We chose this venue as it was our son in laws favourite place to meet his friends. Sadly he recently passed so we chose to have the wake here. I can’t thank them enough for the kindness and lovely staff who served us all. The venue is perfect. plenty of parking and the food was excellent. Although the day was extremely emotional the venue brought us all together. Highly recommend! Just hope you all experience Stanshaws for a happier occasion. Plenty of seating inside and out! Thank you for giving our lovely Mike a great send off !

Great selection of beers and staff were really friendly and were great with the kids. Will certainly be back again soon.

Came here the other weekend for drinks with my mates. Weather was really good so we sat in the back garden enjoying our beers! Team all really friendly and highly recommend.

Paul, Katie and the team were all amazing on Tuesday hosting my dad's Wake. We could set things up in advance and the food was really lovely and more than enough for the 100 plus guests we had. Thank you all

It was my grandads wake a few days ago and it was hosted at stanshaws. The staff were lovely and very accommodating and made sure it was a great send of for my grandad

Beautiful surroundings..wonderful staff...we were going to the Birdcage but there was a huge queue so called into Stanshawes. The staff were amazing the food was lovely. Gracie and Ellie worked extremely hard to serve everyone quickly and efficiently..and were extremely courteous and friendly. The prices were excellent. Will definitely visit again.

I visited Stanshawes to have a meeting with a colleague. We sat outside as it was really warm for a change and had a very nice lunch! Service was good and my burger was really tasty. Nice spot :)

Sunday lunch for a birthday celebration was really lovely! Beef was melt in the mouth and potatoes and veg were great too. Would thoroughly recommend!

Lovely Sunday roast here after deciding to try out the new chef. This used to be a carvery on a Sunday but the food is now brought to the table with dishes of vegetables and cauliflower cheese. Really enjoyed it and everything was freshly cooked. I had beef but 2 of our table had lamb and said it was amazing! Will definitely be back again!!

Apr 2024 • Family Unwelcoming, revolting roasts and pretty poor service from some staff (the younger members of staff were very polite). Roast potatoes tasted like they had been cooked and reheated in a microwave. Lamb tasted like it had been shredded off a lamb shank rather than pieces of carved lamb. Veg was ok…ish but the cauliflower cheese was like mush (possibly out of a freezer packet) and dirty cutlery. Best thing about the roast was the Yorkshire pud. The host made us feel like we were an inconvenience. Overall a pretty poor experience and we will not return. Shame as the building gives the impression of grandness. Our experience was far from it.

This is a lovely family friendly pub! Lots of delicious food and friendly staff! There’s an outside seating for warmer days with a play area for the kids!

Whenever i come with my friend we always have dirty fries which have always been ok. Today though omg they were so much better i had the pleasure of meeting the new chef and he is lovely and his food is to die for. I love the cheese sauce that is now over the top. I dont usually finish a whole bowl but today was a different story. I shall be back again soon for more dirty fries

My husband myself and mum in law went to stanshawes for Christmas lunch. Unfortunately which tbh is usually very good had many a Sunday lunch here been excellent. Unfortunately this visit all veg cauliflower brocoli sprouts even carrots were not cooked. Not even able to get a knife in the sprouts. Very dissatisfied the gravy was watery and luke warm .possibly down to different chef ?? As generally it s a lady chef I've seen on a Sunday and her meals have always been great .we will still visit this pub as it local to us and are very friendly too also accept dogs (well behaved).

This is a lovely historic building from the 13th century. Overlooking Kingsgate park and with its own large garden and children's play area, it's the perfect place to stop off for a drink and a bite to eat, with or without the kids. Being dog friendly, it's also popular with dog walkers. It has plenty of seating inside and out, weather permitting. The staff are friendly and it has a relaxed atmosphere. We have eaten here many times, during the day and also in the evening. The food is very good and the prices are extremely reasonable. Portion sizes are larger than most, so it's certainly value for money. They have a large room upstairs, which can be booked for parties/funerals etc. Being close to Poole Court (Registry Office), it's been the choice of many to hold their wedding reception/evening party. We recently married at Poole Court and chose to have our reception here. As it was a small group of 27 family and close friends, we had our meal in the bar area. Our tables were arranged as we requested and covered in white tablecloths. We were allowed in first thing in the morning to put up decorations and set our favours and special gifts out on the tables. We also gave a member of staff the registrations of the cars so everyone didn't have to queue on arrival to enter them. When we arrived late in the afternoon, members of staff were waiting with our drinks and everyone was made very welcome. We had a 3 course meal and every single guest said how lovely the food was. To be honest, the lemon & lime cheesecake was probably the best we had ever tasted, it was absolutely divine. Thank you Paul and your team for looking after us on our special day. Your staff are an absolute credit to you.

