I’m afraid to say that this place needs some serious attention from Rick and his senior team. The staff were friendly enough but didn’t give you that feeling of being really welcome and valued. Portions of most ingredients to dishes were produced from fridges in front of you or weighed out in front of you which clearly showed that the staff had little knowledge and experience. The food we had was overpriced for portion size and quality and you could only buy wine by the glass which made this overpriced as well. So, overall a very disappointing experience!

While I can't fault the food, this restaurant has forgotten the basics. Wobbly table, dust on the lamp, tables too close together and empty toilet rolls left in every cubicle. Dover Sole was beautiful though the waitress nearly took out the neighbouring guest whilst filleting it at the table due to a lack of space. Also took 15 minutes to clear plates despite several servers walking past. Very tick and turn.. think the entire 3 courses took 50 mins.. including g those 15! Too commercialised. Has put me off trying his others to be honest.

The bar was nice, but the food was overpriced for what you got. I ordered a crab sandwich woth a very small amount of crab and tiny salad for £15. It was nice but the samdwich gave the illusion of being full of crab at the front and tapered off at the back. In total the bill.was £66 for.not very big portions. It was a shame as we'd been to His main restaurant the week before which was excellent.

Was so looking forward to coming here for my birthday meal!!!! Lovely welcome and we had a perfect table towards the back of the restaurant facing the central bar. The menus are a work of art and perfect as a momento of our visit. Matt, our waiter, was just so lovely and helpful. He said the Dover Sole was particularly good which made us laugh as we’d just driven from Dover! We decided to both go with his recommendation. For starters husband had crab linguine and I had scallops - both absolutely delicious and perfectly cooked. The Dover Sole came with new potatoes and broccoli. My God it was superb - thick, “meaty”, perfectly cooked and with a beautiful golden brown “crust” and accompanied by a little jug of noisette butter. We couldn’t eat all the potatoes or broccoli and we’ve never had a better cooked, tastier piece of fish!!! We drank a Spanish Verdejo wine - really gorgeous!! We managed puddings of course husband had a raspberry brûlée and I had pineapple tarte tatin with clotted cream ice cream - yum yum yum!! Apparently the best brûlée husband has had and my pud was so caramelised and sticky with perfect pastry!! And yummy chocolates with good coffee. A truly epic meal in lovely surroundings looked after by knowledgeable and friendly staff (Matt, and Bonita) - just superb!! Would definitely go back!!! Again and again!!!! Thank you Rick Stein’s, and Matthew, for making my birthday very special!

We weren't sure as when going to places like these you never know they can be either great, average or poor. The food we must admit was AMAZING if anything we regret not buying the batter mix from the restaurant too. It was kind of a new thing to order your meal at the front of the restaurant and then to collect it at the back (other side) of the restaurant:) the cod was succulent and fresh and the chips were great too. We went for the large chips and regular cod (picture) we must say best fish and chips in Cornwall by a mile. The staff were friendly too so would highly recommend and would definitely go there again.

The lunch was as ever consistently excellent as was the ambience. Service was outstanding and the waiter made us very welcome and at ease. My husband had the Singapore Chilli Spider Crab, and apart from taking forever to wade through the leg meat, he totally enjoyed it. I had the steamed Seabream garnished with ginger, garlic and spring onions and it was beautifully cooked and tasted wonderful. My son had a starter of Oysters Charentaise which was oysters with a beautifully meaty sausage and his words ‘they were banging’. He had moules for main and said they were the best oysters he had ever tasted. My daughter-in-law had the Indonesian Seafood Curry and found it deliciously creamy and was accompanied with a salad which complimented the curry with it taste and texture extremely well. We will be back next week before returning home without a doubt!

