We went there for fish n chips today very disappointed. Been there before and had the same meal and it's been good . The fish was overcooked which made the batter much too hard, the chips were not the best and the peas just blanched so they were hard don't think they had been boiled at all. Have had a better fish n chip meal in Whimpy so will be going there in future. And what was on the plate today was not worth the price paid.

Very expensive sandwich. The bread was very dry as if it had been hanging about for a while. The side salad was tasteless despite salad dressing.

Expensive afternoon tea for what was on offer. No proper tablecloth, only a couple of tiny very basic sandwiches. Cakes were nice, but overall not £45 worth. Would not recommend. Other places offer a lot more for your money.

Used to visit Squires regulary for breakfast but stopped doing so as the food was never hot. Decided to give it another go today but wish we hadn't. Ordered 2 breakfasts and unfortunately both turned up barely warm. Surely it should be common practice to heat plates before serving food? Don't think we will be returning.

Visited this restaurant today for lunch. Our order was taken and food arrived very quickly, however there was no further service. Our dirty crockery remained on the table for the whole time we were there. We were unable to attract anyone to firstly clear our table and to order more items. Gave up and went to the till to pay and left very disappointed. We would have ordered additional food and coffees but gave up. Other tables close by had the same difficulty. Service was non-existent. I won’t be returning.

Came here with elderly relatives for lunch - as I've been doing so regularly for a good number of years now. The reason? This Squires cafe has consistently been, in my experience, a lovely calm place to have a meal. I enjoyed a delicious roast pork Sunday lunch - good slice of meat, lots of veg and a Yorkshire, great value for money. My relatives went for the lighter sandwiches, with the avocado-filled option well received. The venue is light and airy, and appears popular with young and old. All the staff were polite and friendly. I've only good memories of the family meals I've had here, and this continued today. Thanks Squires and team.

Have always enjoyed lunches at Squires so we thought we would go there for Mother’s Day. The service was poor, the food was Luke warm and had very obviously not been freshly cooked. We had to ask for one of the meals to be brought out as it had been forgotten. Our dirty plates sat on our table for over half and hour before having to ask for them to be removed. The whole thing was a huge disappointment and represented a total lack of value for money

I love Squires Shepperton and previously given 5 stars to meals but so disappointed with Christmas lunch. Roast potatoes were burnt toasted bread burnt, parsnips dry, tiny tiny piece of Christmas pudding. The pre booking of food didn't work and we had to go through it at the table despite having confirmation on my phone. Good points: the staff who are always cheerful and helpful and do their best. Table nicely dressed with white cloth and crackers. Soup, prawn cocktail and chocolate mouse very nice. Will this stop me returning for food at Squires no not at all but maybe Christmas lunch at Squires is a little ambitious at least it was on the day we went.

Mushroom and sage soup was a very unappealing consistency and taste was even worse! Coffees and teas were brought to the table on a tray and left for us to distribute which was a bit odd. After finishing we sat for at least 20 minutes with no clearing of the table or asking if we wanted anything else. I got up and went to get menus for dessert and approached the manager and told him about the soup. He says thank you for telling him but did not come to our table and still no clearing of table or a waitress. In the end I asked for the bill and decided to not have desserts. A waitress brought over the pay machine and expected me to just pay without even seeing the bill!! All in all a disappointing visit which will not be repeated any time soon .

first visit here and very impressed, we were a bit reluctant to try this cafe after having a bad experience at the Cobham branch but all our lunches were excellent, the gluten free beetroot and brie tart with salad was delicious and my son and husband really enjoyed the ploughman's. Had a lovely lunch here. My friend and I shared the Ploughman’s lunch. Was very good. Only thing was they forgot the boiled egg that came with it! Soon rectified by our lovely waitress! My only complaint was that we had to stand in a queue for about 10 mins to wait to be seated. Everyone was getting a bit fed up of the wait. You should be able to pick a table and then have a member of staff come and take your order. My elderly 96 year old friend was getting tired of standing as she has to walk with a stick. I spoke to the Manager and a waitress saw to us straight away.

