Had a fantastic Sunday lunch celebrating my dad’s birthday. The food was excellent and the staff were exceptional. Highly recommended and definitely going back! I’m not local, had booked a table after checking out some reviews and everything from a lovely cheery warm welcome, a delicious meal and great service exceeded expectations. Nice personal touches makes sure this stands out from the many chains about.

Disappointingly shut.., on a Friday lunchtime. We first visited on Friday, 28th April, at lunchtime; the board was outside, clearly saying it was open, but sadly, this was not so. We were genuinely concerned that all was not well- after all, life happens, illness and so on. So we visited again today, Friday 13th May at 13:00, this time I checked the website before, which confirmed they were open.... They were not; we won't bother trying again. I would strongly suggest they should keep their website and opening times in better order.

We booked a table for lunch by phoning direct. The lady who took the call was very helpful and took details of dietary requirements. On arrival however we were told they had not got a booking and that they were closed despite a sign outside saying that they were indeed open! There was no apology and we found the man dismissive and unhelpful and promptly he locked the door. Such a shame as we have had previously good experience here but they have lost our group of customers.

I was looking for a dog-friendly pub/restaurant north of Leominster, convenient for my daughter and her family to break their journey back to Wiltshire. Read the reviews and decided to give the Stockton Cross a try. Delighted that we did. The starter of baked Camembert was great value and very tasty, and my daughter’s small kids loved the pate and toast they had as their main course. But the roast beef and roast chicken (both with Yorkshire pudding) that the 3 adults had were absolutely delicious, beautifully cooked, with carrots, cauliflower and broccoli perfectly al dente, and lovely gravy. Such good value. The staff (and the resident Newfoundland) were attentive and helpful. Too full for dessert but will definitely return!

I had been recommended the Stockton cross from a friend, it was my partner’s birthday so I decided to treat him to a birthday dinner there. I booked a table via the website, where they use open table. I made this booking at least a week and a half before the date. When we arrived we ordered drinks, where we were told by the bar staff that there was a issue with the menu and the chef would be overly to talk us through this. The chef/ manger was so rude he made it very clear that we were not wanted there. We were told that they had a function and there was no menu as they were catering for the function. I will say there was only about 15 people at this function! The chef did say that he would ‘throw’ a menu together. But his attitude was appalling. We were made to feel so unwelcome and if the situation was entirely our fault. Needless to say we finished our drink and left. I will say that the lady behind the bar was so apologetic, but what happened was not her fault at all.

The chef bought me and my new wife a glass of our choice, lovely touch. The starter was delicious and the main was the star of the show, pokrbelly complemented with black pudding and soft mash encased in a crispy shell and the apple sauce was gorgeous. Dessert however was a slight let down due to the limited choice of either sorbet or chocolate brownie. But we did have an early week booking. From chef to a chef it was a great meal. Thanks. Had a fantastic lunch here, sat outside in the lovely gardens on a warm sunny day. Service was, as ever, warm and friendly, the Caesar salad was delicious and the addition on some crispy chicken was excellent value for money. Everything about the meal was brilliant. However ............As a local and a regular I am obviously delighted to see the pub back open once again however, I would say that the pub should reactivate the loyalty cards which were running before lockdown. A lot of local people put money on those cards and at present everyone is unable to access the money that we had pre-loaded before lockdown. Why are the cards not active again, especially since the desire to avoid cash because of COVID-19? I know a number of customers have mentioned this to the staff, but something needs to be done soon.

At the time of writing, most pubs are either still shut or only doing drinks and bar snacks. The Stockton did not disappoint, by providing a full menu, plenty of ales to choose from and wide opening hours so that you could still get a good meal from 2.30pm onwards which is great. We had the pea risotto, chicken burger and also the steak burger. Good flavours, perfect portion sizes, good fries. Value for money wise about par for the course for the enjoyable quality of food on offer. Lovely interior decor and ambience, clean and tidy toilets, friendly staff who were on time and attentive. Food - so tasty, full of quality ingredients and expertly cooked and presented. Service - perfect! Friendly, knowledgeable staff and just the right balance of being left to eat and being approached. As we couldn’t finish the bottle of wine we purchased, it was absolutely ok to ask for the top to take the rest home. Smiles make food experiences! Only thing I would change? Yeah, I was in public so didn’t feel right licking the plate (which I so wanted to do!!). There is a good choice of local beers and ciders and a sample was provided before selecting. The local cider was excellent and one of joys of Leominster is Herefordshire cider. The menu was compact with sandwiches for quick lunch or you can go for the full works. We skipped the very tempting starters as we wanted dessert. The mains included tempura fish and chips and local Hereford rump steak. Both were beautifully presented and the chips were hand cut chunky and steak came with roasted tomatoes on bed of nicely cooked veg. The lemon posset was fabulous. Good coffee. Definitely recommend. Skilled cooking and menu construction using local ingredients.

