Steak on Sea in Wirral

We ate here while staying at the hotel. Firstly, the breakfasts were brilliant. Lots of choices from cereal and pastries to full english breakfast. We also had dinner there on the first night. The starters were delicious: mussels and bruschetta. But the mains we had could do with a little more work. Unfortunately, my pork belly was too salty, and my partner's thai green curry had a flavour to it, which we both felt didn't quite go with the dish. The staff were brilliant, and it is a nice setting for dinner with great views over the sea.

Had a lovely meal here with a bottle of wine. Food was lovely and so were the staff. Waited a while for our food but we weren’t planning to go anyway else so that wasn’t a problem but you always get the ones that complain and demand a discount! Your on holiday why rush it.

It was a wet, windy oh so miserably night in Brighton. We came to eat, not expecting anything very much. WRONG!! We understand that the chefs are Chris and Lee, so talented. Our food was inventive and totally delicious. A brilliant dining experience. Thank you.

Always have the fish and chips when i visit the Wardroom and the breakfasts are fantastic too ..Friendly helpful staff

We had a lovely meal here. Soup was delicious as was main course. Well cooked and presented food. My only complaints was that I realised afterwards I’d been charged full dessert price even though I only had wanted one scoop of ice cream. Would eat here again.

Was really impressed the food was excellent 10outn10 I think this was the biggest and best burger I had The starter was also nicely presented and cooked to perfection All the staff are very professional Well with the visit. Just come on a empty stomach Can't comment on desert but judging by the straters Ans main I don't think I'll be let down I have tried a few restaurants in Brighton Ans this is far the best

Had a really lovely meal here yesterday evening with 2 friends on a day out in Brighton. Food was exceptional, service attentive & all in a very calm, cool restaurant attached to The Ship Hotel. Prices of the meals were very reasonable. Entertainment in the bar was a bonus. Would thoroughly recommend The Wardroom.

We are staying at the Old Ship Inn where the restaurant is. We had dinner and the food and service were very good and not a complaint about anything.

I ordered the triple cheese & caramelised onion sandwich for £8.50. When it arrived the bread was stale & dry so I had to return it. The 2nd sandwich they brought did have fresh bread but the filling was awful. Mainly chutney with teaspoon of grated cheese!! An absolute joke!! I ate the chips & picked at the sandwich. Total waste of money. My friend ordered the egg mayonnaise and that was awful too!! I will never return!

A lovely restaurant with great food. Lots of choice for vegans/vegetarians. I recommend the vegan dirty nachos! As with everywhere at the moment the service was slow, not so much in terms of ordering or getting your food, but certainly in the clearing away. That said, the staff were friendly and apologetic and gave us our cocktails on the house to make up for the wait. A really nice place to spend an evening!

Great location as it’s very close to the beach. Didn’t have to wait too long to be seated and order drinks and food, so was off to a good start. Unfortunately the main meal ruined the whole experience. My partner and I both ordered fish and chips, but with it containing so many bones and not even being cooked properly (the batter was very doughy and chewy), I couldn’t even finish half of the whole fish! Seemed like a rush job. What’s worse is we had to pay for the disappointment! I told the waitress that I didn’t enjoy my meal, and that I wouldn’t pay for that part. But she just ignored me and said she’d tell the chef. Definitely won’t be going back there!

Absolute pants. Not a busy evening shocking customer service And have a service charge for the privilege of bringing our drinks to us 40 minutes later!! Waiter was clueless the glass smelt weird , safe to say we won’t be returning ever

Food came slow, but Konstantin got onto it and created a great service recovery for us. Really appreciated the effort. Also good music and atmosphere from the DJ. Would suggest some background music when the set finishes.

Went for afternoon tea, it was delicious. They did coronation chicken sandwich, so at time of booking requested plain chicken or chicken mayonnaise. Whilst waiting for food a waitress came over & apologised & said that chef had not read her note so was preparing the chicken now & there would be a wait & offered complimentary drink for the delay. I did accept as she seemed adamant that I should. However, we booked for 2.30pm. The Afternoon tea was served at 2.38pm! hardly a wait. As we had this on Friday 02/10 & were coming home on 03/10 we were unable to book a dinner there. I certainly would have done based on the attentive service & attention to detail. To be honest this sealed a deal for us for the Hotel (The old Ship) & we have booked for next April for our wedding anniversary & will certainly be having afternoon tea there again!

