Lovely carvery meal but lukewarm food and plates were a disappointment. Fabulous views across the park gate marshes and Dee estuary over to wales. Hope they put the food temperature right.

Food was excellent.Staff very friendly and good service. The restaurant was comfortable and clean…massively improved since refurb. Great value and the app was easy to use. We had to wait abit longer for our food but that could be due to the fact that there was a big group of us (13 of us). We will definitely be back and will not hesitate to recommend this place.

Fist time visiting since the renovations. Lovely welcome at the door. Clair behind the bar was very helpful & informative. Lots of choices for breakfast We had most of what was on offer. We also had the unlimited coffee/tea. There’s an app to download which gives you 25% off your first order. All the floor staff were pleasant & attentive. We shall return

Had a lovely carvery today for Mothers Day. It was incredibly busy but the staff worked tirelessly for a seamless operation of lunch. Excellent quality of food and lovely staff. We love going there for lunch and often feel too full for dessert! It’s such good value with top quality food. Love love love it.

We visited The Old Quay today, 23/11/2023. We thoroughly enjoyed our visit. Staff were friendly & very polite. Our burgers were yummy and the chips were lovely. I used a Pre Black Friday 50% off Stonegate voucher which saved a fair bit off the price 😃 Stunning view and plenty of parking. Thank you. We will be back 😃

We had a 40% off voucher so went here for the first time in a few months. Had a good meal overlooking the river Dee. Plenty of parking (put your reg number in the terminal on the bar). Only downside was the lack of any bottled beer so had to settle for John Smith's.

Very disappointing! Ordered meals with family and such awful quality. Staff more bothered about cleaning areas that were closed. Never known the place so empty and when asking for another wine was advised had no more glasses and have to put in a brandy glass. Rubbish atmosphere such a shame. Sort it out!

Visited with family, pizza was cooked well not soggy. The carvery was good roast potatoes and stuffing excellent. The cheese burger cooked really well not dry and was very filling. Fish and chips were delicious, mushy peas weren’t the best lacking flavour. The apple pie and cookie dough went down a treat. The staff were so nice and friendly nothing was to much trouble for them., so as a family we would highly recommend and we will be back. Thanks 👏

Just went in for a pint and the bar tender (Ben) was histerical. He made the pint well worth it. Even though I didn't eat there then I have in the past and I know that Johnny is a great chef. Not only is it good value for money but the view is fantastic. Well worth a visit!

Visited for first time for breakfast. Really good value at £5.99 per person and eat as much as you want includes toast. butter and jams etc. Service was friendly, helpful and with a smile Buffet style and help yourself and includes quality sausage - thick bacon - eggs - mushrooms - fried bread - hash browns - black pudding - beans - tomatoes. If you are a big eater this is the place for you as you can go back as many times as you like. Tea and coffee is an extra £2.49 each but you can have as many refilled as you like - just help yourself. CAR PARK - large care park where you must enter your car reg at the bar when ordering/paying and its free parking for the duration of your meal/stay there. The views across the marshes towards Wales are breathtakingly superb. large outside seating areas if you have a dog with you. Already planning a return visit.

Came here tonight, it was absolutely awful. Beef - thick with fat, all along the edge and right through the middle, didn’t eat any of it, Mash potato, barely warm, thick lump. Carrots - bit on hard side Roast potatoes- very dry, just warm Stuffing- drenched in pepper and I didn’t put it on. All in all - I ate, carrots, bit of mash & 1 potato And I know it can’t be helped but there were flies around the tables- very off putting. Going to be a long time before we go back there again. Come on guys, we know you can do better, you need to up your game

Excellent thin base stone baked pizzas and good value. Came quickly and really tasty. Would recommend

According to various websites this pub is dog friendly BUT only if you sit outside. So if you want a decent meal indoors with your dogs go to Cottage Loaf at Thurstaston.

Fab spot on the front! Food delicious had the carvery spot on all left full and happy, service always friendly and value for money great! Will be back soon!

