We have been attending this venue for a number of years for a Family Christmas meal... a mixture of oaps adults and children 50 guests, the meal was pre-ordered the week before (from a limited menu) to give them plenty of time to prepare, the turkey and beef arrived but 5-8 minutes later the veggies arrived by this time the meat was cold,... I also thought the quality of food has deteriorated over the last few year... the were just 3 staff serving that included the bar maid.. on tempting to purchase a drink mid way through the meal we were told that the bar was closed for 10mins until the meal had finished being served which was more like 20-30 mins... the meal was not up to the usual standard.

Hadn’t been here before but decided to give it a try as we come from Bridgend & our friends from Cardiff. So easy to meet. Although we arrived early at 12 & the place was empty, we felt welcomed by the waitress. Had drinks & decided to go for the lighter options of flatbreads & sandwiches. Must say we were all very happy with the food. Excellent presentation, tasty & plentiful meals. More people arrived & it was a nice atmosphere in the bar. So much so that we’ve booked our Xmas get together there in December! Would recommend.

The bar was lovely, but the courtyard is lovely to have a drink before a meal on a warm day. We celebrate a birthday and the staff was so helpful, nothing seemed to be to much trouble for us. The food was excellent and the wine selection was good and I found the hotel did not excessively charge for bottles of wine. The table was decorated beautifully and it was just a shame that I and a few others were far to full to enjoy deserts! Would happily eat here again any time, and thank you to all the staff making it such a lovely evening

Lovely place to eat, food good although we booked in advance and were a party of 9, When the waiter took our orders there were many food items not available, considering we were the only ones there (6.30pm booking) , this was disappointing however what we did have was superb.

My partner and I have visited the resteraunt twice recently and have been impressed by the quality of service and food produced. My partner had the duck starter which was flavoursome and excellently presented. The portion servings were perfectly sized and set up the tastebuds ready for the main. I went for the fillet steak which again was superbly presented with proper chips, on the vine tomatoes and the best peppercorn sauce I have ever tasted. The steak was also very delicately cooked and was juicy. It seemed to be pan fried which retained the juices and didn't taste dry which is often the case when grilling. My partner went the same on mains and elected for the choux buns with caramel which again was packed with flavour and punch. I would highly recommend this venue. Tony the server was amazing and friendly. The ambience is very welcoming and follows a golf/nautical theme.

On original booking had asked to eat in the conservatory but due to a convention taking place ate in the bar area, this was no problem and seats were comfortable and we were not directly in front of the serving bar. Food was very good, piping hot and very tasty. Staff were friendly and attentive. (Only problem with eating at St.Mary's is internet connection is not good or unavailable.)

Didn't book just turned up at lunchtime. Sat outside due to canine company! Ordered 2 meals for £12. My husband had the gammon and I had chicken and mushroom pie. Really couldn't fault the meals in fact my pie was the best pie I had had. The chicken was proper chicken breast not that rubbery stuff you often get in pie and the mushrooms were delicious. Service was fast. The water feature, flora and fauna set a lovely scene even though the weather was a bit grim. Well worth every penny.

First visit for Sunday lunch and was well impressed by the meal we had. A choice of three roasts, turkey, beef and pork, plenty of it and very tender. Veg consisted of boiled and proper roast potatoes, roast parsnips, cauliflower cheese, carrot and suede mash and and a mix of broccoli, carrots, french beans and cabbage and plenty of home made gravy. Too full after the meal for a pudding but a good choice if you can manage one. The service was excellent, very friendly and obliging. Will definitely be returning, highly recommended.

Had a 2 course lunch here last week with a mate. Spent roughly £40 including 2 pints of Italian lager @ £4.50 per pint. The meals were basic and the fries were frozen chips out of a packet. The service was good and this is a very nice place in which to eat. However, they need to up their game as to the quality of the food. I had bread, olives, dipping oil to start and it was probably the worst I have tasted to date. I have played and enjoyed a round of golf at this establishment on a number of occasions so it was really disappointing to be served food that was undeserving of any praise. This is a great pity as the surroundings, buildings, ambience are all excellent.