Decided to give this a whirl as I was at a local establishment a few weeks ago and saw the attractive building on the way in. Excellent offering - very reasonable - beers good. Easy to park as long as you put your details in the tablet on the way in. fresh food cooked -- some home made i would think. Some small suggestions would be to heat the plates a little more as this is a big place and maybe a mushroom and tomato with the steak? Katie was excellent as our steward for the lunch - welcoming , thoughtful and efficient.

This place is great, I've had a few drinks here and some food. It's an amazing place to have food and drink. The staff are very friendly and helpful.

Had a very good Sunday lunch today.. I went up with my youngest boy and the chef asked him what meat he would like , he asked for chicken which is not normally on the carvery . But the chef ( he said he don't normally work sundays) said that's ok I can cook him up a piece of chicken , give me 10 mins, I thought this was very nice of him and made our visit very welcoming.. We will sure to visit again Lovely food and great member of staff to serve me

Went with a large (12) family group for a late lunch yesterday (22/04/2023) Food was really lovely. We had the some of the choices of jacket potatoes that were loaded with filling. The sandwiches that were lovely and had so many choices but went for the beef and horseradish and beef was beautiful. The burger was juicy and very nice. My husband went for the chicken with buffalo sauce dirty fries and the portion was really great size and he really enjoyed them. We had a few kids with us and the food was a good choice for them and good size. Will definitely be going back. Staff were very good to accommodate us as we didn't pre book and had a large party that all wanted to eat. Highly recommended this pub.

I've been a frequent customer of Stanshawes for many years. However after todays experience I doubt I will ever return. Was with my daughter, mother in law and young grandson. The 'normal ' menu wasn't available due to the chef omitting to order stock apparently. That was OK, we chose from the alternative menu and were pleased with the food. However....the atmosphere was entirely ruined by a group of 4 women nearby who swore profusely, shouted and were generally disruptive. They couldn't have cared less that there were young children and elderly people nearby. Not one member of staff asked them to tone it down. Stanshawes, you have lost some regular customers! Not a family orientated pub at all. More like a rough boozer.

Visited with my daughter on Aug 29th. Week later get an aggresive demanding letter from a company called Civil Enforcement. asking for £100 !Tried to speak with the staff at Stanshawes but they were not interested in helping. Will never go back.

We love coming here, the staff are always welcoming and great and always good to chat with them. there's a good variety of drinks available and offers! You can choose between restaurant food which is great with a good variety or Pizzas made to order....

Decided to take the family out for tea with great expectations for this place. We waited aprox 45 mins for our food which was a total disappointment. I had a tuna and Mayo ciabatta of which the bread tasted stale and the tuna hadn’t been...

Fantastic all round pub! Great people, food and great environment with something for everyone whether that be the park, juke box, pool, pub quizzes or just a simple drink.

We parked against the wall in the space closest to the birdcage cafe where that individual spot wasn't clearly signposted, we even warned another driver not to park in the space next to us that was clearly signposted It was a Sunday morning around 1030am....

The worst service I have ever experienced. Rude staff and expect payment upfront. Waited an hour for food with no apology. Ended up leaving without eating.

Just had a family meal here, food was tasty, well presented and there was plenty of it. Staff very friendly and helpful and the atmosphere was very good. Their new menu looks very inviting and we look forward to trying many of the dishes

Just been here for a meal, usually excellent with great choice and specials board. Today met with grumpy disinterested staff behind bar. No specials at all and limited choice. Requested if certain items gluten free to be told don’t know! No interest in checking so...

I have worked with many wedding venues, and sadly this venue was the most difficult. I called the day before to discuss delivery where I was spoken to extremely rudely. Basically the room was boiling so I would have to deliver a few hours before which is not a problem, however, I do not wish to be spoken to like an idiot. I arrived and the pub was busy so I waited and let customers get served before asking the arrangements.