The setting is nice, the staff are nice, the breakfast was awful. It beats me how anyone can cook a desiccated fried breakfast, but the cook managed it. The bacon was like leather, the sausage was dry as a bone, the black pud was brick hard on the outside and shattered into little pieces when it was cut and the hash browns were rock hard and dry. The egg was okay, although it showed little sign of frying. The fried bread was nice white bread, but it also showed little sign of frying. There was not a spot of grease on the plate. I know fried breakfasts are not particularly healthy, but if I order a fried breakfast I want evidence of frying and some fat on all the food.

Went there for breakfast with the wife yesterday (Sunday). For the English breakfast, you can choose what you want. My wife chose 6 items and I went for 9 (you can double up sausages, eggs etc.) The food was excellent as well as the very friendly staff from the moment Neil showed us to our table and the excellent service followed. There’s also a wide range of drinks available and I had a very nice freshly made smoothie and my wife had an orange juice. They actually have a 25% off promotion during January and are busy, so I would recommend that you reserve a table.

I have been coming here for years because it is a nice venue, local and the staff are friendly but I have recently come to the conclusion that I should not order food here anymore. Today I ordered breakfast: quite hard to mess up one would’ve thought: the breakfast baguette I had consisted of a cold dry baguette with no butter! The bacon was hard, the hash browns cardboard like and the fried egg undercooked leaving the white slimy and inedible. I only managed to eat the sausage and a tiny piece of baguette. I didn’t complain because I have in the past and it is such a hassle. Cooking a simple breakfast is not difficult. I think the simplest solution would be not to eat here anymore. Very disappointing .

Notice at entrance said they were short of staff but I didn’t expect to wait 45 minutes for a cup of coffee! 15 Minutes waiting to be seated (only 1 person in front of me). Order was taken about 5 minutes after being seated, then 25 minute wait before coffee arrived. If I hadn’t paid for it when I ordered I would have left. Young staff didn’t appear to want to be there and older staff weren’t very welcoming. Not a good experience.

Having booked an outside table for 10 30 all started well. But at 11 am we were asked to move because workmen wanted to erect a covered area. There were no spare tables so we either had to stay amidst the drilling or leave, so wevgot the bill and left. If they are having work done they should not have booked us in. I do not feel we were treated as well as would be expected. When I went to buy something at the till the assistant was quite facetious when I asked a question, I thought this was most inappropriate.

My husband and I visited the garden centre today and decided to stay for lunch. We both chose one of the specials, the roast lamb. when the food arrived there was no mint sauce, I had to ask a passing waitress to get some for us. I'm sorry to say that It was the worst roast dinner I have ever had. The vegetables were overcooked and the food was cold. The meat was tough and the sausage and stuffing were inedible and the food had no flavour at all. To add insult to injury we were charged £12.95 for the roast and £5.00 for two small bottles of coke. Never again, in future we will just stick to visiting the garden center.

I took my son for lunch and he chose ham, egg, beans and chips at £9.95. How difficult is it to get that right? The ham was two, wafer-thin, slices of reconstituted goodness knows what, the beans were cold and came in a tiny metal pot (if here were practising his times tables and we used those as counting beans, he would have only got half way through his twelve-times table), the tiny egg had the the yolk the size of a two-pence piece and the chips were soggy. We had no view just a wall and a screen ! The tasteless prawn cocktail was followed by what can only be described as a dry microwave meAl tasting Xmas dinner . Often frequent this cafe when doing some garden shopping. They are letting themselves down on some fundamental baiscs. The main issue is they are not using hot enough water and instead pour lukewarm water into scummy tea pots. Only one poor quality tea bag is used which results in a pot of tea tasting stewed and resembling the River Thames on a murkey day. The coffee is bitter and seems to have been lying round a good while.Shame as the cakes are really nice quality!

Must have been quite a while since I've visited the cafe at Squires in Shepperton- the renovations were a surprise. Seems a bit shambolic really. They have a member of staff 'holding you' outside (I'm sure they'd be better employed doing something else). Then they let you in when there's a till available (do I go to just any till if I want a cake or ice cream?). You're then under pressure to make an order even though you haven't really had a proper opportunity to assess the menu. Maybe I'm getting old but it all seems like they've made it unnecessarily complicated for the sake of it. On the day I visited they had no gas so the menu was very restricted anyway. Thus, I elected to have a jacket potato for which I ended up taking a seat and waiting 15 minutes. Previously they'd prep it there and then in 2 minutes...bingo.

