Starsky & Hatch is the best little hatch in town. Their oat milk lattes are delicious. Their vegan & veggie options are plentiful. The fish is fresh, & all the meals are so tasty, from their simple granola through to their delicious poké bowls. The smiles inside the hatch rival the smiles outside. Their positioning is picture perfect, with the most scenic view of St Leonards sea & beach, with Hastings to one side, St Leonards to the other, & the pier in sight; nay, reaching distance. The food is made to order, so isn't fast food, or greasy. It's good food, healthy, cooked well, & cooked quickly. The ambiance is chilled, relaxed, & full of fun. Customers range from dog walkers to swimmers, runners to box freestylers, Daytrippers to locals who keep coming back because Starsky & Hatch are so welcoming. And we will keep going back 😀

Fun beach front spot for breakfast with a DJ and nice vibes. Had a great coffee (cafe art included) and nice simple but tasty granola bowl.

So many places open in St Leonards and then decide that, actually, it’s a bit much to be expected to serve their customers every day. Not so with Starsky and Hatch. These guys are open every day, in all but the most insane weather conditions, which is no mean feat given that they are literally metres away from the beach. The food and drinks are great - try the crumpets with rose sour cream, which is my favourite - and the view is amazing. Access the hatch via the historic covered lower promenade called Bottle Alley - it’s decorated with millions of fragments of coloured glass. A great place for a breather of walking between St Leonards and the pier or Hastings.

A couple of times I walked past the hole in the lower promenade wall that trades as “Starsky and Hatch” and was not initially drawn to the place, but I did notice that there was often a queue outside so decided to have a look. Behind the hatch (aka hole in the wall) was a decent size kitchen with about half-a-dozen people busy preparing food and drink. At this point I also noticed the side entrance and stairs down from the costal road (easy to find as the stairs are by the Hastings Weather Kiosk). All food and drink is served using biodegradable items; they are some tables and chairs (and also the beach to sit on) – being in the walkway under the promenade there is always some shelter from the wind and rain. Open from 8am, “Starsky and Hatch” is ideal for a that early morning walk cup of coffee. I visit during the summer, shortly after they open, for my morning walk coffee, what surprised me was how busy there were (on a weekday) and also how many people were taking an early morning dip.

This kiosk with seating on the beach offers really excellent coffee and snacks (a good array of cakes, Sri Lankan dishes etc). They even have live music and specific times. A really nice place to sit and chat.

I have to mention that although the service is good and the food is tasty, my portion of curry was so small that I had to make something to eat when I got home. A bit disappointing considering it cost £13.50

Always slightly weary of Hastings … but stumbled across this amazing oasis in the bottle alley ! Customer service is fantastic and was treated like we had been there many times before . Food was out of this world and coffee so good it kept me up all night !! Think I’ll go for the decaf option next time , will be making it one of my regular visits when back in the UK .

Everyone needs some Starsky & Hatch in their life! A place where you feel like you’ve come home to be cherished. Laura and Rory the owners and creators are passionate about what they are doing and that has an impact every time you visit. They make the best coffee in town …and beyond! There is the most wholesome and delicious food and of course, perfect sweet treats when you need it. All locally sourced, in itself supporting other businesses. I love their ethos. They’ve also built a team that live and breathe the Starsky and Hatch care and passion. You couldn’t ask for more, and yet there is more: an idyllic sea view, and music that just adds to the totally chilled out atmosphere. They’ve turned Bottle Alley into a destination, which it so deserves to be. It’s joyous to see people enjoying this unique space. Thank you Laura and Rory for your vision.

We bought a salmon poke bowl on Sunday and it was simply delicious. Many wonderful flavours all blended together to produce a wonderful lunchtime snack. And we sat in deckchairs on the beach on a beautiful sunny day, Strongly recommend

Hastings often gets a bad press, but Starsky and Hatch is right at the top the list of reasons why it shouldn’t. Where else can you live where you can wake up on a sunny Saturday morning and stroll from your home down a green hill past a castle, taking in the huge sea- and sky-scapes, along a proper promenade that passes an award-winning pier, go along Bottle Alley to a cafe that serves a perfect cup of coffee (and delicious food and other drinks too) while surrounded by fairy lights and mellow tunes or on a deck chair watching the waves? However you are feeling, whoever you are with, whatever your plans are, whether it’s grey or blue, windy or warm, a visit to Starsky will always make your day that little bit better.

This is a popular and pleasant place to spend time near the beach (picnic tables are available opposite for landlubbers and deckchairs/small tables on the beach itself). The venue does a full range of excellent coffees, along with cakes, snacks etc. Well worth a visit, if you are in the area.