Was very much looking forward to having dinner here with friends very much in need of a good night out. Due to COVID-19 it was never going to be a normal dining experience but social distancing was nicely managed and a one way system around the restaurant was in place. The staff seemed unsure on the face mask policy, some didn’t wear them at all and those who did kept pulling them from their faces in order to speak with us. The staters arrived with the soup & sushimi being delicious whilst the 2x crab linguine consisted of a large portion of linguine & 3 tiny pieces of crab meat. The main meals were equally unimpressive although the fish curry being the exception and was very good the Dover soles were over cooked and over seasoned, the lobster risotto was incredibly wet with only 3 tiny pieces of lobster decorating the dish. Overall the food, with the exception of the side dishes of which the cabbage was the star, was a huge disappointment being over priced over seasoned and over rated. A visit to the toilets was like a visit to the restrooms in a very busy motorway service station at the height of the holiday season - water and toilet paper everywhere. It looked as if it hadn’t been serviced all day. Not a place to go back to in a hurry.

The room in the seafood restaurant was lovely and very comfortable. The room had a 4 poster in a standard room. No views but that didn’t matter. However the dining experience was mediocre. We dined a st Petroc bistro. And stayed at seafood restaurant. We had looked at the menu before we arrived and decided that there was a great deal of choice and not much difference between the two restaurants. We had decided to have lobster and chips before we arrived. When we arrived the lobster was not on the menu. We were VERY disappointed. The evening just went from bad to worse. We waited 50 mins between courses, when dessert arrived it was Luke warm. I would not eat in St Pertoc Bistro again. Very disappointed. To top it all a party of 4 came in at 9.39pm and ordered lobster. Talk about rub salt in the wounds. Dry very disappointed.

OMG!!! Second attempt at a Rick Stein restaurant in 2 days at 2 different locations but I should have learnt the first time. Again please note that the food is nice. Portions are smaller than normal chippies but they have a captive market bec of the name. Bad bits: if I worked at the pace the staff work there I would be sacked in my office and in fact I would sack myself!! Who chose the team and in fact do they have a manager? Ordered at 12:15 when the takeaway opened and we were order 21. It took 50 minutes to get our food. To think they only do a limited menu!! Again the place is using the Ruck Stein name and I am sure the chef deserves his accolades but the service at his restaurant takes the proverbial!!I thought it was the staff only who were rubbish.... maybe it starts at the top???

The fishmongers run by Rick Stein in Padstow is very over-priced.It's very sad, but if a company gets a monopoly over supply in a given area the prices no longer reflect competition. On a national scale it would not be permitted. There is a proper traditional fish monger in Newquay which is cheaper and better. We continued with Mr Stein's shop for a couple of years, finally we had had enough; an additional 15 minutes in the car to Newquay is worth it.

Very Very disappointing this was my fourth visit and the service and food quality is below average again , why with such a reputation is the service and food allowed to be below expectations, my wine choice was Meursault at £90 a bottle after a bottle of champagne which was good and then the Meursault arrived warm when I complained about its temperature the waiter offered to put it in a freezer!! , I said no please replace the bottle with a chilled one not from a freezer , he arrived back with the same bottle in a ice bucket so I reported this to the manager who was not helpful at all she just told me every-bottle was at 7 c I informed her mine was more like 13c and she could not explain why (, I could after seeing the wine cellar )She asked me what I wanted I replied a bottle of wine at the correct temperature nothing else She eventually turned up with another bottle at the same temperature most unhelpful!I then attended the toilet to then see there very poor wine store which was a room with a glass door very untidy is this what we should expect from a high class restaurant The food for me after eating at Paul Ainsworth on the Wednesday night which was superb for a pub was very average for its cost Would someone please kick this place into shape as it has a large customer base that expect standards to be delivered and it is very disappointing when we are all hopeful of a special experience

I felt as if I had been conned, we went in and the menu was on the table. The water arrived and asked what we wanted from the menu, we order 2 haddock and chips plus 2 teas total cost £30.50.Whilst eating they turned one of the notices, and it offered a winter special of fish, chips and tea for less than £10.On paying the bill I mentioned that I was not happy as the waiter didn’t offer this, and that it wasn’t mentioned in the menu. The reply I got was that it was new menus and anyway we got haddock and a much larger portion. What a poor response, not very customer friendly. The fish and chips was cooked OK but at £12.80 for 1 to be honest it was not much different from what I get at our local fish and chip shop for less than £6.00 and its haddock. So it’s 3 for the food, 1 for the price and zero for the service.I did notice on the menu that they charge extra for tartare sauce, so watch out if they ask if you want it.They really too much on the name the service is terrible.