Well where do I start!! We visited here recently having always driven by and thought that it looks like a great place! It was a lovely sunny day so we sat outside...that was the first mistake, there were young kids (no more than 13) smoking marijuana on the grounds, very openly and sharing it with some of the adults in their party. #coolman!! The adults did at least have the courtesy of going by the gates but we endured at least 3 sessions of them lighting up over the space of about 40 mins with the wind blowing it directly at us. We would have moved but we were too stoned!! So having the munchies we decided to order some food.....that was the second mistake. It was fairly quiet but the food took nearly an hour to come!! THANKFULLY the food was pretty good hence why I’ve given it 2 stars. Aside from the moody woman behind the bar with zero customer service skills, barging her younger colleagues out of the way to use the till, the rest of the staff although young were great and very friendly. The menu is alright, something for everyone but the pub is ROUGH!! Everyone drinking in the pub seemed to either work there or were related to someone who worked there. Such a shame as given the location, the beautiful building and obviously a fairly decent but incredibly slow chef this place could be amazing.

This place has to be the most awful pub in Yate. Food terrible and beer not kept properly. Do not visit. Landlord rude.

Went in for a drink one sunny Sunday and was shocked at the price of drinks. 1 pint of beer and two single rum and coke was 12 pounds. Most expensive in Yate!!

Went as a party of 12 this evening and had to pre order. Food tasteless and badly prepared. Lasagne burnt to a crisp. Fish was all batter. Pie served with cold mash and veg. Some guests finished before other meals were brought to the table. On checkback told the waitress but nothing was done. Plenty of other places serving far better fare.

The pub has ran out of drinks again no ciders and one larger. This is not the first time this has happened. Pubs a joke

Been to this pub often great atmosphere great service and lovely surroundings. We chose tis pub to have my dad's wake it was perfect they done us a buffet which was outstanding lots of food tea coffee cakes for after there was about 70 of us and there was a huge amount of food left over we couldn't manage it so locals polished it off. The service we had was fantastic. Can't recommend this pub enough. If your in the area well worth a visit nice gardens that back on to park great to sit in in summer.

Wow have just finished the best Sunday roast that I have had in a pub in a very long time, the lamb and beef were amazing the choice of veg was really good and the cauli cheese was very good. New decor as well which is nice all in all a very nice place to have Sunday lunch would highly recommend and will be definitely be back. Staff all very nice too.

It's been sometime since we last visited Stanshawes. We heard that it was taken over last December 2017, so we thought we would give it a go.

We planned to have a play in the nearby park with our children and then go into the pub for dinner afterwards. A disgustingly rude chef came out and verbally abused us for using the car park. He was very aggressive from the second he started stomping across the car park and gave us no chance to explain what we were doing. We told him we were planning to pop into the park and return to the pub for dinner. He made a sarcastic remark about us looking like we had a picnic so he doubted we’d be eating again any time soon. He also looked filthy from head to toe. Needless to say we didn’t return for dinner and won’t be returning to this place ever again! Disgusting customer service and what looks like very poor hygiene from the person cooking the food. A complete waste of a journey as the only reason we had come to Yate was to try out this restaurant. When we told the chef he’d just lost some customers he shouted “don’t care, that’s fine” as he stormed back off into the kitchen.

When I arrrived I was with my father waiting for the rest of the party, we ordered a coke with a beer but unfortunately the coke was flat as water, no big deal they swapped it for a can of Pepsi.

Been twice in one week as I was so impressed the first time. The food is fantastic, wide range on the menu and lots of great veggie options. Staff are friendly and welcoming. Will be a regular place to visit for us from now on.

We decided to visit Stanshawes for a late birthday meal as we hadn't been for quite a few years. Table booked via e mail with comfirmation back good. Booked for 6pm on a Saturday we were surprised to see inside was very quiet with no other diners,must have been the good weather everyone outside. Orders were quickly taken,food and drink,and the meals didn't take too long to arrive. We had chilli,spag boll,fish and chips,gammon and chips and the ham,egg and chips. All of it was pipping hot and beautifully cooked,large portions and the chips are to die for. I can honestly say they are the best in Yate,cooked in rape seed oil and delicious! After that only my lads could have dessert one having the strawberry cheesecake and the other warm chocolate brownie and icecream. Again a good sized portion. Service was excellent by all with any questions quickly answered, plates removed and the best part we weren't "Guys " I hate being called that. Budget £20 a head for starters, mains and a couple of drinks each and enjoy! If I could Stanshawes is a 10 out of 10! Our new favourite eat out. Well done.