Buen desayuno, pero sin buffet debido a Covid, el personal trajo comida, así que solo comí un desayuno caliente, no probé cereales ni pasteles, el personal parecía muy bueno y la comida era buena.

Visité con un amigo. La camarera nos llamó la atención que podríamos tener una comida de 3 platos para 10 bajo el trato de ayudar a comer. Esto fue nada menos que un valor excepcional.Para empezar, el conejo era un plato delicioso. El pollo supremo delicioso también. Sin embargo, cuando se tomaron nuestros platos principales, la espera para el postre pasó de 10 a 15 a 30 minutos. Le pregunté a la camarera si nos habían olvidado. . . a lo que ella se disculpó mucho, lo persiguió y también dijo si podemos ofrecerle té o café de cortesía. Esto fue bastante innecesario (me sentí mal al aceptar cualquier cosa por una comida tan buena) pero al mismo tiempo fue muy bien recibido. Creo que Josline o Jasmine se llamaba (¡comenzaba con "J"!) Mostraba un servicio sobresaliente y un gran crédito para el restaurante.Tuvimos una agradable velada y nos sentimos culpables de pagar solo 36 por una comida y un servicio tan excelentes, al igual que 40 en efectivo.¡Bien hecho a todos los de Wardroom y especialmente a Josline / Jasmine cuyo nombre no recuerdo! El entrante era agradable, croquet de guisantes y queso feta. Suprema de pollo estaba bien. . nada especial y el pudín, que estaba destinado a ser posset de manzana y flor de saúco, fue bastante horrible para ser honesto, es triste decirlo que probablemente fue el peor postre que he probado, ya que no sabía a absolutamente nada y olía a leche agria. Triste como esperaba el desierto. La comida comenzó bien un poco fue cuesta abajo a medida que avanzaban los cursos.

Tuvimos una cena aquí y un par de desayunos. La comida estaba bien, pero tres veces las papas fritas cocidas podrían haber sido cuadruplicadas. ! ! ! ! ! ! ! !

Nos lo pasamos muy bien comiendo en la sala. Comida estilo buffet. Algo para todos, tanto adultos como niños.

Soy anfitrión de un grupo de comidas llamado Brighton Dining with Friends. Seis de cenaron allí en noviembre. Mis invitados dijeron que su comida estaba bien. Esta no es una gran reacción de los comensales del grupo que están acostumbrados a comer en Brighton y Hove.No tuve un entrante. Pedí un filete (medio a raro con el énfasis en el último) (28) que venía con muy buenas papas fritas y la ensalada de rúcula sin sentido habitual vestida con virutas de parmesano. El bistec apenas era rosado y lo encontró demasiado seco y, por lo tanto, no comestible. Le pedí a la camarera que me lo devolviera y me diera otro. 20 minutos después no había llegado. Les pedí que cancelaran el pedido. Comí las papas y bebí dos copas de vino.El restaurante no me cobró por mi cena y tampoco cobraron por el vino. Se disculparon por el mal servicio. No volveremos porque no está a la altura de nuestros estándares.

We where recommended to have a dinner at the Wardroom and 2 chefs are friends of us. It was amazing! The menu change time by time, so we have to come back for sure!We had starter, main and dessert. The combination, the flavour and portion was in harmony. Thank you for the great experience.

A sophisticated but relaxed restaurant with excellent service from friendly and helpful staff.The menu isn't particularly extensive nor is the wine list but perfectly adequate if a bit on the pricey side.Our food was excellent and we enjoyed eating here, a bit away from from the more popular haunts and restaurants.

