I used to love their chicken Satay in sauce! I dont have it very often but ordered it tonight. And it was so dissapointing! The recipe has completely changed! It has different veg in it now. But the sauce was bland and watery! No peanut flavour at all. I had to chuck salt on it to give it some flavour! The salt and chilli chips tasted old!. I will not be ordering food from here again! 😒 Its gone from so good to so dissapointingly bad!

5-10 meals from you guys all below basic btec levels of cooking since re opening. Had better microwave rice in my time

I ordered several dishes and paid about £60 for all of them. Unfortunately, there were almost no shrimps in the shrimp rice. The food was tasteless and tasteless even though we waited an hour to order. I'm dissappointed

Ordered a set meal for one, and was enough for 2 to 3 people, and delivery was very good

Would give 0 stars if possible! Delivery was 1.5 hours late so called the restaurant to find out that our food hadn’t even left the shop. Asked to cancel our order as delivery time would have been another 45 minutes to an hour, but the woman on the phone was no help and very rude, talking over me. This isn’t the first time our order has been late since the restaurant reopened and will not be using again. Definitely save your time and money and go somewhere nicer

Always was our go to Chinese takeaway, just had our delivery but very disappointed. Everything tasteless and bland, pork balls with doughy covering and overcooked tough pork, rice overcooked and claggy, pieces of egg really hard. Beef in black bean sauce bland and the beef was tough. Won Ton soup equally flavourless. Won't be going there again

Far far too salty and some of the food was dry and burnt

The best Hong Kong style prawns I've had in years Proper sweet and sour sauce, lots of large battered prawns, so much so I couldn't finish them! Only thing I'd say, serve the sauce in a separate pot. Prompt service, freshly cooked I haven't been to this Chinese in years but will definitely try more of the menu

Previously did a review on this but I need to update this ASAP, to my knowledge this has changed hands and the quality has gone through the roof, The Satay chicken might just be one of the best that i’ve had. They do a Salt and Pepper 9” box for £13 which has: ribs, wings, chicken strips, chips, spring rolls and curry sauce and between two people it’s a great addition. The rice is great also. Pick up time is reasonable in peak hours, could do the collection within 20 minutes.

Nice food, good friendly service

We've recently had several takeaways from Black Dam Chinese Kitchen which have been consistently good. They use quality ingredients and have been delivered promptly & hot. We have used some other Chinese takeaways in Basingstoke but Black Dam are by far the best.

I used to use this Chinese regularly for over 20 years, food and service was always excellent from this family run business. Unfortunately since the new owners have taken over in the last year the quality has seriously gone down hill. We tried several different dishes and have not been impressed by any of them.Sauces are watery they do not taste particularly nice and the food is greasy. We no longer use them. If you are wanting good Chinese food then this is no longer the place to go.

Went here for first time in years,they were extremely helpful,had salt and chilli crispy chicken with egg fried rice , very good portions and delicious ,partner equally happy

We ordered beef in black bean and green pepper crispy king prawn with sweet and sour sauce egg fried rice portion of chips and a spring roll and crispy seaweed and the only thing that was edible what's the crispy spring roll the chips and the seaweed everything else was so salty the beef in black bean and green pepper was so dark and salty and the batter for the King prawns was really salty and the sweet and sour sauce was really horrible we will not be ordering from them again since it has changed hands the standard of cooking has gone down considerably

Used to really rate here but since they have reopened I’m guessing the chef has changed as food is not anywhere as good. Nice updated website though

Ordered here for over 25 years loved every takeaway I’ve had!! New menu = no bean sprouts or onion with a plain chow mein just noodles! Soft crispy chilli beef and sweet and sour chicken balls the size of a an apple which is questionable due to the price for the quantity provided

This is my local Chinese and I've used it for years. Food is tasty, plentiful and good quality. I've always collected my food and found it best to leave it a little over the full time there they give to pick up. Prices have increased significantly in last months (where have they not?) but this has now made them a lot more expensive than others.

Ordered from here 3 times since they reopened last month and the menu is bigger and better! Portion sizes are very generous and quality seems to be much better too! Have had fast timely delivery each time also

Food is really nice and delivery is usually quite fast

Egg fried rice hardly had any eggs in it! Rice quality was poor - tasted hard, chewy and smelly as though mixed with left over rice. Delivery was quick though.