We have been coming to padstow on family holidays for at least 10 years and eating at the seafood restaurant for about 6/7 years, the meals have been up and down but generally good with great service and seafood at its best, we ate on the 30/12/19 it was my sons 21st the following day so thought of no better way to spend the evening there. I booked up in July as we are a party of 8 with family and friends we arrived and as usual the waiter was great and good nibbles were provided, we ordered a couple of sashimi starters which were ok, then our mains the big fruits Der mer was not available due to recent bad weather which was a shame as myself and daughter always share the dish but went for a small fruits der mer each it was un edible all the food was obviously out of date (please see pic of scallops) and the langoustines were tiny (again see pics) there were smaller than the slice of lemon ! The mussels you struggled to pull them from there shell and scallops tough and came apart in bits ! My wife and other daughter had the mussels as a main and couldn’t eat them, they were obviously out of date and no way they should have been served. My eldest daughter (a veggie) had the tempura battered vegetables whilst eating it was struggling to breath and had to start drinking water heavily, there was a battered whole chilli in the dish ! I can handle spicy food so tried a piece to see how bad it was and my mouth was on fire. The most frustrating ordeal of the meal was when I spoke to the manager who told me the langoustines were fine and that’s the size we serve them !! He did admit there should not be a chilli in the tempura dish and again didn’t believe us, we made him try some and didn’t see him again !! I’m not sure if they were saving the better seafood for the news years eve banquet or just serving out of date food but it was an awful experience especially for what we thought was a special family occasion, they did admit fault and halved our bill but the food was of such a poor quality and the manager blatant lies mean we will never return and I will endeavour to make sure I tell everyone of our shocking experience

We had to try this Seafood Bar when in Padstow. Rick Stein is, of course, famous for his seafood. The fish and chips is on special offer during Winter and so we tried it out.The cafe is somewhat primitive in that customers are seated on long benches which can be a little cramped. This seemed to add to the atmosphere rather than be a problem.Staff were friendly and the cafe was clean. The fish was a of very good quality and the chips were good too!The value was excellent except for extras such as mushy peas and Tatar sauce which together added 50% to the cost of the meal. That aside, the meal was great and well worth the visit.

My husband took me here for a special lunch on our holiday on Cornwall. Where do I begin. From the greeting at the front desk, waitress at our table, very knowledgable about the wine and also the fish courses we ordered. I had the risotto with cuttlefish which was absolutely delicious. Just the right bite to the risotto and the fish was well seasoned, with just a clever hint of citrus. My husband had the fish soup to start. Only ever had similar in France which was just as tasty! Mains were again from the a la carte, I had the monk fish with fennel and garlic and hubby had the halibut with holindaise which he said was magnificent. No food envy though, all very delicious. Finished with the yummy chocolate fondant served with raspberry marshmallow. How clever. All in all a wonderfully lunch experience. Can’t wait to be back. An asset to Cornwall.

Interesting venue, in that you can eat some fish or shellfish, see it being cooked and also buy some to take home, all of which we did. My potted shrimps were turned out rather messily onto the plate, instead of being served in a ramekin, and my sashimi was missing the ginger, but the waitress fixed that quickly. My friend unfortunately did not enjoy her mussels, although they looked good. As most of the frontage was open, it was a bit chilly, which was a shame. But the dressed crab we bought to take home was wonderful!