We arrived and sat outside in the sunshine with our dog. Water was provided for our dog as our drinks promptly arrived at our table. The cooked breakfast was fully stocked and full selection was available, even for seconds! We were served by friendly members of staff that made us, and our dog, feel welcome. Well worth the morning trip to fill up before a day of walking. Welcoming staff and a decent breakfast, a place I would recommend and will be returning again.

38 of us booked for a carvery on Tuesday 27th July, they had reserved a section for us and were very welcoming. Drinks were sorted very quickly, and everything was restocked on the carvery.The carver and team were patient and accomodating and the food was delicious.We couldn't have asked for more, many thanks from 1st Great Sutton scouts.

we got charged £10.99 for a small burger and chips because it didn’t come with the things that it Said it did, when asked about it, we got told they would be over in a second!! well they wasn’t and then we got told all they could do was apologise but was not apologetic what so ever!! we then ordered deserts and my daughter was asked by a staff member if she would like a flake with her ice cream, when the ice cream arrived it had no flake so we asked again to be told by another member of staff that they don’t offer flakes!! the biscuits on the adult deserts had bin split between two different deserts! then we had a card machine put on us while trying to eat the desert. was getting served by all different staff when with covid it should of only been one! Looked like staff wasn’t interested in what they was doing or needed to do!. bin here before and it’s been really nice but the service is now shocking.

Not a great garden experience when visiting today. Litter all over, plastic glasses for flat pints and food served in polystyrene takeaway containers.Desperate all round compounded by the group of youths who were allowed to swear loudly, play music and generally bring down the tone of the place even further. Cannot recommend.

The carvery was terrible, the food was cold.The roast potatoes and the the rest of the food looked and tasted like they had been there for hours.It was mush.I have been there many times before and the food and carvery was excellent.I cannot understand why they have allowed their standards to fall so low. It does not even deserve one star. I was going to complain but my partner did not want a fuss and did not want to be too close to the staff as they were not wearing masks.

The food was good but Manageresses attitude like I remember from school meals" Officious and DREADFUL. When I arrived I was offered a table in the window.I said I would rather sit further inside.When I was seated there were babies screaming on each side of me.I asked if I could move and sit in the window, I expected "no problem sir" instead, she said, " you were offered a seat there you didn't want it !!! and anyway that's a table for 6 " (my table). So what!!! Bad attitude and lack of training spoilt the meal. Food Ok and good safe and pleasant , service at the carvery

Upon entering the restaurant I was pleasantly greeted at the door by a lovely lady coughing into her elbow and hands, which was an amazing sight to see during this global pandemic. Without sanitising, she proceeded to handle our cutlery and menus before having them sent to our table, which was booked for 6:30pm on a Sunday. The reason for booking a table on a Sunday was to have a SUNDAY ROAST Carvery, however my hopes and dreams were shattered and walked all over right in front of my eyes as I was told that they were not serving any more carverys as they were unsure if there were enough rations for everyone. I was advised to either wait around 1 hour to find out if any carverys were left available for myself and my now malnourished girlfriend, or we had to review our menu choices. Whilst I was at the bar listening to this devastating news I thought I would order 2 large Pepsi’s as I was currently spitting feathers! Which quickly ground to a halt as they where not taking any card payments and with the nearest ATM being in the next village I was left with only one option which was to leave and not turn back. Neither of the non existent carverys or the no card payments where mentioned upon arrival. So after spending a total of 5 minutes in this place I can safely say that I will not be returning anytime soon. The only thing that could make this experience any better is if I get a fine though the post for the parking.

Went for a Carvery and apparently we can’t serve ourself due to Covid, the clown that served the food thinks building a tower with food is acceptable. Zero presentation, had to eat the meal to reach the meat and apparently it’s normal to have cauliflower with mash on top and mushy peas then stuffing then gravy. Potatoes was cold in the middle and hot outside, place has gone down hill and would rather eat a flip flop next time.

visited for the first time family of 6. We had pizza's and carvery. All food was lovely and staff all very friendly. Would definitely come back here

The buffet breakfast was great value and all perfectly cooked. For under £5 choice of toast, fried bread, hash browns, bacon, sausages, beans, chips . really enjoyable and go back for more if you have room.