Mi madre le compró a mi novia un Groupon para el "Té de la tarde" para su graduación. Casi no vinimos, ya que no nos importa mucho el té de la tarde, pero mi madre me llamó y me dijo que era mejor que caducara en 2 días, así que reservamos para el sábado por la tarde porque es bueno probar cosas nuevas.Entramos en la habitación que estaba enorme y vacía y tenía esos manteles blancos y pegajosos que siempre tiene un restaurante indio. Esperamos un buen rato antes de que la mujer nos dijera que nos sentáramos.Nos sentamos junto a la ventana, que era una mala elección ya que el sol cegaba. Recibimos nuestro menú y nuestro "Qué hacer y qué no hacer del té de la tarde". De inmediato intenté romper todas las reglas de la lista que adjunto. Lo hice muy bien al romperlos.El menú de cócteles era horrible, intentaron animarlo, pero tienes la opción de una mimosa o una ginebra con limonada y ribena. . También conseguimos una tetera que no toqué.Los pasteles que llegaron y mi compañero y yo estábamos ansiosos por los sándwiches. Lo que fue un error, ya que todo lo que obtuvimos fue un soldado de jamón y mantequilla, cada uno con las costras aún unidas, así como salmón y queso crema (no podía probar ningún queso crema). Y un poco de queso y salsa picante de tomate. Todo el tiempo se cubrió con un berro pardo y empapado.Los bollos estaban bien, pero la crema era de mala calidad, ni siquiera la crema de Rodda, y el Jam había sido sacado directamente de un tarro barato.Los pasteles parecían y sabían como si hubieran venido de una tienda de la esquina Happy Shopper.Toda la experiencia fue basura y cuando descubrimos lo que la gente normalmente paga por esto, solo pude reír. . Aunque como dije la habitación estaba vacía. Prefiero ir a tomar un café y un pastel a una de las muchas cafeterías encantadoras de Brighton.

My fiancé and I stayed at the hotel and dined here in the evening. It was fantastic. We had a sea-view table with great service and the food was sublime. Can’t wait to come back here again and again.

Booked an overnight stay with a 3 course dinner included. Was not let down or disappointed on any of the courses. Our waiter was very efficient and other staff within the restaurant also very friendly.Very comfortable and relaxed atmosphere.

My wife and I stayed at the Old Ship for a long weekend and had the evening meal included in the price, however, the experience on the Friday night was not as expected, very slow service and although the food was good, the presentation wasn't.

Due to the poor weather we decided to eat in the hotel restaurant. So glad we did. Ordered fillet steak which was cooked perfectly. Service was great and would definitely recommend.

My husband and I were staying at the hotel and decided to have dinner here. The food was exceptional, delicious BUT the service did not come up to the standard of the food provided. The service was sub-standard of such a fine restaurant. First of all, we were not asked for drinks first, when we sat down. Had to wait for 10 minutes until the waitress came back to take our food order. Then we had to wait over 45 minutes for our main after our starters. But we expected we would be asked if we would like another drink but NO. When the mains were delivered that would have been an appropriate time for the waiter to ask if we required another drink but NO. Overall the wait staff were not attentive to the customers, two of them spent 80% of their time at the front register, whereby they could have been walking to the tables asking if anyone needed anything. The food is the only redeeming feature of this night. The restaurant needs to up their service, at least train their staff properly.

Amazing hotel! T was my sisters 20th birthday and they put out decorations and balloons for her special day and made her feel welcome and sang happy birthday to her amazing and special thank you to Margret the supervisor amazing always smiling and making sure we are okay 7/10 for the reservation and 10/10 for the lovely Margret outstanding!

My hat off to the chef. We often eat here as the food is really tasty, hot and attention to detail. The bar staff and the restaurant staff are very attentive to your needs and nothing is too much. Would highly recommend this restaurant. You don’t h e to be staying at the hotel to use this restaurant we live locally and just pop in for some good food on those lazy days or celebrations.

Upon arrival we were greeted by the Manger (Dan) who was super friendly and really welcoming and really made us feel welcome, the service was great and the food was amazing. Would recommend again.

Good food, with varied buffet breakfast, but dinner menu a tad limited. Good service with friendly and attentive staff.

We really enjoyed the ambience of this restaurant. Tables properly spaced and no loud music. We chose the terrine and wontons to start, both were delicious. For mains we had the Hake and Rack of Lamb; these were well cooked and hot. To finish we both chose cheese which contained a varied selection, served with grapes, celery and water biscuits.