This was the first time we'd been to the restaurant since it's 'Raffles' refurbishment. I was expecting ambiance with lots of palms and cane furniture but no, it was fairly standard café fittings with a dark stain. The grand piano was being 'tinkled' very loudly so, as we wanted a conversation, we sat as far away as possible. Another tip for ambiance might be to remove it's grey canvas cover entirely, not just push it back to reveal the keys.

We visited the newly refurbished restaurant at Squires for the first time. We realise this is early days but we were generally disappointed in a number of areas. Not quite knowing what to order we had the soup of the day which was tomato. We found soup quite watery and the bread soggy and limp. Not even close to the soup and crusty bread prior to the renovation. At least in the previous restaurant we could ask for the soup cover to be lifted so that we could take a look and decide if it is worthwhile. The ready to ladle soup took 15 minutes to arrive at our table - we had already drunk our coffee - again previously we would have taken it ourselves. The noise level at the restaurant counter and at the tables is unacceptable. The sound is hitting the flat roof and bouncing down making it impossible to hear people behind the counter and our own conversation.I have no idea what most things were on the menu I don’t recognise them. Sadly we will have to leave it a while to see how it settles down and return in a few weeks.

I write this not only on behalf of my husband and I but the elderly couple we know well who have visited this garden centre regularly. We have joined them for the last few years a couple of times a year and we usually visit for an early lunch. On each trip the staff have been helpful and friendly. My husband and I are fit and active but the lady that we accompany has for our last two trips been finally wheelchair bound. It is during these last two visits (July and September) that I found the staff simply lovely and wanted to express my sincere thanks for their kindness. I also noticed them with other wheelchair users not fussing just clearing things away quietly, leaving people to relax and enjoy their time together and smiling rather than just staring which happens elsewhere. In fact Chris and his colleague waved to Nancy as she left yesterday (our lovely lady in the wheelchair) this made her day! She doesn't remember much anymore but that simple gesture made her so happy. Chris thank you! The plant selection is healthy, varied and reasonably priced in our opinion. Prices are similar to those we pay in North Wales and the Midlands where we split our time. After lunch we always enjoy a leisurely stroll around looking at the plant displays returning to the table for some coffee and earl grey tea both enjoyable. We have tried the paninis and jacket potatoes with beans and cheese everything tasty and for the location reasonably priced in our opinion. Parking is easy and wheelchair access is good. The gift selection is interesting and colourful and has some good ideas for gifts however I should mention that my husband and I don't usually shop much so cannot compare the shop with similar establishments. Overall we cannot fault this garden centre as it has given us all so much pleasure. A delightful environment to sit relax talk, eat and drink and to look at some lovely plants. The renovations in the cafe are noisy at the moment but that is to be expected if progress is to be made. I understand that this is to be completed in October I am sure it will look great. We happily sat outside during our last visit which was fairly peaceful and enjoyed wonderful sunshine for the end of September long may it continue!

I called in here after an unfortunate experience at the Riverhouse Barn cafe in Walton. I was desperate to eat. The cafe was undergoing a refit so there was only cold food available, but there was a reasonable selection. I chose an egg mayo baguette, a piece of tiffin and a pot of tea. They were able to supply decaff tea and skimmed milk. Many other places fail on both these fronts. The baguette was freshly made and filling, if a bit overpriced. I asked for an extra pot of hot water with my tea, which they were happy to supply.

Began slightly disappointed as I booking had been lost, but the staff in the café, then made sure that we were catered for, and assisted us making sure that we enjoyed our trip.Secondly the staff in the garden centre, could not have done enough for us by being patient and fetching anything that the clients wanted to look at as it was raining. never know that you could have so much garden ornaments Thank you from all the tenants at Chestnut Court, Stanwell.