Absolutely AWFUL service. Booked a table and waited over half an hour for them to let us go up to get our carvery, ended up having to ask. What was left was absolutely vile, had to leave in disgust. Will NEVER come here again even if someone paid me!! Table next to us also complained how disgusting their food was.

Absolutely gutted by the food here. I’ve even woken up at 1am thinking about it and it’s making me feel quite ill.Chicken breast even smelt like it wasn’t very fresh and really tasted it, and it had proper fatty gristly bits in it.Bacon practically raw it was so chewy.Chips so pale and hard, could have done with another 5 minutes which appeared to be from the oven.I won’t be back again. What a shame! (Lovely staff though, and it was nice and clean)

Good value - 2 thin crust basic pizzas and a bottle of house red or white wine for £16 !!! Great Thursday value and a weekly visit for us. Not sure what other food is like, but breakfasts are also good value at £8 for all you can eat. Hot drinks are £2 for as many refills as you can manage - but coffee was disappointing, sadly. Would recommend for a family breakfast occasionally.

we order fish and chips, pizza, calzone mac and cheese and all of these was perfect. the best fish and chips!

A group of us visited the restaurant after a six mile walk and were very impressed with the food , the variety of vegetables was immense.

Although we are locals, l haven't ever been here before. We were impressed that even though it was busy, we were served quickly. The staff were great nothing to much trouble. Jane the lady who cooked our food was excellent as was her food. Yes it's a busy carvery, but certainly one worth a visit. Plus it's in a great setting. Thank you Jane, for your lovely food and excellent service.

We come here every other month but I have to say that today despite it being busy the service was excellent as was the carvery. Food was plentiful and very hot, staff lovely and extremely attentive especially the young lady named Lesly. Lovely afternoon.

The staff were more than accommodating.I had learning disabled people in my group and nothing was too much trouble.

Came in for a meal tonight and was pleasantly surprised by the quality of the food for the price, carvery was well presented and the portions weren’t bad either. Extremely welcoming staff, our server Erin was welcoming from the moment we arrived, ensured we had all we needed and were well looked after from start to finish. Would highly recommend to anyone thinking of visiting and will definitely be back again soon!

Had a great time and looked after by the staff, wouldn’t expect anything less. Every customer that eats or drinks in there will also have a good time and experience as I did.

Came here with my family for a birthday meal, I cant thank the staff enough for not only making my son's birthday so special, nothing was to much trouble,they went out of there way to make sure he had one to remember one very happy son, Thankyou

I came here with my wife and two children and didn’t leave disappointed. The lovely young lady (chin) offered to take a photo of the family and gave the kids some balloons, we really enjoyed the food and the staff at the bar were friendly too. Overall it was great and can’t wait to come again.

What a place to eat! The staff are warm and welcoming and cannot do enough for you.

A pleasant location for a meal - in this case it was a carvery on a Sunday. The meal was fine but the logistics waiting to obtain it were rather poor. Having entered the property (without my car reg which I had to retrieve later !) we were met by a lady who showed us to our table and then took our order for the drinks which she then brought over to us but then said I needed to order the meal from the bar - where I had to join a long queue of people and wait for some time before I could obtain the tickets for the carvery. Then, having retrieved my disabled partner from where she was sat, join another long queue waiting to obtain our food from the carvery where the chef was busily doing his best to provide the required meat for the customers.

We came here with family and had lovely carvery and staff offered us pudding as meal deal and that was delicious. They do fresh pizza as well so lots of different options in the menu if you are not fancy carvery. The price is very reasonable and got free car park, just need give your Reg number on the bar when you order your meal. Staff are very friendly and helpful and carver chef couldn’t do enough for you, he went out of his way and brought us fresh vegetables. Thanks very much, we will definitely revisit.

