Good place for a drink and/or food. Always busy (so worth booking). Lively atmosphere.

Really welcoming , accommodating and helpful. Most notable the breakfast as the lovely server went the extra mile to ensure my bacon was cooked how I liked it . She didn’t have to at all however going above and beyond ! The lovely gentleman who welcomed me was the same gentleman on previous occasions and was always smiling and had time for everyone making sure things were right . Impressed to say the least ! I regularly travel for work and (so far ) this is one of the best beefeaters - linked to premium inn’s for helpful staff

Very disappointing meal out for our Granddaughters 8th birthday. Certainly no fun factor. Negative elf service. Seemed very matter of fact that the much awaited for igloo chocolate pudding was not available. As was several starters & mains. Elder granddaughter requested 2 items to be removed from her burger & was told that in my day you got what you were given. Definately will not be returning.

Not the most inviting entrance and don't forget to log your car for free parking. The restaurant itself seems stuck in the 80s and could do with a bit of an updo. However, service was excellent. Friendly, professional and caring. Wish I had picked up the server's name, she was lovely. And, the food was delicious. Steak perfectly cooked and all served on piping hot plates. Superb. If you have ice cream for dessert, get the raspberry sauce!

It ain't gourmet, but it doesn't pretend to be like so many 'pubs'! Great party venue. There were at least 3 large parties going on while I was there. The staff were magnificent! The Kitchen deserves a mention. Huge level of skill and competency in producing meals for 14+ per party, every table appeared to get their meals together. Respect!

I was staying in the Premier Inn next door for four nights. I ate here three nights, and the food order was messed up twice. I chose to eat somewhere else on the fourth night. One mistake I can overlook. Two in three nights I wont. Ill now choose a different hotel for my next Basingstoke stay. Send the staff to Hull North, to see how a Beefeater should run.

The service from Tequila was outstanding

I waited for so long to be seated that I eventually gave up and left. They weren't busy, there were plenty of staff. Just none interested in serving.

We got a table on Sunday, 10th November and the person who sat us down asked if it was our first time at a Beefeater, which it was. He was really nice and explained about the menus and that our table server would be with us shortly to take our orders. Unfortunately, we forgot to take his name, but he was very professional and friendly! We were served by Lily first who took our drink and food orders and then she handed us over to Dora who then served our food. Both Lily and Dora were superb with attention to detail as well as being very friendly, helpful and professional on a very busy lunch day! We were very impressed by both, they are an asset to the company! :) The food was very tasty, we ordered the festive 2 course menu, we will definitely go again! Thank you to all 3 members of staff! Everything was truly amazing. From the delicious food to wonderful and smiley staff. We had one of the best waitress I have ever encountered. Absolutely will come back again.

We arrived 25 minutes early for a reservation and there was a lengthy queue, due to the manager seating customers, while taking orders, serving food, clearing and cleaning tables, while 2 members of staff were just sitting down with nothing to do, and I have never had a prawn cocktail with avocado before, it was disgusting

I really can't endorse this establishment enough. The food is sensational and the service is even better. They make you feel as if you're the only customer in the building. I spoke to the manager, Lee and he is such a personable person. Clearly the staff are following his exemplary example. If you decide to come to Basingstoke, you won't be disappointed by visiting this fine establishment.

Went for a breakfast today, bacon looked grey and like it had been out far too long, bean juice congealed in the dish where the beans had been! Eggs rock hard as must have been out some time. Most dishes nearly empty and not replenished. Hardly any bread and what was left must have been out a while as it was stale. No jam, no sweeteners! Regardless of whether you are the first or last customer the food standard should be the same as you pay the same price! Not a patch on the Premier Inn breakfast at top of town where the lady takes pride in the food she presents. Will not return here for breakfast ever. Very disappointing and a waste of money.

Polite staff. Quiet when we were there. Clean and tidy. Visited again for a family occasion our (2nd wedding anniversary). Prebooked the table fortunately as it was very busy and that was at 6.pm. The service from being greeted ,shown to table and ordering was extremely efficient, friendly and professional. Our waitress Vicky was a 🌟. She knew the food and drinks menu, the options and what went with what. She was very attentive and obliging in not only our initial order but further requests from us throughout our meal. We expected quite a delay waiting for our food as it was so busy but No the food arrived promptly and hot. When finished the table was quickly cleared and dessert arrived in good timing. Thanks to all the staff for a quite memorable evening. We would highly recommend this restaurant.

Came in on a busy friday night for some drinks, amazing deal of 2 for £12 on the cocktails. I didn’t fancy one of the drinks so i requested to have something changed in it, and it was no problem for them! Bar staff are lovely and although it was busy it was very quick service!

Amazing steak! Me and my husband came in on a busy Saturday evening and was warmly greeted by the manager who promptly showed me to my table. We had amazing fillet steaks cooked to perfection followed by some huge sundaes. Would highly recommend if you are in the area.

