We tried to catch afternoon tea, but were appalled by the downmarket clientele. We immediately left. Avoid at all cost.

The Hotel now has an outside veranda and sitting opposite the beach was wonderful. We had a cream tea in the sun and although many people were there nothing was too much for the staff they were excellent. I have another cream tea booked and for a Birthday we also have an unlimited Presseco cream tea what could be better than that sitting on the lovely veranda outside. Not to be missed if you visiting Hythe.

I had lunch with three family members. We were made to feel welcome and our Italian waiter had a pleasing personality and added to our enjoyment of the meal. I had chicken, two others sea bass and another steak. All of us were pleased with the presentation of the food, including starters, which we all enjoyed. We had a table with sea views but on the day we did not see much because of the storm raging outside. Unfortunately the restaurant could do little about the weather but they compensated with their hospitality.

I visited with my partner for lunch on a Groupon voucher - the website stated choose from dishes like Lamb Shanks or King Prawns and stated we would save over 50%. The waiter was very nice and gave us the menu pointing out we could only choose from the Sunday lunch menu which gave 3 choices, Roast Turkey, Poached Salmon or Mushroom Wellington. We asked the waiter if there were any other choices as we were not really liking any of the choices and he went to see the chef who offered additional choice of Sea Bass or Roast Chicken, so we chose these. I chose the smoked salmon starter and my partner the tomato soup. Well the smoked salmon was just that a few pieces with just a slice of lemon, the soup portion was very small - no bread or roll. My Sea Bass was lukewarm but the sauce was tasty. My partner enjoyed his chicken. About 2 hours later I experienced a very upset tummy and it was a good job I was at home. The Menu we chose from was priced at £12:50 which was about what we paid so it was only the wine that was actually free. We will not be returning.

We go away for new year every year and I can honestly say, the Stade has topped the list from the last 3 years. The staff were friendly and couldn’t do enough. The food was amazing. The rooms were clean and comfortable with amazing sea views. The only thing they could have done more is wash our vehicle outside which obviously didn’t pay for bed and breakfast! If you want perfection..... go down the beach front a little and stay there but make sure you take more money more manners and more disappointment. If you want value for money.... book now! Before it’s too late. Forget 4 in a bed, that’s a competition between proprietors. The real experience was a pleasure. Like Arnie...... we will be back 😊

We were in Hythe yesterday visiting family and decided to go to the Stade for a quick Drink. It was 9.45 and I ordered a drink for me and my husband and was questioned straight away whether we were staying there. I said no, as we were booked in somewhere else and the barman said we could not have a drink after 10pm!!! The place was cold and unwelcoming and I found the attitude of the barman completely rude and discriminatory. Will not go there again and advise anybody who reads this review to avoid the Stade and find a friendlier place to have a drink. By the way, the rooms are aweful and not worth the pittance you pay for them. They did not do well on Four in A Bed And I am not surprised because of the state on the place.

I needed to cancel me and my sons room due to family circumstances and I still had to pay the full price for the stay, which I understand. I was then charged for the cancellation of the room that I had already paid for that we were not staying in. My whole family live in Hythe and I come from Hythe. I would strongly recommend not to stay at this out dated hotel

A friend booked lunch for both of us on a Groupon voucher. Had not dined here before so was not sure what to expect. We were shown to our table by a very pleasant Italian waitress and were able to choose the table we wished as we were told we were the only diners for lunch that day!! Have to say the menu was uninspiring with only 4 choices available for main course. Both our mains were served with what appeared to be frozen vegetables, so not a good start. For dessert, both of us chose cheesecake with berry fruits but were disappointed when it arrived. Tasted as though it came from a packet mix and served with berries, again these were defrosted frozen fruits and the strawberries were discoloured and full of water. The only saving grace was the glass of wine, which was included, and the attentive waitress.

We stayed at the hotel so though we would try the restaurant, we were a group of 8. The menu initially looked quite good....then our food came out, 3 meals had to be sent back, as were undercooked/overcooked. Whilst the staff were helpful and money was taken of our bill, it was poor food for the price you pay. I wouldn’t eat here again.

Had a great lunch for a group of 34 of us. The venue (the upstairs restaurant) is lovely with its view of the sea (nice even on a wet day like today); the table was nicely decorated and the food and service were great. There was a good choice of menu with three courses and coffee and mince pies for £21 and everyone seeemed to enjoy it. I had a big Tea Party here for 38 people a couple of months ago which also went well which is why I suggested this hotel for our Christmas Lunch - not an obvious choice but a good one!