We come here for breakfast quite regularly as it is local and we enjoy the food. Good quality and fair prices. Good coffee here. It is lovely to sit by the glass fronted area as this catches the sun and heat and warms you. Kids areas to play. Big free car park.

I went few times before and after Christmas with my family and I was very disappointed. They do food vouchers and bar area looked very busy but quality of food is very bad. Breakfast is over cooked and not fresh, coffee very bad quality, cakes old. Service very poor. Tables are always dirty. Square garden just good to buy flowers or kids gifts and go have breakfast or lunch somewhere else

Having been to this garden centre on numerous times, we have only eaten there on a few occasions. Unfortunately each time we eat in the cafe we are disappointed and I think to my self will not eat here again. But I then forget my decision. I find the service slow the staff not only unhelpful but also grumpy. The food expensive for what you get. Also the cafe has dirty floors and the tables not cleared as quickly as they should be.The cafe at the Squires Garden Centre near Fulwell seems to operate in a more successful way. It's a shame as the setting and the rest of the garden centre is great.

I have been to the restaurant quite a few times before for coffee and cake, it has always been good. However, I met with a friend on Friday and we both had the roast turkey meal. It was awful. The turkey was dry, the brussels were mushy. In fact all the vegetables were overcooked. We were disappointed.

I've recently become quite addicted to visiting Squire's for lunch. The food is varied, fresh and outstandingly delicious. Their sweet-and-sour salmon cakes were a taste revelation. Real ice-cream in a cone! And what was my incredulous delight on Saturday to have Derek and his nostalgic piano accompaniment! Who could ask for more? Splendid!

Yummy full English on a Sunday, especially if you manage to find one of the 2 for 1 vouchers. Lots of seating inside and out, great kids play area for the little ones. Then a browse round the shop on the way out. Always good, especially when all the Christmas stuff is in!

Visited over the weekend, service was ok, had a baguette freshly made, which in all fairness was nice as were the chips, my daughter had cheesy pasta which she enjoyed. My man had turkey escolpe type thing which was dry and the wedges were quite crispy, my Aunty had some soy of Cumberland sausage which actually looked lol steak tarte tarte. I think sandwhiches are better to be honest and when my Nan and Aunt asked for the girl walking round the dining area for some water she took the glasses and rolled her eyes, not realising I was with them, if you don't like helping customers who are elderly then maybe this isn't the job for you because I'm sure you wouldn't be impressed if I rolled my eyes at your gran. It's nice little place to chill whilst kids play but some staff could do with a glass of happy before their shift starts

By the time you get your breakfast to the table, it's cold!! Really slow and mournful staff put your food on a plate, then you move along and order coffee which is made while you wait! Then it's over to the cashier. The cashier had to be summoned from the breakfast bar, after our waiting in a queue at the only other till for what seemed like an age! Then you have to get cutlery from the side bar. Then after all that, the food is tasteless and the coffee awful. We will not be returning!!

This is a great location to just stop and have a coffee, add in a piece of cake, there is plenty to choose from. Or have a cooked breakfast or continental, it is all very nice. They also have a good selection of hot meals and a salad bar, freshly made sandwiches and rolls. There is plenty of seating inside and even more outside with comfy seats and parasols if there is any sun around. Then enjoy a walk round the garden centre or let the kids play in the nice area especially for kids. Would highly recommend a visit.

Not a great visit. At least a ten minute wait for a coffee at 0930. Two members of staff serving and what appeared to be many more out the back popping in and out of the kitchen with food items. You have three coffee machines but only ever appear to use one - it's very frustrating!Soft play is still filthy- see photo. That's all I'm going to say.Furthermore the bad weather was well documented that it was on its way - why couldn't some of the outdoor seating been moved to the coveted area to save wet bottoms? All the tables and chairs were soaking and not one member of staff came out to address the situation during the hour I was there.

