Squire's Cafe Bar in Waverley

Well, where to start? We were shown to our table, walking through a restaurant where nearly all the tables were dirty, not to mention the state of the floor. It was a nice touch to have a kids' menu with activities, but they had run out of pencils! It took a while for someone to take our order, though it seemed there was only one person doing so. When we got the food, the kids' pizza was burned, and it came with a pizza slicer. Not sure who thought giving a pizza slicer to a child was a good idea! The burgers were very greasy and full of gristle. The worst was the fish finger sandwich: three tiny pieces of fish, mostly batter, overcooked and dry, with no tartare sauce as listed on the menu. No condiments were offered, and there was no one around to ask or check on us. It was nearly impossible to ask for or receive the bill. My partner stood for a good 10 minutes trying to get someone's attention. He asked the younger staff members three times, and though the hostess walked past him, she didn’t even acknowledge him. When he finally managed to ask her for the bill, she said she was on it, but it never materialized. We then went to the bar, and what a palaver! They expected us to pay without even seeing the bill. We had to ask for a physical copy twice. As I suspected, we were charged for an item we didn’t receive, though it was eventually removed. Overall, it just wasn’t worth the price we paid.

A bit disappointed in my jacket potato today, it looked like it had been heated up around 5 times, as it was not fluffy and white but a shade of brown as in my photo. I had already taken it back because the potato was cold, and it returned 5 mins later! The skin is the best thing, but couldn't eat it as too tough. However my coronation chicken was really nice creamy and tasty 😋 and so was my salad. I feel prices have gone up and quality has gone down. Its a real shame☹️

I have had coffee and cake at Squires cafe on a couple of occasions now; on both trips I found the cake loaded with sugar making the cake sickly. I also noticed that another customer had removed the icing from his carrot cake, perhaps for the same reason. I did offer feedback to a staff member who told me the cakes were bought in and there was little she could do.

Called into badshot lea for breakfast Sunday at 10.30. Took a while to take order, our drinks arrived after 10 minutes, after another 20 min asked where our breakfasts were, they came back saying would be another 10 min, we had already finished our drinks, we cancelled, paid for drinks, and left, the old system was far better, if the place was busy you can expect a delay in getting your food, but it was fairly quiet, we eventually went to gold farm ordered full English breakfast, which arrived with drinks in 7 minutes, and it was cheaper, and the sausages came from turner's the butcher which we use, will not be going back, we preferred the old system.

Just a drink and cake pitstop for us whilst visiting the garden centre. Good menu if you fancied lunch and plenty of tables both inside and out. Staff friendly and good service. Cakes were nice.

Went for Afternoon Tea and couldn't have been made to feel more welcome or special. The table had all been laid up beautifully, the staff were exceptional in looking after us. The tea itself was presented on a gorgeous little stand and was very tasty! We really were very impressed, thank you very much for having us. We will be back!

Stopped by on way home for coffee as was getting tired and thought id buy a plant as well. Garden plants lovely..oh dear cafe ...coffee was undrinkable . Didnt order food as well because of coffee...very bitter indeed

this is the second and last time i visit and eat at squires bagshot lee garden centre first time was made to feel unwelcome ordering coffee and cake at 3.30 ask if the kids could have hot chocolate no was the reply back only milk or juice this was two week before chistmas 2023 this time 5/3/2024,thought we would have lunch this was on my plate looking like it had come out of the bin yellow and mouldy i put it to one side showed it to the waitress she said sorry but please i complained online but had no reply very bad customer service if you go on farnham rants on fakebook over 93 replys back stating back service and food

Sadly won’t be attending this cafe again. Queued for 20 mins to be seated, seated and then ignore. Asked several times and was told someone would be with me shortly. I sat with my elderly mother and sister and watched as several tables that came in after us were served first. Absolutely appalled. We just got up and left and went to Haskins which provided a fantastic meal accompanied by first class service. Similar has happened at the one in Milford/Godalming. Things need a review and staff need to be supported and provided with adequate training.

We were a family of 6 with 4 adults and 2 children. We were told we had to wait 35 minutes for a table because we hadn't booked. Who books a table in a garden centre ? We finally got seated and ordered and paid on the app. The adults food arrived over an hour later after being told several times it was just coming. The children's meals didn't arrive until more than 20 mi uses after that. Only one member of staff offered any sort of apology and that was only because one of the kids meals had been totally forgotten. Even a heads up about the wait would have been something. We would have walked out long before had we not already paid. And to top it all, it wasn't worth the wait. Very average food, dry chicken and poor service at premium prices. Never again !!