My wife & I were looking for a local pub which does good food which was reasonably priced & we found one..On entering the newly refurbished Stanshawes Court we were happy with the new decor & friendly staff, we got drinks & Sat down but we were surprised how only 1 other couple were eating on a Saturday night, we decided to wait until the other couples food arrived to see what it was like & when it did it looked lovely so we ordered straight away! The menu is full of all the pub classics priced between £8-10 with a specials board & a separate pizza menu (pizzas looked great!) I chose homemade chilli which came with rice & nachos & my wife had burger & chips which came with fresh coleslaw & salad, both meals were piping hot & perfect! the burger tasted homemade too!..we didn't get to try dessert as they had ran out of both our choices (Malteaser cheese cake & fudge brownie) which was a shame but all & all it was a great meal & we will be back!..Calling all Yate locals support this good child & dog friendly pub/restraunt as it's just what our neighbourhood needs!

Today’s visit was our first in a fair while, having read recent positive reviews we decided to give it a try for Sunday Lunch with Mum; we were very pleasantly surprised. Stanshawes retains its external charm of a Grand Manor House but significant improvements have been made to the interior since our last visit. The bar area has been revamped with a brighter modern feel. The old style wonky tables and chairs have been replaced with a variety of modern and comfortable furniture that retains the ambience of the building, and the general decor has been refreshed providing a nice atmosphere. All staff were friendly, helpful and chatty, the chef was extremely friendly and jovial with all customers and had amusing banter with ourselves. The food smelled great, there were a choice of four meats, pork, beef, chicken and lamb with a large selection of vegetables and accompaniments. Portion size was very good, I was surprised to be offered a couple of slices of each meat on offer and I added a hearty portion of potatoes, cauliflower cheese, roast potatoes, carrots and swede; the gravy was nicely thick and proper tasty. The food tasted as good as it smelled, all meats were very tender and the veg was well cooked making for one of the best Sunday Lunches I have eaten and it was exceptional value for money given the very reasonable price. Well worth a visit, and if you have not been there for some time, you too may be very pleasantly surprised.

The refurb. has been a great success looks fabulous. We are new customers we visited the pub in November for lunch and we had lunch today and the food is superb well done chef. The pub is like home from home and Sue, Paul and Lynn cannot do enough for you to make you welcome.

If you remember the old Stanshaws’s then you will love the transformation the paul and sue have done, from replacing the curtains to the bar, new and comfortable chairs and a proper dining area. The menus are new with a good selection of home cooked food and specials along with a pizza menue, three cask ales and a large selection of larger sand ciders available. A large beer garden is available and now has lighting and a large function room. with pool and darts on offer the transformation has lifted Stanshawes into this century while retaining the character of the original building.

The place has now been revamped & is very nice indeed.The food is very good & i would recommend coming here.

.Avoid... unless a venue actually cares about customers and their opinions... avoid them.. I have clearly been told tonight that its about money. They will lose customers and gain them.. but they are not a charity.. we dont expect a charity.. but when a childs pasta meal is served in a small ramakin dish and the other child has 2 sausages, large chips and lots of beans... thats quite a difference .. we don't mind paying for good food and service.. we got neither.. the man serving the food had to check with the bar who the food was going to ! not very well organised.. bring back John.. not that it matters.. as we wont return

Couldn't fault the service at stanshawes today, garden was busy, restaurant bustling, read the literature they are spending a lot of money renovating. fish and hand cut chips fantastic! will certainly come back again, kids menu was very good, lots of choice, elder person in the party who is fussy even managed to find something, thanks guys and keep on with the hard work! No longer a 2 for 1, but to be honest, don't like those sorts of places any way!

New head chef Santia is amazing and has brought in a new healthy looking menu. The salads look and taste stunning. Prices are equivalent to other places yet food is of a higher level.

