We wanted a takeaway but there was no physical menu, we had to scan a barcode. This is hugely annoying to read a menu from your phone. It also meant we couldn't take a menu home for other holiday makers. I understand technology but offer technology and good old paper. It's easier to read. The continual swiping is annoying! Luckily the food was lovely.

How to write this place up. Customer service like we have not had for years, really great staff, friendly and knowledgeable and nothing is too much effort. Vegan food choices are phenomenal, alongside equal none vegan choices. Food is exceptional, with amazing flavours and ingredients. Massive portions and the vegan prawn crackers and fab! Brilliant place to visit, highly recommend and wish it was closer to Manchester 😋. Well done all staff and management.

An incredible restaurant! The food was delicious and we had no complaints at all. Reasonably priced for high quality food. The staff were friendly and the food was served quickly. The restaurant itself is inside a hotel and we did annoyingly have to move our car because the hotel was full and required the spaces for overnight guests, however, there is a cheap car park next door and the doctors surgery across the road is free to park after 4pm.

I'm sorry to say that this was one of the worst meals I've ever eaten. The vietnamese rolls were overly thick and greasy. They seemed as if bought in; not home made. As I bit in, my shirt was splattered with oil. My main of pork was even worse. Really tough, luke warm and frankly inedible. Allied to the poor ambience where an endlessly repeated AI-style track was blaring away, we couldn't exit fast enough. My wife's dishes were similarly poor. Tempura prawns, were not tempura at all; but thick battered pieces. Her main course of "vietnamese" chicken was also heavy and dry. All in all, we both found the meals to be like a poor, overly thick and heavy chinese takeaway. Vietnamese food should surely be light and delicate; not thick, heavy tasting and greasy. So sorry but it was dire.

Decided to visit this restaurant for my Dads birthday as a treat. Right from the start the service was top notch, very attentive and pleasant but not overbearing. It was just two of us and though I had no intention of mentioning it was a birthday treat, it came out to staff as we chatted to them. Dad was given alittle treat for his birthday which was a lovely touch. The food was great too. Wouldn’t hesitate to recommend!

At last! Ever since I was diagnosed with heart problems and changed my diet to a plant based one about eight years ago we have been trying to find an eatery somewhere in Cornwall where I live that understands that vegans don't just want to eat a darn vegan burger whenever they go out to dine. Finally we have found it and it was a complete delight. From the moment we walked in on a dull Thursday evening to the moment we left we were treated as if we were treasured guests. Probably because Hoi An is the restaurant of a independent hotel that still values it's guests and trains it's staff properly in the art of hosting, as opposed to part of a conglomerate chain who's only interest is shareholder profits. We were looked after in a way we have not been in a local restaurant for so long we had forgotten what it feels like. Anthony and a young lady who's name we forgot to ask (apologies) waited our table with great professionalism and just the right level of friendly familiarity at the same time as subtle attentiveness. Professionalism way beyond that which most younger folk seams to understand the value of. Fabrice the head chef and Lee the manager have clearly invested great time and effort (right down to making in-house seitan and other vegan receipt elements) in bringing together a range of vegan Asian/Vietnamese options which show that interesting vegan food can be delivered in the current hospitality setting even if the cost of living crisis is in full swing. The starter platter was delicious and very generous for two people, we then had the faux beef in black bean sauce and the faux pork char-siu with mixed vegetables and noodles accompanied by rice and more noodles. The vegan prawn crackers were also a fabulous touch. We shared a vegan dessert which also knocked the socks of most that we have had previously. The whole meal was quite frankly a revelation. We have only dined out in an Asian restaurant maybe once or twice since I became vegan as we have found that the only options have been simple (quite frankly lazy) mixed vegetable or tofu dishes which did little to inspire the price tag. To be presented with a menu of exciting and imaginative vegan Asian options was like being a kid in a sweet shop. We were so impressed we absolutely felt the need too speak directly with Fabrice to tell him how pleased we were with the food and to our pleasure found both Fabrice and Lee super willing to explain their passion and ambition for further developing their vegan menu. What lovely people. To top off the great evening we then found that Thursday evenings are vegan night and there was a 20% discount on the bill. What a lovely surprise. To say we will be back is such an understatement, it is fair to say that from now on Hoi An will be our first and preferred port of call for any eating out treats and trips going forward. Sure, the prices on first look might seem a little high but when you consider that a bit of fish in batter and chips almost anywhere in Cornwall (and quite often that will be a bit of Basa and have never seen the sea!) will now set you back about £16, Hoi An main course dishes at around £20 and for a platter which is super generous represent amazing value in our opinion. If you are vegan and thinking of giving Hoi-An a try we can only say, DO IT. We don't think you will be disappointed. If the alignment of dishes with their meat equivalents offends your sense of vegan purism we strongly suggest trying to get over it. In this day and age if we want restaurants to be able to deliver the innovative and time invested options that Hoi An are they have to cater for both the vegan purist and flexitarians who want to eat a greater amount of plant based meals whilst being able to have some expectation of what they will be getting. Thank you everyone at Hoi An you have finally proven to us that with care and effort it is possible to produce interesting vegan food in a dinning out setting in Cornwall.

