We had a lovely family meal here. Tel was a great host and arranged for special dishes to be prepared for us. King prawn passanda, madras hot was delicious. Lovely fresh naan, delicious food., great value.

Me and two friends were in Commercial Road having a few drinks and we wanted to get something to eat around 11pm. Everywhere was shutting, but The Star of Asia was open and we ventured in. We all had the mixed starter which came with beautifully cooked king prawns, sheesh kebab, bhajis and samosas and it was amazing. The main course was a chicken biryani and one of us had a chicken korma. Again, the flavour and presentation was superb, and it was genuinely the best curry I’ve eaten in years. The staff were really friendly and the environment was clean and pleasant. We’ll definitely be going back.

A terrible experience from start to finish. I wanted to sit at the back but the waiter made me sit in the middle of the restaurant although it was empty. I was on my own and wanted to keep a low profile. The meal itself was average but I FOUND A STAPLE IN MY CURRY. When I told the waiter he said "oh sorry" and walked away. No discount or refund just an insencere "sorry". He then ignored me. Had to go to the counter for the bill. I have never experienced customer service so bad as The Star of Asia in Portsmouth.

Ordered a takeaway from here, there were problems with delievery due to the bad traffic. Food was still hot and had a very good customer service experience from the restraunt and delievery driver.

Awful: A friend had just lost his wife, so was there for food and a quiet console over a beer. Place was quiet around 6:30 pm, asked for a table and was seated. Ordered a couple of beers, and instantly asked if we want poppadoms. 5 mins later while waiting for the sundries asked if we would like to order main meal. This happened twice by two different staff, again within 15 mins of being there. I ended up having to say we like to eat slowly, and we'll order when we are ready. This place used to be great but staff are a bit weird, and seem more focused on delivery than in-house requirements. Beers were warm, food was ok. but did not enjoy it due to the constant badgering and interruptions. And finally the waiter through a hissy because we did not order withing 15 mins for main course, by banging his serving table around.

So it’s four stars here chiefly for the poppadoms and accompanying dips, the great starters and the fair prices charged. It’s odd to be asked if we want poppadoms as when we go to Bangladeshi restaurants at home they served up free. Here they charged for and the delicious dips make them worth it. I began with a duck puri as I’d not tried tandoori duck before and the poori was very good tasting indeed. My wife is a fan of seekh kebab and this one sure didn’t disappoint. The mains were three star as while the flavours were good they lacked a real punch - they need to use more of the warming spices for deep flavour like cardamom, ginger, clove, toasted coriander and cumin, and of course fried onion and garlic. I had a king prawn biriani with a good vegetable curry and my wife had chicken tikka masala (artificiality coloured red and a two star dish) and pilau rice. The service was attentive and overall we enjoyed our evening. The place itself is on the edge of the main city strip with no easy parking available - local British authorities have turned parking into a money grabbing enterprise and it’s a wonder in/near city restaurants businesses survive at all. These authorities would better serve people if they’d ban red, yellow and other artificial food dyes. It’s more than a little dated within but then so am I and it’s cosy. 2 starters, 2 mains and 2 diet drinks £43.

This restaurant does lovely traditional Indian food. The dishes always arrive hot and the on-line ordering is very simple. I highly recommend the Star of Asia for both, super food and outstanding value.

We visited this restaurant for the first time on Wednesday having driven past it many times and wanted to dine here. It has a traditional cosy atmosphere and very warm welcoming interior. The staff were very friendly and happy to look after us. The food was plentiful and delicious and very reasonably priced. I look forward to making this our regular Indian and I know we will definitely be back.

Used to go in Star of Asia when I was in the Royal Navy and was always excellent food. Was in Portsmouth recently for a visit with my wife and just had to go check the place out after a 24 year absence and it didn't disappoint. We had poppadoms, pickle tray, onion bhaji, peshwari naan, plain naan, chicken tikka bhuna, chicken makhonwala and 2 portions of keema rice and every bite was a treat, we was in food heaven with it all. Still by far and away the best Indian restaurant in Portsmouth and would recommend anybody try it.

It was empty. We went in and waited, talking in the restaurant for a few minutes. The phone rang and someone came out and answered it, finished the call then seated us and went back out into the kitchen area. The restaurant was freezing and we sat there for another 5-10 minutes before he came back, handed us menus and disappeared again. We saw at this point that they didn't serve alcohol, we waited a few more minutes, then when he didn't re-emerge to take even our drinks order we gave up and left. I presume this was what he wanted? We'd gone because of the good reviews and proximity to the escape room we did. Is this experience just because it was an empty Monday? Anyway, we went to the local Ghandi and had a lovely meal so from the sounds of the other few bad reviews I think we owe him a debt of thanks! At least we didn't stay.

Starter that waiter recommended took 45 minutes to arrive and was totally bland and slightly under cooked. Main was chef's special (Chicken Palak) and took another hour to arrive and was totally sweet (I ordered extra spicy!). There was no spinach in the dish and not a single chilli! There were 4 small pieces of diced chicken on an inch thick bed of sliced onions! Totally red in colour. Waiter acknowledged this, was totally embarrassed and called the boss. When the boss finally arrived at my table 15 minutes later I explained and he was extremely rude and walked off mid conversation to take a telephone order! He then proceeded to lay in to the poor waiter who was the one saving grace. Unsurprisingly, we were the only people in the restaurant! He then refused to give any discount and made us pay in full and threw us out yelling at us in the process! Totally ruined my date night with my wife. To make matters worse (if that was possible) I had an upset stomach for the next 24 hours. AVOID THIS PLACE IF YOU VALUE YOUR TIME AND YOUR PALATE!