Delivery took over an hr for luke warm food to arrive. Frozen chips & fish(fish overcooked & dry) will not order again

Ridiculous! Don’t even bother trying to order from here, 2 hour wait trying to call up minimum every time I’ve tried. Food is bang average anyway wouldn’t bother save yourself. Learn customer service

Terrible!!! Worse take away I’ve ever had!! The crispy chilli beef had no beef!!??? And when I phone them for a simple exchange they refused!! Definitely avoid.

Satay chicken for over £5 and the amount of chicken it so tiny compared to pineapple, not good price is over the quality of food don't order from here. Much better places to get Chinese around Basingstoke 😤

Called up to place my order but unfortunalty because I'm allergic to seafood ( maisey ) refused to take my order apparently it way to busy for alergic costumers to make requests I can't believe the level of disrespect and poor cortumer service !! I had such bad experience with staff and the manager (weigman) I don't recommend at all

Very disappointed with the quality of the food. We always ordered from this place and it was always lovely. Today we received our usual order in 20 minutes (it normally takes 1hour) and to our surprise, the food was just horrible! The sweet and sour sauce had a consistency like jelly and tasted funny, the crispy chilli beef had white marks all over, barely no sauce and I can honestly say it seems like it was microwaved. I have pictures of it, but unfortunately I cannot post them here. We can see that there has been a few recent bad reviews, so I'm not sure if anything changed. We will think twice before ordering from here again.

Ordered set meal for 4 people and only for 2 came. Argued with me when called up and then had the cheek to charge and extra £8 to get the correct one delivered. Never using them again rude woman in the phone and manager no better

Probably the worst Chinese take away I’ve had

If there was a option for 0 stars I would of gave it, the egg fried rice was mush and horrible, the chicken curry was dry and horrible, the chicken chew main was very bland and under cooked and chicken was dry, grilled dumpling were horrible, the prawn crackers were stale, the stir Fried casew nuts with duck was terrible the duck was hard and could not be eaten, vegetable spring rolls were soggy and tasted disgusting, pineapple fritters were under cooked and tasted disgusting and musy, mushroom curry was very hard and undercooked was not worth the amount we paid 4 people and 1 pregnant lady was left hungry will never use again and would not recommend to anyone was the worst Chinese we all have ever eaten. Waste of 56 pound

First time I’ve ordered from black dam, wont be again. Satay chicken had a whole pineapple cut up in it! Hardly any chicken. Sweet and sour chicken Hong Kong style was basically chicken balls with a little sauce. Got charged 1.80 delivery and 1.20 extras (whatever that is?)

Have used this place about 10 years ago and was great. Have ordered chinese tonight and it is horrible. Ordered a variety of things ny husbands beef curry had oil settled on top of it. I ordered sweet and sour chicken hong kong style it was chicken balls with a bit of sauce. Also ordered crispy chilli beef which is grey and disgusting. I phoned to complain and all that was said is its the same recipes we have used for 20 years i beg to differ! Never again!!!! I would rather go hungary! Even the prawn crackers were disgusting!!! Shame on you balck dam chinese kitchen!!!!!!!

My favourite Chinese ever! I have been ordering from here for years, and my parents year before I was born! Wouldn't dream of ordering from anywhere else! Nicest chips from a Chinese as well!! Thanks guys!

Where do I begin, I always liked the famous Blackdam Chinese since 2008. It was one of my favourite chinese in Basingstoke, until Wong Tin Kun joined, this is the "Wong" guy if you know what I mean. Since he's joined your restaurant almost killed my cat as I fed him a bit of fish and it was frozen, he choked on it and sadly died and the fish was still alive for some reason and flapping out of his mouth, my cat was very curious about the fish, but curious killed the cat, may his soul rest in peace. We decided to buy the food from the Chinese one more time with my mother, we got the chicken ball and she started choking on a pencil, she spat it out and there was a sticky note, I opened it and it said, "you messed with the Wong guy, stay fresh >:)"

I didt like it and waste of 34 quid and never getting from there again and the food was not hot it was warm and taste less.

I have used this Chinese For quite a few years, and I have never had any problems. Delivery is on the slightly long side, but they have always let me know when ordering how long I can expect to wait. The food is always excellent, arrives hot and portion size I would say is on the large side (for me anyways!)

Totally agree with the above comments. Plus their opening hours are not what they advise on their website - if they want to finish early they put the phone off the hook (sometimes up to 1hr) before they close. Shame this is the only place open this time of night as would never use them.