What one considers friendly another considers too familiar; familiarity aside, the waiting staff were okay and worked hard. Sunday lunch pork, beef and lamb were all served with the same gravy and dull vegetables that all seem to have been both boiled and roasted. The starter of chicken liver pate was bland and appeared shop-bought. (I'm not saying it was, just that it seemed artificially bright, smooth and yet tasteless.) The strawberry cheesecake was tired (and, perhaps, (also) made off the premises). Two of my party thought the lunch good; had it not been for them, my rating would have been a 'poor'.

Booked Afternoon Tea for two within wine via Groupon. The food was well presented and started with tea or coffee (which was refilled throughout the tea) and a mini cup with tomato soup and sausage roll so different! Sandwiches, scones and cakes were tasty and enjoyable, in fact was full to bursting!! The only criticism was the size of the glass of wine which came with the offer - very small.

This year, we decided to go to this restaurant to eat Christmas Dinner. We were greeted by friendly staff who offered us sherry or mulled wine on entry! The starter was gorgeous. I had prawn, crab and crayfish salad to start (which I'd recommend). Then, a blackcurrant sorbet was served up by Tony's staff. It made me like it even though I'm not a fan of blackcurrant. Then the main meal came. The turkey dinner was probably the worst course because of the gravy. It was watery and didn't taste like proper gravy. I looked forward to the dessert most. The cheesecake was nice, but, it could be improved. The last course was coffee or tea and mince pies. In the end, the children had presents. And they were pretty damn good selfie sticks! I rate this restaurant 90 Points out of 100!

OK it was Sunday evening and I was eating in the bar but this wasn't fine dining. The basics were fine: king prawns in a crispy tempura batter and an albeit small sirloin steak. But the chili sauce dip lacked spice, the English mustard didn't have much of a relationship with Mr Coleman and the wine list was sparse. There was only one wine by the glass and it was rubbish.Service was fine but the meal lacked an edge.

I have visited this venue on a number of occasions over the years, mainly on the weekends.Friday-Saturday evenings and Sunday Lunch.Never had reason to complain.Good food and pleasent staff.I took a party of 8 to dine on Monday the 18thMay around 1730 hrs.The place was empty. Not a staff member in sight. We sat in the bar area for 10 minutes, and then decided to look around for signs of life.Found a cookin the kitchen, who then went to find the duty manager. On making an appearance heinformed the party that the restraurant was closed,we could dine in the bar/lounge areaHe served us with drinks, and then left us to arrange the tables and chairs to be able to sit together. After another long wait we had to look for him to place the order. One got the feeling that we were not wanted, and spoiling his night. The only good part of thisvisit was the pleasent waitress who turned up later. The standard of food was average. You can get better "Bar Meals" in local pubs for a lot less money. My bill £134.70 forpoor service and average food.Making another visit !! We had 3 courses - chicken liver pate with spiced apple chutney, a trio of roast meat & a berry cheesecake. The food was excellent, it looked good and tasted good, a beautiful array of fresh vegetables cooked to perfection! If I'm honest I would have liked a thicker gravy but the taste was there. Booked Sunday lunch carvery several weeks in advance for an office get together. Was called a couple weeks before and told carvery no longer available and we must pre-order from festive menu. Not happy but too late to start looking for something else. All the girls were smiley and friendly but the service was appallingly slow- had to ask multiple times for each course- not that busy so can’t understand why kitchen was so slow. Starter was fine. While waiting for mains, we popped outside and when we returned we saw every other diner had a Sunday roast! I asked the waitress and she said they thought it was odd- we were the only ones having the festive menu. I told her about the phone call and they asked for details so they could investigate who called me. The mains were poor- steaks were ok but served with Sunday roast sides- sprouts, carrots, cabbage and roast potatoes! All of us pretty disappointed. After asking 3 times for dessert, they arrived- tiny slices of shop cheesecake with strawberry sauce for icecream. Choc fudge cake was fine. Eton mess consisted of a tall glass of whipped cream with a half of a meringue nest stuck in top and 1 strawberry!!!! We refused them. By this time we’d had enough! They took the desserts off the bill but we still paid more than the Sunday roast that we booked for. Festive menu was simply the same menu with minor tweaks, more expensive. One of the girls insisted that the manager would call me the next day- it is now 2 days later and still no call so leaving this review as they have made no effort to contact me. Over 3 hours for 3 courses of , on the whole, very poor food- won’t be returning and let all our friends know!
