkshake. We didn't even mind the little mice hiding under the cups (not real, of course). The Queen and Cheshire Cat were entertaining, we even joined in with the singing. Although the Queen was tempted to chop off my grandson's head when he ventured too close to the kitchen. Definitely worth a visit.

We came here for afternoon tea a couple of months ago(been too busy to right a review until now). Firstly I thought the staff were a bit to In your face and there isn’t enough room for them to be prancing around inbetween the tables. The food wasn’t great either the bread was stale. I had the chicken mayo sandwich which I expected to be roast chicken breast mixed with mayo. I got wafer thin chicken with a dollop of mayo! The scone was also stale. I did however have the banofee milkshake which was lovely. The toilets are up two flights of stairs but when we got there we had to have a code to get into the toilet so we had to go all the way back down to get the code from a member of staff(we originally asked a staff member where the toilet was and they didn’t tell us we needed a code!) I also think the staff need to improve their personal hygiene.

We’d been planning to go the Wonderland Tearooms since it opened but living 60miles away, it took planning to meet up with my Mum and take my two children. What can I say; it was sooo worth the wait! Such an amazing and entertaining time from the moment we stepped into wonderland until the moment we left! The food was delicious, the staff were fantastic and the entertainment amazing. The waitresses, the Queen of Hearts and the Cheshire Cat, were fabulous, they entertained all of us, stayed in character throughout and served us with such delight. The food was of excellent quality and absolutely delicious, so full of flavour. Both children had one of the epic milkshakes and really enjoyed them. We all had such a fun afternoon and my little boy loved being cheeky to the Queen of Hearts and hearing “off with his head”! We will definitely be back! Cannot recommend highly enough!

I was seeing a friend off at Nottingham station. His train was cancelled so we had 45 minutes to spare. We didn’t fancy the corporate coffe on the station concourse so walked around the corner and found WONDERLAND. Greeted by the Queen of Hearts in full character we were charmed immediately. The decor was as if we had indeed fallen down the rabbit hole and entered the story unfolding before us. Alice made an appearance and delighted us with her apologies for the absence of the March Hare. A young girl, enjoying refreshments with her mother, was transfixed and my friend and I were totally immersed in the experience. The choice of tea on beautiful china cups was exquisite...and the cakes looked delicious.

It’s a very rustic and down to earth place that seems perfect for those seeing organic charm. I hoped to go back tomorrow with family , but I learned they are closed Mondays. We are fairly frequent visitors to Nottingham and normally end up taking the kids to the usual places for their meals (Burger King, McDonalds 🤢 and the usual high street trash cans). This visit we did the Hoodwinked Robin trail and came across Wonderland cafe. My eldest daughter is hooked on Alice in Wonderland as it is so her curiosity instantly shot through the roof. So we followed the white rabbit and saw the the Cheshire Cat on the way down into the tea room and was instantly greeted by the Queen of Hearts ♥️. The layout of the tearoom is amazing with something that catches your eye in every corner. The kids had Alice’s afternoon tea and my wife and I had the Mad Hatters afternoon tea. Before our food arrived the whole of the cafe was treated to a rendition of Off with their heads from the Queen which we were not expecting, but was absolutely brilliant! The kids loved it. The food and drink was top notch! Lovely sandwiches, cream tea and a cracking selection of cakes washed down with a refreshing pot of loose leaf tea. The kids cleared their plates (always a good sign) and then were playing with the hats and exploring everything around the tea room. I’ve got to give full marks for this as the kids loved it and haven’t stopped talking about it. I loved it for its quirkiness, great food and great hostess. To find such a hidden gem like this has really made our weekend memorable and would recommend and definitely will return. Thanks for a great time 😊👍

