Absolute pleasure dining here again . Food was amazing . Staff so friendly and helpful. Will definitely be back again.

Lovely meal and food. Wonderful service, no pressure to move on and able to spread courses and hot drink out. Quiet so you were able to hear and enjoy your own conversation. Definitely recommend

I have wanted to visit the Star and Eagle for years and decided to go with a good friend for lunch. We ordered a prawn and Marie rose sauce sandwich, which we asked if we could have it on granary. The lady serving at the bar said yes that's fine. We were served crayfish tails on supermarket brown bread which was pretty tasteless and had minimal sauce. The lady serving at the bar was pretty miserable looking and not interacting much, as if she didn't really want to be there. A second server was very polite and helpful and friendly but by this point the experience was disappointing. The building is beautiful but sadly I doubt we will make a return visit.

Cosy pub full of old world charm, pretty Christmas decorations. Really good regular staff always friendly and helpful. One of the few places to enjoy good liver and bacon. 👍

My first visit to the Star and Eagle for sometime and I enjoyed my return there for lunch. Good pub restaurant with plenty of food specials and we had a good table alongside the very welcome log fire. The haunch of venison was great and overall a good experience with good service and a warm welcome when we arrived. Parking is limited but there is car park in the village in walking distance.

The Star and Eagle is one of the nicest pub-restaurants in our area and our “go to” place if we want a treat. Fantastic varied menu and very friendly, welcoming and helpful staff, all in a great ambience .

Visited for Sunday dinner. Dogs were not allowed inside. Had to sit outside in the pouring rain . Sunday dinner arrived Luke warm , beef overcooked and carrots were over cooked .. I’d go as far to say they were not fresh carrots tasted like a frozen vegetable. Not a enjoyable visit

The tables were set up beautifully with white cotton cloths and napkins. We didn’t like having to read the menu on a board as we got in everyone’s way. No menus on the tables. The food was good but some items expensive. All deserts £9. The service was pleasant and friendly although a little bit unprofessional at times. Everyone enjoyed the evening but not sure we would go again.

Such a beautiful place and setting. I hadn’t been there since my daughters were younger . It’s such a lovely atmosphere and so relaxing which is perfect when you want to chill and enjoy the surroundings . Definitely will be going back . Highly recommend to friends and family

The food and service was good as usual. The only thing that puts me off from dining here is that they dont provide a paper menu. You have to take a photo of the black board. We dined with two older people that dont have smart phones. This meant we had to share our devices which werent clear for them to read so had to read the menu out to them. In the end two of us opted for fish and chips as it was just easy, instead of keep having to remember what had been read out. It sounds a simple thing to do but its actually annoying.

Thoroughly enjoyed our time at the Star and Eagle. Service was exceptional. Great historical building.

I was ever so disappointed for our Easter meal here with my family, we had been recommended to this restaurant and it really didn’t meet our expectations, the food was okay no flavour and the food was Luke warm to cold and wasn’t enjoyable, my favourite part of the meal was the raspberry sorbet! I have a dietary requirements and I had ordered the nut roast and they didn’t tell me that there was cauliflower in cheese cream sauce. I always feel so difficult when going out due to my intolerances, so I didn’t mention that they added cauliflower cheese. Unfortunately I will not be visiting this restaurant again

We had a lovely family dinner here. Food was a more restaurant style than gastro pub - both in terms of presentation and quality. The room was traditional but cosy with white table cloths etc... Food was very tasty, tastefully presented and with a nice variety. Service was exemplary, our waiter was charming and the rest of the team really helpful. Nice for a small group or tete a tete.

Went for a 21st birthday and they let me decorate the table. Also they hung up a birthday banner and made a special dessert plate for the birthday boy. Excellent service and gorgeous food but run out of sorbet🙁. Otherwise 10/10. Been lots of times before and also had great service

Menu is not printed. It is on a board in the main bar so you have to take a picture of it to save hanging around an occupied table which is underneath.

Lovely food, lovely service - couldnt have been more helpful. We booked for 2.30 which was the final hour for ordering food. The staff were just lovely and didn't rush us or make us feel pressured. The food was really high quality and you could tell cooked properly from fresh. Would definitely go back again.

Food was lovely and so was the service. However whilst sitting in the restaurant we had to go through to the bar area to look at menu on a wall. (Or you could look through a window between the bar and restaurant). This is not ideal because you are looking over peoples heads as they are eating. The same as when you go into the bar area as it is situated where people are sitting. We got waved at by other guests whilst we were reading the menu and I don’t think you should have to look over peoples heads as they are eating /drinking .

Chose this for an anniversary meal. We had the slow roast belly pork which was delicious. The service was excellent and they made a beautiful dessert for our celebration. Highly recommended.

A friend and I have used The Star & Eagle for meet up lunches for around fifteen years. It's always a superb place with outstanding food and service. What we appreciate most is the fact we can book a quiet table and are encouraged to enjoy it and stay as long as we wish. This time was no different, and we were warmly invited to take our time long after the meal was done. One of the finest, most characterful and welcoming Kent inns in existence; set in a glorious spot by the church on the hill in Goudhurst. Always highly recommended.

It took almost 90 minutes after ordering for our food to arrive. The chicken was extremely dry, to the point of being inedible, no dressing for the salad, no water on table. It then took 30 minutes and three attempts to finally get the bill.

First time here but DEFINITELY not the last! Food was absolutely beautiful and it felt as though we really were being treated! Honestly, what a gorgeous place - who could want anything else!

We were staying at the Star and Eagle for two nights and ate there on both days. The first night was good but not outstanding. However, the next evening the food was great! Service both nights was good and the staff were very friendly. We would stay there again.

My much looked forward to Sunday Roast beef lunch arrived luke warm, was tasteless, and with soggy potatoes that tasted pre-cooked. The crowning glory Yorkshire pud stuck on the top of the stack was overcooked Pub grub but not at its best. The starter scallops however were fine. This was a pub bar, not a restaurant with bar staff not servers.

It was a bit slow getting seated so we sat down and waited. Chef gave me two fish as “they were a little small”. Staff are friendly and professional. There was a fat bird at the next table talking about rugby players’ cocks.

Service fine but food poor, I had the burger without the bun, it came with a square of cheese no relish and limp salad, rubbery texture and no taste. Partner had chicken also poor no taste . whitebait for starter and tasted of old oil and too thick. Didn’t stay for dessert and not asked what we thought of the food, especially as a lot was left . Shame this was a special meal , we won’t be going back.

This is a fine dining experience at bistro prices. The food was superlative and the service excellent. Three courses with wine cost us about £33.00 per head. Superb.

A lovely old pub with pleasant staff. The food was passable but not worth returning for; the mussels were in a pretty tasteless sauce, the only veg with the calves liver was a 1970s style onion ring and to top it all the meringue pudding consisted of two nasty shop bought meringues with ice cream, a couple of strawberries and a slice of kiwi. A 5 year old could have made it.