Once inside it's great, but with it being inside the Westberry Hotel we couldn't find it at first. Everything is good: staff, decor, menu with an additional vegan menu that is the largest I have seen. Quite a good range of pressure beers too - it's not a hand pumped beer place. Walked in without booking and the staff at Hoi An could not have been more helpful. They sat us down and took a drinks order and sorted us a window-side table within a few minutes. The staff were so helpful, when we asked for directions to a friends home (who invited us to visit whilst we dined) they could not answer at first, but within a few moments had returned with a postcode for the Sat nav. The meal was superb, the service was excellent and the whole atmosphere was so relaxed and welcoming we would make this our number one choice when returning to Bodmin.

I love Thai food, having acquired the taste for it when I first went to Thailand many years ago, so I was pleased to find this Thai restaurant when I recently stayed for a couple of days in Bodmin.I was sadly disappointed. What should have been a spicy, highly flavoured Thai curry had been over diluted with coconut milk thereby losing all the wonderful tastes and flavours that should have been there. Such a shame. On the next evening I selected an English dish, which was much more reasonable. Staff were welcoming and friendly but I did leave a little disappointed and I certainly wouldn't recommend it if you are looking for true Thai tastes.

We decided to try this hotel/restaurant - the décor is very attractive and the staff helpful and pleasant. The Sunday Carvery was anything but pleasant. To be fair, we arrived rather late on Sunday around 2 pm and there was only the tail end of some beef and a nice looking pork joint. The pork was tasteless and rather luke warm as were the vegetables and gravy. We did not even have a hot plate. The coffee wasn't really hot and arrived without a mint. The desserts seemed to be on the expensive side at £5.50 + and we were not tempted at these prices. This restaurant seems to be cutting corners and it shows. Come on I am sure that you can do better - the tourists are coming and need some good hot meals!

While on holiday in the area, and staying overnight in Lostwithiel, we tried to find a nice place around our hotel to have dinner, but we did not like any of them so we ended up in Bodmin. By pure chance, just because we parked across the road, we found this restaurant. Its name made me think that it won't be a nice place because is a weird combination, but my girlfriend insisted to go in there because she fancied having Thai for dinner. I like allot trying new food, but I am a bit reserved with Thai meals 'cause I don't like really spicy food so I said that as long as they have gammon steaks I will eat in there, play it safe I told to myself. Checked their menu on the poster outside and decided to step in.Ended up having a really good meal, Thai style duck with vegetables in sweet chilli sauce and my girlfriend had the Thai green curry she was craving for...both of us have been really happy and felt nice and welcome. The location looks nice, food is fantastic but there must be something wrong....because it was a Friday night and only 3 more tables were busy!..maybe it's just the people in Bodmin! :)

Having read the previous comments I am not sure that we have been to the right restaurant. We booked for Mothers Day (yesterday) and I am sad to say that the food was extremely disappointing. It was a carvery with a minimum of two courses. The Carvery was pretty much at school meals standard with no Parsnips, no carrots and pretty mediocre, but the meat was good and there was plenty of it.The dessert was, however, exceptionally bad. Spiced fruit crumble, there was no crumble and it was served on a side plate and sad to say was not very nice at all.The service was average to poor and whilst I accept Mothers day is a busy day, a smile costs nothing. All of this would not be a problem if the price had been reasonable, if it were a normal Carvery price of at most £10, or below then, well you get what you pay for. However, this unfortunate dining experience cost over £70 for 4, with only soft drinks (one each) which left us all feeling as though we had been utterly ripped off.A real shame as I am sure they are better than the experience we had.

My husband and I decided on the spur of the moment to book a table for dinner. Having only attended functions here in the past we were not sure what to expect. Very pleasantly surprised; the restaurant is very tastefully decorated with a comfortable seating area off the bar and the restaurant. A superb modern gas fire added to the ambience of the room as did the subtle background music. The staff were very attentive and we were soon made welcome and menus and drinks were in front of us. The menu is a mixture of Thai and English food and we chose two starters to share, one of which included the best tempura prawns and squid that we have had in a long time. Main courses were also excellent and although we were extremely full, desserts were too good to miss. My husband stated that the Crème Brulee was the best he had ever eaten. The wine list was reasonably priced and although not exciting, we chose a simple bottle of Pinot Grigio which went well with the meal. Our total bill for the whole meal including pre dinner drinks and wine was £82 which I thought very reasonable and good value as the portions were very generous. We will definitely return and hope to do so very soon. The only down side if you like company was that it was extremely quiet, but this was a bonus for us as we loved the peaceful atmosphere.