We arrived for lunch at approx 11.35 today (14/08/18) very slow to order. Finally I ordered by 12.05 and advised the barman that we needed to leave by 1.00 at the latest. Food did not arrive until 12.55 so I had to take my beef baguette and eat it whilst walking back to our coach. It was very gristly. My wife had ordered a baked potato with tuna but this arrived at 1.00 so she had to rush it and it was almost inedible. If there was a problem with providing the food we should have been advised at the stage when we gave the staff a timescale.Even worse one of our party ordered a fishcake meal at 11.35 and it took the staff an hour to decide and advise that there were no fishcakes so she had no lunch as it was too late to order anything else.Out of the 15 people in the party no one was happy with their food and had we known how long and how bad it would be we would obviously have gone elsewhere. We will not be visiting this hotel in the future as they take the money but do not provide edible food in a timely manner.

My elderly mother wished to take our party of 6 out for dinner whilst having a break with us in Hythe so we booked for dinner what a mistake. The staff were mainly very friendly and helpful but clueless and did not understand simple requests.Once we had been given our menus they were very impatient and wanted an immediate starter and main order. The starters were shocking - the worst being the "prawn cocktail" this was made up of tasteless prawns which had an equally tasteless sauce the prawns had not been drained and were very watery they were served on a flat plate with dark brown bread spread with a thick layer of something?? Not butter! The olettuce garnish was mess..a small pile of hacked lettuce. The pate starter looked like it had been dropped from a height on the the plate. All the mains were disgusting - Thai green curry was tasteless and served with rice which was crunchy we were not sure what it tasted of but it was not Thai green curry. The pork and chicken roast dinners were served with very salty gravy and undercooked..very undercooked vegetables.Only two of us risked pudding..the custard served with the apple crumble had the lumpiest custard any of us had ever seen. The bottle of white wine ordered was warm ..when we asked for ice to cool it down the staff reluctantly brought an ice bucket. When the incorrect bill was queried the senior waiting staff member was very defensive and aggressive. The visit was a disaster..My mother was so disappointed and upset. I used the ground floor W.C on my way out...not the cleanest with no toilet paper.I informed the two surly male staff members sitting on the reception desk ..who didn't even react or reply.Never again!

The food when it arrived was quite tasty, but we received abysmal service from the dithering waitress.Firstly they have a large advertisement outside stating £11.95 for meal and a drink. When we asked about this we were told it was only available on Sunday. After challenging and showing her the sign and she’d checked twice a new menu appeared! Then we ordered our drinks, after 15mins we went in to see where these were. All but one were sat on the side waiting to come out and and clearly had been for some time, including 2 coffees. We ordered 6 meals, 5 were served together....after waiting 5 mins I went in to see where the last meal was to be told the chef was busy and had started something else so it ‘was just on its way’ utterly bizarre... surely you complete one full order at a time??!! Oh and on 3 if these meals despite requesting garden peas we were given mushy peas when challenged we were told their delivery hadn’t arrived yet! (Bag of peas from Tesco is less than £1)Then we asked to speak to the manager, when he eventually appeared there was no apology forthcoming instead he defended his waitress by saying ‘is the food good? I only care about the food!’ that is unfortunately why despite the food being quite tasty we will never be back. Service should be just as important... a lesson this man will learn quickly while he looks at his empty restaurant. I should stated He did eventually offer 25% off our meal, which was a fair offer and had he come straight out apologised and done that I probably would have left much happier rather than raising his voice to me.

We had a Groupon voucher for the 3 course meal, well never again. We weren't asked if we wanted drinks so had to ask for a bottle of wine, this was was put on the table in front of us unopened and we had to ask for it to be opened. This was brought back to the table after we'd finished our starter, minus the cork. The pate starter was 1 thinly sliced piece with 2 shop bought slices of melba toast with a little side salad with soft wilted lettuce. The mains were bad, 1 plate had 2 pieces of beef in the beef stroganoff and the other had just 4 pieces. 1 plate had cauliflower the other had none, the green beans were watery in a way that only frozen veg can be and the broccoli and cauli were rubbery, the only decent veg was the carrots (which I can't stand). Then the pavlova for dessert - 2 shop bought meringue nests layered with squirty cream and strawberry sauce with a couple of tinned strawberries on top. I would be ashamed to dish any of these up indoors let alone to paying public. We did complain about the lack of meat and got 10% of the wine. Wouldn't recommend this at all, now we know why we were the only people in there!!