Absolutely awful £17.99 for a very dry very small portion of ribs with very small half of a frozen chicken piece. Take a look at the photo take a look at the corn on the cob. Who won Earth cuts a small portion off of a corn on a cob and serves it up with the meal? 8 chips. Poorly cooked and hard. . We also ordered a curry and when I complained that it was quite obviously microwaved the server just smiled at me apologetically. I would have demanded my money back but my partner was so unhappy she just wanted to go home. Truly the worst restaurant experience I have ever had in Basingstoke. I wouldn't feed it to my dog avoid this place at all costs.

Nicely cooked food. Best to book as busy. Friendly staff and keen to please. Always great meals when I have been. Remember to put your car registration into the machine by reception for 3 hours free parking.

Was there in a party of 6. All enjoyed the food. All retired to the bar afterwards for a couple of hours.

Great food, I had the steak sampler. Cooked really well. Great spicy sauce on the side. Kids food was served quickly and really hot which we prefer. Great service by a decent bloke (he said he used to be 19s stone if that helps,.but he is really slim now. Great work and that may help you identify him). Digital tips should go to the server as FYI. Strongly recommend.

The standard for buffet breakfast is already quite low. Somehow, this place lowers the bar further. Food was absolutely grim. There's not a single redeeming factor.

This place has really come a long way in recent years and good service is a cornerstone of this. Been here twice now this month, in large part due to fantastic service By Tequilla, she is professional, personable, knowledgable and well presented. You are lucky to have her. Also the food is great too!

Food was okay service was not great our waitress was chewing gum whiles talking to us and blowing bubbles with it as she was walking round. Service also wasn’t good as they took a long time to bring two out of the 3 drinks we ordered then when we ordered pudding the waitress took the order then didn’t give it to the kitchen so we didn’t receive them for 20 minutes.

Nice welcome from the start. The hosts, the elder gentleman and Sinead, the waitress, were so friendly under busy circumstances, but she had it all under control. Well done. The steak was cooked a perfect medium.

Self service buffet which is too small for the venue capacity. Food is standard Beefeater, which is perfectly acceptable, but need table service or more buffet points and coffee machine points.

Really friendly staff and even though the food is cheap, I absolutely love it. I have had meals twice as expensive and half as good at other restaurants. All the staff were happy and smiley which is always nice. One thing I loved, is that my son chose Mac n cheese and changed his mind (to be fair, it didn't mention the fact it had loads of vegetables inside it on the menu, I wouldn't have liked it either) and the waitress happily let him have a burger instead at no extra cost.

Breakfast is a bargain with loads on offer. Kids eat free so for me and the 2 kids it came to £11 . That’s less than £3.5 each for latte’s , coffee , pancakes, muffins , fruit salad , ceareal, juice croissants and as much of the full hot selection as you can eat. Great deal and great service from team. We will be back and recommend for any family with kids.

Came to the spruce after swimming with the kids. We found the place very well priced and the kids ate free. Our steaks were cooked as ordered but our favourite was the millionaire cheese cake. Service all round was excellent and our waitress was spot on. Would recommend booking . We will definitely be back. TheThank Spruceys.

I am a lover of steak and ale pie, the one I had is the best ever, my partner had chicken and ribs, he absolutely loved it. Service fantastic. We went back for Sunday breakfast which was fantastic

It's an all you can eat restaurant, especially breakfast, offering English style and Continental. A spacious hall houses many tables of varying sizes, and the prices are not too high.

This place has vastly improved over the past few years. Food now always great, hot, tasty & served in good time when we have visitec. Staff are cheerful & attentive. Good value

My son took out for a couple drinks at lunchtime . We ordered our drinks sat out in the sunshine very nice however trying to get a second round proved difficult as six people were in front of me and the poor girl was the only person behind the bar ! I gave up waiting and we left .

Went for the breakfast buffet on a Sunday. Staff were friendly and the restaurant was clean and tidy BUT... Its a huge place and the breakfast buffet is served by one machine that can make one coffee in about 2 minutes. Nowhere near enough for the number of tables/customers. That made for a long queue for a coffee! Considering that it is a regular part of their offering, the breakfast buffet set up looks and feels like an afterthought and simply doesn't have the capacity to serve the number of customers in a satisfactory fashion. There was plenty of food once you got past the queues but much of it was overcooked and dried out. The place has lots of potential and a few small changes to the way they set up for breakfasts would make for a much better overall experience. Priority number one MUST surely be a second coffee station! I have had issues in the past here with evening service being terribly slow. I think the over-riding issue is that the capacity of the tables is not met by the capacity to service them. NOT the fault of the staff, who are clearly doing their best!

Absolute cattle market for breakfast. Long queue for a tiny hot food area. Only Two people can stand next to each other side by side to fight over utensils. Long queue for coffee machine. Not worth the money or the standing around waiting for ages, regardless of how much you can eat! Food runs out on buffet hot cart so you then wait again for more food to come out. We stood for 25 minutes in the queue!! Coffee and toast is cold by the time you actually manage to get your breakfast! Overcrowded and really noisy. Definitely not going back

Adam, our server, was very good. It was busy, he had lots of big tables, but still kept us feeling involved, and seen to. Food was good, but if we didn’t have Adam, it’s likely to not have tasted as good.