¡Qué combinación! Desde nuestra mesa pudimos ver las luces en el muelle. Una bienvenida cordial del gerente del restaurante Toby: un servicio de calidad que fue mantenido por todo el equipo de la casa. Buenos vinos, excelente menú con amplias opciones que incluyen algunas creaciones de chef realmente únicas. ¡Muy sabroso! Impresionante

Nos alojamos en el Old Ship y reservamos en su restaurante The Wardroom para la cena, ¡qué delicia! Como habíamos reservado antes de las 6 pm, nos dieron una copa de Prosecco. Nuestra camarera era encantadora y claramente cómoda con servicio de entrega de plata. Los entrantes eran faisán con moras, pudín de salvia y salsa de pan, la comida era deliciosa y la presentación era excelente. Los platos principales para mí era el cordero Romney Marsh con kimchi y papas con mantequilla, el cordero se derritió en mi boca y estaba tan tierno. Mi esposo tenía una costilla con papas fritas triples, champiñones y salsa de granos de pimienta, una vez más todos deliciosos. El personal era muy amable y atento, no podía criticar la comida o el servicio. Si estás en Brighton sin duda lo recomiendo, sin duda comer aquí de nuevo.

Had a meal reservation with our room booking. We phoned to move our reservation back 30 mins which was done easily and with no problems. Restaurant was quiet and well laid out, service was some of the best we’ve had. Staff were very well dressed and efficient spoke well with great knowledge of the menus. The transition between courses was seamless (not rushed and not left hanging). We had a waitress called Zasia (hopefully we spelt that right) she was brilliant! Considering we only paid extra for another bottle of wine, was well worth it. Would definitely recommend.

Had a meal here with my husband, had the most amazing jerk chicken for starter which was the best starter we have every had!! Main of chicken was good and great size chicken breasts but was missing our fries for some reason, not sure why even when we asked. Dessert and cheeseboard was nice. Not much of an atmosphere though but staff were lovely.

Average food from the Brakes Bros hall of fame, lacks imagination, taste and style - they need to get a decent chef in the kitchen and charge more for good food. They've got the location, create a destination restaurant - I dare you.

We dined here as part of a two night getaway deal. The quality was excellent. We both had starters which were delicious and fish for main which was very well prepared. The deserts were superb (still don’t know what tonka nuts are but makes great ice cream).

This review is for Sunday lunch. We decided to try The Wardroom following a great review from the Argus and booked a table. However on arrival the restaurant was empty. What a shocker when our food eventually arrived,, luke warm limp stringy carrots, a congealed mess of cauliflower cheese , chewy beef but the worst of this apology for a Sunday Roast, was the dried out roast potatoes!!! They had to have been either re-heated or worse still frozen, which I can't understand as we were their first customers. No condiments were offered just a jug of gravy plonked on the table. I complained to the guy who originally took our order and he did look a bit embarrassed and to his credit waived my husbands offer to pay for his drink, he also offered us a drink on the house which we refused. Normally we go to the Grand for Sunday lunch when near the sea front, fortunately they found us a table. The difference was unbelieveable...amazing food at amazing prices, unbeatable.

Staff were lovely, but, we were the only table occupied in the restaurant so little atmosphere. Also, the roast potatoes were soft - a result of the empty restaurant I feel.

Brilliant food, great, attentive staff and nice wine. We had the Sunday roast which was delicious. Great value for money as we used the 241 Argus vouchers however even if I had paid full price I wouldn’t have complained. Will certainly be back!

Me and my fiancé came here to eat on recommendation and we were not left disappointed.

Dinner was included with our stay at the adjoining Old Ship Hotel however we were delightfully surprised with this restaurant. The modern cuisine offered great (difficult) choice of dishes. Everything that we tried was well designed and cooked to perfection. Thoroughly recommend a visit.

We were eager to try this place after we saw the new menu- and I am so happy we did. Joelle provided us with amazing recommendations and wonderful service throughout, we started with the Jerk Chicken & Lamb Neck, honestly the most incredible starter I’ve ever eaten- and I’m quite the foodie! The Jerk Chicken exploded my taste buds and paired excellently with goats curd and pineapple, the lamb neck was a true perfection of flavours which really left a desire for more.

I dined alone here while staying at the Old Ship of which this is part. I had an excellent meal with great food and service.

My partner and I stayed at the at The Oldship Hotel which is a perfect location to unwind and enjoy the sunny day. We had meal in The Wardroom - from start to finish was amazing. We were not disappointed, staff are great, professional but friendly and knowledgeable about the food and drinks. There is a huge attention to details of every dish and variety of selection of wine. Lovely ambiance with a Seaview and the tables are not crowded.

we had a large group and not booked arrived to the most pleasant hostess , drinks in bar as we read the creative menu and we were treated to great service and incredible good quality dishes.