2nd visit and after the first visit, I was looking forward to an Afternoon Tea. However, it was not nice at all! 3 finger sandwiches Tuna, Cheese & Pickle and a chicken sandwich, well a thin slice of cheap chicken roll. It was totally bland, don't be fooled, nothing like the photographs. The scone was OK, then two half inch cubes of stale cake. Utterly disappointing.OK, I didn't pay much as it was a coupon from Groupon, but even so, for £10, I would have put on a far nicer spread for twoI mentioned it to the Manager, who was less than helpful, said we should have asked to change the sandwiches. He checked my booking and I can only presume when he saw it was via Groupon, it was as if to say, well what do you expect! Well Sir, I expect more than a Tesco value Chicken Roll sandwich! Purchasing through Groupon, should not mean you lessen the taste and freshness to the food.I will not return to the Stade Court for afternoon tea and would certainly not recommend this to anyone else.

We decided to eat at this hotel as very few other places were open on a Sunday evening. To begin with we ordered drinks. My husband had to explain what Bombay Sapphire was even though it was offered on the bar menu. He then had to locate it on the shelf for the girl on the bar! It came with no ice or lemon as these were not offered. My husband then asked for a slice of lemon and had to quickly stop her from adding lemonade! We ordered fish and chips from a bar menu. We received instead a kids meal each of fish fingers and chips which we obviously returned. When our real meal came, the mushy peas I had ordered with the meal were literally freezing cold as if they had just been tipped out straight from a tin! We had to leave many of the chunky chips as they were so hard! The fish was mostly batter, hardly any fish! Quite poor for a fishing town! The same barmaid asked us at the end whether we had enjoyed our meal and we explained that we had not and the reasons why. Her reaction was just 'Oh.' Her superior was nearby but no one came to apologise. We left straight away and will definitely not be returning!

We used a groupon voucher to see what this restaurant was like. The "offer"menu looked nice but the food was dismal at best. I dont think they had a qualified chef as the food was rubbish and probably nearly all bought in.Starters: Pate bought in. Served with bought in toast things Melon with coulis. Fruit salad on a plate, no coulis.Mains: Pasta. Barely warm. Gammon and chips. Burnt.Dessert: Fruit salad (see starter!!) Served in a bowl rather than on a plate. The wine was very overpriced for a cheap bottle of wine. The lady on the next tables whitebait starter was really overfried. The prices on the main a la carte menu are way too high for food that probably came from Brake brothers.Definitely not recommended. On entering the hotel I was pleasantly surprised and the waitress we had was polite, warm and friendly, however the food wasn't up to scratch. The starter was ok but meagre especially the 2 small crackers I had with the pate. The whitebait was over fried but alright. The main was gammon which was tough as old boots and inedible. Come here when there's nothing around and you need to just fill your tummy when you had a long day. People shouldn't come here voluntarily."Authentic" chicken tikka masala was super watered down. Literally, like they spilled a cup of water in the sauce and decided to just serve it any way. The "Mexican style" nachos is something I make at home because I'm lazy: open a bag of chips, melt cheese and pour cream and bottled Pace salsa on it. The beef lasagna was alright, needed more flavor, but did the job. They charge for still water which is annoying.I'd rather have cup of noodle.

Myself and my wife decided this year to avoid christmas at home so we got busy on websites looking for deals away.We usually go to the Hythe imperial for New years eve but this year we just could not get in at new year so we went for xmas but we could not get in on the celebration packages. We had a dilema !Where can we go for christmas lunch as we were booking at such a late date. I called lots of restaurants all to no avail. Then i thought i would call Stade court expecting to be told no chance but to my suprise they said yes. They could do a xmas day lunch for £45 each which was very reasonable and only a fraction of the price of the imperial lunch which was not available anyway. So i just booked and paid there and then.We arrived on time at christmas lunch wondering what we had let ourseves in for.I am glad to say we were more than pleasantly suprised. Our table was ready and decorated with all the christmas party bits.We sat down and then to our suprise we both received a gift from Santa .The amazing 5 course meal that followed was second to none consisting of a smoked salmon and prawn plate garnished with caviar and salad followed by a refreshing sorbet Then the main being traditional turkey and ham with all the trimmings followed by xmas pud then warm mince pies coffee or tea.I take my hat off to the chef and all the staff the quality and the service was way above the 3 star rating this hotel has. What is more we have since discovered that the lunch at the imperial was terrible and a lot of people we met confirmed this.We so made a good choice Well done Stade court staff you were all excellent you have just gained our business for next year and we will be telling our close friends too.