A little disappointed to learn that there was a set menu ONLY for the evening which we were not informed of when we originally booked the table, although there was something for everyone and the food was all very much enjoyedThe only other niggle was the attitude of the 'more mature blonde waitress with glasses?!?' who took the initial order of starter and main who was quite curt/brusque when slight variations were requested to meal choicesAlthough she will not deter us from returning to try their original menu, she may find our responses to her brusqueness returned in a similar manner next time :/

We turned up just after their serving hours without booking prior to arrival. The courteous and friendly staff member saw us to a table and promptly took our drinks order. She returned in good time and took our order for starters & mains. The food was very good - spicy and well-presented chicken satay skewers and the also very well presented pate - which was a very large starter and tasted amazing! For mains we had the gammon steak and the steak and ale pie. The gammon was very flavoursome - only very small downside was the that I prefer crispy fat, although we didn't ask for it that way! The pie was lovely - and served with an awesome portion of veg (including carrot & swede mash! yum). We skipped the dessert but only through being too full! Would recommend.

Both had the Thai menu and enjoyed the meal. The medium green curry was just right and pleased the host warned about the red version might be too hot.

Lovely contemporary hotel restaurant, specialising in an English take on Thai and a selection of Steaks. The restaurant has a nice atmosphere with stylish furnishings and a lovely balance of colours. The seating area is lined with windows which give the place an airy feel, whilst there's a relaxing lounge area in the middle of the room for the less formal surrounding. Having been welcomed by two member of staff, I was offered recommendations in a helpful and happy manner. I tried the Thai side of the menu staring with crispy calamari in chilli and lemon grass. The combination of flavours lived up to the expectations of an English Thai fusion. The main course; duck noddles in sweet chilli, lemon grass and cashew nut sauce tasted fantastic, and was professionally presented. The service was quick, painless and enjoyed with a well maintained draft peroni. Even better if:The squid could have been crispy, but instead arrived in soft batter. Perhaps that's why it arrived so quickly? The duck was over cooked, becoming chewy rather than soft and tender and the noodles nuke warm. The great customer service was soon replaced by a soulless waiter who did anything but enhance the experience. With a few minor tweaks and slightly higher kitchen standards could award this place with a 5/5 rating.

Good vantage point. Interesting selection of food on the menu.Well cooked and well presented.I would be interested to try the Thai food next time but the steak and dessert were both very acceptable. Other customers seemed to be enjoying the Thai food.

This was served satisfactorily and was perfectly acceptable. However the complimentary glass of wine with the meal did not materialise, a small but irritating point

Stumbled on this place while riding through Bodmin. Absolutely brilliant Seafood Thai Red Curry! Loads of quality seafood in it and taste to die for. The best I've had!

Although we always visit this restaurant for any of our little celebrations we had booked elsewhere on this occasion and just wished we had stuck to our original plans. The other restaurant let us down at the last minute so we got a taxi to here. Even though they were very busy and we hadn't booked they still managed to get us a table. I had the rare steak salad with chilli and lemongrass to start with whilst my husband had the duck pancakes (one of his favourites here) which were so delicious and cooked perfectly. For main our son had a green chicken thai curry and I had the thai chicken satay curry whilst husband had a traditional steak and ale pie. He said that you could really taste the ale and the steak pieces were generous in size. My son and I were going to order 2 lots of prawn crackers as a side order but the lady recommended we have just the one and share. I am so glad we took her advice as the one portion was ample. The food was wonderful and so tasty and the service impeccable as has always been when we have visited. I cannot praise this restaurant enough!

Came here for a meal with my partner in June. The food was cooked beautifully. My partner ordered a Tom Yum soup for starters and when I tried some, the individual flavours were really distinct and I would definitely go back for more. My boyfriend ordered the Rendang curry while I ordered the Salmon main which was again, cooked really well. The service was great and the atmosphere was calm. Overall, it was a very pleasant experience.

As the title says, one of our favourites because it just us always perfect. From the service to the food to the decor. To start I had duck which was perfection, fillet steak for mains that was almost melt in the mouth tender and desert pavlova. All of the party had different and everyone pleased with their choices. If it's fine food in fine surroundings the don't hesitate.