If you are looking for a no thrills style place to eat, this is the place to go. The decor is great with various fishe paintings on the background walls, which give the ambience colour and life. There are small counters that go around the chef area, so you can see him cook certain foods in front of you. Alternatively, there is a bank of seats of about 8 if you don't mind sharing your table with strangers. There is also a few set of chairs facing the wine and optics area, but here you miss any view outside other than see the waiter going to the cash till and pouring drinks. So we shared a table and we met a lovely elderley couple that were on their holiday and the conversation was welcomed. I ordered mussels in garlic and wine sauce which came with bread. This was beautiful and every drop of sauce was soaked into my dipping bread. My sister chose the 100g lobster. Which was a better size than I thought. The waiter was very cheerful and polite. At the end of the eating area, you could even buy fresh fish from the fishmonger. I heard our waiter tell someone that they were happy to freeze the fish for them and they could go enjoy Padstow and come back later to collect it. A very kind gesture. Overall a really lovely rustic and quirky place to eat fresh fish. All staff were friendly. Probably this is better than the other posh restaurants in the area. It is just behind Rick Stein's cookery school. I would definitely come back again!

Seafood sashimi followed by fruits de mer and Roll mop, it was all very nice if a little too chilled.

Had Sunday lunch and both husband and I agree it was one of the best meals we have ever eaten. The restaurant is in a great location and is beautiful inside. The service was wonderful as was the menu. We both opted for seafood which was wonderful.

This is by far one of the best places I’ve ever been! My fiancée and step son shared the seafood sharing bowl and I had a sashimi. It’s brilliant to sit and watch your food be prepared, and it was just so fresh, simple and tasty. Friendly service with a smile. Perfect.

Delightful and delicious from beginning to end. We sat at the main bar so that we could watch the friendly and efficient chef preparing our food and also watch the activity in the lobster and crab tanks! We were all really pleased with our dishes - each one delicious; oysters, sashimi, Thai fish cakes, prawn cocktail, mussels and hot smoked salmon salad. With two glasses of excellent Picpoul and a posh lemonade, the bill was £67 (service not included). A really enjoyable experience! Will definitely return. And there was no queue - and no eco-waste (their fish and chip café serves everything in throwaway boxes not on crockery?).

We’re back in the foodie Mecca of Padstow and went to Ricks seafood bar. We sat at the bar and were greeted by a lovely lady called Becca. She gave suggestions and was charming and helpful. We ordered fish cakes, smoked salmon and horseradish cream, a salad and some oysters. It was all delicious and the place was very relaxed in comparison to the busyness of Padstow in general. We were also served by another young lady named Liz who was also delightful (we wish her well with her exams) both Becca and Liz made this relaxed dining experience a joy! Would highly recommend if you like real seafood without the chips!

Popped in to purchase some bread and made our way to the deli to get a couple more items. The young man who served us asked if we wanted anything else, I replied no and said I also had the bread to pay for - he advised (politely) that we were to pay at the till at the side of the shop. His colleague picked up a sign that was placed down the other end of the deli, leaned in front of him, smiling whilst saying "have you seen this?" It was a sign advising customers to pay at the till. Probably thought she was being clever and I was not as I was obviously one of many customers who had committed the same silly mistake by not reading the sign and following its instructions. So to that extremely rude lady I'd say perhaps you should have waited until I'd walked away before doing what you did, and after so many people had obviously made the same mistake you should have had the sense to realise the sign was probably positioned rather stupidly? Would you agree? A customer service training course would also be worth thinking about....pick up a few tips on how not to be rude. All other members of staff were very polite and helpful.