You must check my photos as proof of our experience today!!! We went here in December and enjoyed it gave it 3 stars, but returned today 22nd July 2018 and am so disappointed. I took my daughter and we ordered 1 cream tea (requested butter) and a cup of tea. It was hot so went outside as there are about 3 or 4 tables and it was cooler there. My bill was £7.90. The scone arrived first small heart shaped with a tiny amount of cream in a dirty glass container a duerr jam individual serving (you can get 20 of these from B and M for 99p. No butter no knife. I requested a knife and butter the knife arrived dirty, the butter a thin sliver in another dirty glass pot. Then the tea arrived, it is difficult to put into words the state of everything, the cups still had lip marks on, the tray ...I wouldn't use this in my greenhouse to pot plants in, it was grimy dirty and had old dried on milk and god knows what else encrusted on it!!! the tea strainers were rusty and had seen their time maybe 5 years ago. The milk jug looked like it hadn't been cleaned out with milk residue on the sides. No Napkins. am totally shocked as we came here in December with our grandchildren and have ranted and raved about this place! Wonderland Cafe you have let me down, I am so sad this place has gone to this. How on earth you have achieved a 5 star hygiene rating is beyond me. I did say when I complained I would speak to you first to give you the opportunity to explain, but alas you couldn't. You gave excuses but I am sorry there is no excuse when changing the prices you do to serve customers like this. It is unacceptable and I said this. You couldn't answer me the question when was your sugar bowls last cleaned ...because you didn't know. The Queen stating oh the pot washer must ave had a bad day???? what really? The grime and dirt on your items are not from a quicky wash but weeks of not a deep clean at all. Have you ever heard of bleech???? Your serving vulnerable children, how can you excuse this? you can't. I would be ashamed if I owned this establishment. Your ideas are fab, the theme is amazing ut you have let yourself down and your customers. I would have been an on going repeat customers but never again, I regard my health of my loved ones and myself far too important. I would not advise anybody to go here until you have got your act together. I don't care if you become obnoxious rude and arrogant to me. I have been a TA reviewer for many years and have built up an excellent reputation. I will always speak my honest and my photos will prove what I have stated. Oh and to put the record straight I did receive a full refund ...after having to ask for one!!

Having travelled for several hours by train for a girls' stay in Nottingham, my 2 friends and I thought this a perfect place for refreshment before continuing to our hotel. I don't drink tea so preferred a cold drink - on offer were ginger beer and cloudy lemonade (plus various very expensive milkshakes). I ordered a cloudy lemonade, to be told they didn't have any. I don't like ginger beer so decided not to have anything - not a problem for me particularly, although I do think some other soft drinks' availability would have been nice. My friends ordered a decaff tea and an Earl Grey. These came in pretty pots with strainers. The tea was VERY weak, didn't seem very fresh and was not enjoyed . They also ordered scones - to be told by the 'White Rabbit' waitress 'Cream tea, then?' When it arrived it was a TINY heart-shaped scone with a little jar of jam/cream and one strawberry cut in half - so, rather disappointing. Even more disappointing when presented with a bill for £14 for 2 teas and 2 scones!! This could not be described as a cream tea by any stretch of the imagination. Sorry, but I would not recommend this place at all (although it may be fun for a children's party) I am writing this on behalf of all 3 of us, so please do not respond with comments about me not having anything - I have read some very aggressive and rude responses to others' less positive reviews.

I would go so far as to say this is probably the best afternoon tea I’ve had, in the last year I’ve tried 4 different well known places, here you get lots of sandwiches all nicely made and usually the balance of savoury and sweet isn’t good, but here it’s just right. The lovely touches with the heart shaped fresh scones and heart shaped sponge cake, strawberries etc make it a bit more special! A fun little door to walk through, little prints of rabbits on the path into the tea room, unique decor, welcoming staff! What more could you want! Will be returning for sure!

Visited here today with my sister using a voucher from wowcher for a "untraditional afternoon tea" for only £12.50 for 2, the cafe was easy to find at the side of hopkins antiques and follow the white rabbits on the floor to the cafe. We were greeted by the queen of hearts and given a menu to choose what sandwiches we wanted on our afternoon tea ( a great touch as most places dont do this) we were then given a hat to wear each and entertained throughout our food. The food was delicious, the sandwiches very fresh and a great choice of cakes which were very tasty, theres was also salad and fresh strawberries which was a nice extra. My only little grumble would be the lack of choice of soft drink (i dont drink tea or coffee) all that was avaliable was ginger beer cloudy lemonade or orange squash, i plumped for the unicorn strawberry milkshake which at £6.95 was very expensive...it was nice though. Probably wouldnt want to pay full price for the afteenoon tea but would defiantly come back with a voucher as really enjoyed the quirky uniqueness of this cafe

Visiting the centre with my other half and a relative was treated abruptly, particularly when having ordered a toastie with no indication on the menu of bread choice (generally white bread is given and you have to ask for different if you want it so assumed that white bread would turn up on the table). As it happened granary bread was served up. As I suffer from Irritable bowel syndrome granary or brown bread can bring on unpleasant symptoms so was concerned and nearly ended up without food. On pointing the situation out calmly to the waitress I was snapped at and told that granary bread was always served unless stated.... This was not mentioned on the menu and choice of bread was not checked or offered when ordering the food... Surely standard practice. This made for an awkward exchange explaining to my companions why the bread was problematic and after a significant wait a toastie of the correct type arrived and was very enjoyable but the staff made me feel awkward and a nuisance which was totally unnecessary and uncalled for. The only member of staff who was kind was a male staff member who assisted when I bought a pocket watch from the café cabinet.