We had a very impromptu meal in the recently re-opened 'The Wardroom', which is the restaurant attached to The Old Ship Hotel on Brighton seafront.

The opening night at the Wardroom was a fantastic experience! My boyfriend and I were extremely impressed with each of the dishes we tried. It was clear that the chef and his team had spent a great deal of time putting the new menu together...

Ambiance was very nice. A nice civilised hen dinner. Cocktails were nice in particular the passion fruit martini. The strawberry daiquiri could be worked on. The steaks were excellent and overall the food was good. My only complaint and the general consensus of the group were that the triple cooked chips were overcooked and on the burnt side.

Had dinner here on a Sunday evening in March. Not particularly busy.

My husband and I ate some of the best food we have ever had at Steak-on-Sea. Very memorable. Great starters, superb mains and we didn't have room for pud!

We could not fault the delicious piping hot food or the excellent service we received here tonight. As late diners, booking for 9.15pm we were impressed with the prompt friendly service and quality of the food. The presentation and taste was very good.

El menú es variado, con todo, desde múltiples opciones para veganos al steak esperaba. El personal era increíble, amable, acogedor y atento pero sin agobiar o intruso.

Muy fácil de reservar y no esperar importantes a la llegada. Nos dieron una mesa junto a la ventana con las velas que era encantador. La comida era muy buena, los platos bien cocinados y generoso con ingredientes de calidad. Recomiendo encarecidamente el Lemon Curd y un pato, Profiteroles Recomendación chef preparado como medio raro y el nugget pierna fue exuberante!

Fuimos aquí basado en las noticias de un nuevo jefe y una nueva dirección para el restaurante. La comida es moderna, emocionante, muy bien presentado y lo más importante, ¡delicioso! La comida llegó en excelente tiempo - en una concurrida sábado noche! El servicio es maravilloso, atento pero no agobiante. El restaurante tiene un ambiente relajado y distendido con comida real de alta calidad y un servicio de primera calidad. Disfrutamos mucho de nuestra visita. Sin duda será uno de los puntos calientes en la siguiente escena comida Brighton!

Ate at the hotel as they launched their new menu. It was great. The staff were so knowledgeable and the food was amazing. Loved the duck but what blew my mind was the aqua faba dessert. Apparently it's suitable for vegans yet tastes just like meringue. Can't wait to go back

Went there for lunch on Saturday. Service was so slow and when the food finally arrived I couldn't possibly eat my overpriced salad. I have never tasted anything so awful and salty.

Came here for a quick snack, service was slow and disorganised, food was just above average but the worst was the "singer". Cannot believe her lack of talent, it made me want to drown in the mussels sauce left. Overall a dirty place with dirty glassware and plates all over the terrace and tables inside the bar, unattended toilets and a clear lack of managerial control. Not recommended.

We had the Slow cooked lamb in Pitta with paprika fries.The lamb was far from slow cooked , hard to chew and lots of fat.The waiter ( called Costello) asked us how our meal was , as he stated he had to provide feedback to the kitchen.We told him the meals were unsatisfactory, that was the last we seen of him.Very disappointed with the food and the lack of responsiveness from a manager.Unfortunately we were asked to pay half way through the service , I now know why.

Though we were staying at the Old Ship we had planned to eat dinner elsewhere until the weather had turned and we chose to stay in the dry and eat at the hotel. We received a very nice welcome from the restaurant manager who reset a lovely table for us that was candlelit and in the window. Service was prompt and we were offered fresh rolls while we decided on our order. My husband had the pie and I had the bavette? Both were very tasty. For dessert we had the lemon mousse and the brownie. With a side salad, 2 large glasses of wine, a coke, and service charge the bill came to £66 which I thought was very fair. The service had been so delightful that we left a further small tip.

We were lured in by the outdoor seating on a gloriously sunny Monday lunch time. Staff didn't seem to keep too much of an eye on customers arriving, but once we went inside to collar someone, we were reasonably well serviced after that. We both had the "mini" fish and chips which was more than enough for a main meal. Obviously bought-in chips, and the batter, though non-greasy and light, was quite yellowy and thick. Nonetheless, everything was piping hot and perfectly palatable. I'd happily wile away another meal or a drink or two in the sunshine here...