Like a few others on here I booked an afternoon tea at Stade Court using a groupon voucher. I took along my two young nieces as a treat for one of there birthdays and my friend also joined us. On arrival we were taken up to the restaurant area and seated in the window at a table overlooking the sea which was lovely. The waitress was very efficient and polite asking us all what we would like to drink, even offering my nieces hot chocolate which I thought was a nice touch. The afternoon tea came out on a pretty 2 tiered slate cake stand which had a nice selection of finger sandwiches including cray fish, salmon and ham and mustard. An additional plate of sandwiches with more simpler fillings was given to my nieces which they were pleased about. The scones were tasty and we had a good selection of small desserts type things. I personally would have preferred more traditional cakes like a Victoria or chocolate sponge to the desserts with the afternoon tea but that's just my personal preference.Overall I thought it was great value for money the staff were great with my nieces so I would return back again.

Like others I went here having bought a voucher through Groupon.....The only good thing was the Hotels stunning location...over looking the sea!On arrival we were met by two dreary members of staff who seemed half asleep....they pointed to the table we were allocated which was layed up with chunky cups and saucers with no tea spoons, knives and forks set for dinner and paper thin napkins....It was ages before we were asked what drinks we wanted and no choice of teas was suggested....we had to ask! When the "luxury afternoon cream tea" arrived it was very disappointing....3 tiny finger sandwiches each, soggy tiny bite size pasties and 2 cold small scones which hadn't risen at all....the jam had no fruit in it and the cream was over whipped and had started to separate!...Appalling!!The two dippy girls never asked if we wanted more tea....we had to ask!!We ordered a bottle of prosecco and they were going to serve it in wine glasses until I asked for flutes.....when it arrived the girl just plonked it on the table and didn't offer to pour it for us....At no point did either of the girls ask if everything was alright or ask if we needed anything else.....I think this is possibly the worst afternoon cream tea I have ever had and would certainly not recommend it to anyone.....I had bought this voucher as a treat for some special friends and if it hadn't been for the fact they were with me and I didn't want to make a scene....then I would of complained big time!!!Just because this was bought as a voucher shouldn't mean we receive bad service and poor quality food....these vouchers should be a way of promoting business....Would I go back....Absolutely NOT!!!

Like several other people, I also had a Groupon voucher for a luxury afternoon tea. What a mistake. Luxury certainly did not apply to this tea, 3 mediocre finger sandwiches, a selection of pre- frozen soggy bite sized fancy cakes and 2 scones that were tiny, over baked and had not risen. Indifferent red jam, could have been anything and a small portion of cream, just about enough if spread thinly on the tiny scones. As to the crockery - it may have to be strong to go in a dish washer - but I prefer to drink tea out of something a little finer than a cup the thickness of a terracotta flower pot. Entrance to the hotel is not very welcoming and it is all very dated, last visited about 15 years ago and it looks the same as it did then. Restaurant overlooks the sea, but that is its only good point. Definiltely will not be returning here, will stick to Mary's Tea Room in Dymchurch.

Its not very often I write a 2* review. What went wrong? Like another review, we too had a groupon voucher. "Enjoy a luxury afternoon tea, etc, etc." the advert proudly stated. You book 24 hours in advance, to confirm your time of arrival. This I gathered was to make sure its freshly prepared for you?So onto the review, I have to point out, that this has no "bad marks" for the one member of staff we encountered. He was the only shining star.* We gave our details at reception. The chap on duty there then took us up a couple of flights of stairs & into a small dinning area & to our table.* The view from our table was overlooking the sea.* The friendly reception chap then became our waiter!!* He brought our food & tea etc, to our table & checked if we were ok. He said, if we needed anything, he would be in reception. Poor lad, felt sorry for him!* On to the food. Not quite sure what or where the luxury part was. A few finger sandwiches each, tasteless & border-line stale.* Two scones, cream, jam each. They were saving grace.* To finish a selection of "Quality Street" sized cake things, without the quality. Mass produced & frozen style. To be honest they were horrible. That was it, we were there 20 minutes.Luxury Afternoon Tea, really should be re-named, Tea Break.Sorry won't be returning.