I would just like to say a massive thank you for the wonderland experience on the weekend of my 35th birthday! Although my group was smaller than what I'd booked for (adverse weather conditions meant some couldn't travel down), you were still very much accomodating. Both of my daughter's and my niece really loved the staff being in character. Food wise, I'm in the motions of going strictly GF and DF, so I tried your DF Banoffee milkshake and GF/DF cheese and ham toasty, both of which were absolutely amazing! In fact all the food you brought out looked really appetising! We thoroughly enjoyed the time that the Mad Hatter, Queen of Heart's and the White Rabbit spent entertaining us, and including our table in the singing and hat swapping games was really fun! The toilet upstairs is a bit of a trek but made interesting by seeing all the vintage objects and art work on display when making your way to it. All in all, I booked this cafe with my 3yo niece in mind and we had a lovely time. Keep doing what you're doing! We will be returning and bringing those who couldn't make it on this occasion!

Myself and my friend visited end of January and had the mad hatters tea party. We loved the decoration and the uniqueness of the cafe. The food and drinks were very nice. My only criticism is that it was very drafty and cold, maybe some stand alone heaters would help and that the tea party was lacking on the sandwich front, there was sweet stuff a plenty and the cakes were gorgeous but more sandwiches please!

I have been so surprised reading poor reviews. We had a wonderful time and my eldest daughter is still talking about the Queen and her jabberwocky. My husband was even beheaded so plenty of peace and quiet for me. The mad hatter, white rabbit etc were all amazing. I had a wonderful tasty afternoon tea for my 30th Birthday and will not forget it. Many thanks we will be back to visit Wonderland again.

I’ve loved Alice in Wonderland all my life and so was thrilled when the cafe opened. I’ve been several times and it’s always been a great experience. Last time I brought my partner whose not usually into the quirky and storybook theme but even he got into it. The Hatter got us wearing silly hats and singing songs which I loved.

We booked a table in the Wonderland Cafe for afternoon tea and treated friends and my 5 year old daughter for a Christmas present- based on pictures and the positive reviews we were very excited. However, once we arrived the cafe was nothing like the pictures and when we stated we had booked a table, the lady with rabbit ears implied it was an inconvenience we had arrived and told us to wait 10 minutes. We waited and came back to which she said to her colleague in earshot of us 'I told them to wait 10 minutes' as the table we had pre-booked 4 weeks in advance still wasn't ready. Following this, further customers arrived and the same lady said 'be patient and wait' to these in an incredibly angry tone (they simply walked out as they were shocked).

Told the children we were visiting and they were really excited. Got there. What a disappointment. First impressions are that it’s nothing like the pictures. Booked in advance only to be told that they didn’t have much left! Children were very disappointed as they were expecting much more. Cakes were ok but the children’s afternoon tea was overpriced and they couldn’t eat the cupcake as the buttercream was pure butter! I think they need to stop offering vouchers as they can’t deal with the demand and people are leaving disappointed and won’t return.

We took the kids over half term but found the place to be dusty and with the smell of a second hand shop. Despite having told the waitress that we would like the veg option, we were served ham sandwiches, which they apologised for. I then wasn’t too keen on eating the food from our afternoon tea as it didn’t feel suited after it returned now with veg sandwiches...or seem hygienic. The coffee was luke warm, i would have liked it hot and i felt as if there was dust in or on the tea cups. I left with my throat feeling heavy due the inhaling of the dust, so we’re not likely to be going again.

Visited today with my 3 girls would not recommend at all looks very dingy, tables not cleared, customers asked to come back In 10. Minutes all the time. Food was very poor and not much of a choice. The table wasn't set so was missing knifes and forks. Once we did receive our food then had to wait a further 10 mins for a tea and coffee with no milk and then had a to ask for that In which she replied oh do you want milk. My little girls were really looking forward to it thought it was going to be a special tea but they just couldn't wait to get out!! They are probably going to reply saying they was busy but their was probably 12/15 people in, 3 tables not cleared this was at 1 o clock bearing in mind they only open at 12 o clock. Oh and for anyone who struggles with stairs the toilets are up stairs. I will say the only good thing was the scones. And the lady can't add up change.

Ourselves and the 2 children came here not knowing what really to expect. Very quirky, although I felt there was a musty smell around, this I would suspect would be from the items for sale from the vintage stalls. It would maybe be better with some sort of partitioning ...maybe like a small maze which separates it. The staff were fantastic and make this experience what it is. The food was OK but cake dry, and I felt rather expensive for what we got. Can I suggest you re look at the tea party menu and offer a family tea party for 2 adults and 2 children (group 4) maybe have menus for 2 adults 1 child 2 child 3 child etc , only a suggestion but it would have made ordering far far easier. The options are actually rather confusing and in dim light hard to actually see the menu properly. Yes I would go back at some point but in all honesty I think this is a childrens experience rather than an adults. The toilet situation (which I can understand is not their fault is 2 floors up through the maze of stalls, and you need a code ...again not a problem IF they hadn't put a cabinet in the way of the lock so you can't see what you are pressing, this cabinet needs moving. Also I do not think this is disabled friendly unless there is another way in and out of this place.