Stopped here for two cocktails, left what felt like 2 hours later (and £20 lighter!) - the bar service was the slowest I've endured in a long time especially considering it was quite quiet and, against the offers elsewhere in the vicinity, was a bit of a rip off! Gets 2/5 tho as the cocktails were okay:-)

We were celebrating and decided to eat here and what a great choice! While we waited for a table to be ready, we opted for cocktails in the bar; we ordered a Mojito and a Sex on the Beach. The service was a little slow but we were told our drinks would be brought over to us when they were ready. When they did arrive, they did not disappoint.We were shown to our table and ordered our main courses; scampi, chips and peas which was delicious. For dessert, we ordered the chocolate brownie and again, it was delicious.I recall the food being slightly pricey but it was in line with what else was on offer along the front. But the food was very enjoyable so it was worth the price.I would recommend this restaurant and I would be keen to visit again.

Me and my boyfriend had dinner here on bank holiday and the food was lovely! We had steak and chips and I could ask for better the staff were lovely and welcoming.

We elected to eat in rather than venture out into Brighton. What a mistake. Service was slow and the restaurant was very quiet. My husband fared better then I luckily but both my starter and main course was very disappointing. My starter was a bowl of warm congealed white sauce liberally scattered with red kidney beans and was most unpleasant. It was not like any veloute I had had before. I chose the smoked duck breast as a main which was supposed to come with a redcurrant jus. The smoked duck was so strongly smoked I could still taste it 2 hours later and there was no redcurrant jus which would, to some extent have counteracted the strong smoked flavour. The duck was tough too. Luckily the wine we chose was excellent and helped to make it all more bearable.

My review is a little different as I was here one winter's evening on my own. I was also the only one in the restaurant. Now, I actually liked this venue. The waitress was polite and attentive, and my steak was well prepared tasty and filling. There was also a relatively good choice of wines. I've seen the other reviews but on this occasion i enjoyed myself here.

We came for evening meal yesterday and it was excellent so we thought the cream tea would be a special treat. The tea arrived quite promptly. The scones with jam and cream took almost 20 minutes to appear. We thought they were being freshly made. How wrong we were. They were stale and hard as biscuits. And this travesty of a cream tea for two was £17 plus a service charge. Even the pigeons hopping round us rejected the crumbs. Definitely to be avoided.

We visited this restaurant, five of us, without a reservation around 7pm prior to a night in the casino and we were only one party of three or four other parties of diners. The staff moved tables and chairs to our requests and presented wine and food menus quickly and efficiently. We chose this restaurant because my wife fancied soup as a starter and not many restaurants were offering this option.mainly meat dishes on offer but they did have a catch of the day.The menu was pleasant and varied and our food was excellent. This restaurant adds a 10% service charge to the bill which generally I am not in favour of but on this occasion I was very impressed and doubled that amount of tip. You can if you wish, upon paying your bill remove the service charge.i did not read any of these reviews before I used this restaurant and I am glad I didn't. I think they would of put me off. In my experience the negative reviews do not reflect the evening we had. I would gladly return to sample their delights once more.

To be honest we went there because an offer in groupon, but I am coeliac so as soon as we saw the offer I called out to check if they have gluten free... They assure me with a positive answer! So we went today 4 people, and first they actually put someone else food at our table and after 4 minutes they noticed that the food was for another table (by the way, on that moment we were only two tables), they took the places from our table and put them at other. Then, finally was our turn!! Or wasn't? They only put on the table half (only for two people, the other two had to wait even for plates!!) so after 5 minutes the other half came!! So other's were cold already... But our meat was cold too (?!?!?!) do you remember about my coeliac disease?? Well Yorkshire puddings (with gluten of course) all over the share meat (thanks?), I did ask for mine to be gluten free and to check the gravy... They came back to me about the gravy "the chef said that you will be fine" (OK...) and of course, my Yorkshire pudding didn't make it (they never gave me one). And the last bite was payment moment!!! They had tried 3 different machines (15 minutes) and none were working.. Anyway, if I had paid the full amount I will be sooooo angry!!! For my side I am only sick thanks for the gluten. Probably was my fault, I shouldn't trust, I should have left in the first place, now who knows when I am going to be "ungluteny" again!! :( too bad.