New cafe is very slow since they got rid of the table allocation system. Doesn't feel looked after, mess by the cake display, cleaning products left next to the napkins and straws. Staff slow and don't seem bothered to serve people.

How disappointing this visit was, we haven't been for a while but we were told there was a one and a half hour wait for a table in the restaurant as we hadn't booked. Went to the cafe bar and queued for a long time, we chose cheese and onion sandwiches as the cake selection was limited and we are both diabetic so a lot of sugar is a no no. The sandwiches (pre-packed) were stale, not much filling and little taste. There was obviously a staff shortage as someone had to come in from the store to clear tables. We were very surprised at the cost of things.

Very dark and unwelcoming. Very noisy. Tables not cleared. Annoying system where you have to order and pay then collect a disk to take to your table. This then flashes and buzzes when your order is ready and you have to collect it from the counter. Why can’t the order be made up and given straight away?? It surely wouldn’t take any longer? Not well organised at all. The staff seemed unfamiliar with the till, and the cakes were not even on the till menu this morning! A shambles.

Don't go here for a quiet coffee ! Very dark. So noisy with children yelling and collection buzzers beeping loudly all the time. We wanted coffee and toast. It was 11am. Toast only available in Restaurant ! So we settled for plain croissants..no plain ones just rasperry or almond. So we chose almond and asked for butter. Ten minutes s later my beeper went off loudly. Collected my order...two raspberry croissants and no butter. It was mayhem. What has happened to customer service these days ?

We had an excellent lunch - fish and chips, happy to learn all gluten free (for everyone) so no worry of any cross contamination. Tasted wonderful and we really enjoyed our lunch. Only downside was the temperature if the restaurant, trying to eat with a winter coat on wasn't relaxing though !

Don’t bother! Very depressing place for a coffee and cake. Virtually no daylight, dark wallpaper, poor lighting. Roof space looks like it was forgotten about during refurbishment. Slow service, all I wanted was a scone and tea and still had to wait with a buzzer until I was “called”, even though coffee shop was two thirds empty. Go to Woking Squires instead - so much nicer all round.

We can only speak as we found and what we experienced was a superb Christmas Meal. We had booked over a month ago to come here with our friends and our table for four people on Monday 4 December was at 13:20. Ok, so there was a small queue going into the restaurant area and the lady took several people into the main eating section. We had pre-booked up the Christmas festive menu and were seated with many others in the section which abuts the garden/Christmas Tree area. We were swiftly seated and our waiter Garth arrived to take our drinks order. The only negative was that many of the beers were not available as they had not been delivered yet. Anyway we all found something we liked to drink and then our starters arrived. The Prawn & Avocado Cocktail with crusty bread was delicious. Then after a 10 minute wait our absolutely superb Turkey Christmas Dinners with all the trimmings arrived. They were all absolutely amazing and we all were very fat and full afterwards. Garth gave us extra time to let our mains go down and then we were given our desserts. I had the Christmas Pudding with Ice cream and this was excellent. We really cannot fault the food or service given to us today in the Christmas Party area. Very Impressed with everything and looking forward to our next Christmas meal here later this week. Thank you for a great time we all enjoyed it very much.

Disappointing! Coffee lukewarm, no saucer, no brown sugar, no scones available (it was only 11am on a Monday). Freezing cold, too noisy. No chocolate for frothy coffee. Charged incorrectly - poster by til said £5.95 for coffee & cake, but we were charged £7.20?! A ridiculous faff to order at the table! Get your act together Squires Badshot Lea! Will take my custom elsewhere!

A busy cafe but one which needs an organisation rethink. Had to wait in line for 20 minutes to order in the cafe on a Sunday afternoon, and then another five minutes for preparation. The staff were working hard but appeared to go from one mini function to another excessively. The coffee was good, the cake ok. Comfortable seating.

I had some time to kill before meeting someone so thought I’d pop into the cafe at Squires Badshot Lea for a “quick” drink. It was a Saturday afternoon and not particularly busy. I ordered a luxury hot chocolate and was given a buzzer which would buzz when my order was ready. I struggled to find a clean table and eventually had to clear one my self (as did lots of other customers that were coming in) While I was waiting I also witnessed numerous people walking in and then walking back out again. The cake display was half empty, none of them had what they were so you had to ask the staff (this was clearly far too much trouble for them judging by the attitudes) I ended up waiting 17 minutes for a hot chocolate which granted looked quite impressive but was almost cold. I’m surprised with all the negative comments Squires haven’t done something about it!