Awful, wouldn't recommend and won't be returning. Staff okay but the room was tired and out dated but worse was the abundance of dog hairs on the carpet and bed valance.

Went here for afternoon tea with a friend having bought the offer through Groupon.......never again. Quite possibly the worst afternoon tea I have ever had.Having never been to the hotel, I was surprised by how dated it is. The reception area is very dark and not overly welcoming. As we were taken up to the restaurant on the first floor I was presently surprised by the view out over the beach and sea, which is fantastic. The room itself was not great and is clearly where breakfast is served, as was evident by the crumbs covering the table allocated to us. Also, from looking around the room it is very tired looking and would look better if whoever had wallpapered it had actually taken the time to match the edges up!We were bought out a 'selection' of sandwiches, cakes and scones. The small cakes were all bought in rather than made and tasted as if they had been frozen before hand. The scones looked to be homemade, however were on the small side and over baked. The jam was good, however the cream was not and had a slight sour taste. The sandwiches were very poor and had been obviously made well in advance. There were two small cheese and pickle, two small cheese and ham and two small prawn. The prawn ones were just prawn with butter, no lettuce or Mayo and i counted that each finger sandwich contained 5 prawns! The only good thing about our experience were the staff, who were very welcoming and attentive, and I imagine they are often busy because as well as serving us they also doubled as being receptionists. Needless to say, I won't be going back and I'll be looking more closely at my groupon purchases in future. It's just such a shame as the location is fantastic and so much more could be made of it there

Having been a Hythe regular for over 40 years, I have yet to find anything that attracts me to the Stade, although it is not an obviously bad place. Boring and ordinary probably describes it best. No reason to go there. No reason to be particularly upset if you end up there.

Its location, right on the seafront: a reasonable sized, standard hotel room, clean and functional.ALL the staff very friendly and professional.Buffet breakfast excellent and evening dinner quite acceptable . . . with a reasonable variety of dishes available, including curries.Handy stopover to/from Channel ports.Hotel is a little bit of a maze and the lift, while serviceable, a tight squeeze for 2+luggage ;-(Car parking somewhat restricted. Would recommend booking ahead.

Wouldn't recommend this. Very dated, cold and impersonal. Not a comfortable place to spend time. Needs money spent to update-which would be well spent as there is a market in this area.

The 2 course meal wasn't bad but the restaurant is in serious need of refurbishment. It's in a fantastic location and could really pull the crowds in but unfortunately the restaurant is scruffy, with scratched tables, no background music, no atmosphere and apart from one other couple we were the only people in there on a Thursday night.

The small bar is well stocked and the service good. I watched the World Cup Final there. The bar food menu contains a good variety of dishes at reasonable prices.

We thought we would try a different venue for lunch . Big mistake , we should have realised that it might be a bad move as we were the only ones in the restaurant . Lovely view over the Channel , the interior was a bit dated , but hey ho ! I have eaten on every continent except Antarctica and have without a doubt this was the worst steak I have ever tried to eat . just to add insult to injury it took four attempts to get the bill right .We were invited to try again , not at any price I assured them .

Food was bland and disappointing, though it looks like they are trying to make up for it with quantity. Seems the chef doesn't want to be there. If you order sausage roll with fries, it will cost you £9. If you order it separately, it will be £7. That is, unless they give part of your order to someone else and then tell you they don't have any more, even though you already paid and been waiting for 10 minutes for the food. Just go anywhere else and you'll have better rating experience

We spent a cozy Sunday evening at The Famous Ship Inn. With candles on the tables and excellent beer, we had a great time.

My Father invited me at have a Christmas Lunch with Mum he and two old friends. The table was booked for 1.30pm and we were offered the Christmas Menu and the main menu. Please remember this is not fine dinning and not up to my normal expectations of Pub Food. The Christmas menu was £20.00 for two courses despite there being three on offer - so the waitress had to work out the actual costs - what not make it £25.00 for the 3 courses? I had the Sausage and Mash - potato was packet and the gravy was very nice with Onion and this added a nice taste to the meal. The starter was Carrot and Coriander soup with bread - warm - id have preferred garlic - but not offered. The sweet was homemade Ice cream - creamy - not sure it was homemade as it looked as if it came out of a mould. All in all service was good but the food let the place down again since my last visit with my parents. The atmosphere was cold as no heating seemed to me on - or very little. My legs were cold by the time we left. (Mum and Dad are in their 80s) Not a good experience