Hmmm, not really sure where to begin, this place and the staff clearly need attitude replacements.

First time here after it’s taken over!!

Absolute yobbo behind the carvery called me Love all the time and when I asked if they did baguettes he said"it'll cost yer!" very rudely. Nobody serving in there seems to give a toss. Walked out

Went here yesterday. I am very much appalled by the uncleanliness of the restaurant. A fetid smell throughout. Also, lack of staff is evident, the seating area, counter and till was always unattended. I had to wait for more than five minutes to ask for a jug of water. The jug and glasses were dirty. Some oily substance smeared on the glasses. Later on, we realised there were two flies in the water. To make matters worse, A VEGETARIAN PIZZA had BACON UNDERNEATH THE CHEESE!! a blatant breach of food hygiene regulations. The rest of the food was cold, dry and off-putting. The manager of this place should be ashamed of him/herself.

Visited the old Quay with daughter and partner first time for myself and my partner daughter been a few times before lovely pub and surroundings had the large plate carvery. Choice of four different meats plenty of choice on the vegetables. Food well cooked and well presented. Staff were very helpful and obliging if anyone is in this area give it a try you will be very happy with what you get

Having driven into the car park to see some great big signs basically saying if you don’t eat or drink here pay us a few quid please!! So in we went and I know it was father’s day and was probably busy but we were surprised how chaotic it was and how understaffed as I know the staff were trying to do there best but we about turned and went somewhere else. We did however leave our reg no with them to enter into the computer for the car park camera system when as they put it “when we have time” so no doubt will get a ticket in the post soon . Straight to the boathouse next time.

Was there 1/2 an hour didn't know you had to pay via mobile, and didn’t have one on me anyway a week later £85 fine, I will be appealing and not visiting there again , shame it’s a nice place but the parking company is going to drive business away

I came to enjoy a cravery as ive done many times before, went to get my food only to be served by a young lady with a white old looking bandage on her thumb, it was very off putting and i certainly didnt enjoy me food, i know things happen in kitchens but it wasnt really good look, but unprofessionable really..

Visited as a group for lunch on Mother's day - it was quite busy and there was a long queue for the carvery. The food was similar to many other pub type carvery restaurants with a choice of meats and selection of vegetables. At least when this type of restaurant is busy the food doesn't spent a long time sat on the hotplate. Portion sizes are quite good, and the cost is fairly low. It looked as though the views from the tables at the front windows would have been pleasant.

Was in here today an loved it. The staff were very nice an helpful. The food was lovely. Next time we come back to Liverpool we will be sure to call again for sure.

I don't know who thought the system of having self service in two different sections but due to the queues for the carvery area it meant that those in our party having the carvery came back to the table just as those of us who had ordered other items were finishing.

One of our first few visits for some late tea on a Friday for a pub it was empty and now I know why... not much healthy choice at all on the menu, order was messed up so my food was sat under a heated lamp for 20 minutes while they redid my partners pizza as they messed his order up. Took agers ways of money and time! Won’t be coming back !

Carvery meal was had.Good value.Pleasant Staff.Table by the window with lovely views over Parkgate Marshes.My only negative comment would be a “little mean “with small portion of meat .Other Carveries better with portions

Went here once view of the river Dee was nice whilst we ate, but food wasn't up to much. Carvery was cold, parking was confusing and staff couldn't be bothered!

I've been coming to the old quay for many years and have always had a great experience,lovely location overlooking the Dee,food was good and if you could grab a window table overlooking the Dee,a very pleasant place.But it's lost something,the atmosphere is not the same and the now tiny portions of meat are often dry and the server will scrape together,all the bits off the tray to serve you,not very appetising and leaving you thinking you've paid for a plate full of mostly veg.its changed and not for the better,it's lost something.we used to eat there,at least every other week but I find now that I visit less and less,as there are better places.i think that if it wasn't for the location,that beautifull view of the Dee and North Wales,I wouldn't go there at all..does any one else think Marcos answers to customer reviews on their web site,seem a tad insincere?and computer generated??says it all for me,it's part of that lacking of what the old quay had.