Came here for a visit with a couple of friends, good friendly service you have to wait to be seated so there can be a bit of a queue but well worth the wait. We did not have to wait that long about 10 /15 mins to be seated as we went in July and it was busy. The service was great and well organised, we had fish and chips with some whine and a beer with 1 soft drink the the price came to £49.55 for 3 people about £10/ £12 pounds for the fish and chips 1 glass of wine was £5.50 but there are quite a few choices, a pint of beer £4.95. The tartare sauce is £2.40 a portion and is generous. size. The food is served in cardboard containers which was not a problem the fish was so delicious. I have also eaten in the restaurant as well which is further down the road which is just as fantastic, they also have a take away fish and chip shop next to where we were which was just a busy all in all a great lunch would go again!!! Well done to the staff too !!!!

I had lunch with a group of friends. Eight to the table. The service was so bad we didn`t see the same wait staff person twice. The trouble started with the initial drinks order. Half got their drinks, the others didn`t . We waited 15 minutes and no staff came back to the table. We had to get up and find someone to serve us.

I bought a cornish crab sandwich from the deli section. I was prepared to pay the price due to the reputation of the man. It must be good right? Wrong, bread not fresh and crab meat filling bland almost tasteless. I would say it was poor value if I'd paid £2.50 for it, but at nearly 4 times that price I would suggest it is daylight robbery!

Popped in to take a look and bought some fresh prawns and cockles to takeaway. Nicely presented fish and shellfish. Our food was delicious and nice to see traditional harbour/seaside food instead of junk food that seems to be taking over!

After a cycle ride on the Camel trail I tried a haddock and clotted cream pasty. Wow, wow, wow absolutely fantastic and a must try. Followed this with a thunder and lightning ice cream. The shop is full of deli items to buy, seems a little pricey but you get what you pay for.

Yes food was ok yes I would eat there again. They have dog area your seating out in the freezing cold loads off seagulls about. Because your seating outside you of course everything is in a paper bag and plastic case. Not ECO freely. Then you got the weather and wind to deal with your trying to eat your meal. You do pay quite a lot. Would you have a child in the freezing cold. No. They should put a conservatory at the back for dog owners. So we don’t freeze to death and we can eat in the warmth not worry about wind or seagulls when eating a meal especially what your paying for. You would expect to seat in the warmth. I’m not happy.

Booked for lunch in well in advance and took a 5 year old and a 9 year old. They are not fussy fussy but put chicken nuggets and chips in front of them and that’s what they will eat. However with a child’s menu consisting of salt and pepper squid salad for a starter and Malaysian fish curry for main they thankfully didn’t get that option. There are still hake goujons, meatballs and spaghetti, which the little one tried, and we all had to try! They were Superb.

My girlfriend treated me to a trip to Cornwall for my birthday, the highlight of which was due to be a trip to Rick Stein’s flagship seafood restaurant in Padstow - something i’d hoped to do for years - a long wait (over an hour and a half for mains) and underwhelming food left us rather disappointed.

Such a warm welcome from everyone and enjoyed seeing the locals at the bar laughing and enjoying themselves, a real feel of Cornish community about the place. Extensive menu so you don’t have to just stick to fish and chips, fish pie, curried cod and prawns to name but a few other choices. If you can get a window seat above the old lifeboat launch ramp do it. Enjoyed our meal here and a must visit if you are in the area.

We ordered lobster roll expecting some beautifully presented lobster curled round a tasty dressing. What turned up was a scant tablespoon of chopped overcooked lobster in a cold, cheap, tasteless white finger roll of bread that would have disgraced the bargain shelf of the cheapest supermarket. It was inedible. The side of hispi cabbage was well cooked, thankfully, or I would have left feeling very hungry. There are no loos. You have to use the dimly lit and droughty public loos in the adjacent council carpark. This is possibly the worst restaurant in St. Ives.

My husband has followed Dan Dan the Lobster Man on Facebook and we visited Porthleven purely to eat here. Sadly we were disappointed. The food was expensive and the crab sandwich was bland. We waited about 45 minutes for a bland crab sandwich and a pot of cockles. The cockles were tasty. Other people sitting near us had a sharing platter which looked good. Go and try it and make your own mind up.