Came here for breakfast today with the family. Very busy place , be sure to book. Staff were very pleasant. Isaac on the buffet was run of his feet and still delivered us our gluten allergy, he was amazing. With kids eat free it worked out at £3.5 per guest. You simply cannot find a better deal. We will certainly be back.

Starter didn’t come out before the main but had this taken off the bill as we didn’t want it once mains had been started. Communication between staff didn’t seem too great but very very polite and apologetic. Isadora did a great job in welcoming us and serving us throughout - service with a smile.

Good friendly prompt service. However, food most disappointing. Ordered fully loaded nachos. Menu says nachos, cheese, salsa, guacamole. Mine were missing the salsa and cheese.

Went for lunch. Salad with chicken was nearly all lettuce and the avocado was so overripe and not edible. Poor quality all round. My granddaughter had steak and it seemed quite chewy and grisly. Not impressed at all

Staying at the hotel, we had an evening meal here. Service was excellent, the staff were working incredibly hard and didn't slow down until the kitchen closed at 9.30pm. Food was the usual Whitbread fayre, perfectly adequate and reasonably priced. The place could do with a freshen-up but with Whitbread's plans to do away with hotel-associated eateries in favour of more rooms and a small restaurant, it's doubtful that any of their dining pubs will last the year out.

Fries microwaved, rack of ribs drier than the Sahara. Had to try and smother it with the small ramekin of hot sauce that was provided with the meal. Wife had the fillet steak not the best quality although the peppercorn sauce was lovely so had to ensure each bite was covered in it. No check backs were made and by the time they did I ate the ribs due to being hungry having driven 2 and a half hours. I did mention all of this to the server. Dreading the breakfast I booked with the hotel as just found out it'll be served here in this Beefeater. May cancel breakfast and look elsewhere.

A flying visit for breakfast and was duly accommodated no problem. Just one gripe - milk wasn't provided for the teas and coffees on the other side, so had to use the churn for the cereals, someone spilt their tea over my breakfast while I was trying to sort my stuff out before attempting to put milk in my coffee.

Waiting for starters, three of our party for four were served. Waiter chose to do something else. When asked where 4th plate was, he rudely replied ‘I only have one pair of hands !! Not good !!

Very popular eatery. Parking for disabled was a minimum. All round a nice hearty breakfast was had.

Would like to say what a pleasant place to have a full English breakfast the Spruce Goose is. Plenty of choice for both continental and full breakfast. All the staff are friendly and helpful. Never felt rushed and nothing was any bother. Highly recommend

Received a consistently friendly and warm welcome and service at this Beefeater when staying at the Premier Inn next door. We ate breakfast in the Beefeater 4 days in a row and spent our days sitting with my Mum who was unconscious in hospital, then scraped into the Beefeater for dinner 3 nights in a row just before the kitchen closed. That every member of staff we met across 7 shifts was so helpful and friendly and full of personality says a lot for whoever recruits, trains and manages the staff. Lots of variety of food for breakfast and the flat white out of the coffee machine was better than expected. Our dinners were also nice and arrived fresh and piping hot, the ice cream sundaes were a real treat.

Hit and miss with this place, had a 7oz sirloin steak a few weeks ago and it was cooked well done and was more like a shoe sole so I didn't pay for this. Another time the steak was perfect. Like a said it is hit and miss

Just want to give a shout out to Lee and Tequila who looked after us last night 27/4/24. Enjoyable meal excellent service . The only problem is the state of the building dated decoration and the condition of the disabled toilet. The owners need to spruce up the Spruce Goose. Once again thank you Lee and Tiquila.

Used to like going there from the day it was built gone down hill inside and out especially outside looked forgotten and tired food was mediocre service slow last time I will go there just like the harvester and that was diabolical both a waste of time and money and some of the menu wasn't there in-between suppliers apparently such a shame ..

Its not bad. Burgers where OK. I haven't eaten here for a few years. There are better places to go in Basingstoke but service was fast at lunch time. Not badly priced for what we ate.

Food was ok , small portions though , the staff were excellent considering only two people were serving and it was packed out .As you can see Mr Beefeater needs to renovate this place quickly.

Very friendly staff with wheelchair access, could thank the staff enough for fitting us in on a very busy breakfast. Hot foot was constantly being brought out and the cold selection was great, I will be coming back here again.

Had better here before. Was told chicken not available for Sunday Roast meal but was for other meals on the menu. The chargrilled chicken we had was in my opinion overdone. The waitress we had was great in getting an alternative for our grandson though.

Food was expensive and my steak was over cooked couldn't distinguish between the burger and spicy mayo sauce which we had to ask for as it was forgotten. Was not asked if we enjoyed the meal or if anything was amiss all in all we rated out experience as ok but nothing more