I recently took my first trip to Wonderland Cafe, what a fantastic place! We were a group of 16 celebrating a birthday, with 5 under 4's and various age adults, and we had so much fun. The staff (Alice, The Queen and Mad Hatter) were fantastic, not only did they offer great service, but they were brilliant at playing their Alice in Wonderland roles. Special thanks go to The Queen who was so good at entering the children! We ordered the Mad Hatters Tea Party with sandwiches, scones and cakes, and with vegetarian, gluten and dairy free versions of this too everyone was catered for. The food and drinks were all really good but if you fancy something extra special order one of the milkshakes, indulgence at it's best!

So I booked from Amazon for an early Christmas gift for a few friends. 17/11/17 We parked in broadmarsh and then we walked in the cafe and had warm welcomes by Alice and the mad hatter. They checked dietary requirements then gave us a pot of tea, the decorations are amazing and the atmosphere makes you feel happy, never laughed so much at the antics of the mad hatter and Alice who stayed in character and were fantastic! Then food arrived. The sandwiches were lovely, Ploughmans cheese, ham salad, tuna mayo & chicken mayo. We had 2 scones with clotted cream and jam and 2 HUGE slices of cake. It was gorgeous. This Cafe is based on Alice in Wonderland hence the name it also has a Queen of Hearts and not just One but Two Mad Hatters. We went for afternoon tea which happened to be the Mad Hatters which consists of Tea or another drink of your choice this along with finger sandwiches with wonderful heart shapes scones with strawberry jam and cream along with a slice of cake all of which were delicious along with the antics of mainly the Mad Hatters and the Queen of Hearts turn an afternoon tea into a wonderful experience of fun and laughter and if you put your inhibitions aside and join in all the silliness you will have a great time as we did. Although we had an afternoon tea the do also serve hot food or if you want just a coffee and cake so there is something for all needs and tastes. Popped in here whilst continuing to wait for family to finish at the Theatre Royal, under which this bar is located. It's a nice, smart little place, with drinks that aren't as extortionate as you'd expect in a bar I the heart of a city, in a theatre no less. It was quiet when I was in, and so felt much more relaxed than I'd imagine it does pre-show when it is heaving with theatre-goers. The lady behind the bar was very nice and talkative, which is increasingly rare these days, so that was nice. She served me my drink and I took what looked like the comfiest seat in the house. I was wrong. I do t think I've ever sat on a seat so thoroughly beaten up and misshapen. It was horrendous. The few other people in the bar were sat seemingly very comfortably, and so I guess I got unlucky. The chair is a minor gripe. What is a larger gripe is the fact that this bar is entirely cashless. A hateful notion. I'd have scored this place higher if they hadn't turned their back on a legitimate form of payment and sacrificed equity on the altar of 'progress.'

First time visiting. We were greeted by a nice gentleman who promptly took our order. Within a few minutes our cocktails had arrived. The cocktails we ordered were made very differently to what we were all used to in multiple other places. One was undrinkable. He offered to make us another different cocktail, again this came but nothing like we were expecting, but at least drinkable. PIE arrived quickly I had steak pie, small amount of mash underneath and mushy peas. All were lukewarm but tasted lovely. Would have liked it warmer. We finished drinks and waited for 20 minutes for someone to come over to give us the bill... in the end we got up and asked for it. All In all an OK place, food nice just not warm enough but avoid the cocktails at all costs.

The food was beautiful but the service was terrible. There are no menus so you have to go to the counter to look at the menu and you're greet by a stone faced woman who expects you to know what you want immediately. Anyway, we didn't let it bother us. We ordered our food, it was served within a good time and we enjoyed every mouthful. It was so good we decided to return the next day. We arrived at 2.30 again to be greeted by a stone faced woman (someone different this time so it must be a theme) to be told we have until 2.50. Is that to order? To eat? Until close? When asked to elaborate we were told they close at 3 and she'll start sweeping round us at 2.50 but we could still order and that they've been there since 7am as if we should have known and arrived sooner. We were only in Nottingham because my daughter is receiving radiotherapy there. She has eyes, it's obvious from my daughters bald head that she is poorly so a bit of compassion might have been nice. We decided we did not want to order, wait for food and be rushed to eat. Perhaps if you close at 3pm, stop taking orders at a time where your customers can enjoy the food they're paying good money for. DESPITE all of the above (thats how good the food is), we returned this morning because my daughter wanted a bacon roll before her treatment. It was extremely busy but I waited in line anyway. After 10 minutes with no acknowledgement, I left. A smile goes a long way. Unfortunately it seems none of the ladies working there know how to do so.