Went here for my birthday and have been coming for years, was a bit disappointed. The meat was lovely as always, but the roast potatoes were hard and had been out for hours, the mash was uncooked and the veg had been shrivelled from standing too long.

As a family we have visited this pub regularly for the past 10 years . It has served a convenient place for family catch ups. The food is usually good and the staff over the years pleasant. We visited Saturday early afternoon and whilst food remained consistent noticed that management seems to have changed. We ordered food off the menu and carvery - when asked regarding 'large' size - stated 'no'however was charged for large. It wasn't a problem as my sister and brother enjoyed them - but couldn't help but wonder was it a little short term financial gain as the lattes served were large too. When we ordered further lattes from another member of staff - served standard.

Over all a standard ‘pub’ meal for a reasonable price. We had the carvery. Food was ok, however the veg looked as though it hadn’t been replenished for hours and was limited. Staff looked bored and we were waiting for someone to come and serve the meat for over 5 minutes which Considering there was no one in the queue before us this was disappointing! Have been to better Carveries so won’t be rushing back in the future!

Very good carvery. We got the large one as we were starving and can genuinely say we couldn't finish it. The roasts were lovely and just fell apart, however the vegetables were overcooked. Overall a great family place.

My Family and i went to this resturant today. We were looking forward to having a carvery, we were very dissapointed with the amount of meat we were served. The chef must hold the world record for slicing meat paper thin! We had two slices each, they were as thin as parma ham. We have eaten here many times in the past, but we do not feel it is value for money, so will not be returning.

We have enjoyed some very good carverys here in the past, and decided to have a meal here last night. It was fairly busy, with a large number of tables occupied, but not full by any means . We were hungry so chose to pay more for a 'large' serving.

the wife and i have been going too the old quey for a number of years now, and always ad a really good meal. but we where there today and it was a bad (it has gone downhill).the beef was not as tender as normal . and when we asked for a steak knife the waitress said you did not have one very poor. you wont see us again.

Not a pleasent visit to this carvery. We were told by a member of staff to wait to be seated after about 15 minutes of staff walking passed us we asked a staff member who told us we should of just seated ourselves. The whole dinning area was pretty messy and we were told conflicting information about items being vegeterian. There was no mint sauce at all and there was a que of people waiting for gravy for a good 10 minutes with a plate full looking lost. It was a busy time of day they seemed short staff people rushing round no seeming to achieve anything.

Visited today after hearing how good breakfast is.!!!

Whilst the pizzas we had were of average quality the pub itself is poor. The toilets were scruffy and grubby. Carpets in the dining area noticeably dirty with food remnants although the pub itself was quiet. We were given side plates to help ourselves to salad and chips. The plates were greasy not clean. I would definitely not return here again. The one positive note is that the staff who served us were cheery and friendly.

Went down with some friends to enjoy a carvery, but when we got to the carvery counter, all they had out of the 3 type of meats was pork nothing else. Very disappointed.

Myself and partner visit this place very frequently on a Sunday for the fantastic Carvery on offer, for less than a tenna pp you get a super choice of meat and veg and can have as much as you want,

Went for holy communion in family group lovely place clean nice outside views, waited a while for food pizza nice tasty big plate rest of family had roast they enjoyed it lots choice carvery so help your self.no loo roll lol.staff were friendly and helpful .id recomend it on my visit give it a go.prices seem good value for size of meal

Outstanding staff although they are clearly overworked they are very polite and helpful. Matt on the carvery is brilliant. Staff are a credit to this place.

Before it got taken over as stone house the place wasn't fantastic but it was ok enjoyed a few meals there. The second this place changed hands it started going down hill. The food was cold and seemed old. The chips and everything else that's fried were discoloured and all tasted the same givining the impression the fryers were discussing. Would never eat here again. There outside is ok for drinks as the views are beautiful. It's situated in such a lovely place, shame it's gone to pot!!