This is a lovely restaurant with a wide and varied menu.Plenty of staff when we visited( again) today..but the service is way to slow..and we brought along a relative who has not visited before..and was the first to comment on this.Perhaps, the wide and varied menu is part of the problem..There were about three baguettes on display..and we we there early in the lunch period( about 12.35am)..we have been before and there were far more ready and prepared. When you have a party of four and one gets their food about ten minutes before the other panini's and baguettes are ready., it is poor. The young lady who served us was Sullen..perhaps she could feel the discontent in the queue now building behind us.There were other members of staff 'on the other side' waiting for customers who perhaps could not 'leave their posts'.but it made for service very slow..get to the cutlery and there were no knives, 1 fork. Please Please take note that the restaurant did not appear to be over busy.

So, I've returned and to be honest it doesn't look like the covered play area has been swept once since my last visit! We arrived at 0910 so ten minutes after opening and there was rubbish strewn across the paved area, pieces of food, wrappers, general dirt in abundance - seriously not the condition I would expect to find either a children's play area or general outdoor seating area.On a positive note the damage fibreglass toadstool has been moved BUT now one of the wooden benches has a missing panel, the perfect place for a little person to trap their foot!Come on Squires, you can afford to pay a member of staff to sweep the area once a day or a couple of times a week!!

The food all looked excellent here with beautiful looking open sandwiches. But unfortunately not beautiful tasting. I had a open sandwich of mango and chicken but unfortunately the bread was dry, mango underripe in places and they had put mayo on top which didn't go with the mango and tasted cheap. Such a shame because it all looked beautifully presented. The cakes looked delicious but unfortunately the sandwich had put me off.The cafe itself is very tastefully decorated but a lot of tables inside and out were dirty so maybe more staff are needed. It is good for children here as there is a playground and soft play for them to enjoy.

We do pop in here quite a bit for a coffee, but only cos it's walking distance from my parents house. Was ok but have started to notice a few things that are not great which is a shame. The service is VERY slow, the surroundings in the seating area not always the cleanest, and their coffee is not the best. It's always busy but it feels like because it's busy that makes them think they can't be bothered. The garden centre itself is nice though and always nice to look round. But I must say they do a lovely jam doughnut. The best I have ever had

Having to review here as there is no site for the Cobham branch, but there are issues that need addressing. Visited here with my mum and 2 children. On the whole, people here are really friendly, helpful and pleasant! The cafe however was one of the poorest experiences I have had when eating out.We made our order of drinks and food. This came to £30...a bit pricey but I dont mind paying for good quality. Quality this was NOT.The tea pot given to my mum looked like it had never been cleaned. The 1st pizza that came out for my son was like a paving slab, so I asked for another, which was only marginally better, but he ate it because he was hungry. My other son has sausages which had clearly been reheated and where black and hard like rocks...we banged them on the table...u could, they were that hard! So he bit into one of them and spat it out. Meant to be with peas..no peas.I had a chicken baguette, lettuce was old and limp. I paid extra for chips and got fewer then my son did with his paving slab pizza. My mum had a jacket potato which again looked like it had been kept hot for a looooong time. The surroundings were not clean...we had to wipe our own table on arriving and dirty plates and cups Lay on other tables for the time we were there. Slightly more understandable if they were busy, they wasnt busy. The window I sat next to was mouldy and really not nice.To be honest I would have been embarrassed to serve food that disgusting. Im no chef, but can cook food to a far better standard the the slop we were charged for. A dog would have turned its nose up.We were on a time limit to let the kids do the plant boxes before it finished so had to go, we had already spent more time then necessary waiting for another pizza. So we pay to do the plant boxes, we wasnt told they had no strawberries to grow...my kids favourite...so had to opt for tomato, lettuceAnd pepper, fair enough, they ran out but would have been nice to have been told before hand as we probably wouldn't have bothered doing it.We also went and brought some fish. The girl who served us was really polite and friendly, great customer service! Overall, nice place with mostly lovely, knowledgeable people! Chef/kitchen staff need a sort out...you cannot charge people for awful inedible food and to sit in dirty surroundings!

I have been here a number of times but had to leave feedback after my last visit.I waited nearly 15 minutes to order a flat white coffee when the wait was only 4 persons deep. My flat white turned out to be a filter coffee with a large volume of cold milk poured in - it's was so painful to order I couldn't bring myself to request another drink! The children's soft play is very good, especially as it's free BUT it's filthy! The mats surrounding look like they've never been lifted, there is sand, dirt, cigarette butts, sweet wrappers etc around the edges. The zip securing the netting preventing children from going under the slide is broken which allows access to a filthy area.In the seating area is a broken fibreglass mushroom ornament with sharp edges where a piece is missing - just waiting for a child to cut themselves.I look forward to when these faults will be resolved.