Dropped in for a bite to eat, pleasant service, lovely atmosphere and good pub food. Reasonably priced and accommodating for small to larger parties. Highly recommend :)

My partner chose this pub/restaurant as it was the closest to where we were staying and it turned out to be an inspired choice. It's a popular, busy place and clearly a favourite with locals.

A lovely old pub not far off the A49, with a great atmosphere and lovely staff. Excellent wine list from which we shared a smashing Lebanese wine. You can always rely on a good wine cellar if they serve wines from Lebanon!

There are lots of 'nice' places I have been to, to which I wouldn't necessarily make a big effort to return; but I absolutely definitely will return here. We were a party of six, all of whom know their stuff when it comes to assessing quality and value when eating out in a pub. And we all agreed, this was great. What more can I say than that?

“Underwhelmed “ , mixed review what we ate was tasty just a very small portion and I believe to be over priced. This may sound silly but member of staff wearing boots which made a dreadful clipping sound on the floor, so as he walked around on the hard floor the noise penetrated the atmosphere. The menu is a little limited, the fish and chips were fine but not value for money.

It’s nearly a year on since the ‘Cross’ reopened with a fresh yet classic interior and two excellent leaders in Lol and Rav. Now 11 months on they are joined by a fantastic group of staff behind the bar and the place goes from strength to strength.

Booked online for a Friday night dinner for two. Really attentive staff on arrival and a good selection of ales and wine. The food is just that bit better than most local eateries with real thought going into the menu- the prices probably reflect this. The fish and steak were both great. Recommend the home made chorizo scotch egg!

My husband and I visited this establishment midweek. From the outset, we were welcomed by polite and courteous staff and after ordering a gin and tonic, were shown to our seats. This lovely pub clearly has local clientele and we enjoyed seeing and hearing general village chitchat. Our meal was absolutely superb. The highlight being the main course, a delicious local steak with a surprising but very tasty lobster macaroni cheese accompaniment. The whole experience was delightful. The staff were extremely attentive without being intrusive and the entire experience was thoroughly enjoyable. This is a Gastro-pub with very high standards but has a very calming atmosphere. We would have no hesitation in recommending people to come and sample local, quality food in a beautiful pub.

We have been a few times to this pub and have previously enjoyed a Sunday roast, but on this occasion it did not get off to a good start. We arrived 7 mins late so apologised, upon arriving we were asked a couple of times if we wanted drinks, we said no but then said yes to two gin and tonics. We then sat down and were asked for drinks, we ordered some more as we were told our drinks had not been ordered the first time. Then we ordered our food, which took an hour to arrive (seemed like a long wait). Probably prolonged by the fact we were next to a large table of men who had been enjoying the rugby and bar all day, not eating at this time but just drinking. They were very loud which made it hard to hear/talk. When the food arrived it looked nicely presented although petit portions. I ate the one piece of my lamp and turned over the second from the veg to see it was raw, I cut into it and it had not even been seared on the outside. We returned it and they reheated it, oddly the same half eaten lamb (not a fresh portion) was returned but more cooked with some new veg. I personally hate any conflict like this as it ruins the evening and you lack confidence in what is returned. I felt queasy so did not finish it. When they bought it back they said ‘hope this is more to your liking’!

Thought the menu was pretty expensive so was expecting great things, I had the salmon fish cake, crispy calamari and pea veloute, then the pea risotto with poached egg. The starter looked great but lacked on flavour however the fish cake was pure salmon no mashed potato which was good, the squid was over cooked and tough, due to being crispy, like an onion ring, would have been better lightly battered and cooked for less time. The risotto was ok, good soft egg. More time spent on looks rather than taste.

Excellent meal, at good value. Lovely cheese scones & home made soup. The Antique centre above was also full of interesting pieces.

Booked an evening meal whilst staying in log cabin near by. Large portions of home cooked food, quick service and friendly and helpful staff. Reasonably priced, in fact we were surprised and were expecting to pay more for the quality. The decor is lovely as well, quite cozy on an autumn evening. Will definitely return next time we are in the area

Just dropped in on spec for a lunchtime meal. Excellent service, very friendly staff, delicious food and great value. As of October 2024 you'll get a good sized meal for about a tenner. Good choice of ales etc. Location is perfect for visiting the cathedral and city. If you need an EV charger there's one about 100 meters up the road.