Visited here one evening whilst working at the Royal Cornwall Show this year. The menu looked good on-line so I booked. When I arrived I was shown to a table in the conservatory area which was rather lacking in ambience. I ordered Tom Yum soup as a starter which is a soup I have had in Thailand many times and at various Thai restaurants around the country. This Tom Yum soup didn't have a hint of Lemon grass, Kaffir lime leaf or fish sauce - all of which are the basis of this soup &, even worse there wasn't even a sliver of chillie peppers - come on, this is supposed to be THAI food!! Having left this I then was offered the menu again and chose the duck spring-rolls. Again, not a hint of chillies or any of the usual Thai flavours in these rolls which were undercooked, massively too big for Thai food and bland. The main course of fish and crispy prawns with noodles and pak-choi was equally bland and tasteless (more akin to Vietnamese than Thai). All this is offered as "authentic" Thai cuisine!! I asked if the chef is Thai - but apparantly not, - the previous chef was.Give this restaurant a miss if you like real Thai food: or opt for the English menu; the chef may know what he's doing with that.

Ate here with some friends a couple of weeks ago,The dining area is quite nice, the beer is good but the food is average at best. The Rendang curry was of a similar quality to the supermarket microwave Chinese meals. Wont be going back!

We dined there on two separate occasions and the staff was excellent and the food delicious. The service to table was slow at times when full, but overall it was a thoroughly enjoyable dining experience.

Had food here last week as a group of 6 adults. Last time I had been there was about 8 years ago and the restaurant had changed considerably; its now a lot more modern and has a good vibe to it. We all had a variety of dishes from the menu, I had spring rolls to start and Thai tempura for main, both delicious! Everyone enjoyed their food. You get a free glass of wine when you order a main meal which is good, although the lady didn't like the fact I asked for a spritzer!! I was driving and had already had one glass! Other than that the younger waitress was very nice and friendly, didn't have to wait for food long at all. A little bit pricey for bodmin, but you get what you pay for here the food was great and I would definitely recommend it. I look forward to my next visit!

My husband and I love this restaurant, not only because it's local! We always choose this restaurant for a special occasion without the kids (better for couples/friends rather than families I'd say) The thai food is always so good. Haven't tried steak here so can't comment on that. The staff are always friendly, helpful and attentive. The decor is modern and the atmosphere relaxing. Prices are reasonable too. Well worth a visit.

We visited Cornwall in early September, me and my husband went on a date night while brother and sister in law babysat and all I can say is beautiful!! The ladies serving were chatty and seemed to care!! The restaurant was busy on the night so they took our order and took us to the table when the food was almost ready so we didn't have to wait long, I thought it was a bizarre process at first but actually worked very well!! Would definately go back if I'm ever that way :)

Do not be put off by the exterior of this hotel - enter the restaurant and it is a completely different story. The decor is modern and comfortable and makes you feel as if you are not in Bodmin at all! The menus are extensive (choice of the daily menu which has a variety of choices as does the regular one) and competively priced - there were a group of us and we all chose from different menus but this allowed us to taste all the options. Great food - good quality and very tasty, portions were filling and beautifully presented. I do not think that anyone who eats here would be disappointed as there is something on the menus to meet everyones desire!

The modern decor of this restaurant gave a slightly quirky feel to dining here as the attached hotel was clearly, from a different era. This, however, did nothing to detract from the quality of the experience for, although the service lacked what one nowadays, comes to expect, the food made up for. The starter was excellent, though prompting the staff to bring butter for the bread rolls shouldn't have been necessary. The main courses were rather good: full, rich and well-presented; vegetables slightly overcooked (though tastes vary). The choice of wine was excellent and reasonably-priced (no excessive corkage - not surprising with a screw-top). We were too full to attempt the desserts!

We were staying at the nearby caravan site, and booked to eat here on our last night before returning home. A quiet Sunday night, but nothing was too much trouble for our host. While waiting for the meal, my wife became unwell, (nothing to do with the restaurant or meal) so we were unable to stay and enjoy our meal. Our host packed the freshly cooked meals in takeaway trays so we could have later. I ate my steak once back at the caravan and it was delicious. Sorry we had to rush off, but our host was perfect and the food excellent. Would certainly return if we were back in the area.

Me and my partner have ordered from here twice, the second time they didn't actually have any banana blossom left, they called to tell us after the order had been placed, the staff were so apologetic and friendly, happy to offer us alternatives even if it cost a little more. We will definitely be going back, has become our pay day treat.

This place was very busy considering it was nearly 2p, which I always think is a good sign. The scallops were amazing but the salad was a letdown. The dressing or whatever it was, was unpleasantly sour. I don't know what it was so it's hard to describe but when you order a side salad I didn't expect it to be tainted with something so weird. Please serve it plain, or at least ask the customer if they want to try something unusual.