We were given a voucher for an Afternoon Tea at Squires by our grandchildren, what a treat we thought, not so. Had a look on Squires website to see if all branches provided the tea, stopped in my tracks as it states that this is a Mon to Fri only available offer, decided to ring Shepperton branch as we both work and would find weekdays impossible as would many others I suspect. A very pleasant girl was honest enough to say she did not know but would find out if it would be possible to come in on a Saturday, checked with a catering manageress and said certainly Shepperton would honour the voucher if we popped in, excellent. As it transpired we had Good Friday come along and we were able to get to Squires on that very day, not Good Friday for us as were told, again by a very pleasant young lady Rebecca, that we have to book for our afternoon treat, you can’t just turn up as the cakes have to be taken out of the freezer in readiness, not looking good is it? Told we can’t have a refund or exchange the voucher for any other goods from the store so will have to book a tea, told we are not able to book the weekend as it’s Mon to Fri, I explained we had this covered by our previous conversation with Reception. This apparently was not correct information and it clearly states on the website and in the terms and conditions that I should have read, I would suggest the requirement to book and availability could be printed on voucher or card attached, remember this is an Afternoon Tea, a treat. In view of the confusion of information Rebecca agreed to book us in on the following day, a Saturday although there are normally no weekends for these Afternoon Teas, no other choices so we selected our Sandwich and looked forward to the following day. We turned up on time, greeted by a very polite young man and led to our table past several others set for Afternoon Teas, you know the ones which weren’t available at weekends, ignoring that we sat down and took in the surroundings, all good so things were on the up. Tea was served, followed by the trays, the first thing I noticed was the sandwich consisted of four fingers of white bread with filling, the scones looked of good quality with ample filling of jam and cream and the Petit Fours, well never seen anything like it. The sandwich I have described turns out to be straight from fridge storage leaving the bread damp on the surface and pretty much rendering taste undetectable, as I said the scone was very good as was the cream and jam, maybe get the butter out of the freezer earlier, we were not alone in balancing our butter on the teapot in an effort to use it. Now the Petit Fours, we received between us four damp and I mean very damp 30 mm dia pastries, one cut unripe strawberry, three blueberries, yes three and four segments of orange, how can this possibly represent petit fours, in case in ignorance I had got it wrong I searched ‘Petit Four’ and the results were mouth watering unlike our experience. The same young man enquired if all was ok, I commented that I was surprised the sandwich was so cold and damp, he enquired what had been my choice, coronation chicken, “ah that has to be kept below 6.2” was the answer, I am afraid I don’t know what 6.2 means, I have been in catering for many years and the requirement for storing cold cooked meat is below 8 deg, ideally 5 deg this does not apply to bread, I have to feel the answer to my question was a knee jerk reaction not based on fact. Sad because the garden centre is a lovely place and people happily pay for quality, I don't feel that quality is forthcoming in pre prepared and long time cold storage less than average food.

This garden centre has a lovely cafe with seating inside and out. As a local, I call here regularly to meet friends and although the food is very good there are jacket poatoes, hot foot, full breakfasts, freshly made quiche and rolls. The cafe has been dirty on numerous occasions. Dirty glasses, cutlery, tables and the floor. It may be because of the play area and children eating in the cafe but the staff need to address the hygiene and keep on top of the clearing tables and tidying. Note, the breakfast is very good but busy particularly at the weekend. Little tip, if there are two of you one get the breakfasts and one get the hot drinks. This should mean its all ready at the same time when u get to the till. You can take your dog inside the garden centre and outside seating of the restaurant.

went here for breakfast, the breakfast was average and would of liked to see some other options especially healthy ones. the problem with the current way breakfast is served is by the time you queue to pay and find a seat the food gets cold very quickly. I think it may be best to try waiter service or you queue up order, pay and they bring the food to you.