We normally get our takeaways from here when we are heading home to the Isle of Wight as there as no decent Indians on the Island. This weekend we managed to go in for a meal and wow, we were greeted by the most charming young man Kash who gave us a magnificent service. The food itself was delicious, hot and spicy just how we like it. We also had a complimentary rice thrown in. We would recommend it highly and if you want to take your own booze there is a Sainsburys right next door that sell chilled wine and beer as they are not licenced.

Stopped here for tea. Had a lovely no frills Indian served fast meal was lovely staff helpful. Was also reasonable price. We would come again

Fancied a curry whilst down here (from up t'north) and just called in. This was the tastiest Indian meal that I've ever had! Excellent service and good value. Can't wait until I come back again.

France is not known for its curry houses. So we stopped here before embarking. Excellent Indian food. Sizzling tandooris the highlight. No licence so brought our own Kingfishers. Well insulated now. Ready for the French.

The food here is ALWAYS! lovely, I always order a lamb vindaloo, and the thing is its not just full of heat but flavour and I love the flavour of the food which is always consistant. Honestly trust me and try the lamb vindaloo! I always order and probably won't stop till the way its cooked changes!

Location and ambience of the place lacks a little. However the service is great and food is above the standard of an average indian restaurant. The guys there are lovely. Would reccomend for a nice, good value, evening indian.

Restaurant is really accomodating - food is amazing. The only thing that faults them is delivery time can be an hour or so - which when your really hungry can put a downer on things but it’s always worth the wait

Ordered a tandoori masala for my partner without almonds on top. Order came with almonds on top after scrapping the top layer off, we took one mouthful and threw the rest away as it was horrifically sweet and just tasted of almonds. Nothing like the previous order we had - we had even been advised this curry choice over a tikka masala as we were told it was slightly spicer and less sweet and less yoghurty. Asked for Bombay potatoes to be spicy and normally they are very spicy, today despite spicy written on the packaging they tasted bland. 100% disappointed 😔 A complete waste of money.

The ambience of the place wasn't fantastic but the food and the service far offset the shortfall. The portions were substantial and the single naan was big enough for two. Prices were also reasonable. Enjoyed my dining alone with the waiter checking on what I need regularly. Highly recommended.

Have ordered from here many times and always enjoyed it, however today my food was beyond awful. Curry had no taste, naan bread was flavourless and rubbery, and the onion bhajis and banana fritters were awful. Called the restaurant and was advised it was the same 'gravy' they always use... NOT happy!!!

A traditional Indian restaurant, with incredibly tasty food, friendly and welcoming service. As other reviews have said, don't be put off by the location (on a roundabout) - it really is worth a visit. Best curry we have had in a while and we couldn't have been made more welcome. Generous portions and excellent value for money too!

It was really nice to find a truly traditional little Indian restaurant.The background music was Indian giving it a lovely atmosphere.Decore lovely. Staff Rubel and Ash very polite, friendly and gave excellent service. We had set meal for 2 with some extras and drinks, and were surprised at what excellent value it was. Food was also great. Starter - lamb tikka- was not very hot for which we received an apology. We were also given a complementary popadom, chocolate mints and Bailey's Irish cream to finish.

First Star of Asia in a few years as I've only moved back to the area recently. Still as great (if not better!). Delivery driver was very polite to. Will be continuing to use this as my sit in / takeaway of choice.

Por favor no dejes que su ubicación (justo en una rotonda muy transitada). Este lugar es increíble. Fantástica comida casera exactamente como me gusta, pero el servicio, bien, absolutamente genial. Muy amable, de prisa, y nada era demasiado problema. Incluso hasta el punto de preguntar si me gustaría un taxi.

Slightly worried that the order went through at 00.48 it was at my door by 0110. That's including prep time, cooking time and travel time. The curry sauce the chicken was in, was slightly watery. But on the whole generally tasted alright.

I enjoyed the Ambience and decor, the young, but very good looking manager seated us promptly. Easily the best indian in pompey, - I am low-key indian. The Naan's are big enough for the whole family. Curry was 10/10

Me and work friends dine her quite late sometimes, despite this the staff are always excited and happy to see and feed us! The food is always top notch, the nans are my favourite. We sometimes get a free round of baileys which is a nice touch. Very good for value too. Overall this is a really lovely place to come, and open very late which is handy!

We had our first curry here many years ago, and loved it. Back last night after a few years wandering around in curry purgatory, boy have we missing out!Fantastic service to start off, there ain't much in the area to create passing trade, so Abdul and his lads give you their all. The food is, in my mind, among the best in town. Tender mutton, chapattis, light naams, vegetable bhaji and homemade pickle's to die for.All inexpensive. One of the oldest restaurants in town, there's a good reason it's still here, class.

I really liked the atmosphere in this restaurant and the food was first class and I also the services and the waiters were very friendly.

This is the best Indian food delivery in Portsmouth, after having tried a bunch of them. The korma is excellent! Thank you for lowering the minimum for delivery! Only issue is sometimes have trouble with keeping food hot, specially rice and nans. Would appreciate it if you could look into this. Still the best you can find!