Popped in to restaurant yesterday 23/11/23 Waited for quite a while to be shown to a table Restaurant wasn’t busy eventually shown to a table in a corner by a young girl we was left with breakfast menus which are only up to 1130 it was 1200 waited 10 for a waitress so we could get lunch menus didn’t happen so we decided to go to the coffee shop for coffee and cake instead another disappointing experience majority of the tables were cluttered with dirty cups and plates we left and went elsewhere for lunch All in all a very disappointing experience seems to be staffed with teenagers who have absolutely no interest Won’t bother again !

All of the catering staff at all Squires Garden Centres have to pay for their own food during their shift. I have seen kitchen porters (pot washers) work from 8 am until 5pm without any food because they have to pay for it.I understand that businesses have to make money and that staff can't order what they want off the menu but they don't even offer a staff meal. They could easily make a low cost spaghetti bolognaise or vegetable curry for the team to make them feel valued.But NO.Squires Gardens centres are all about profit before people. DONT BUY ANYTHING FROM THEM until they treat their staff fairly.

Met friend here for first lunch after lockdown because equidistant between our homes. Service very slow and my fish and chips almost inedible. Overcooked and looked unappetising. Very surprised chef had the cheek to serve it. I would normally not have hesitated to complain but this was the first time we had met for 5 months and to be honest a catch-up was more important than making a stand.

The staff did their best but the food was dismal - cold and tasteless - service was very slow and unnecessarily laboured - certainly not worth the money even at half price - would suggest this cafe should be avoided - I would also add the booking service was difficult and with the benefit of hindsight a total waste of time

If I could give it no stars I would! Been here almost 2hrs for a bit of lunch! Really quiet not busy at all so no reason for the hold up! An hour just for 3 scoops of ice cream which when they arrived we’re like puddles of sludge on a plate! Totally disappointed and extremely overpriced for what we got even with the eat out scheme! Would never have paid full price

Treated a friend to a meal here, they had salad, I had the roast, both were very enjoyable & tasty. Total bill £27.00, price a bit higher than expected, but none the less, good quality grub :-)

Went to Squires on Saturday for lunch and was disappointed......again!.......we have had Sunday lunch before and had to ask for meal to be heated......this time I suggested that something needs to be done......they will loose customers

Took friends for light breakfast. Plenty of staff but all in a hurry. We felt rushed by staff who all seemed to have their bad day faces on and pushed about by other customers being served around us. Hence food was stone cold when we managed to complete our order and proved to be tasteless. As much as I think the centre itself is good I would not recommend the cafe. Very dissapointed!

I have rarely eaten here although I will have the occasional Coke or cup of tea. This is mainly due to the high prices for very average food and which takes too long to appear. Some of the staff look totally disinterested and bored.

Staff are unhelpful and rude. Over priced with hidden extras; pay for cream on a scone! Why on earth doesn’t a “cream tea” scone come with jam and cream as a standard price! Not enough staff employed serving, “we are busy” should never be used in this industry as an excuse! Being busy is clearly good for business, but god knows why! Over priced, poor service. NOT RECOMMENDED.

Thoroughly recommend afternoon tea here. Took octogenarian mum for a birthday treat. Table laid with a neat picture framed reservation message. Lovely tasting sandwiches, light fruit scones and cakes. Nice environment. All for £15.95 for 2 people.

Visited for many breakfasts over the year, with a variety of people accompanying me. Unsure if they still do the BOGOF coffees before a certain time but that is what started me going there. The coffee is pretty good, the service is always quick and friendly. The food is fairly average, its all good stuff I suppose it's just not really possible to stand out when it comes to breakfast foods. The refits have made this a very nice environment to share a breakfast with company however. 4/5 would recommend

Dreadful service. I had to wait over 30 minutes for one waffle. I was told they can only make one at a time! When I finally received it, the waitress didn’t even apologise for the delay and wasn’t particularly friendly. The waffle was also disgusting and not cooked properly.

Inside are a few comfy chairs; outside is great in the sun. Coffee is average; service is average. But parking is free - so ideal for a meet-up with friends.

I visit regularly with my young daughter (who is disappointed when they run out of gingerbread men but there is lots of choice still) and have been compelled to leave a review this time as the counter service is just becoming too off-putting. There seems to be plenty of staff yet you have to queue for 5-10 minutes just to collect a cake from the counter (we don’t even have hot drinks and still have to queue). The 2 servers are both making hot drinks- there is no system. Not one making up drinks and one serving for example. On a separate visit one of our group ordered the crepes and were told ‘we don’t do them until 12 (it was 11.55)- I’ll have to get all the things’ well yes- why are these ‘things’ not pre made up ready to start?! There is no managerial presence and the staff though pleasant enough seem to flail about with no organisation in place. Soft drinks are expensive but they do have a water dispenser which is a nice touch.