My brother and I visit Stanshawes Court most Sundays. We take our elderly mother and have been so impressed with both the staff and the food. We are made very welcome and mums vegetarian diet is catered for. It is very good value for money and we are now joined by our spouses and occasionally other members of the family. The chef is very jolly and always makes a fuss of our 93 year old mother.Service like this is hard to find.

nine of us had lunch, five chose from the pensioners 3 course menu which is very good value at £8.95 and the other four from the buy one get one free menu. I had prawn cocktail, fish, chips and peas, and caramel gateaux, all of which were very good. we will certainly be returning to sample more from the varied menu

The atmosphere and the building is stunning: it seems a real castle.In addition, I ate with a friend during the week and the price was very very cheap, with a good quality and a friendly service. To try again

My husband and I took my Dad out for a meal to Stanshawes Court in Yate.The meal was OK. Probably the Omelette and Chips was the best meal at £4.50.

We visited twice - the first evening for dinner, which was OK in an ordinary sort of way, and the second evening for a Wedding Reception in their Function Rooms upstairs. The Reception was excellent, with very good catering, good service and the entertainment provided was fine. In all, a good experience.

Went to stanshawes court Sept 25 to treat our granddaughter and husband to wedding anniversary Sunday lunch. This was our first Sunday visit advised to book a table on arriving I could why all tables booked. OK now for the food review choice of three meats beautifully cooked all vegetables fresh and plenty of it. I would definitely recommend it. I will definitely be returning again

We were married on the 20th August 2016 and had our reception and evening at stanshaws,the chef did a brilliant job of the meal and buffet they were both lovely and all the staff were brilliant and so helpful,they helped clear everything away so you didn't have to worry.its set in a beautiful park so you can get some great photos,and it has an amazing staircase that we took some lovely photos on.we would highly recommend stanshaws to anyone.

Had the pleasure of stopping off at this fantastic place on the busy bank holiday weekend. The building itself is a sight to behold, a real hidden gem with a fantastic garden that's backs onto a great family park. All staff were very friendly with great customer focus and the food was spot on. Will definitely be visiting again!

We recently had a surprise wedding reception at stanshaws and what a great day it was! The staff were absolutely brilliant. They helped with the organising, the buffet was delicious and got stuck in and helped us decorate the place. It was really busy but it did not effect the service and the mood of the staff. The venue is perfect for either a big gathering or just a small get together. The food here is truely amazing. Worth a visit! Over looking the park makes it that much prettier. Would defiantly recommend the stanshaws to anyone!!

My family and i spend alot of time in this place. Rangeing from playing darts, meeting friends or just to pop in for something to eat. Never a dull moment or bad meal had. Sunday carvey is fabulous as they serve a choice of 4 meats. Menu is good mon-sat great value for money with their 2 for 1 deals. Portion sizes are very generous. Lovely play area for children (or adults) to play outside and park very convenient. Great room for hiring out upstairs for private parties and weddings - very spacious and comfortable. The Bands that come to the pub are brilliant most are on a friday night but this can vary. Sunday afternoon bands are the best. Great atmosphere and staff are lovely.

we Are from Yorkshire but was here to meet family. we had a lovely meal , my sister who is a veggie said her leek and cheese pie was lovely and best meal of our holiday. The chef/owner was a great host and we had children with us and the was great with them. would go again

A group of us went to Stanshaws Court for lunch on Sunday. First of all we wondered what we were in for as there were people having drinks in the bar with their dogs in tow. We had reserved a table as did many others. They certainly had plenty of customers. No wonder - the food is very good and the prices are reasonable.This isn't the smartest venue we've been to but the staff were very friendly and efficient. On Sundays they only serve carvery meals but there was plenty of choice and it was delicious. The desserts are very good value for money. During the week they do special offers on their varied menu. Definitely a place to go back to.

I was really pleased how well the evening went. We took our children and grandchildren. The food was excellent and we didn't have to wait long for the 11 meals to be cooked. The Chef was very friendly and helpful. The meals were very good value. We will definitely be visiting there again.

the food was well cooked and tasty at a good price only £12 90 for 2 drinks tuna jacket and sausage egg beans and chips.

As always a lovely, fresh and tasty lunch. Loads of choices on the menu to keep the kids happy and very generous portions all washed down with a pint of Thatchers ( coke for the kids ) A really lovely couple of hours spent in a beautiful building , with a view of the park , fantastic hosts Paul & Sue and topNotch grub from John the Chef & his team.