Went for lunch here and the food was amazing. All freshly cooked and tasty. Would have been a 5/5 but took a little while to get the food. Would definitely go again.

Bizarre experience visiting this restaurant.. We had a complimentary dinner here as the hotel collection had not treated us well on a previous stay elsewhere. The restaurant had the most awkward atmosphere I've ever experienced whilst eating out. It was trying to be elegant and sophisticated - but it's not. And doesn't need to be as the food is lovely! The restaurant felt sterile and uncomfortable.About an hour in, the delicate classical piano music was replaced with one oops I did it again from Brittany spears and then silence for the rest of our meal. Everybody kept looking around at each other and giggling nervously, feeling like we were all in this weird set up together. The cook made herself known hollering "SERVICE" every few minutes at the top of her lungs breaking the awkward silence.. Which was pretty funny!To top of the uncomfortable experience there was confusion over our bill - for our complimentary dinner. The waiter had a rather loud conversation on the phone, in the dining area discussing how we expected our free meal to be free etc... You had to be there but I wouldn't recommend going there out of choice to part with your money.

We stayed at the hotel and used this restaurant on Saturday evening. The staff were just lovely! Friendly, attentive and helpful. We had a set menu with four choices of starter, main and desert. All our food was delicious. I would recommend this restaurant, especially if you're staying at the old ship.

This review is based on an experience of the staff and the restaurant, not the food.After spending the morning in Brighton we were rather hungry, there was five of us and trying to find a restaurant with a table for five people at lunch time in Brighton during the summer holidays was going to be interesting. We noticed this place on the way to the pier and said we would stop there on the way back, the menu looked lovely and the prices were of good value. On the way back from the pier we went by our promise and went into the restaurant, big mistake! We walked in and the place was completely empty and it stunk of cigarettes. We found some staff standing at the bar chatting, as we approached them they all gave us a snarling glare which wasn't very welcoming. We asked if they were serving hot food, this was about 12:30pm - 1pm, their response "we don't serve hot food until 6pm" 6PM!! Why in the world would you put your menus outside if you aren't serving hot food! We took one look at each other and decided to leave. Ended up going to Bella Italia around the corner, much better and more welcoming!

We are staying at the hotel attached to the restaurant and on our first night were a fairly tired and captive audience when offered the chance to dine here upon check in. I had read the reviews but hoped some lessons had been learnt,unfortunately not. We were seated on arrival for a 7.45pm table but no one came near until 8pm and this was just to take drinks order which was another ten minutes to arrive. Starters and mains were ordered but it was an HOUR before the main turned up and it was completely wrong. By now it was 9.15pm and the waiters only offer was to bring the manager over, well I didn't see what could be done so we got our things and left but rest assured we will not be paying for such a terrible experience. The restaurant was only half full on a Friday night and now I know why. Avoid! Go to the creperie next door, saved our night.

On a two day visit to Brighton as a family of two adults and three teenagers. I'm not normally one to chose a hotel restaurant as I stay in many hotels due to my work and find they all become more or less the same. When we initially chose this restaurant we actually hadn't noticed that it was part of a hotel which I am really pleased about as otherwise we would have missed out! Lovely atmosphere, lovely friendly and efficient staff and excellent food, we enjoyed a long leisurely meal and didn't feel at all rushed. For starters we had bread and olive oil/balsamic vinegar, asparagus with poached egg and calamari. All of the dishes were really delicious and the eggs, most importantly, soft in the middle ;) The bread served at the start of the meal was beautifully fresh. For mains we chose duck, steaks and burgers. Again all the food fresh and delicious. My duck was yum! Too full up for dessert so can't comment on those. Lovely maitre 'd and waitresses. A very enjoyable evening.

Had a pre booked afternoon tea with friends for a hen do & it turned out to be awful. Felt sorry for the waiters who were really trying but it just didn't work. It was like they had never served an afternoon tea before let a lone catered for large pre booked groups. We waited a long time to be served then, about 5 different waiters were trying to assist but ended up stepping on each other's toes & making it worse. Fillings in the sandwiches was not very good & the patisseries were totally average. Felt bad for the girl that had organised it & the friend who's hen do it was & for the confuses waiters - wouldn't recommend unfortunately