While visiting the Centre, popped in for a late breakfast. Busy but the queue moved very quickly and before long we were enjoying our meal while sitting in the open on a sunny day

We stopped here on Friday morning 5th July 2019 and decided to try our two (6 item) breakfasts for £9. The food and service was excellent and I would highly recommend this to anyone. In fact we were not alone as there was a queue for the breakfast but it did move quite quickly as they had approx 3-4 girls taking orders and dishing up your food. If I had to say one negative it would be that the sausages were not nice a brown all over. I like my sausage to look like it has been evenly cooked all over with a nice brown outer coating. Some of the sausages on display had a brown edge and the reaming areas appeared anaemic. Having said that the sausage’s appeared cooked and the one I selected was the brownest I could see. We loved the food and the easy going relaxed atmosphere, certainly worth a visit.

Arrive here before 10am with a friend and its 2 drinks for 1. The coffee is good here, and there are plenty of tables outside in the warm sunshine - and not too many people here.

Whilst visiting Squires Badshot Lea to get some gardening items we decided to stop for a late lunch whilst we there.

Sitting outside, enjoying a coffee or tea in the comfortable chairs, is most enjoyable. When the sun is shining its even better!

Visiting Farnham and came here for lunch. Whilst not cheap you do get good food so comes down to “you get what you pay for”. Overheard customer saying breakfast was good... so came back next day and yes it was very good at a reasonable price. Staff were very good and friendly whilst working hard. Overall a good experience and well worth a visit

What a great joy to get two-for-one on coffee before 10am! Long may this continue. The coffee was quite good; it was served in a mug ... but unfortunately overfilled and spilled down the side of the mug. Seating is comfortable and spacious - so well worth an early coffee.

Older people were filling up the cafe at 9.45 enjoying a good old breakfast, whilst my friend and I enjoyed a nice coffee in comfy chairs.

We came here today and had chicken Goujons with roast potatoes and a jacket potato with cheese and beans with two cokes. It came to £22!! The food was really nice but £22 is extortionate. We won’t be eating here again

Food is really tasty. Love their new cafe. The sandwich bar is great too especially their prawn sandwich. The cakes are delicious.

Went here for my daughter's birthday lunch treat. Both had underwhelming paninis which were on the small side for the price. I was put off by the staff member emptying out the enormous salad bowl into the bin and, in order to do so, banging it on the side of the bin before then refilling it with the salad that was subsequently put on our plate! We also had a cake each. The muffin was fresh and gooey but overpriced. The slice of ginger/chocolate cake was not quite fresh but was tasty (again, overpriced!). On the plus side, the water was free from a help-yourself dispenser. The café is huge with lots of designated seating areas. The staff were doing a good job of clearing the tables.

Tried a cream tea today. About the same as other branches but the selection of cakes looked a bit dry. My mate would not be happy!! Average for a garden centre

This cafe is average; food is average, coffee is average; seating is average. But car parking is free!

Only had a coffee but it was good. The staff were friendly and polite. It was busy as people were arriving for their Sunday breakfast

My wife and I often call into Squires Garden Centre Badshot Lea Farnham. I last wrote a review for the restaurant here in December 2011 and I was quite disappointed on that occasion. Having said that we were pleasantly surprised this time and can only speak as we found. We had done a bit of shopping and as it was lunchtime we decided to see what was on offer. So glad we did, we used our buy one meal get the second half price voucher and both really enjoyed the food and the subsequent value. The place was very busy which is a real exclamation as to the quality and service that is now being displayed here. There is a negative and that is that drink prices here are not for the faint hearted. Even a small bottle of water will sting you which is a shame. It maybe an idea to bring in a drink with you and discreetly open this when you have your meal. Apart from that which is obviously a management decision to put so high the service and quality of food has greatly improved and we will certainly have another go when we are there over a lunchtime or even breakfast time for the matter.

Called in today to buy a few plants which seem very good but did not think the cafe worth a revisit. Ample selection of cakes but they all looked tired and tail end of weekend stock, unappetizing.

This is one of the best traditional English breakfasts at an affordable price in the area The format is essentially a manned buffet, with the choice of 6 options from a range of about 12 included in the cost tho must admit we wait until we have one of the discount vouchers occasionally offered at the tills.
